My husband and I tried Uncle Julio's for a change-up from our normal Mexican Restaurants on 5/3. I pointed out the Happy Hour price on Margaritas and my husband decided to get the Margarita of the month and I got the swirl. I purposely asked the waitress if the blueberry one was also part of the happy hour and she stated that "all margaritas were part of happy hour". My husband isn't a big tequila fan and not a frozen marg type so this suited him more. He is typically a beer drinker so he wouldn't have ordered this margarita at the $13 non happy hour price. She confirmed since it was before 6 it was included. We had our food, great service and asked for our check. Check came and I noticed my margarita was $5, and his showed up as $13. So we just simply asked her "Is this supposed to be the happy hour price". First she said "maybe because you are paying after 6" which didn't make sense since mine came up right. She came back a few moments later saying that the manager would fix it. We figured all was good at that point and then the manager showed up at our table saying "I was told you have an issue with the price of the margarita". I simply explained that we were didn't have a "problem" but was just questioning the price rang up since we were told it was happy hour pricing. He then said that it wasn't included in the Happy Hour pricing and if she told us that she was lying. HOW UNPROFESSIONAL. He said that she told him that she never told us that and that meant she was lying to him. We were dumbfounded. Our intention wasn't to get anyone in trouble but we just mentioned something we were told and that should have been an easy fix. He went to fix it and then came back "She is still lying to me". We said we weren't trying to get her in trouble, just asked about the pricing. He then went on very angrily and said "It's too late for that, Integrity is important around here." First of all, As a customer, I should never have been subjected to this at all. I don't know that we would ever step foot back into this establishment. I've written training about leadership development and this is NOT IT. She totally avoided us and I felt so bad for her. I don't know what she said or didn't say, and as a customer, it isn't my business. This is a great place to go to for a Mexican meal! My complaint is that the light is to dim you can barely see the menus. My only other complaint is that the Lotta Enchilada has too much cheese! When you take your first bite you're like " mmm! So good". You're 10 bite is like"same cheese so much cheese". Other than that it's a great place for a nice fast Mexican meal! Just had the worst experience at this restaurant. Made a reservation for 7:15 at 8:00 still had not been sat. Asked the hostess several times when our table was going to be ready, finally got escorted to a table that was filthy dirty and there was water all over the floor under the table. They said they would clean the table, again we waited. When we were taken back to the table a second time, it was STILL dirty. After this we left. One of my favorite restaurant! It is usually very crowded so understandable the wait time might sometimes be a little longer than one might wish to wait BUT the service, the food, the drinks and the dessert make this a 5 star establishment in my books. My fiancé and I came in for a quick bite while running some errands, and Stephanie was our server. She's awesome! Very attentive and super sweet girl. The salsa was not even real salsa had a bland taste. It took an hour to bring out our food and that was with the restaurant not even being full enough to take that long. Ordered through GrubHub. Order was started at 5:46 PM on Sunday evening. The delivery time changed three times to ultimately arrive at 8:30 PM. I called the restaurant. The man I spoke to said the kitchen was the most slammed he'd ever seen it. He said it rained and everyone came in and they can't keep up. He said he would push my order. A few minutes later I get a text saying Uncle Julio's could not fulfill the order and cancelled it. GrubHub did a great job. This was all on Uncle Julio's. So now it's Sunday night and I have a house with hungry people and no food! Advice to Uncle Julio's. If you can't handle large crowds, then come up with a better system or close your doors. 1/12/10 Update -- I came back for a company dinner. The fajita's have ceased to be amazing. In fact they were fairly sub-par. The service was awful. The waiter forgot to bring out the cheese and sour cream he asked if I wanted when I ordered and didn't even bring them after being reminded. His only goal seemed to be refilling everyone's alcoholic drinks as fast as possible to rack up the bill. This place is truly awful. It baffles me that people continue to be deluded that it is somehow worth coming back. Original review: I'm here to add my voice to the many others that complained of terrible service. My wife and I sat out on the patio a while back and waited 30 minutes for a waiter to even bring us our drinks, and that was after I flagged down two different people. The food took another 45 minutes. And this was a weeknight; it wasn't even that busy. Don't get me started on refills (or lack thereof). Now, the steak fajitas are really good. Really, it's the meat. It's hard to explain how they're so amazing. Maybe basement goat sacrifices to the Son of Morning? Because nothing else is all that impressive. Pretty standard chips and salsa. Guacamole is kind of bland. And for what they charge, it hardly seems worth it. It's like everything is overpriced to subsidize the amazing fajita meat. I was actually surprised by this place. Before I came it appeared like your typical Tex-Mex chain goin into it. The food and drinks were outstanding. We had the lobster chicken steak fajita combo and the flavors were spot on. The atmosphere was a little chaotic. We were seated in the center of the room so the ambiance was lacking. Understandable on a Friday night. Our male server only addressed me which put off my girlfriend. She's such a feminist I guess. Ryan and Omar were very attentive and accommodating, felt as if we were repeat customers, as opposed to 1st timers at Uncle Julio's off Stacy Rd. I am not an avid commenter for any type business, but felt as if this was exceptional service and very good food. Salsa is wonderful, fresh and snappy taste. Fresh fruit cup with my lunch was just the right amount and complimented the meal wonderfully. I indulged in their dessert menu as well and choose the "mini" size for myself which was perfect, can't remember the exact name of dish but was coated ice cream with caramel drizzle. We have the best service with Kevin Becerra Miles Norfolk. We try to go every other weekend. We go to Uncle Julio's for the Carne Asada and most importantly because the service we get from Miles and Kevin. We are honor to be part of Uncle Julio's. The Carne Asada is the BEST. We have move several times and its hard to find a good place to eat and to get a great service. When we travel back to Texas Uncle Julio's is our first stop. We have travel from Alabama, Kansas, Florida and now we are happy to be in Texas, where we come and enjoy Uncle Julio's and now with the service that Miles and Kevin gives us, their no way we go to another Mexican restaurant. They honor our request all the time. We treasure their time and service they provide to us every single time we go. Even with Covid-19 we go and support Uncle Julio's. I wish I could give this place no stars. I spent about 15 mins venting to my husband about my terrible experience, and I almost shed a tear when he informed me I would have to give this place even a sliver of credit. I have probably been to Uncle Julio's five times now. Each time, one thing or another has made me say to myself, 'I am never coming back here again.' But can you help it when you're invited by a good friend for her birthday? I can't say no, because she's pretty darn fabulous. So when we showed up to a half-full restaurant for a 1:30 weekday lunch, I was sure that our group of six women would be spared my past problems with the service. Not so. It took them 20 minutes to take our drink order. Another 10 to fill it. Then another 25 to come take our lunch order. For those of you who hate math, that's almost an hour just to order. I asked for a half order of one of their popular vegetarian dishes, which the waiter assured me he could do. However, 15 minutes later he came back and informed me that was not an option and that I needed to select something else from the menu. He gave me about 10 seconds and when I hadn't decided, he walked off and we didn't see him for another 10 minutes, when I was able to place an order for fish tacos. All told, it took 45 minutes for our food to come after placing our orders. I only ended up eating one of the two fish tacos because they were so miserably bland, which no amount of sauce could help. When they brought the bill, they refused to split it and had already added an 18% gratuity. And it took so long to get my card back to me that all my friends had to leave me behind so they could pick their kids up from school. I want the hours of my life I've spent at Uncle Julios back, with interest. On previous visits, I have been similarly disappointed by their enchiladas and other selections. Even their salsa is nothing remarkable. The only thing I've ever had there that was good was the steak fajitas, and even those have been hit or miss. The food is also really over priced for what it is. There's a special place in a a flaming, spicy hell, for people who mess with mexican food. There's no praying Julio out of this purgatory. Also, if Julio was my real uncle, he would be the creepy, absentee uncle who, on the rare occasions he sees you, gives you crappy gifts and can't keep his eyes off your boobs. read more

By far mine and my husband's FAVORITE restaurant. We've had almost everything, if not everything, on the menu. The best fajitas, salsa, quesadillas, etc etc etc.... I've ever had honestly. Everything is so fresh. They make their salsa fresh daily and the tortillas are made there right before your eyes too. It's a great atmosphere (could turn the music down just a touch) but it's definitely the best Mexican food ever. On the Border, Cristinas, places like that pail in comparison. I don't know about the posts that are negative about the food on here because we have been MANY many times to this location and we've never said "the food wasn't on par today" or it was bad. So I would try it for yourself, maybe it's just not for some people. But if you love Mexican food I'd recommend it for sure. I would have to say that I'm disappointed with the place. My wife and I came for lunch today and ask to be seated outside. First thing we see is table dirty, full of food and birds and flies all over the food. It is kind of disturbing that they can't clean the table quick enough. The worst part is that they keep seating people like us outside around this tables. the server was really pleasant good attitude we don't remember her name, but she was short with lite brown hair with glasses. She offer us the new deal of the taco Tuesday and we ask instead of getting two protein if we could get one protein and one with sauté veggies and the kitchen manager on duty said no. BUUUUUUU to the kitchen manager really disappointing on your part. we are literally saving you money by not asking for two proteins and If it was me I would have done anything to make my table happy since is was not busy at all. Other than this drinks were really good kudos to the bar manager, however not impress with the food, lacking flavor for a scratch kitchen. Hi. This was our very 1st time to eat/drink here. 1st impression walking up was not good. Outside foyer is dirty w bird poop, old gum and just need some love w a pressure washer. I made reservations for Saturday on Thursday. We were sat right at the entrance which was kind of awkward. I asked for a table more inside the restaurant but they said I'd have to rejoin the wait list. We were sat at 5:30, they said our waitress was running behind so another gentleman made sure we got waters. We ordered the guac which was good, and ordered our food right away. Our food took so long, it was at least an hour before we got our food then another 30 minutes before our chocolate piñata. The food was not the best, corn tortillas were awful. I did think the flour tortillas were very good!! It's very very loud and all of the servers were running around with like chickens with their heads cut off. I can't say we'll ever come back. Not worth it for the price. I have three kids so two hours is too long to sit at a restaurant. I also saw the hostess drop the towel they used to clean the menus on the floor, which is no big deal but she picked it up and kept using it on menus. read more

Decent food. Careless waiter. Discourteous management. We went here the night before Thanksgiving hoping for a nice dining experience before having to cook all of the following day. I was impressed by the atmosphere when we walked in, even though we would have an hour-and-a-half wait to be seated. Our dinner was fine, until the waiter at the next table dumped that party's tray of food. One of the plates covered with Creamy, white queso, red and green bell peppers, onions and some kind of meat suddenly executed a 2 1/2 sommersault with a 3 1/2 twist from the tuck position and upon hitting the ground, its contents was launched right at me, my wife and our niece who each had the misfortune of sitting on the wrong end for dinner. The Mexi-queso concoction blanketed the high chair, my wife's pant leg and shoes, and most of the now-slippery tile flooring which was eventually mopped up . . . BY ME AND MY WIFE! Our waiter, Nick genuinely felt bad and apologized several times. The waiter who dumped the tray apologized once about 5 minutes before we left, which seemed to be a task which was forced upon him. So, the manager comes over and after seeing the result of his staff's ineptitude, offers to "pay for one shoe to be cleaned." They didn't even offer to comp our $25 chocolate pinata dessert or one of their $12 "Top-shelf" Margaritas which, by the way, was not what was ordered. We left feeling like we would need to purchase diner's insurance if we ever returned. But then again, if we ever return, shame on us. read more

Service was good but the food was below average in taste, value, and presentation. I had read and was specifically directed to try Uncle Julio fajitas, praised for being best in the DFW area. I was skeptical. Three of us went to Allen location. Ordered table side gauc service. While it was cool to watch, the presenter used lemon instead of lime and I thought that was out of the ordinary. The chips were extra thin which was difficult to scoop gauc with. The gratis salsa had a mild chipotle smoke flavor and was thinner than expected. Waiter especially praised the fajita choice making sure to point out the skirt steak is marinated for 7 days in advance and "no gas grill here", always smoked or something to that effect. I thought this was a bit much. Service was above average with wait time less than 20 minutes for the main meals to arrive. The grilled and sliced chicken had skin on which was curled up in chewy areas which didn't seem appetizing inside of a fajita wrap. For $33, it didn't look entirely appealing or give a sense it was the size for two adults. The chicken slices were also inconsistent with one slice being the width of two fingers and another slice a sliver, just the poor presentation showed through in the prep work. The steak didn't look appealing either and looked like a cheaper cut of meat than most joints I've had fajitas from. Both chicken and steak didn't sizzle nor did it seem fresh. Hard to explain this but I've had better fajitas from Applebees. At least it sizzles there. As for the onion and pepper mix. They were ice cold and didn't look cooked. It just looked like raw onions. The only parts that were hot where the steak was placed on top of. Rice was nothing to note about. Beans were exceptionally strong with an overpowering coriander/allspice like essence (forgetting my spice memory at the moment). No big deal to make a fuss over, but first impression didn't impress. Total for 3 adults and soft drinks came to $70.08 with a 20% tip = 83.08. Don Julio just failed to reach the value in presentation, taste, or ambiance for this visit so not sure I would visit again. read more
