We had a rate open night and decided to have a spontaneous date night at Under the Cork Tree. We chose the restaurant bc Yelp said it was a tapas restaurant and we say small plate menu photos on their listing. Whoops... they are definitely not a tapas restaurant. After regrouping our expectations, we sat down with the menu and decided to try the calamari starter and a bottle of wine. The calamari were amazing. They are served with a lemon aioli that is sweet and reminds me of the custard from lemon meringue pie. Different, but surprisingly delicious. For dinner, we chose the stuffed trout and the duck with a side of crispy Brussels. The two mains were very different flavors from one another but were all fantastic. The restaurant is in a great location. I can imagine on the weekends that it gets pretty full. There is a parking garage entrance just next to the restaurant. But also a handful of surface parking spots just outside the door. Our server was Taylor. He was very friendly and charming. He had great suggestions and likes to tell silly stories. I came here for a baby shower, so not the typical experience for brunch. The setting/ambiance was beautiful and I would recommend anyone to have a nice, classy/chic baby shower here. There were about 40 of us in the space and the servers did their best to keep everyone happy. We had a pre-fix menu which means I had limits to what I could eat, but I decided on the simple breakfast with eggs and breakfast potatoes. My friends had the shrimp and grits and the bread pudding French toast which both looked divine. The coffee was delicious and strong. The bathrooms were super clean also. I wasn't expecting to eat a light dinner as I was at an event hosted there. However a few of us decided as I had eaten there a long time ago and remember it being great. I was right. Our server Sara was delightful and on point. She gave us an amuse bouche of olive, cheese, and chorizo. I had the butternut squash soup which was rich and creamy with a tinge of sweet. The new menu is quite the adjustment to take in. A lot more options, but I miss the previous offerings. Fish of the Day and the crispy lamb lollies/ribs tapas are gone and they're missed!!! I'd have to say the prices and options match more of an entree style dinner and less fun bites to explore with traditional tapas. The one addition that I really enjoyed was the grilled cheese and the salad. It was some type of walnut apple salad, the salad was average the grilled cheese was scrumptious. Certain price hikes like $11 for a small plate of potatoes is a no go for me. It's worth a return, but Eclipse di Luna has them beat on ambiance and tapas options. They never made the bar more inviting after all these years, but can't miss what was never there. read more

We had a dinner reservation for a party of 8 at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, 8/30/22. There is a free parking lot, but I would get there a bit early to give yourself enough time to find a spot during busy times. Overall, we liked what we got. We stuck with vegetarian dishes. We got Walnut Salad, Caprese Salad, Fig & Farmer's Cheese, Fire Roasted Ratatouille, Spicy Broccolini, Truffle Cacio e Pepe, Crispy Artichokes, and Patatas Bravas. The Walnut Salad was the star of the show. Soooo good. The Truffle Cacio e Pepe was disappointing with not that much flavor. The Fire Roasted Ratatouille was just not that good. Oily, could've used bread. The Patatas Bravas weren't the best I've had. We also got dessert and we were really impressed! The Warm Date Cake was a delight! We were very pleasantly surprised. We went for brunch on Mother's Day. They were serving their regular menu and we had the brunch items. My kids shared the French toast which was perfect for them. We almost offered 2 separate plates but luckily the server said that it's big enough for them to share. They each had a piece of French toast. I came to have dinner with a friend and this place was great. The hostess greeted me and was very nice and pleasant. The waitress was very efficient and she gave us the space to have a conversation without interrupting us every other second. I was seated promptly and the waitress came over right away. We ordered a charcuterie board, patatas bravas, octopus and something else that I can't think of (I forgot to take pictures). I know, I am sorry! The charcuterie board was phenomenal and it had a little of everything. In all honesty, if you are not that hungry, that will suffice your hunger. The octopus was great and very tasty with a kick. If you want to explore your wild side, I suggest that you order this tapas. The other thing that we ordered was the patatas bravas and they were very spicy for our taste so we did not eat many of them. The restaurant over all is very clean, up top date, sophisticated and very nice. I am giving a 4 **** because they let a dog (NO SERVICE/NOT EMOTIONAL SUPPORT) in the restaurant to make it to the patio and I found it gross as dogs are animals even when we treat them like humans. There were ten of us, and since they did not have tables for large groups or have a table that could be moved together, we separated, so ladies were at one table and men at the other. The heaters kept us warm on the chilly fall night. Each table ordered family style so we could enjoy more food. When eating tapas, I prefer to stay with two plates per person and then add if needed. We ordered the perfect amount of food as we barely had a bite of anything left. There were four of us who shared the beet salad, broccolini, meatballs, calamari, potatoes, fish croquettes and chicken skewers. One of the ladies in our group ordered the cheese sandwich and green salad for herself. My favorite dish was the fish croquettes. It doesn't hurt that I recently had been in the DR and those were my fav food of the trip. They were crispy and lightly breaded with lots of fish and cheese inside. The beets were another favorite dish of the group. I did not have the meatballs, but was told they were good. The Pinot Noir from Oregon was a perfect accompaniment for all the dishes. read more

I don't normally go out for tapas, so I'm not too familiar with this style of restaurant, however I throughly enjoyed my experience! Our server was very friendly and explained the dishes to us very well! I ordered the Burrata and Grapefruit ($14), Truffle Cacio e Pepe ($15), and for dessert, the Dark Chocolate Tart that came with Pistachio Ice Cream ($13). I have actually never tried burrata so this was my very first experience. It came with toast, greens and grapefruit jam. I loved this. The tartness of the grapefruit paired so well with the creaminess of their burrata. The truffle Cacio e Pepe was also good, I cleared all of it. It stuck together some and the truffle flavor was not too prominent, but I think it was still tasty. Now....this dessert...... this was like nothing I have ever had before. Not the tart, but the pistachio ice cream that comes with it is life-changing. I have had my fair share of pistachio ice cream however there was something in this one that made it taste like pure luxury. Please get this if you go please. Also, a round of applause for this decor. I felt so cool sitting in there with the warm lighting, classy vibe, and comfy couch seating. We got a large seafood paella which was incredible and some tapas to split amongst us. Food. It was a mixed review. We ordered 4 dishes and half were disappointing. It's why I only gave 2 stars. When I look back at other ppl's patatas they look so crispy and yummy. Look at mine. Kitchen needs to be more consistent. Shame. Second thing is the foie gras. The menu description is misleading. There's *shavings* of foie gras instead a a medallion or a lobe. So for ppl who love foie this will be a major disappointment. Really need to change the menu description to avoid a 2 star review. Again shame. Now for the other 2 menu items they were superb. Both my friend and I agreed we would order the burrata and the croque madame again. Those items would get 5 stars. Service. It was excellent. Server and manager were stumped when I got my foie and they got my reaction. Manager brought out the torchon of foie to *shave* some more foie on my DESSERT. But it was not what I was looking for when I ordered foie and they were unable to appease me. I commend his attempt. But no cigar. Ambiance. We both enjoyed the patio. I think I can speak for my friend that we will both want to visit Cork Tree again. We just won't order foie or the patatas. We will both be back to try other menu items. Under the Cork Tree rates somewhere between three and four stars for me. I thought the food was fine, the atmosphere was nice, and service was good (friendly staff). It's not bad for a nice night out in Sandy Springs. They serve Mediterranean and New American cuisine, tapas, and wine. There's nothing wrong with this place; it's just in a market with lots of great dining options and I may not return for that reason. If you haven't been here, I do think it's worth checking out. My friends have said good things about Under the Cork Tree for a few years now. The restaurant opened in January 2016 in the old Joli Kobe space (RIP: http://bit.ly/2QVZ2qG) at the Prado on busy Roswell Road near I-285. It's just inside the perimeter. Limited parking is available directly outside the restaurant, but plenty of parking is available in the Prado garage (free). Under the Cork Tree is by the same people who own another Sandy Springs Roswell Road restaurant: Hammocks Trading Company (http://bit.ly/2DlGxUI). The two restaurants are completely different. Under the Cork Tree is more in the "fine" dining category. We visited at night. The restaurant was dimly lit and had an intimate, romantic feel to it. Seating in the main dining room is snug and cozy. Servers kept bumping into our chairs as they worked the room. There's a small bar, a private dining/wine room, and an enclosed patio decorated with string lights (heat lamps available in the wintertime). Seating for a few of the tables consists of tufted button leather couches. The kitchen is open and the main interior light fixtures - candle-style circle chandeliers - are cool-looking. At dinnertime, the menu consisted of soups and salads (starting at $7-12 each), wood oven pizzas ($15-19), entrees ($28-40), paella ($28-34; 30-minute prep time), pastas ($19-25), dips ($8-13), tapas ($7-13), cured meats ($15) and cheeses ($11) (combo boards $21 or $26), and Iberian ham ($24). Each category was decently sized with tapas being, by far, the biggest at 21 items. However, the tapas selection didn't really wow us. When dining here, it's recommended to order a bunch of stuff and share. Additionally, a brunch buffet is offered Sundays, 11am-3pm, and costs $24.95 per adult and $12.95 for kids 12 and under. Three of us shared the following: Wine * Bodega Piedra Negra Malbec Reserve 2017 (bottle, $44) Tapas * Patatas Bravas ($7) - crispy fried potatoes with Romesco * Albondigas ($9) - veal and pork meatballs simmered in spicy tomato sauce * Ciccioli ($9) - spicy pulled pork pate, crostini, whole grain mustard, pickled red onion * Octopus a la Plancha ($15) - fingerling potatoes, chorizo, salsa verde * Grilled Prime Hanger Steak ($14) - crispy mushrooms, arugula, spicy chermoula sauce * Wood Oven Roasted Bone Marrow ($8) - charred persimmon jam parsley salad Entree * 10-hour Braised Lamb Shank ($34) - creamy feta cheese, ras el hanout spice, pomegranate-walnut tabbouleh Dip * Hummus bi Tahini ($13) - traditional-style with warm pita and spiced lamb The Piedra Negra was delicious, though it needed to breathe a bit. I'm not a wine connoisseur, but I enjoyed it. Like some other restaurants, Under the Cork Tree's wine lists are presented on tablets. In general, the tapas were OK. I can't say I had favorites. They were all equally good. The Patatas Bravas were served in sizable portions. The Romesco was smooth and had an appetizing, nutty flavor to it. The Albondigas were yummy. Jumbo meatballs that were soft, tender, and nicely seasoned. The tomato sauce was full of umami. The Ciccioli didn't look appetizing, nor was its texture great. It was relatively dry and clumpy. However, the flavor was there. Rich and savory. All of the ingredients went well together. The Octopus was par for the course. Not bad. I especially liked the chewy, flavorful bites of chorizo that accompanied it. The Hanger Steak was also fine. Cooked to a mouthwatering medium rare, the slices of steak were tender, juicy, and tasty. The Bone Marrow was disappointing. Inherently, the portions on bone marrow are already small, but these were truly minuscule. We sent it back and got a new bone with portions no better. One serving at $8 yielded what seemed like trace amounts of marrow. If you order the marrow, order one per person. The Lamb Shank was mediocre. Not bad, nothing exceptional about it, just unmemorable. The Hummus bi Tahini with lamb fared better. In fact, it may have been the best thing we had. The pita was fresh, warm, and pillowy. The hummus was relatively rich, smooth, and creamy with distinct, succulent bits of charred lamb. Our server, Craig, and the rest of the staff were great. When we ate here, Under the Cork Tree was available on both OpenTable and Seated. I was able to book our reservation for free using OpenTable and got 100 points *and* I was able to get 21% back using Seated after uploading a picture of our receipt. I immediately redeemed the latter for $40 worth of Amazon discount codes. read more

My aunt, cousin and myself went to brunch at Under The Cork Tree on Sunday afternoon. Originally we had our hearts set on Tupelo Honey but realized that the Atlanta location had permanently closed and we didn't feel like driving to Chattanooga which led us to this hidden gem. It was our first time at this restaurant and when we walked in we were greeted with friendly staff members with smiling faces. The ambiance was very relaxed for a Sunday afternoon. It was Probably one of the only resturant's where you didn't need to make a reservation for brunch ahead of time. Despite the fact that It was raining outside the entire staff made the experience feel cozy, warm and like you were going to a families house for a meal. We had La'Shawn or as he calls himself Chef LA as our waiter and his knowledge of the menu was remarkable.I could see how passionate he was when It came to food and we got to experience that passion from some of his favorite dishes he suggested on the menu. Our water cups and wine glasses were never left empty and we never had to ask for a refill. That is a sign of how you know a good waiter. Even though there were a few other tables in the restaurant La'Shawn and the staff made the entire experience feel like we were VIP's. The staff was very attentive making sure everything tasted well from the appetizers we sampled (salted cod croquettes) highly recommend!! I got the steak and eggs and It was hands down the most delicious meal I have had. The steak was cooked right and the flavor in what you think is a simple meal was off the charts. Even though one meal was ordered wrong they were apologetic explained what happened and were quick to fix It. The transparency is something I applaud them for. Let's face It shit happens, people make mistakes, we're human It happens. They got the meal out quickly and that minor blimp never took away from our experience. We were having such a nice time eating the food that we never even thought to look at the dessert menu until La'Shawn brought It up. Again telling us his favorites and letting us pick for ourselves. As for the new menu you now have a choice of hamburgers, reuben sandwich, Caesar, steak ands fish...in other words, everything on the previous menu that made this restaurant standout and different from just another Atlanta restaurant is gone. I am sorry to give this restaurant a low rating as past experiences have definitely been better. However, consistency is important!!! What went wrong? First the bouillabaisse smelled fishy. Fresh seafood does not smell that strong. The medjool dates were way too salty. The albondigas which we have had before and liked was just ok this time. The watermelon feta salad had overripe melon. The hanger steak, cacio e pepe, artichokes, and cheesecake were underwhelming. What went right? All agreed that the walnut salad and calamari was delicious. There could have been more sauce on the calamari or perhaps on the side. The service was good and the ambiance and setting nice. At first, I thought there were six scallops on the plate, but then I realized there were only two, and the rest was polenta shaped to look like scallops. What a scam! Two medium-sized scallops for $18? Come on.The cod fish fritters were just okay; you could barely taste the fish. The lamb merguez didn't have much flavor. My mom's dish, the shakshuka, was bland and tasted like eggs in pasta sauce. We know what shakshuka should taste like, and that wasn't it. Cute little restaurant with an interesting menu. My cocktail was light and refreshing. The oysters were good although I didn't care for the cream sauce. Would definitely recommend the octopus. The scallops were perfectly cooked but the squid ink risotto was awful and not something I'd recommend at all. Make sure you have a reservation - especially on the weekend. The tables fills up quickly after 5PM! This is a unique restaurant that offers an array of "common" dishes with an uncommon flair. (Such as - Empanadas made with rabbit ) Take a look at the menu, I am sure there's something for everyone. Pay attention to the details- that's where this place is different than the rest. To start ..... This has One of the nicest Staff teams and Managment in the business... Our server Alex was superb and he doubled as our Bartender .. The Chef is a very talented individual and he and his team do an outstanding job !!!
