Was actually a little disappointed with Uncle Jacks, the service was good. The food left room for improvement. (I only ate there once, so maybe xo I should give it another shot before I leave a review) I don't know but as far as first impressions the ambiance was ok. I have never experienced blatant racism the way I did last night. I made a reservation for 2 on open table for 9 pm. My partner and I arrived at the restaurant at 9 as expected and before we could even put our hand on the door to open it, an older Caucasian man came rushing to the door, staring at us up and down, spewing the restaurant was closed. However, you could see some guests inside waiting on meals. Before I could even say we had a reservation he was already pushing us away from the store front. I did my due diligence and went online to check hours, the restaurant was opened until 11 pm. Even their own website states that 100% indoor dining was back with hours Mon - Sunday 1p-11p along with Google search. I am truly disgusted as this was a restaurant I was looking forward to visiting despite the negative comments I read on Yelp. Great job Uncle Jack's. I will be posting anywhere I can about this experience. It is 2021. There should be no room for bigotry and racism in today's society. read more

You can judge a restaurant by the sizes of the portions for the price you pay- and Uncle Jack's did not meet my expectations, high price, small portions. This is a legit New York steakhouse and it met all our expectations. A steakhouse experience is all about the meat - prime cuts of the best beef, aged, beautifully charred outside and as red as you want it inside. Go for medium rare. If it's time to treat yourself to a great steak, that's how it's done. We had the porterhouse for two and kicked it up a notch with the truffle butter topping. I highly recommend that option. Melting into the steak juices it creates an indescribable flavor sensation. We were dipping the steak slices into it again and again. The sautéed mushrooms were an excellent accompaniment. Service is top notch. Elegantly attired and meticulously groomed waiters are attending you, and always in sight if you need something. The presentation and tableside slicing/plating of the steak was picture perfect. It's a small cozy classy place with red brick walls. Tables are a little tight and it gets loud - maybe boisterous is a better word- this in a good way. You will not be bothered by your neighbors I promise, and you still feel like your table is the most important one in the joint. The servers and busboys move effortlessly through the small spaces never missing a beat. You will eat like a king here and be treated as one too. We came for my husband's birthday, which I mentioned when making reservations. After the meal they treated him to a chocolate soufflé cake dessert complete with birthday candle. Our two coffees were on the house as well. I got the banana cream pie which is an individually prepared mini pie with glazed top like creme brûlée and just bursting with thick rich chilled banana cream. It was amazing. Oh yea this is an old school New York neighborhood steakhouse. Bell ave in Bayside has a happening food scene. Literally has everything. Heraldo was our awesome bartender. Had my standard Manhattan, ordered to Prime Filets with steak fries. The filets were so tender and cooked perfectly to my liking. The fries were huge cut potato, like each frie was 1/8 of of a potato. Crispy outside, fluffy potato inside. The steak had a really great chop house seasoning. And for two people with a few round of drinks it was only $200. To me that's a deal. The meat was really high quality. Sometimes your stomach can feel bad a few hours later but whoever their distributor is for their meat is a really good one. Love an establishment like this. They had reviews from major publications about the place too. I loved the vibe also, servers were in tuxedos, swanky kind of feel like from the 50's or 60's. Well since Yelp decided to remove my VERY FAIR edit to a review on Dec16th 2023, I will just sum this up. Overpriced, rude staff, and average food (for a $$$$ steakhouse). It started with the staff tried to seat us in the basement of an half empty restaurant. Waiter was very condescending to one person in my party over the temperature of his steak. Food is ok but the presentation was crap for the prices this place charges. Same nonsense we experienced 7 years ago here. We had plans to purchase a gift certificate for our parents for Christmas, but luckily we visited first because IT IS NOT WORTH IT! It ruined a special occasion for us as well. read more

I have passed by Uncle Jacks a million times. I always felt if I was going to spend the money on a good steak and I'd go to the porterhouse place not too far away. Boy am I glad I stayed in Bayside for steak this time. Uncle Jacks feels like a classic steakhouse. It has the wood and red colors that you picture an old time steakhouse having. We sat at the bar and our bartender Colby was amazing. He took the time to get to know us and learn our names. Very cool of him. I would go back just because of the service he provided. Luckily the food was equally as good. We started with cocktails and oysters. I had a classic manhattan which was great. The oysters were so fresh and the cocktail sauce was delicious. $18 for a half dozen. They were so good we ordered another 6. For our main we shared a Wagyu Ribeye. It was beyond delicious. The steak was a giant portion (as it should be for $80) and cooked perfectly medium rare. It was so tender it could be cut by my fork. One appetizer (Baby lamb chops), two salads (Organic Mesclun and an Iceberg Wedge), three sides (Five Cheese Mac, creamed spinach and sauteed asparagus), two steaks medium rare (12 ounce Filet Mignon and a 16 ounce boneless NY Strip) and two desserts (Tiramisu and chocolate mousse). Another less than stellar visit to this restaurant. Where do I start? Made the reservation for 4 people a week ago. We show up, the restaurant is not full and the hostess brings us downstairs to a stuffy, claustrophobia-inducing basement that looks like it's reserved for private parties. No moving air, ceiling almost touching my head, and no sound of people except the table of 6 that immediately went silent as we arrived. Not to mention we were given the most extremely tight table in the corner. We immediately refused the seating, all while listening to the waiter make snarky comments asking us why we did not like eating in the basement (not funny at all). They took us back upstairs and low and behold, there are quite a few tables available. (why did she do this?) Now on to the food. First there was a member of my party that preferred well done steak, the NEW waiter kept making comments to him about how he liked his steak, so much so that another member of our party had to scold him to cut it out, I mean WTH can't he eat his expensive steak the way he likes it? Uncle Jack usually makes great steaks and I ordered the 20oz bone in filet mignon which came with a 10 oz bone so I would have better off saving $20 and getting the 12 oz filet. Most steakhouses I've been to offer shared sides for the table, not this place, 1/2 -3/4 cup of spinach or potatoes for $12 each is just silly. So overall, for $500+ we spent this place just ain't worth it and you are better off going to Ruth's Chris for a steakhouse experience. A note to self, re-read my own reviews before giving a place another shot! Oh, and they don't have a coat check, so we had to maneuver around with our winter coats and keep them at the table with us. First time coming to uncle jacks. I must say I was impressed coming to this location for early dinner. This place is great if you are looking for a cozy dim lit place to set the mood. This place definitely speak relaxing for a romantic night out should the couple be steak eaters or even a place for group of people looking to go out for a couple of steak and drinks and catch up. I got 16oz boneless rib eye must say I couldn't ask for any better of a steak. It was juicy, had great flavor and texture was on point. The sauté mushrooms were good and went with the steak and the loaded potato wasn't bad. The waiter definitely was good with his recommendation for wine and Desert drinks. He was also helpful for those whom weren't familiar with being in a steak restaurant and showed he wanted people to get maximum experience out of dining there. This place almost punches at the same level as some NYC steakhouses, falling short in a few areas. You walk in and you get that familiar feel with Wolfgangs and other old school steakhouses. We started with bacon which was thin and over sweetened. It was more like candied bacon. Was not a fan. Our porterhouse steak came out as ordered, medium rare, and was delicious. We ordered the mash potatoes, cream spinach and lobster mac and cheese. All the sides were on the small side and didn't really stand out. I've definitely had better sides at other restaurants. They forgot something in the lobster mac n cheese....the lobster. There was hardly any, not worth it. It was a Saturday night and we were a large party and not sure if it's normal but it took some time to get our food. There was a huge gap between appetizers and entree and the table next to us got their food before us. The service was okay, nothing special. We made a RSVP through Open Table for 7:30pm and glad we did, as we walked in there were a couple of diners leaving as the wait was cited as about one hour. The restaurant isn't large ... Great selection of wines and cordials available and menu has a number of nice selections - from seared tuna steak, significant numbers of various cuts of steaks, chicken & pork chop selections and other seafood dishes. We tried the grilled octopus as a appetizer and it came out quickly and was fantastic. Dinner consisted of steaks, baked potatoes and grilled asparagus - all GREAT. FYI the potatoes are huge - like perhaps 1.5lbs each. You may desire to split one, since they are a la carte. Great service with our waiter checking on us several times throughout the meal. We did have an opportunity to visit a little with "John" the manager, who was very approachable and active throughout our dinner experience. Enjoyed it very much, will be back when/if in the area again. Interesting place. We were seated in the center aisle which we realized was not the place to be. The large number of servers were constantly going past us during the entire meal with food, and dirty dishes. I can't even count the amount of times I had to stop eating so I wasn't bumped with all this traffic. You have no idea who your actual waiter is since it keeps changing. Plenty of assistants though. Our appetizer was delicious as well as our salads. The burgers were fair to be honest. The buns were definitely not fresh since I cut mine in half and it crumbled into pieces! We just took my sister and her husband here to celebrate her birthday. We all had a great time! Our waiter was fantastic, and he helped us in deciding what to order. For appetizers we had the Caesar salad, the mesclun salad, shrimp cocktail, and a crab cake. The best appetizer by far was the mesclun salad! It was DELICIOUS! I never had such a great salad from a steakhouse. They put a generous amount of goat cheese and dried cranberries it it making it really good! The shrimp they gave us were huge! They were also delicious! The crab cake was good. The Caesar salad wasn't that great. For dinners we had the 12 ounce filet mignons and the 12 ounce strip steaks. The steaks were excellent especially the filet mignons! For sides we had the Mac and cheese and the creamed spinach. The Mac and cheese was good, and it was nice and cheesy! The creamed spinach wasn't good. It tasted more like kale, and was too finely chopped. For desserts we had a banana cream tart, chocolate soufflé, apple strudel, and a cheesecake. I'd say the banana cream tart was the best one! It was unique and so good! The apple strudel and the chocolate soufflé were really good too! The cheesecake I just thought was ok. Uncle jacks steakhouse for meat eater is an amazing place to go. My girlfriend and I went for a little anniversary dinner. I already had it in my mind of what I was going to get. First making a reservation was easy and simple and it does get pretty packed lots of people coming in so a reservation is the safe bet if you want a table. I'll start with the service, one word, exceptional. The waiter was knowledgeable of all aspects of the menu and of the wine selection and extremely polite. He would check up on us frequently and made sure our dinner was up to their high standards. The side dish that just really stood out was the roasted garlic mashed potatoes. They were extremely rich, buttery, and creamy the garlic flavor was perfect since the garlic was fresh roasted garlic. The mashed potatoes with the juice from the steak was just a beautiful thing. The steak itself we ordered the powerhouse for 2 perfectly cooked medium. The steak was piping hot with the perfect amount of char and it just melted in your mouth. The strip such intense flavor and the filet so succulent, tender, and moist. Every aspect of dinner was amazing. Uncle jacks is definitely a must do and a must do again! And yes I took the bone home I needed a moment alone with it not in public so I could be savage and make sure to get all the juicy delicious tidbits off that bone. read more

Second Uncle Jack's location I have been to and was pretty disappointed once again! The service by the way is really good! They are very attentive, but that does not change how disappointing the food here is - We ordered the bacon appetizer and the Fred Flintstone steak for one (medium rare). The bacon came with a nice peanut butter sauce, but the overall flavor profile was just salty. I kept eating more bread and drinking water - it was a sodium high. The Fred Flintstone steak was just BLAND. I good steak only needs salt and pepper and maybe some herbs to bring out the juiciness but our steak just tasted sad. I did not enjoy it at all and could not bring myself to finish it, but did bring it into work for leftovers and even the next day it was still bland and bad.
