    Spicy Pork Chop
    Anh N.

Surprisingly great pork chop. It was super crispy and not overly salted, so I could add some sriracha and chili oil as dipping sauce. Love the tangy jalapeño on top of the meat as well! The portion is huge which is affordable in downtown area. The server (possibly the owner) was super great too. Ordering was fast with a kiosk. It's hard to find parking though and the close public parking was $18, equal to one dish here

Review Update 2025 Many years later and I'm still a fan of Uncle John's! Their famous fried pork chops are exactly how I remember them -- crispy, flavorful, and pure comfort food goodness (as they should be, since that's their claim to fame lol) oh and that seasoning and sliced serrano's! great compliment as always! I haven't dined in for a while, but UberEats has been my saving grace -- the food still arrives hot, delicious, and just as satisfying. Uncle John's has always been my go-to for that perfect Chinese-American comfort mix: fried rice, pork chops, and of course, those eggs that somehow make everything taste even better! Consistency is key, and Uncle John's proves why it's still a classic favorite after all these years. Whether dine-in or delivery, they never miss.

The food is unbelievable. We got the steak and eggs and the spicy pork chops. The fried rice is unbelievable the Hong Kong French toast is unreal. Vietnamese coffee I could have 12. I will recommend this to everyone. I know on top of the service being wonderful and kind and checking in and the vibes inside were immaculate. Come here, please.

This place is still holding it down. Used to be down the street but glad it's here! Parking can be tricky. Street if you are lucky! But I usually park off Hill right before 8th. There is a lot you can pay a kiosk! Love the spicy fried pork chops !! Get is soo many ways. I love the fried rice with my pork chops! The soup is spot on!

The restaurant is inconspicuous and who knew they serviced breakfast because I thought it was a Chinese restaurant. I visited the cafe while visiting my son during the Labor Day weekend. My son recommended I try the peanut butter French toast! OMG it was so good, however the portion is slot so we shared it. The service was good and fast. The restaurant is extremely causal and typical decor. The neighborhood isn't the best however it's safe enough.

First time at Uncle John's and we were not disappointed! The host was amazing, helpful, and fast, answering all of our questions. The spicy pork chop, steak, and Hong Kong french toast (to die for!) were all delicious, and the portions were big. The cafe has a good vibe with nice music and a city view. We will definitely be coming back. Suggestion: Park a few blocks away and walk, it adds to the downtown LA vibe!

Ambiance: the restaurant is located in downtown, with two layers of seating area Service: very friendly staff, one work in the front as cashier and server, and another one in the kitchen, you place the order at the counter and staff will bring food to your table Food: their menu have classic breakfast items and fusion style food SPICY PORK CHOPS - **** lightly battered fried pork chops topped with serrano peppers, their signature dish, the pork chop is bit dry but very crispy, recommend Price: moderate portions and reasonable prices, expect $20 per person for a quick bite

Everything made to order- like "I see the steam" made to order. That alone is a rare feat in modern restaurant cooking. Opted for the To-Go box because of portions and time- but there is tons of comfortable indoor seating and plated meals for a 'take your time and talk' lunch vibe. Not too formal, and not too casual- very very local feel- which is nice on a Saturday afternoon. Food was delicious- Crispy wings, tender pork chop, unorthodox brunch side items (yes- Fried Rice!), and a perfectly balanced Vietnamese Iced Coffee (not too sweet, just strong enough). Service was absolutely lovely, patient, and professional. Gentleman at the register was really terrific and brightened my day. Located on the thoroughly gentrified and policed stretch of Downtown (IYKYK)- parking is ample and secure. While I don't make it to DTLA often, as a Valley girl- again- IYKYK...this is on my list of "stop if I'm in the area."

Definitely a nice blend of American and Chinese food. Liked the fact of the fried rice, teriyaki chicken, and eggs. You can't be mad at the Chicken Rolls as well. I will definitely be back for more options on the menu. Staff was great and food was delivered in a timely fashion.

Anything on the menu gluten free?

There are a couple options from breakfast menu that's gluten free, i think tomato beef and grilled fish as well

Do they serve Cajun all day now?

    No only in the evenings

Do they serve seafood for lunch or just at dinner time?

The other person who answered this is sus. They serve at all times.

Do they have $1 oysters? If so, when?

Most evenings when they have their Cajun Seafood Boil; but it is upon availability so best to call ahead or walk by!

Does the wonton soup have stuffed wonton/dumplings or is it just the long noodles? If yes, what meat is in the wontons?

The soup contains stuffed wontons, not just long noodles, as you had posited. Said wontons typically contain pork AND shrimp unless specifically requested otherwise (they're usually v happy to oblige). It's very delicious.

Do they serve alcohol or is it BYOB?

They don't serve alcohol, but allow you to bring drinks over from the bar next door that they share a door with.

Do they serve their steak and eggs combo during their dinner hours as well?

No, they serve Cajun seafood for dinner.

Is the parking difficult and metered?

Yes, there is metered parking that may be difficult to find.

Finally was able to secure a reservation!…read more We arrived a little early to our reservation so we made our way to wine bar while we waiting for our reservation. The wine bar is a cute little spot if you would like to catch up with a friend or a first date. The wine bar also has a small menu and a little different from the restaurant. We ordered basically everything we could in the menu. We had the waygu tartare which I highly recommend if you like citrus. We devoured it because the sauce + citrus was the perfect combination. Do note that I seen a few of their menus and this plate is not available so get it when it it. The cornbread! Everyone raved about the cornbread so we decided to get it. Do not leave this place without trying it. We had the Carolina gold rice and their beef ribeye. For next time, I will probably ask them to bring it separately because both plates are heavy and delicious. The rib eye.... As a person who does not usually eat steak and on the rare side, this place made me change my mind. The chef that is in charge of the beef has been doing it since the place opened so he is definitely an expert. It's on the expensive side but I don't think you will regret it. Overall would love to come here again. Customer service is also really great and willing to answer all your questions in regards to the menu and wine. Additionally we sat in front of the fireplace which is a little hot but it was nice to see how efficient this restaurant works.

We came a few minutes before the 5:30pm reservation. There was a line but was seated immediately after they opened. The server was happy to explain the whole menu and make recommendations appropriate for the crowd. Also appreciated her honesty when asked of her opinions as those were helpful. The meal started off with the bluefin tune and albacore, which was my personal favorite of the whole menu. I'd highly recommend getting these. The cherokee tomato did have anchovies as a warning. The cornbread was very peppery, which was a surprise, but it was still enjoyed. The pork chili stew we felt a bit underwhelmed but the tortillas that came with them are soft and really good! The steak was nothing too different from standard good quality steak. Another favorite was the sticky date toffee pudding, which I think is a must get as well. I like how the dining area felt open and elevated, appropriate to celebrate a special occasion. Service was so fast in refilling our waters too. Although we overall enjoyed it, we probably would not go back as we felt we were satisfied to just try them all once. Also the pricing for some dishes are not too justifiable. However, I'd recommend still going to Dunsmoor, it is an experience. They have valet parking but we were able to find street parking on a sunday night.

I was instantly so glad we chose this spot to celebrate our anniversary because it was the perfect setting for a romantic date night. Now, let's talk about the food! Everything we ordered was delicious, with the exception of the Korean aguachiles, which we probably could've skipped. We also tried the bluefin bibimbap, oysters, and the oh-so-tender short rib that practically melted in our mouths. But the most unforgettable dish was also the simplest: the Korean fried chicken. It wasn't necessarily something out of the ordinary, but it sure tasted like it. The perfect crisp, flavor, and seasoning had us eating every last piece right down to the bone. Our server also made the experience even better. She gave us some of the best recommendations and were incredibly attentive and friendly throughout the entire meal. The Mulberry is a Korean spot, but no tabletop grills. Across the street is another Korean place. Mulberry serves dinner Wed-Sun. The menu is kind of "greatest Korean hits", including a few charcoal grilled items. The drink menu is pretty extensive. It's a smallish space with both indoor and outdoor seating and a darkish, festive atmosphere. Here's what we ordered: 1) Korean aguachile--flounder in a cold kimchi broth that was partially granita-like. Refreshing. 2) Fried chicken wings. Pretty classic. Supposedly half plain and half soy-garlic, but they were pretty similar. A nice sweet chili sauce on the side, along with some pickled daikon and other veggies. I like a sweet glaze directly on my wings, but these had a good crunch. 3) Chilled acorn noodle. With greens, toasted nori and a jammy egg. Cooling, but the greens were a bit harsh for me. 4) Savory egg souffle. Nice but nothing out of the ordinary. 5) Spicy braised black cod. I was worried it would be too spicy but actually was very mild, possibly tomato-based sauce with nicely braised daikon and a side of slightly pickled napa cabbage. 6) Grilled beef short rib. Delish! More like a hangar steak than short rib. Came with a dipping sauce, coarse salt, lemon and a little salad with a pungent dressing. 7) Hotteok a la mode. A caramelized cinnamon "crepe" with toasted seeds and vanilla ice cream. Delish. They also had a strawberry bingsu (Korean dairy-based shaved ice) that sounded good, a collaboration with Korean Ice Co. down the street. Note Mulberry claims it's a no tipping establishment, but adds a 20% "fee" to your bill. Overall a nice meal, on the pricey side. I do think I prefer Japanese food more, but Mulberry is a good introduction to Korean.
