Under the Cork Tree wins for the worst service I've ever encountered. The waiter came by our table all of 2 times. We didn't get waters until after being seated for more than 20 minutes. My co worker had to go to the bar to grab our drinks and then had to wait an additional 20+ minutes. read more

Walked in here for a quick early Saturday evening dinner and I must say we were not disappointed. While I found the restaurant to be quite dark which I wasn't crazy about, we sat by a window in the bar which provided a little more light. We got service pretty much right away. I like the idea of bringing the wine and cocktail list on the Ipad where you can read through. We settled on the Lamb Ribs and the octopus. The octopus was just ok, felt a bit overcooked and we are not even sure if it was real octopus, but the lamb ribs were divine. The meat practically fell off the bone. I ordered Sangria which was refreshing and delicious. It is a tapas places so obviously the portions are small but I thought were right on point, not too small. Overall a very pleasant experience and I'm happy to return at some point and try out a few more dishes and see how they stack up. read more

Their raw oysters were overpriced( October, ,seafood season), for a dozen of raw oysters they charge $48 the smallest oysters you have ever seen with no crackers served.We were seated outside, party of 4, in a shade which was nice in hot day , but there were 3 old umbrellas bases next to our table , didn't look good. Good but not great. The ambience is nice, parking is surplus and convenience is great. There's just really no great fancy restaurants in sandy springs so it was nice to have this option. Our server, Brittany, was helpful and really sweet. I loved LOVED the artichokes. We actually ended up ordering a second order. Loved them. The rest of the food was pretty meh. Like really meh. The fish tapa is something different every day. Today, it was Chilean sea bass. The fish was cooked perfectly but the seasoning was lacking. The papadew peppers were good but tiiiiny and cold-- like they are served cold but I wasn't a fan of that at all. Wish they were bigger peppers and hot. The patatas bravas were decent. Visited this place on vacation in Atlanta. It took us 2 days to decide where we wanted to eat here. I'm so glad we picked this place. We had the crispy lamb ribs and the crispy artichokes. The ribs were so tender and they have the perfect kick to them. For dinner we decided to do the seafood paella (for 2) since it's super hard to find good paella in south Florida. It was delicious and just a blast to eat!! Drinks were great, food was great, and our waiter Brian was very friendly and spent plenty of time to catch us up with the menu. Cute little place with a nice ambiance and a friendly staff. I arrived half an hour before they closed because I'd been traveling, but my server was super nice about it. Five stars for the bartender. Hostess gets one star. Found Under the Cork Tree through Zagat. It had decent reviews, was started by one of the chefs from Hammocks (another favorite), and I love Mediterranean food. Made a reservation through OpenTable on Friday for 8:00 on Saturday. Looking back, maybe should have called the restaurant directly, but OpenTable was an option on Zagat as well as the restaurant's website, so figured the reservation wouldn't be a problem. We were celebrating a special night & looked at many restaurants before deciding on this one. Restaurant is in the old Joli Kobe space, every table was occupied in the restaurant part. Older crowd for a Saturday night, mostly empty nester couples. We got there at 7:40, 20 minutes early. I should have known when the hostess looked a few times before finding our reservation name & time - asked how did we reserve the tables? Bad sign. Through Open Table - okay she found it. She offered us a seat at the bar, promising she would come get us when our table was ready, disappeared back around the divider to her station near the front door - I was a little worried that we would be forgotten & guess what?? One of the problems with this place is that the restaurant is physically divided from the bar, the hostess can't see anyone sitting at the bar or the surrounding tables, she has to rely on memory, be experienced & on point in order to be successful. Or physically walk out of her station & to the bar, which takes effort at a busy place on a Sat. night - unless there is an additional hostess to help out, but there wasn't. The bartender was great, mixed an amazing Old Fashioned, was upbeat & engaging, which made our wait pleasant. It's a restaurant bar, but comfortable & spacious enough to stand on it's own. 8:00 came & went & we were not seated. Checked in with the hostess at 8:05 & again at 8:20. Another couple came in at 8:10 with no reservation & told they would be seated in 10 minutes. They were seated before us, probably at our table. After waiting for 50 minutes (granted we were 20 minutes early, in addition to a 30 minute wait after the reservation time and seating another couple at our table - NOT acceptable), I asked the hostess why the other couple without reservations were seated before us. She said they had reservations for 8:15. Offering no apologies, she asked us to wait a few more minutes. We ended up leaving, I was very disappointed. She had our phone number, called just as we sat down in the car, said she had a table for us & couldn't find us. There are so many other outstanding restaurants with amazing chefs, excellent food & great service, especially in the Prado. Although I really wanted to give this place a try that night, we ended up going to the Buckhead diner (which is much more than a diner), had an amazingly good time with excellent service & food. read more

On this occasion, I came here in celebration of passing the last in a series of professional exams (the testing center is located right behind this restaurant). Early Saturday evening (4pm) no wait, no crowd, hardly no one there.... I ordered a glass of champagne (I said I passed the LAST in a SERIES of professional EXAMS) to which the bartender asked which one rather than just bringing me the most expensive option...NICE! I opted for the cheapest one to be honest, not because I'm cheap, but because I don't know enough about champagne to upgrade. It all kind of leaves the same taste in my mouth so el cheapo for me please! To my surprise, it was a really good choice and had a touch of sweetness to it rather than a dry brut. I told the bartender when it looks a little low, fill ya girl on up....it's a celebration after all! In order to remain upright on my stool, I went ahead and ordered the grilled octopus small plate, which wasn't so small. The flavor combination of the grilled octopus with the white beans, tomato, red onion, fresh parsley drizzled with olive oil (or perhaps an olive oil based vinaigrette) was just divine! The presentation of this dish however is not for everyone...I started to take a picture but then I didn't (too hungry, a lil tipsy....me no know). Basically it's two rather large tentacles on top of the bean salad (to put it simply). I would have preferred it chopped up but down the hatch it went anyways! All in all after 2 glasses of the bubbly and this "small" plate, I left happy (and a lil tipsy). My total bill $35....a nice Saturday afternoon treat for myself! read more

Went here after work with a coworker that is a regular of this place. Let me say the outdoor seating was my favorite aspect of the place. It was a nice sunny 80 degree breezy day in the early afternoon, it wasn't at all crowded, in fact we were they only patrons outside. I enjoyed that. As for the wine selection, I drank every white in there, and I had rosé, and tasted a Spanish red. It was just ok. I've had better selections as far as taste in my opinion at Seasons 52, Marcel's for sure! and Capital Grille, if I had to compare. We also ordered the chicken skewers and the duck pastry. Let me say this, don't be like me and let the idea of duck and powdered sugar make you think the combo will be awesome. It was horrible. Even our server said, it's not something he could even describe, you have to taste it for yourself, love it or hate it. It comes out with fresh orchid petals I think. Real cute, tastes real bad. I would go back to try another dish, and participate in the wine tasting they do weekly, as we didn't partake in that this go round. We ordered multiple glasses straight off the menu. Which I also would not recommend. Our bills after tip, without the duck was $85 each. Mainly due to each glass ranging from $10-$15. We could have gotten a bottle, but I wanted to try different wines. Don't do that. Taste 2, pick one, save money. Overpriced for the quality of the food. It's a great area for a group of girl friends to go to on a nice fall day (we sat outside). The food portions are tiny and super expensive. There were about 7 of us, and we still spent almost $40 per person, and were not fully satisfied at the end. We ended up going to ANOTHER restaurant to get a real meal. The sangria, however, was pretty tasty. The service was also pretty good - nothing lacking there. Parking is pretty easy since this restaurant is located inside a plaza. read more

So I LOVE the ambiance here. It's really nice and charming. I love tapas, so I'm always up for trying a new tapas place. My friend and I decided to check it out one night, after seeing all the good reviews. They have an ipad at the bar to order drinks and desserts. A neat little feature. We decided to try a bunch of things, so we had the roasted red pepper dip with pomegranate and walnuts. That was actually pretty tasty. I love the lavosh that accompanied it. I opted for the roasted beet salad with arugula, dill, yogurt, lemon, and it was really good. That's where things started going downhill. The Spanish paella was not just crispy, it was burned to me. The rice was black underneath, and difficult to get onto my plate. It was also very salty to me. The flavor was just okay, and the seafood it came with didn't blow me away. The pasta dish we tried was okay. It had mushrooms and garlic in it, but even so, the flavor was not standing out. Lastly, we split some cake, and I cannot remember the name of it, but it was unforgettable. I didn't even finish it and that says a lot because I can pretty much down any sweet in front of me. I'm going 5 stars because of pizza man Caleb. This dude needs a raise. After a stop at the ol' Chapter Room around back, I was still hungry so I walked on up and decided to plop down at the bar after seeing the sign for $5 sangrias (apparently still thirsty too). I think the bartender's name was Scott who introduced himself which is always appreciated. Too common to go somewhere these days and the staff just asks for your order, no names, no nothing. This is the South man! You can be racist or hate me but at least tell me your name. I ordered the hamachi--light, flavorful, good quality, nice sliced peppers on top which were not too spicy at all. I could always use a little more heat but otherwise really good. Also got the almejas/clams. Decent portion, good broth, not overwhelmingly garlicky (not that that's a bad thing of course), nice seasoned pita to dip into, solid dish. Nice hint of smoke as it's cooked in the wood-fired pizza oven. So it's getting kinda late and I start talking to pizza man Caleb because my seat was closest to the oven. Seems like the kind of staff you want in your business--friendly, energetic, excited about the food. In between pizzas he asked if anyone had taken my order (they had), helped clear dishes and do other things probably beyond what he needed to do. After talking about the food, he gave me samples of the truffle oil (awesome with the clams) and I think the spicy coppa which was dynamite. Overall very nice experience. Friendly staff, good food, decent portions. The quality/quantity to price ratio was excellent. First time here and will definitely be back. I came here for lunch with a date. This restaurant is housed in a space that was formerly Joli Kobe, an Asian inspired cafe with the BEST in-house ginger salad dressing. Currently, it is a Mediterranean themed tapas kind of place. The menu is easy to find online and has a nice mix of Greek inspired dishes. We split the Greek salad and schwarma sandwich. Our server was very helpful and split the plates into half portions for each of us. He did this unprompted and I thought it was a really nice gesture. The salad was a great mix of cucumber, tomatoes and romaine. It had the typical olives, capers, feta, olive oil. Everything was very fresh. The lamb on the sandwich was perfectly cooked and it was obvious the bread was baked fresh. Between the service, fresh ingredients, and atmosphere, it was a great meal and we will come back for dinner or tapas another time. read more

I have been handful of times with my husband, friends, and family. FYI - it is definitely very easy to over order but if you are like me I love having leftovers the next day. Crispy Artichokes - The artichokes are definitely one of kind and so delicious that my husband and I always end up ordering a few. Crispy Lamb Ribs - I normally do not eat ribs of any kind. However, this was definitely well seasoned. Four Cheese Ravioli - I added chicken and shrimp to the dish and it was delicious. Under the Cork Tree feels like the nice neighborhood restaurant in the suburbs. I see an older crowd here, mostly people who parents and grandparents. They have a nice selection of beer and wine, but I came here specifically because I was looking for paella. Mostly a tapas place, I would say that their tapas are definitely better than their paella. Crispy Lamb Ribs - Quite possibly my favorite dish of the night. I love how crispy the ribs are and they're not the least bit dry because of the sauce. Almejas - Clams that were steamed in a light sauce. These were pretty good and lasted a long time. I'd recommend getting this for a larger group. Octopus - If this wasn't my first favorite, it was the next one. Tender octopus is the way to go, but I thought the portion was a bit small or maybe it was the day we went. Seafood Paella for Two - This was a little disappointing. Even though we're forewarned that it'll take longer to prepare, I wouldn't have minded if they took even more time to crisp up the rice. The seafood was abundant and I like that the rice wasn't swimming in sauce. Service was ok. I made a reservation and we were seated in one of the tables that use a couch as seats. It's comfy and probably a little too big for a table for two (it could actually seat 4). Biggest gripe was that it was a hot night and clearly one of their AC units was broken. Our waiter didn't show up with water until about 20 min after we were seated, but it was smooth sailing after getting water despite the heat. Under the Cork Tree is owned by the same owner for Hammock's Trading Company which is a few miles north on Roswell Rd. We haven't really wanted to go back to either restaurant. Maybe it's just the circumstances of dealing with hot weather, but the food isn't that far off from Hammock's, it's just Spanish-style food in a nicer setting. read more

First time at this restaurant and I didn't even know it existed! We've been to the brewery next door and missed seeing this place. My friend and I wanted wine so this was the obvious choice. They have an extensive wine list and their decor includes wine bottles. The ambiance is chic with dimly lit dining rooms. Our server was friendly and prompty took our order. We opted for few tapas to share: albondigas, lamb ribs, octopus and fried artichokes. Everything was very, very good. The least favorite for me was albondigas but that's if I had to pick a non favorite item. The octopus was cooked well and tasted fresh. The fried artichokes were a first for me and I liked them a lot. What surprised me is their extensive wine collection, all on an iPad. Each customer orders from their wine list on the iPad. The wines are divided not only by reds and whites but also grapes and regions. The food and wine prices reflect the upscale ambiance. I would definitely go back to try other food on the menu. Waiter was helpful through the initial ordering process, but he totally ignored us shortly after we got our food - a couple of minutes after our food arrived, he asked us how the food was, then he disappeared. He never came over and asked us if we wanted to order any more tapas; he never asked us if we wanted another round of cocktails or anything else to drink. He never asked us if we wanted to order dessert. And he never cleared the empty plates from our table. We were really excited to try this place out. We were celebrating a special occasion. We made reservations and were promptly seated. Let me start by saying our service was very poor. We ordered three different cocktails which took some time . While waiting for the drinks it would have been appropriate to come back to order our appetizers but we had to flag the waiter down. I'll start with the tapas that we enjoyed the polenta was good but not great . The Artichoke was nicely done and flavored probably the tables best dish . The ribs were flavorful and few of them fell off the bone but others part of the rib was cold which makes me think the ribs were warmed up . Next I ordered the snapper, after a few bites I bit into a completely raw piece of fish. I let the waiter know he picked up and apologized . My best friend and I went to Under The Cork for our birthdays last weekend. She was in town and wanted to try out a new place and I'd never been there before so we were excited...I like to consider myself a foodie. She made reservations and when I arrived she was already seated. Here is my breakdown... The good - the ambiance. The restaurant has a very nice vibe. Dim lights (we were seated inside) but not too dark that you cannot see the restaurant. The decor is wine friendly - which means it makes you want to order a glass...or bottle...of wine - and very inviting. I looked outside and the deck was nice as well, seemed like a good place to enjoy dinner and people watch. The bad - the food was just OK. I ordered the Saffron Braised Mussels and Clams (appetizer) and it was hit or miss. The taste was not bad but there were a few mussels that were very small, almost like an empty shell. The dish had a strong fishy smell, we smelled it as soon as it was put in front of us. For dinner I ordered the Wood Oven Roasted Leg of Lamb and while I thought it was going to be an actual leg of lamb it was slices of lamb. I wish it were a cook to order dish, had I known it was coming out in slices I would have asked, because it was too well done. The lamb was tough, so tough I could barely cut it with the knife given to me. The taste was bland and it needed more seasonings. The spinach was good and so were the prunes that accompanied the dish but I did not like the couscous. Actually, I ate a few bites of the couscous and pushed it to the side. The ugly - the service provided by our server, Dennis. It was awful! First, when I arrived Dennis came over and asked if we were ready to order. I did not have a menu so I asked him for one. He went to get it and said he'd come back. He came back 5 minutes later and asked if we were ready to order. My best friend asked him if there were any specials and he said "no, not really". OoooK. I told him this was our first time at the restaurant and asked what he would recommend. His response "it's all good" and then he seemed like we were bothering him by asking these questions. So I asked about his opinion on specific dishes and he said "they are different but both are good". OK, fine. We ordered and he left. He did not come over again until he removed the plates from in front of us. Seriously...Dennis NEVER came to check on us! Someone else brought us our food, not our waiter. A young female waitress was checking on her customer next to us, providing great service, and we asked her if she would mind filling our empty water glasses and she obliged. I tried to cut into my lamb with the knife given, I barely could so I looked around for our waiter and he was nowhere to be found. I made do. My friend finished her food and he popped over and picked up the plate and disappeared again. I finished my food and he popped up with the check. Dennis did not ask if we wanted dessert or how our meal tasted. My best friend asked him for a dessert menu and he sighed and said "ok, hold on". Dennis comes back about 30 seconds later and says "don't worry about a dessert menu, I picked out the best dessert on our menu and I'll bring it to you. Free of charge". Nice gesture BUT we'd asked for a menu to see what they had to offer so we could decide ourselves, he did not know if we had any allergies to what he had picked. Dennis finally brought a menu and we decided against ordering, for various reasons. He brought out the creme brulee he'd ordered for us and it was...creme brulee, nothing special, but my friend did not like it. We were excited to try this restaurant but we both agreed we would not return again, thanks to the horrible service we received from our server Dennis. Would I recommend this place? I would say 'yes' but you might get Dennis and I wouldn't wish that on anyone. BTW, they were not busy when we were dining so that is no excuse for the horrible service. read more

Ordered the seafood paella with a couple of small dishes for family dinner. It's been awhile since I had their paella so was very excited. However it was soon met with disappointment because the paella was not at all what I expected. For some reason, the whole dish tasted very burnt and ashy. There was no real flavor at all because the burnt taste masked everything. The lobster tail was salty. There was barely any seafood in the dish as well - maybe 20% seafood at most and the rest 80% was just all rice. I think there were two small lobster tails, four small mussels, and four shrimps total. We ended up throwing away half the rice because it was just too much of ashiness. Def not worth 40 something dollars I paid. Will not go again. read more

Full disclosure: Hammock's (owned by the same team as UTCT) is my favorite restaurant in Atlanta - and I was waiting months to try Under the Cork Tree...it didn't disappoint. Here's the details: Food: 5 Stars - the Meatballs on the Tapas Menu were out of this world, the Flatbread Pizza was above average - but the Paella.....WOW - best ever! The wife is probably tired of me comparing every paella I've ever had to a Portuguese co-worker's I tried in Australia....I've gone on and on for 6 years about how great hers was.....Cork Tree's was better! I will go back for that dish.... Atmosphere: 4.5 stars - cool look inside, more sophisticated wait staff (button downs instead of Hammock's t-shirts), base menu (drinks, etc.) on I-Pads cool touch - parking not too bad (don't bother trying to park close - like everything else in the Prado, car's putzing around in front of the restaurants looking for that one special spot) - plenty of spots in lot, less that 2 city block walk from back of lot to door of restaurant. Drinks: 3.5 Stars -Wife's cosmos were fine (could have been colder) Some Whiskey, Apple juice and walnut thing I tried just OK - but this team still makes a great Moscow Mule.... This is where I noticed a difference between the 2 places - drinks @30% more than Hammocks - but, it's business - I'm sure this is a much higher rent location that the old fast food place Hammock's is in up the road... Conclusion - I know it's unfair I keep comparing to Hammock's - (again - love Hammock's)....this place was great, too, and I'd come back - but it's a different vibe.....More formal. more sophisticated, different menu.....but still excellent. read more

This new Mediterranean/Middle Eastern offering from the people who brought us the charming and yummy Sandy Springs seafood restaurant Hammocks is a delightful addition to the Prado. Decor is sophisticated, modern and warm...a rare combination...I love the couches in the bar/tapas area. The basic sangria is perfect and reasonably priced. I look forward to going with a group and trying some of the pitcher variations. Food is very, very good. Gypsy salad, grilled octopus and the flatbreads are definite recommends. Will do paella on next visit. And finally, if you like creme brulee, let me introduce you to crema caramela...same idea with more nuanced flavors...YUMMY! read more

Some of the best food on Roswell Road! I've come here for dinner with my work team, but this was my time coming here with my boyfriend for a personal dinner. The ambiance absolutely fantastic! Come on Wednesday for the $5 Martinis! We decided to do tapas over large dinner plates and we were very pleased with our orders. We had the crispy lamb ribs, polenta fries, chicken skewers, crispy shrimp, and empanadas. Everything came out promptly and was absolutely delicious! Great experience with the waitress too! What a cool spot! We took up the majority of the couches on the patio area for a friends get-together and it was perfect for the occasion. The string lights overhead were pretty and the food was tasty (what I tried) I'll need to return before leaving a full review but we had the veal meatballs- my favorite. My husband and I have been here three times now and we love it. We usually get several tapas. Everything we tried so far was delicious. I was really surprised at the cheese and cracker plate we got at the waiter's recommendation since we were getting the moscato. The plate came with huge chunks of blue cheese. I hate blue cheese but my husband loves cheese on general. I decided to try a bite. It was so good. I love the atmosphere and everyone there had been friendly. I love the outdoor seating for when its cooler. read more
