This is the worst experience I've ever had with a moving company. First they told me they'd be here between 1 and 3pm, but didn't arrive until almost 4, then when they arrived, they said that no one told them there were stairs, so they refused to move my piano, even though I had made a point of telling them that there were stairs when I called. When I explained that I had moved the piano in with friends, the mover said, "well you can call your friends back because we're not moving it." It was the rudest, most unprofessional response possible. When i got angry at his rude response, he called me "mean." Do not use this service. Find someone else. Anyone else. read more

I was given 30 days notice to move out of my home. I was not only on a 2 weeks vacation, but I got Covid near the end of the vacation. My daughter made the moving arrangements. Unicorn was going to store my things until I could find a new place to live. At the 11th hour, I found a place and just 1 day prior to the movers coming, Unicorn had no trouble changing my services from storage to delivery. No extra charges and a lot of money saved! The 2 men who had the job for my move were some of the hardest workers I've ever seen. My daughter and best friend agreed. The job was done expertly, with nothing damaged and my new home set up. (At least furniture and boxes-wise.) I recommend Unicorn and know that if I have reason to move again, I will definitely chose Unicorn. read more

While packing I noticed that the number of boxes containing shoes very nearly outnumbered the boxes with clothes. People, the first step is admitting you have a problem. But by this point it was 3am and it was time to start purging because there was otherwise no way to be ready for the 9am move and why would baby Jesus enable so many shoe sales if he knew this was ultimately how it was going to go down? But calm. Down. If you have unicorn movers, all will be well. They rolled in on time and commended me on my packing job, the fact that I had taped the bottoms of the boxes (someone seriously forgot to do so - wow), and that I was, by and large, ready to roll. Half-delirious with sleepiness and with perilously low blood-sugar levels, this was a massive relief. Carlos and Jose were super efficient, polite, and an all-around funny pair of movers. When I got back from a Goodwill drop-off, they were just about done loading the truck. There were minor snags: their website was busted for a while so they never got my requests for a qoute, and had to take my inventory over the phone. I also learned later that a flat-rate move is an option I wasn't aware of. They sell boxes and will take them back new or used and give you credit, but you tell me if you're all gung-ho to ever talk about moving boxes after the fact. Currently I find moving boxes mad offensive. But at the end of 7 hours and $450-something, I found my house clear, my dresser with clothes in place, my bed assembled in the new place like nothing had ever happened, and my shoe addiction ready to be unpacked. I recently moved and went to Yelp for reviews of movers. Unicorn came highly recommended by most, so I called for an estimate. Their estimate was so much lower than I expected that I decided to hire them to pack as well. Two days before my move, Lewis and Shawn showed up and had my entire place packed in 3 hours. They were super nice, and (as I'm learning as I unpack) did a SUPERB job at ensuring not even so much as a glass would crack. Since they did such a good job, I asked Unicorn if they could send them to do my move. They did, and early in the morning, I was greeted by a smiling Lew and Shawn. They took every single thing out of my place. They unhooked (and rehooked) my washer and dryer, as well as took down my floating shelves. They loaded and unloaded everything with great care, and were serious pros. I can't say enough good things about these guys, and Unicorn. My estimate was dead on, and when I had 14 more boxes than planned, my rate didn't go up much at all. I highly recommend Unicorn and Lew and Shawn in particular. And the truck is painted with an awesome unicorn so your shit'll look fly goin' down the road. read more

I hired Unicorn moving to move my furniture across town last week. From all the reviews and my first interaction with the person who answered the phone, I had high hopes. The actual experience was not so smooth. The movers were supposed to be at my place between 8 and 9 on moving day. I had to be at work at 10, so I only planned to be there for the loading of the furniture, and my boyfriend was going to travel to the new place with the movers and supervise the unloading. The mover called me at 8:45 to say they were leaving an area up near Round Rock to travel to me in South Austin, and they needed directions. I gave the directions and waited. At 9:20, the movers called to say there'd been a problem, and that they were stuck on 290, waiting for another truck to travel to them and help them. I assumed they were talking about a flat or something. They reached me while I was at the new place dropping off the dogs, and I drove by them when I traveled back to my old house. It wasn't a flat. The entire trailer had come loose from the trailer hitch, and had veered off the side of 290, and then rammed into the back of their truck when they stopped. Anyway, they managed to get the thing hooked back up and reached my house about 10:30. I must say it didn't inspire confidence when one of the movers asked the other, referring to the trailer, "You think this thing's OK?" Problem #1 was partly my fault for having moved the toolbox over to the new place. I needed a pair of pliers to disconnect my washer hoses. The person who booked my move told me that the movers would arrive with all necessary tools, including pliers, wrenches and screwdrivers, so it wouldn't be a problem. They didn't have any tools. Their solution? "You'll just have to leave the washer." Problem #2 was discovered when the movers saw a few of my pieces of furniture. Again, when I booked the move, I was told that the movers would wrap furniture cushions around all pieces of furniture, and that they would have all materials necessary to protect the furniture. They were moving a display case that has sliding glass doors and another vintage hi-fi that has glass shelves. They told me they couldn't move the glass, because "we don't like to move glass". They simply removed the pieces of glass and leaned them against the wall and moved the furniture without those pieces. The guys were friendly, and one of them managed to unhook the water lines from the back of my washer (leaving the lines behind, still attached to the faucets), so they ended up moving the washer for me. However, problem #3 was the fact that they didn't turn the water off all the way, but left it dripping, so I returned to find the area flooded. Two stars seems a little stingy, but three stars definitely seems too high. The guys were nice, they moved quickly (they actually seemed to be in a rush to get to another job because they were behind schedule due to their accident), and the problems I mentioned weren't insurmountable, just odd and/or annoying. I just keep going back to that phrase that wasn't even directed at me..."You think this thing's OK?" They moved my stuff in a trailer they were nervous about...and I was so ready to be done with the move, I let them. Am I happy I used a moving company to move this furniture? Yes, definitely. Do I think I could have gotten worse service? Yes, easily. Did the quality of my experience match what's been reported by others? No, sadly. My experience was probably a fluke, and Unicorn is probably a good company to work with, but I'm here to tell you that even with a good company, things can go wrong. read more

$164 for a move from one apartment to another in the same complex, about 2 minutes drive. This was after the 10% off. My heavy stuff consisted of a light couch and a table. I also had few chairs and some light boxes. No bed, nothing else that one person couldn't carry. They called me to tell me they were coming an hour EARLY. I told them I wasn't ready. They said, "We'll work with you." Huh? Just come when you're supposed to. I ended up having extra stuff lying around the apartment that I had to pack and move later, after they had left. They put the boxes on dollies and then bumped the dollies down the stairs. Didn't ask me if anything was fragile. They didn't break anything, but wouldn't it make sense to carry stuff down the stairs and then put it on a dolly? I packed in small boxes so they wouldn't hurt themselves and since I got charged by the box, this probably bumped the price up considerably. They charged me $2 extra because one of the items was a VCR. I asked why the extra charge, and they said for insurance purposes. That's probably how much a VCR is worth nowadays. Because I questioned this, one of the movers left cursing under his breath. To be fair, they were very courteous when they came, and they didn't break or damage anything, but the move ended up being so stressful and, I thought, somewhat overpriced, that I just don't feel like giving them an extra star. read more

I used Unicorn Moving to move my one bedroom apartment to a new place a half a mile away in June 2012. I called to confirm my appt. the Friday before my Monday move, and requested a wardrobe box and several small and medium boxes to finish packing up. I asked about the movers hooking up the washer and dryer and was told they would bring tools as well as the extra boxes. I asked to have the movers call to let me know when they were coming. The day of my move, the movers called to let me know they were five minutes away, and they showed up on time around 8am. They did not have any boxes or tools. I wish I would have sent them back to get the boxes before we started, but I did not. I had to move a lot of stuff in grocery bags and I couldn't pack up my canister vacuum. They offered to wrap my dressy clothes in furniture pads, but I would not let them. Thank goodness I didn't. I let them know I was concerned about moving my organic OMI box spring, that was brand new, because I did not have a box for it, just a bag. They assured me several times they had it under control and they would not damage any of my items. The mover Charles seemed to become a bit angry and had an attitude about my request and concerns. They used the bag to move the queen size latex mattress cover. When the time came to move the box spring in my new place, I asked them to please wash their hands. They had already gotten the washer and dryer black and wet from their dirty hands, and I was concerned about the box spring. It was about 100 degrees outside, and I moved in to a 3rd floor apt. so its totally understandable they would be sweaty and dirty. I was too. They assured me they would wrap the box spring in a furniture pad. When they brought the box spring into the bedroom, it was wrapped in a filthy furniture pad that I wouldn't let my dog sleep on it. The furniture pad was torn, and black with dirt or grease, and was completely filthy. They had a whole stack of clean furniture pads on their truck, and they used the nastiest one to wrap my brand new pristine organic box spring. I could not believe it. The box spring was saturated with sweat from one of the movers and had black hand prints all over it. They gouged my wood bed frame, as well as the new apartment refrigerator when they moved in the washer and dryer. After they left, I saw they broke the top off my Miele vacuum cleaner and never informed me. They delivered my audiophile grade speakers upside down, and one box was gouged on both sides. Thank goodness the speakers are nested in three boxes. They broke off the hose holders on the washing machine and stuck them in a plant. Charles and David were very polite, they called me ma'm all day, but they were not professional movers. I'm sure some of the movers at Unicorn are professional, reliable, and trustworthy, but these two were not. Unicorn is going to send a repairman to try and clean the box spring and repair the other items. I'm not sure what will happen after that. read more

7/5/16: I am writing a final update - we received a check for $300 (half the price of the TV), which I guess is better than nothing but we are still out for half of the price of the TV to replace. This whole ordeal is 100% due to the carelessness of the moving staff and the company "isn't used to this large of claims" being submitted. ------------- I am writing an update because we have never had such an unprofessional experience with a company. The owner called my husband and retracted his updated offer of $150 for a $600 TV when he found out we both submitted negative Yelp reviews. The owner, Mark, also hung up on my husband during the call. He also let us know the movers knew they broke the tv when they set it down in the truck but didn't tell us which tells me they were probably hoping we didn't notice it was broken. They acted surprised when we told them the tv was broken. I would highly recommend anyone either stay away from using this company or know that you are taking a risk with inexperienced movers and an unprofessional owner that doesn't know how to run a company. read more

I scheduled a move with this company a couple of weeks in advance and confirmed about a week from the move. I scheduled my move on a Sunday and when Sunday rolled around, no one showed up. When I called to find out why no one showed up, I was told they don't work on Sunday. I told them I had a quote for Sunday and their response was "not from us." My suggestion: train your employees better. Don't have them schedule moves on days you don't actually work. Improve your customer service skills. You may as well post advertisements for your competitors on your web site since you are basically giving your business to them through actions like this. read more

I don't even want to give them 1 star. I will never use this company again. If you take pride in your belongings, please do not trust this company to move you. I used them twice, and twice I was greatly displeased. They have NO knowledge of how to move furniture, or to protect it. I had MULTIPLE things broken. My couch was stood up on the arm end without being wrapped. I have a cream colored couch, and it is only a year old. The movers hands were constantly dirty, and got my furniture covered in dirt. They broke a lamp, my entertainment center, a mirror (yes, it was wrapped), and chipped a couple of different pieces of furniture. They treated my nice things like garbage. I have nothing nice to say about this company, who obviously will contract anyone to work under their name. They overbook their movers, and contract crappy workers to do their job. Ugh. So displeased. If you think you are getting the movers in the pictures they advertise on their website .... think again! read more

Procrastinators are the leaders of tomorrow. I totally could've had the first on this one if it wasn't for my procrastination issue, blech. I've never hired movers before, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Google searches kept coming up with Unicorn and a friend of mine recommended that I give them a shot...especially because they have storage facilities as well. Prices seem to be lower than elsewhere, too. I got a quote online and got everything set up. I had to move the date around a few times, but I was never penalized for it...I think because I was moving during the week instead of on a weekend, it was a little easier for the reschedule. They were to show up at my apartment at 9am, I got a phone call around 9:15 about them being lost. I understand, it's quite a path to take to get to my old apartment...if you've been there, you know what I'm talking about. I had more stuff than anticipated, but I'd called ahead of time to warn them about that. What I didn't anticipate, however, was the itemization of the list of stuff I gave them had to be perfect. They had to call in a few times to change the list, hence changing the price as well. Since my stuff was going into storage, they loaded it all up into the storage crate itself in the parking lot of my apartment complex. They brought an extra crate, just in case, thank God I didn't need it, though. I just donated some more stuff to GoodWill. They packed everything in very snugly, ran my card over the phone, gave me my insurance info and stuff, and were on their way. The two movers were fairly nice, can't complain too much about that...but they were pretty anal retentive about the list of stuff being put into the crate. I guess it's understandable for insurance reasons and stuff, though. Now my stuff is in their storage, for $50 a month...which is automatically being deducted from my account. I was very impressed with Unicorn. I hit the website on Sunday, they called on a Monday afternoon, and the movers were there Tuesday morning. And they were early. I had told them to come at 11am, and two guys actually called at 10:20 saying they were ahead of schedule. Suited me just fine, since I'd just finished packing everything. They were quick, efficient, and friendly. They didn't damage anything or scuff any walls either. The price was exactly the same as the online quote that I received. This is my first time using movers, and I was pleasantly surprised by the experience after all the horror stories. It wasn't cheap, but it was well worth it. I would recommend Unicorn to anyone looking to have things moved, and I will use them next time I move. *NOTE* I only had my furniture moved, I did not have them move boxes (I'm doing that myself). Items moved: Oversize queen mattress, box spring, collapsible frame, standard couch, kitchen table, two chairs, dresser (no drawers), single full size fiberboard bookshelf, full sized washer and dryer. Quote: ~2100 Final Price: ~2400 What went well: all individuals I dealt with seemed pretty nice. They were upfront and honest about their desire for tips, drinks, and food. Minimal damage to items and generally respectful of our belongings. What didn't go well: final price about 300 more than quote. Apparently Unicorn doesn't honor its quoted price even though they send someone out to survey the property and quote the work. Of course the team packing and moving has "zero" influence over this - other than they decide how "efficient" to pack your boxes. In the end, they are only there to pack, tally the items and give you the bill. Furthermore, the 10% discount flier you will likely receive in the mail after a quote does not apply to any amount above the quote. Asking for proof of where that is stated will go wanting ... they told us that "it doesn't work that way". My $.02 on Unicorn is that they are a solid packing/moving company. Overall I would have given them 4/5 stars had they simply honored the quote. Unfortunately, it seems that they quote artificially low just to win your business and then allow the people with "zero" power to hand you the final bill ... read more

I used Unicorn based on the reviews. Big mistake. They never followed up and acted like they were doing me a favor by even giving me a quote. Very pricey. The movers actually argued with me after urinating in my toilet when I was at work- I came home to find disgusting pee in my brand new toilet with the seat up. They broke a few of my things but I did not bother to contact them because they were so rude and difficult to deal with in the first place. I used another moving company for another move I had a couple months later. I would never use them again- especially for the serious money that I spent on sub par service. read more

I'm a bit of a Nomad. My cat Princess Zoe Zhou-Zhou (shut-up) is 7 and this is her 7th move. Despite my constant moving, i don't like the actual process. For the second time in 15 months (shut-up), I utilized the services of Unicorn Moving. Darrick and Darick (no kidding!!) were my mega-awesome movers. They were the nicest guys, clearly skilled at their craft, and just wonderful. Seriously, I do not know where Unicorn hires. Perhaps from some mythical place. Moving day comes and I wait for at least an hour, but no one shows up. So I called the office to check on the status. The guy who answers the phone says there is no move scheduled for today. He said he could find a online quote and that's it. I told him I had CALLED and had definitely set up an appointment. He just denied it. No, no appointment today. And he didn't bother to offer to reschedule or apologize for the confusion. Nothing at all. Just no. I should have known. Unicorns are a mythical creature! Why did I think they would show up!? Once again, Unicorn delivers. A good friend gave us his couch. A very nice couch. He lives in a third-story condo. The couch would not fit in his elevator.... Unicorn Movers, to the rescue!! I set up the date with no trouble. They had finished with their earlier job much earlier than expected and called to see if we'd like them to come earlier. For most people, I think that probably would of been great. For us, our friend was out and about and unable to come home earlier. So no biggie, they'll be there at the original time. No guilt or frustration over the phone, nothing of the sort. So they show up, right on time, with just a few extra directions from me. The two guys (I'm horrible, don't remember their names) assessed the couch, had me sign the arrival form and off they went. Champs. This couch is a monsterous flopping thing, with a split back. Each piece can be locked in place upright or lay flat or do a combination of of the above. So these split pieces literally flop about and they didn't even blink. They got it down to the truck, put inside, wrapped in blankets and secured to the side of the truck. For one couch. Awesome. They follow us through the crazy Saturday afternoon traffic on 6th street and Lamar. Now, we live in this house apartment, with an interior staircase with very low clearance. And these guys made it work. But first! They moved our old couch down the stairs to our garage....yeah, I know how awesome they are and even I was blown away. And the our old couch? Not exactly a wilting flower of a couch; 1970s solid oak construction with a queen-sized hide-a-bed to boot. Now safely sitting in our garage waiting for bulk pickup day. Our new couch made it up the stairs and into place with nary a scratch on the walls or a tear to it's fabric. They place it exactly where you want it, and even gave us a minute to sweep where the old couch used to be. The movers communicate very well with each other, giving clear directions on which way they're going to move before they actually do. There's no misunderstandings between the movers so that one goes left and the other goes right and your glass bookshelf meets the floor. None of that. Once they were finished, and graciously accepted the water we offered, we signed the completion form, handed over our credit card and paid less than $100 for all of that. (Not including tip, of course) For all of the above, we paid less than $100. I'll just let that sink in. They are funny, prompt, polite, hard-working and affordable. We'll be moving down south in June. You'd better believe Unicorn will be moving us there. read more

Let me start by saying that I used Unicorn for the move I had just previous to this move and did have a good experience. For this reason, I chose to go with them again...obviously a big mistake. I had called weeks in advance to schedule my move date and appointment time. The move was scheduled for the movers to arrive at 10 am. The day before I did not get a call to confirm my appointment but I didn't think too much of it. So the next day around 10:15 am. I still had yet to hear from them so I decided to call. A lady answers the phone and I explain to her that my movers had not shown up and I had not received any call whatsoever. She tells me- "sorry, I was out running errands"?! So I ask her if she can give me an ETA on my movers and she finally tells me that it looks like they are running late from a previous move but that it shouldn't be too much longer. I guess 6 HOURS later isn't too much longer to her because it wasn't until 4PM that they finally did arrive. Throughout the day I had to be the one to continuously call and check in with the office to see what was going on, and if I did receive a call from her it was only to be told a different excuse- they were having truck problems, another move ran late, they had to go back to the warehouse to do some download...excuse after excuse. Now look, I understand things go wrong and especially in regards to moving, but this was just inexcusable. To top it all off when the 2 guys finally did show up I was met with an attitude by one of the men that was as if it was all my fault and I was the one that had put them out. The entire experience was incredibly frustrating and to add to it the unproffesionalism was just unacceptable. If any business owner is okay with offering that level of service then I find it nothing more than pathetic. read more

I just used Unicorn for my second move within Austin and I could not be more pleased. With my last move, I didn't really have time to shop around and see if I was getting the best rate - I just used Unicorn because they were the highest rated on Yelp. This time, however, I did a ridiculous amount of research and Unicorn still came out on top - by a landslide, even. I only needed them to move a few things (Washer/Dryer/Mattress) and the job quote came out to around $100. Other moving companies impose a minimum of at least $230 and I couldn't get any other quotes under $200 (I checked with Aloha and Mustang and they were shocked at the quote I got from Unicorn). So that made me feel good about using them for my previous move as well! I set up my move online, and got an email from Scott within minutes to confirm. I was able to set up the rest of the details with him through email - he was prompt, polite, and extremely efficient. The day of the move - the movers showed up EARLY! It was AWESOME. They had the truck loaded in minutes, and were able to unload really quickly at my new place as well. The movers were all super-polite, friendly, professional, and people that I felt I could trust with my stuff. If you're looking at moving companies in the Austin area, I don't know why you would use anyone other than Unicorn. I highly recommend them. read more

Compared to last year's move, this one was a walk in the park, largely due to Unicorn Moving. Based on their Yelp reviews, I hired these lovely folks to fully pack and move us from our rental to our newly-bought home. Since they were doing packing as well, we got an on-site quote. We had to reschedule the quote a couple of times, but that was due to her getting sick, then me getting sick, then the time-space continuum collapsing... you get the point. No biggie, though. We did the quote and I got our packing and moving scheduled for a week later. The day of packing, the guys showed up halfway through the hour window I was given. I pointed out the few things to not pack, then left for work while they did their thing. Man, they were FAST. They packed up our whole 2/2 house in 5 hours, 1.5 less than quoted. They used up all of the boxes we already had, saving us about half on packing materials. The next day was moving day. They were conscientious about everything, making sure that everything was properly bundled and strapped down. They pointed out a couple of items that already had chips (old bookcases), so that I would know that it was pre-existing damage. We were loaded by 12:30, so they grabbed a bit of fast-food lunch and met me at the new place afterward. Loading took about 3.5 hrs, unloading around 3. One of the guys even helped me put the large bird cage back together -- it can theoretically be done with one person, but it's a b***ch even with two. Anyways, packing day and moving day both cost less than quoted, giving us a relatively easy move for less than $1400. It probably would have cost us nearly that much just to rent a truck and ply my friends with pizza & beer, so I consider it money well-spent. I will definitely use Unicorn in the future (though hopefully not for several years!) and recommend them to my friends. 6/17/09 Edit: After a few days of unpacking, we've found a few minor casualties of moving. -- My springform pan. Got it bent back to the proper shape, though, and would've been cheap to replace even if not. -- The dust cover of one hardback book. Meh, I hate those things anyway. -- A bird skull that was with our biological specimens got damaged because it was packaged alongside rocks... *cringe* Still, much better than we could have done on our own. read more

It all started with a yelpventure. I was looking for movers with good ratings and requested quotes from all of them. Unicorn was the cheapest, so I booked my 1 br apartment (2nd floor to 3rd) move. The time frame was 9-10am. Yes they showed up early (8:35) but I read the reviews and was expecting it. Besides, all my packing was done the night before. Anyway, they moved all of my crap, were really nice and friendly, and had a smile on when they realized the quote said 2 flights but it was really 4. The only thing that got broken was a cloth handle on my laundry hamper, but thats probably because it was packed with clothes and other assorted items. I could care less. SO anyway, Unicorn saved me and my oversized furniture in my move. We hired Unicorn again as our first experience about eight months ago was so positive. I thought I might be let down after such a great first experience - I didn't think it would be possible to maintain the standards. However, Unicorn did an awesome job. Unicorn showed up on time maybe even a little early. The guys worked hard - were extremely careful with my furniture - nothing was damaged - not one ding scratch or bump. After we packed up our apartment - we left to meet the truck at our new house. Unicorn was very fast getting to the house - there was no wasting of time. Thank you Unicorn. You are awesome. Most expensive of the three places I called, it came out to be $92.50 per hour (2 hour minimum) Breakdown: 45 min. of Loading Up (ground floor), 30 min or drive time, 45 min of Unloading (second floor). Late, but called to let me know. Moved a 2 br apartment, of which included: 1. Queen size Tempurpedic mattress 2. Full sized mattress and box spring 3. Tube television = awful to move 4. Front loading Washer and Dryer 5. 2 couches 6. 2 dresser: about 130 lbs. each 7. Misc. (fold tables, etc.) Pros: The moved a ton of stuff, quickly! (we helped a little bit to make sure everyone would go not much). In 2 hours, they moved what would have taken me at least 8 hours to move. Cons: Weren't gentle with washer and dryer going up the stairs and so there were a few dings, they put a hole in the bottom of my practically brand new box spring, and left a huge(1 ft * 2 ft) arm print on my wall. My thought is that moving gets dirty: so there were black handprints on my white couches where they grabbed it, Tempurpedic picked up hand prints in 4 places or so places that won't come out, and handful of other things. * Overall, I am thrilled with what they accomplished...next time, I'll be more conscious of wrapping things up that I'm worried about being stained. read more

Awful experience. Know up front they only insure .60 cents for every pound. If they drop your 29 pound 2000 TV, you might get 30 or 40 bucks. Trash. They don't move bags, electronics, will sweat on your furniture, bitch and complain about how difficult your furniture is to move, and then get huffy if you don't tip. We are talking a one bedroom apartment building to building move within the same complex took FOUR HOURS. At 100 extra per hour. Do not hire these clowns. I moved from a house in South Austin to a 1-bed apartment near downtown in about 90 minutes with these guys. Granted, I had no big furniture, but still a garage full of crap plus 20 heavy boxes. The two movers were friendly and down-to-earth. They were a little rough with some items that I thought could've used more care, but I'm all moved in now and nothing seems to be damaged. 4 out of 5 stars because the movers showed up early at 12:45 when they were supposed to get there between 2:00 and 4:00. I called early that morning to confirm for 2:00 and they said they'd call before they headed out to the house. Oh well. read more

Oh man, these guys are so great. Here's the thing, the g/f and I have finally gotten some decent furniture over the years and we're gainfully employed and tired of finding friends to help us move the heavy stuff. And with difficult work schedules, it just seemed easier to hire someone. I emailed them a few weeks ago with different furniture lists and got an intial quote of $325 for a lot of furniture and 40 one-man boxes. On the actual moving day, we had a lot less for them to take than we initially anticipated. What we moved: a couch, a chair, an ottoman, a dining room table and the leaf, a tv, a big computer desk we couldn't break down, a queen bed, box spring, frame, a big wall mirror, and a decorate piece of iron that won't fit in our cars. No kidding, the entire thing took 1 hour. 1 hour to pack it up, drive it over, and unload it. Jose and Miguel were so sweet and helpful and amused that my g/f had been able to move so much herself. They immediately adjusted our quote over the phone and we got all that moved for $189. I am definitely using this company next time I move. I couldn't be more pleased. read more

Oops. Yelp is all over me to finish this draft and post it. Alright, alright! This is now outdated (moved in June) , I apologize, but hopefuly still helpful to someone. We were combining households and thus was interested in being quoted on inventory rather than hours or gas milegage. Online quote was easy to use, I got a follow up phone call to clarify. We needed them to stop at one house, load up, stop at another, load, then finally unload at final destination. I got the Yelp discount and she sent me over a quote. It was a little over $500 and included two movers, a truck, moving pads, etc., and however long it took. I got some other quotes (and also compared to just getting our own truck + movers) and thi swas the most inexpensive option. The movers arrived on time and worked quickly through stop one. One guy seemed a little grumpy (was that way all day) but the other was very Friendly and pleasent. We ended up working almost soley with him when it came to direction as to where things went, etc. Grumpy guy had a bit of a `tude, but did what had to be done and took care with our items. When we arrived at stop two it was a bit difficult navigating the parking lot as well as the stairs/entryway to my apartment. It also turned out that I either forgot (or did not audit the quote) to mention the half stairway. Grumpy wasn't happy about it, but they got it done. Unloading all our crap into our tiny new space was an adventure. Pretty much everything survived, save a scratch here or there. We were hours in by the time we arrived at the new pad, so we bought sandwiches. They accepted our offer, however, the guys wanted to just finish the job and waited til the end to eat. They check off your inventory as they go, and it turned out we had tons of extra boxes and a few extra items. I mean an embarassing amount of extra boxes. Who knew we had so much shit? We had for the most part had everything labeled and organized, so hopefully the extra shizzo didn't hold them up too much. Friendly (Aaron)was very accomodating and only adjusted the quote slightly higher, and in turn we gave em a fat tip. They left us with a comment card and emphasized customer satisfaction was a priority, and it was important that we fill out and return asap. All in all, I think we got a very fair price, and the move went smoothly. (I would have paid double not to have to it myself!) It's too bad we got Grumpy on the job, but Friendly was great, and the important part is the job was Done. Would not hestitate to use them again. read more

I used Unicorn moving last week for my move. They showed up on time, moved all my things quickly and with care, didn't drive like heathens to get to my new place, and unpacked quickly! They were really nice guys. They were kind to my furniture even though most of it sucks and is the "screw together yourself" Target kind. They re-taped the boxes that I half-assed taped. They moved all my boxes of records. Do you know how heavy a box of records is? And, I have lots of them! They didn't even mind the crazy amount of dust or hidden stash of trash that my dog kept under the couch. They were so respectful of our stuff and smiled the whole time. And, did I mention they were quick! I would highly recommend them. The whole move took about 2 hours (and I moved across town) and was less than $300. They wrapped all the mirrors, the made sure our furniture was secure and wrapped in blankets. In fact, I am pretty sure they were nicer to our stuff than we are. I almost think the packing blankets where worth more than our stuff. But, they treated it all as if it were fine antiques and Tiffany lamps. I really appreciated the work they did in the time they did it. If I move again, I will for sure use Unicorn. Thanks, y'all! read more

I hired Unicorn Moving to pack and move our things out of our house to a temporary storage facility for a few months while our house is being remodeled. We used their packing service, storage crates and facility in addition to the POD service. They did a great job! The last thing clients remember is the feeling we have when the PODS, crates, and crew drive away and the house is empty. I can confidently say that I have never been more pleased. Ronnie, Shawn, Daniel, and Brent packed my house with extreme care, concern and regard for my wishes and our "stuff". Add Burton on moving day - and I had an ALL STAR TEAM! Ronnie - He did a superb job of explaining every single step. From the moment they walked into my home to the minute they pulled out, he was the big picture guy. He explained process, charges, materials. I just couldn't have been happier having Ronnie as the guy who explained it all. He has a bright future ahead with Unicorn. I spent a little time at the end of Day 1 talking with Ronnie. I am so proud of him. He is on the straight and narrow path and knows what he wants and where he's going. Shawn - What I love about Shawn is his very positive, upbeat attitude! He is definitely hyperactive (he reminds me of my husband's hyperactivity), but man, that guy gets it done! And he has fun while doing it! He enjoys life and is just a delight to have around. He is such an asset to the team! Daniel - The first day Daniel was very quiet, listening to his music while he packed. The second day, wow! Without those headphones while he was moving, he just got down to business and took charge. He made sure everything I needed was taken care of. He asked me how I wanted certain things packed, where I wanted them (in the POD or crate), and so on. Daniel is a keeper and I hope he realizes that his concern for the clients' wishes is much appreciated. Brent - What a crazy worker. I am so proud of Brent and his willingness to do a great job for Unicorn clients. Brent is a quiet guy (he reminds me of my youngest son in a way) but he can get it done. He has such a bright future and I am so very confident that his path to success is lined with people like Unicorn , who are obviously a great employer and role model to the team. Burton - Although I did not get the opportunity to know Burton like I did the other guys, he is a stand up guy and did a great job. What I loved to see when watching Burton work is his ability to creatively think outside the box. He always had a quick solution to remedy something (sometimes shot down by the others) but nonetheless, he did not hesitate to offer his suggestions. I personally thought some of them were good solutions. I love to see a desire to solve problems - that's what I do all day long in my profession! Scott, last but not least, you provided great quotes, revised them when my needs changed and did an awesome job of keeping me informed with schedules, arrivals, costs, etc. Scott, great job! Kuddos to you all. I couldn't be happier and I hope that Ronnie, Shawn, Daniel, Brent and Burton are still with you come June or July when it's time to move back into my home. Hire. These. Movers. On time, considerate, FAST, careful, chill. Bradley and Sal were above-and-beyond awesome. They disassembled furniture, wrapped fragile stuff in blankets, asked me if a broken picture frame was broken already (it wasn't their fault, but I appreciated that they asked). The most amazing thing was the Tetris they pulled--they managed to fit the entire contents of my 1BR apartment into a 5x10 storage unit in under two hours. It wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling full by the time they were done, but they got every single thing in there. A lifesaver. Cannot recommend Unicorn enough. read more

I highly recommend Unicorn Movers! They were very prompt and on time (usually early too). I used them when I moved from apt to apt while living in Austin. Their prices are very good and I have never had any of my furniture damaged. One time, they had scheduled my move for a Sunday (normally they don't work Sundays). I didn't realize this, but once I called to confirm my appointment, it was obvious that they had made the mistake. However, they were very nice about it and still moved me on Sunday! I tipped them extra for coming out on their day off, even though the company had made the mistake. Great customer service! read more

Overall, I had a great experience with these guys when I had to move from West Campus to the Arboretum area. They gave me the lowest quote out of 5 or 6 other moving companies, which is awesome. The movers arrived on time and were friendly and professional. They were efficient and I saw a lot of blankets being wrapped around my furniture. In the end, there were a couple scratches on some of the larger pieces, but that's to be expected, especially considering the ridiculous winding staircase at my old apartment. All in all, the entire move took about an hour and a half. Then again, I don't have a lot of stuff. I'd definitely use them again, but I hope I don't have to anytime soon.. moving is such a pain! I've moved a few times in the ten years that I've lived in Austin, but never has a move gone as smoothly as it did with Unicorn Movers. First, within a few hours of requesting a quote online, someone contacted me to go over my list and give a price -- a good price, with an added discount. On the day before the move, Unicorn called to confirm and let me know by what time to expect our movers. Sure enough, the next day they were right on time. The movers went over our list and within an hour they had all our furnishings on the truck. They drove it across town to our new address and had it all unloaded in less than an hour and a half. That alone is worth a high rating, but Unicorn really went above and beyond in customer service. The movers were not only extremely careful with my furniture, but they were very polite and friendly. They even offered to move a bookshelf when I realized I didn't like where I'd put it a half hour earlier. Highly recommended. read more
