We went to this place to get sushi and had a great experience. When you walk in the mood is very calming and the decor is very nice. We were greeted and seated immediately. The menus had a large selection of items with pictures of select items. We ordered a spicy crab salad, edamame, and a bunch of sushi rolls. The spicy crab salad was a large portion and was very tasty. The edamame was good as well, but I have never had bad edamame. All of the sushi rolls were great! I was unable to determine my favorite roll. The presentation of the sushi was great along with the taste. This is an awesome sushi restaurant with great service, menu options, and food. The only thing I would alter is how sushi rolls are ordered. I have been to other restaurants where they give you a sheet to check the rolls you want so you don't have to remember them. I am a sucker for Bento boxes. I guess because I'm all over the place in a Japanese restaurant do I want sushi? A meal? An appetizer? Yes I want them all. I went for lunch and got the bento box and it was a fair price. In the box was a side salad with the ginger dressing, two gyoza (dumplings), a California roll, rice, and I tried the mango chicken. I'm usually not a fan of the ginger dressing because it's kinda chunky and thick. Umami's is smooth like ranch but doesn't lose the ginger flavor. I really enjoyed it. I know I'm probably losing points wavering from the tradition but the dressing is delicious. I've never had mango chicken but yum lots of big mango pieces with veggies. So good. You get the option of white or brown rice or fried rice with $2 up charge. I will be going back. read more

Lutz is killing in lately with new restaurants. We love sushi, and are a little more discerning when it comes to sushi places and this restaurant did not dissappoint. The sushi rolls were fresh, healthy sized, and very, very tasty. The restaurant itself is tastefully decorated, the staff is pleasant and attentive, and as stated, the food is awesome. The prices are in line with that of other quality sushi restaurants, and there is a solid selection to choose from. This is another easy 5 star rating. My wife and I went chair shopping in a tiny car. Not a smart idea. After loading the chair a quarter of the way into the trunk and then bungee cording and duct taping it until it no longer moved, we realized we were hungry. The two of us noticed a relatively new sushi place, Umami Sushi, in the same strip mall that we purchased our chair in. A quick scan of Yelp said that people were pretty positive about it. So we gave it a whirl. There's a lot to like about Umami Sushi. For one, they have a decent amount of vegan and vegetarian dishes. They have gyoza, noodles, edamame, tofu, miso soup and, of course, sushi. We've never ventured over to the noodle side of the menu so we can't vouch for those dishes but as far as the sushi goes, Umami Sushi, is pretty spot on. The sweet potato tempura rolls come out warm with a slight bit of crunch. They are drizzled with two different sauces and served on top of a fancy leaf. The avocado peanut roll blends the creaminess of an avocado with the slight saltiness and crunch of a nut. It also comes served on a fancy leaf. We've sampled a number of other vegetarian rolls at Umami Sushi as well. The rest of them seem like your typical, standard, vegetarian sushi dishes. For little to no cost (I think it is actually free but didn't really check when I paid my bill) you can replace the white rice in your sushi rolls with brown. During our most recent visit, I did that with my sweet potato rolls. The increased nutritional value of the brown rice thankfully did nothing to hinder the sushi's texture or taste. Probably the coolest, most unique thing about Umami Sushi is that the offer special chopsticks for kids. These chopsticks are connected at the top with a plastic piece which makes using them much easier. My three year old loves going to Umami Sushi because she "gets her own chopsticks." They'd also be perfect for that older person in your life that refuses to eat with anything but a fork. There isn't anything groundbreaking about Umami Sushi. But it is another place that you can add to your list of decent local sushi places that won't cost you a ton of money. read more

Ordered a Mexican roll to go. Got it home and it has eel sauce on it. The website menu does not list eel sauce as an ingredient. For someone who hates eel sauce this was a big let down. It basically ruined the roll because the roll is smothered in it and not easy to wipe off. The menu should be updated to reflect all ingredients. The tempura batter was also really hard and chewy. We came in an sat down and it took 10 minutes to get our drinks. We put our order in and it took an hour to get our food. None of the employees were wearing masks. The restaurant prioritizes online orders over in-person customers. Literally saw our food sitting there for 10 mins before the server gave it to us. Food was lackluster and left with wanting more. Been here twice and had a great experience both times. The sushi was fresh and atheistically pleasing. Service is pretty quick and everyone is so friendly. The only thing I would like is with all the sushi options if there was way to mark what your going to get, the menus are laminated so maybe a expo marker. Will NEVER order from here again. Uber eats delivered my food soaking and dripping out the bag! NO wasabi with my sushi...seriously? And I paid for a side of eel sauce and a side of spicy mayo and got neither. I'm traveling and travel often I've had sushi in New York City LA all over North Jersey and I have to say this place is top notch. Fresh fish! Melt in your mouth sushi and sashimi and amazing role combinations put together. Server was very attentive came back several times to refill drinks. Came back to let us know that the sushi bar was backed up due to go orders and it could be up to 25 to 30 minutes and the food came out in about 15.
