Well, UMove isn't really "U" moving--it's more like "they" move. Seriously, the name could use a tweak. Maybe "The Fastest Movers in the World"? These guys work like a well-oiled machine. I blinked, and things were already moved! When I reached out, I contacted many companies, but three stood out. I won't bore you with the details--let's just say the list is out the door, along with my time and money, both well spent. During the pandemic, it took my boyfriend and me three days to move. On Thanksgiving Day, I was crying for help, so sore. I found two gentlemen to help on Thanksgiving. Who needs football and turkey, right? They definitely saved the day. That experience made me realize I'm never doing that again. I reached out to my top three choices, focusing on cost, friendliness, and transparency. I hate those sales calls from reps who probably have never moved anything in their lives. With UMove, I got straight to the guy who showed up at my door with a team, a huge truck, and every bit of equipment I could dream of. He estimated five hours with four movers. I wasn't convinced, so I budgeted for eight hours. It took 8.25 hours. Last time I moved, it was seven years of stuff. This year, just four, but to a bigger place. I managed to create an extra bedroom in my one-bedroom apartment, so I called it a two-bed. Moving to a 2B/2B with only 10 more square feet. What a chaotic world moving is! These gentlemen are amazing--fast, quick, efficient, and ready to work. I had two upstairs and two downstairs, so we were in constant motion. When the guys downstairs ran out of stuff, they came up to help. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not a "point your finger and do" kind of person, but that's the service these guys provided. They were quick, efficient, and worth every penny. Money was my first concern. I had to stay within a budget and get the most out of my money. Having four movers instead of three probably saved me an extra day of moving. So, after all is said and done, I'm moved and don't want to do it again. But I do because anyone in the Bay Area not married and making six figures, I'll move again and go right back to UMove without even shopping around. read more

I had a special request to drop somethings off at a different location and they accommodated that without problems! You pay per hour depending on how many people you want, and I suspect more people makes the process faster. Before I inspected everything after Maxim and Alex left I'd probably give them 3 stars for the following reasons. Pros: was able to finish everything in 3 hours (move from one ground level 1 bed to a 2 bed 2 bath with small steps leaving up to the door), lower prices than some of the other companies in the area (there is a reason) Cons: maxim scheduled me on the wrong day and good thing i was able to move things around for them to come at 7 instead of 9. I should have taken this as a warning but no I just wanted to help get this move finished. Slight language barrier and lack of clarification which is okay but not ideal. The reason why I'm now giving 1 star is that I noticed upon them leaving that a sofa that was NEWLY cleaned was stained and dirty. Additionally the cushion inserts that I had assumed would be wrapped and protected were dropped in the dirt and stained pretty heavily. When I texted Maxim his response was "aren't those washable"? What kind of response from a mover is that???? Your job is to make sure everything is safely moved from one location to another. So great I'll have to spend another 400 to get the sofa deep cleaned again. Also, as a side note after I paid 320 for 3 hours and then tipped 160, maxim asked to use my bathroom. When I went in after him there were urine drops on the toilet. Absolutely inappropriate. TLDR: the relatively cheaper price is set for a reason, would not use them again nor let them use my bathroom again read more

I moved 10+ times in my life and have to say Maxim and Alex were the best movers I have ever encountered! Pricing is also very reasonable. They were both extremely knowledgeable on how to pack and load my items safely and efficiently into the truck. They saved me a bunch of money -- they used only 5 ft to pack all the items from my 2 bed home (moving company told me I need 13 ft originally and I was able to get a refund). I've had a nightmare dealing with other companies providing low quotes and changing them later, breaking things, etc -- this is the easiest and most pleasant experience I've ever had. The answers were quick and thorough answers even after hours. They gave us a comprehensive price estimate after a video call, where they very correctly estimated times it would take (other companies gave less time that in hindsight was unrealistic). tl;dr: on time, on budget, great job. The UMove team is full of literal magicians. Lifesavers. Extremely hard working, no bullshit, efficient, and friendly movers. Let me tell you the first half of a story. I had gotten quotes from several places all of whom did cursory review of our apartment and indicated ~4-5hr packing effort and a 16ft container. I didn't like the self dealing of getting my packers from the same place I got transport so I looked around for a team that had stellar reviews: enter UMove. They were super responsive throughout the planning period and arrived on time. A few hours into packing Maxim was like "Uh, so I don't think this is all going to fit in your POD and we have a trip already scheduled from your destination back here. You might look into the POD cancellation policy and we can carry your stuff up." I was skeptical but Maxim is friendly and I like small business... and they gave me a super competitive quote to top it off. So sure, why not. LITERALLY 9 HOURS LATER. Truck was finally packed -- and I mean packed. They brought a 26ft truck and at the end we were having prioritization discussions around what should go and what stays. I'm not a lucky man but picking UMove and having them be able to pick up our transport (600 miles!) north kept this already stressful move from becoming tragedy. Anyway. Phenomenal job, extremely friendly despite being under staffed (I got 2, should have gone with 3 or 4 folks), all around excellent experience. While I wouldn't move again just to use these guys if I do move again I won't go with anyone else. Delivery went as promised: 2 days and on budget. Nothing lost or damaged (TV, Grandfather Clock, kitchen glassware, various furniture) and on the receiving end staff was quick and professional. No damages to the house on load or unload and we had cats hidden away in one room that we only indicated once was off limits for safety and they never tried to store anything. read more

Maxim and his crew are my heroes. (Shout-out to Alex, what a sweetheart.) At 5:30pm the night before I was supposed to move, U-Haul as good as cancelled my truck (they told me the closest one was available two hours later and three hours farther away than my reservation, throwing off all my mover appointments). He and his guys showed up the next day and did my 2-bedroom long distance move (Oakland to LA) with skill and great attitudes. They were creative getting stuff in and out of doors--I have a big couch that required taking a door off its hinges on one end of the move and coming in through a patio on the other end. But this second time, I was really disappointed and dissatisfied with the lack of time management and organization. My boyfriend booked UMove and confirmed with Max the date and time for Sun 9/3 from 9-12, a week or two before. As Sunday 9/3 came Max told us that he mistakenly double booked their team, meaning they will be helping another customer at the time slot we booked. He told us that the arrival time of the movers for us would be 12-2.. we tried to be flexible and open minded (although mind you we booked them from 9-12.) As 2pm came we got a call saying they'd be here from 2:15-2:30 but as 2:30 passed by we got another text saying they'd be here in 30 mins. So we originally booked them at 9am and it was 3pm and they were not here yet... We were already so defeated from being up at 6 to ensure that they were able to move things swiftly in our home.. We had asked Max if we can just reschedule for tomorrow as this already caused a 6+ hour delay. We were lucky it was labor day weekend or else we could've had to figure out a way to take work off suddenly.. He confirmed again for the next day and we had asked him if he could assist us since this caused a great inconvenience and he only gave us 5% off.. We were devastated as this caused us so much inconvenience, we had already dissembled our bed which we could not move ourselves, so we had to sleep on the floor at our new apartment.. we had to move heavy boxes on our own to ensure we had everything we needed the night of. As Monday 9/4 came, we had hopes of better service and wanted to be open minded. We confirmed that they would be here at the same slot 9-12, we texted Max in the morning just to confirm, called him a few times but he did not answer. We texted another team member and they'd stated that they would arrive at 9:45.. which is 45 mins late than the original slot. We never heard from Max at all the day of, not even a confirmation or an apology for the tardiness of his team. I really wanted to be open minded and give them another chance and I thought that they would prioritize us or at-least do better the next day since we were screwed over the day before... but I guess not. They did an okay job moving random household items from a 10x20 public storage unit to a garage 11 miles away. But I thought they took too much time for the job (3.75 hours). I know that the PS unit was on the 2nd floor and that ate up some time, but I felt that they could have done the job with a little more sense of urgency. Also, the biggest complaint was that they were over 1 hour late and only gave us a heads up on this less than 30 minutes prior to the original appointment time. That through off my schedule especially with the long move time. I gave them a chance to make it right (asking for a slight discount) but they wouldn't budge stating they are the lowest priced movers around. Two guys from UMOVE showed up at my doorstep in the morning. They were polite and efficiently moved my stuff into their truck, taking care with the delicate items like the TV and the glass TV stand. They strapped my items securely in the truck, and we were our way. The unloading process was equally as efficient and they were polite throughout the process.
