I'm usually big on pizza, to the point I almost even claim there's no bad pizza. Not so much yesterday. I've had Union pizza before. It seems reasonably good most times. I ordered a large pie with multiple toppings and an order of fettuccine pasta that, according to their menu, serves 1-2 people. At $13.00, I figured that was reasonable. A happy meal is bigger than what I got. There's no way you can split this pasta up for two people and call it dinner. An unnamed chain restaurant would offer more. The flavor was definitely nothing to call home about. The pie was warm at best when I got home, only 1-1/2 miles away. The cheese was not evenly melted all the way around. As I tried to eat one slice, everything came flying off the crust. It was a mess. (Unmelted cheese doesn't hold the ingredients together). As much as I am a fan of pizza, for the first time, I found it was a chore to eat the one slice. I paid $27.00 for the pie. I usually get good pizzas at that price. Not this time. I was disappointed. The service was pleasant enough. I can't complain there. But come on guys, at these prices, better pizzas and pastas are in order and should be expected. No disrespect intended. I have been to Chicago a great deal, and one thing I miss is the deep dish pizzas. When I heard about the Union Pizza Company - I was excited. I phoned in and ordered the Medium "Village" and it was utter perfection!! Pepperoni, Sausage, ham and mushrooms. A great thick pie, with a perfect crust. They said it would take 30 mins - which seems like a decent time for this. I have to agree with the other reviewed - this is one of the best pizzas I have had! Rounding up to 4 as I enjoyed the vibe and the service was very positive. I had Chicago pizza last November for the first time and was hooked! When a friend recommended this place a lunch run was made! Found that they have a 2 slice special that features a thick one that is predetermined for the day and a thin one that you select your topping for, plus drink. While I am not a fan of mushrooms I found the thick slice meatball offering solidly palatable, being the lunch special the tomato toppings had lost their "fresh out of the oven" shine. The thin diddy was delicious as it was not oily, and I added a touch of red pepper to it. When I need my carb load, or wish to go out for pizza I shall trek back to this place for sure! read more

They get bum rushed between 3-8 or so. Deep dish also takes about 35-45 minutes, so seriously, call the f--k ahead if you want a fast experience. Ordered the Chicago style pizza with spinach and eggplant and had it delivered to eat as we watched President Obama's goodbye speech. He spoke from Chicago, and Chicago is his adopted home. Part of what make a business, in my opinion, is how they handle issues when things go wrong. I ordered Union pizza for the first time last night through an UberEats promotion. The pizza was on time, but the wrong size, medium instead of large, and missing the black olives I paid extra for. I called the restaurant to see what was up. I ended up speaking to the assistant manager, David I think, who was very nice and apologetic - he told me to eat the pizza we had and they would be sending a new large one out. The new pizza came, and then David called me back saying they would also be refunding my order as well. That, to me, was going above and beyond to rectify a problem. So, how was the pizza? Very good - we ordered a 12" Union deep dish pizza with black olives added. I asked for light sauce and it was still pretty saucey so unless you are a HUGE sauce fan, I would highly recommend light sauce. The slices were large and filling, the toppings were good, and the deep dish crust was delicious. I'd ordinarily give 4 stars but the customer service with the order issue pushed it to 5. It is pretty clean and the staff is super friendly. We ordered the DEEP dish style pizza, a popular item on their menu. Also, we ordered a side of the garlic knots. Excellent first time experience, was in the area and looking to Yelp for a little help, Union pizza co. had a very good overall rating a great pics. Being a pizza love I'm always in search of new pizza joints with pizza out of the ordinary, when I saw the Chicago style pizza I knew I had to try this place. Very nice and cheerful staff, the place is small with a handful of tables, but there is lots of covered tables outside with ceiling heaters for those chilly nights, we sat outside. There is no table service, you order your pie at the counter you get a number and find a table, they do bring your food to the table and they did come by and asked if everything was fine and refilled our drinks. Ok now the food we ordered the garlic knots, very garlicy ( which we loved) and the marinara sauce " WOW " all I can say is excellent, I have never had a marinara sauce this fresh tasting . Then there was the " CHICAGO STYLE PIZZA "I have to say pretty damm good, excellent flavor, a little disappointed with the sausage but like I said pizza was well worth it, next visit I think I will try their regular pizza's. I decided to treat myself to lunch @ Bristol Farms but after seeing the prices I decided not to. I am cheap when it comes for lunch, I walked out of Bristol Farms and saw the small pizza place, I love pizza so I had to check it out. They charge you per slice and then they charge you for extra toppings so I payed almost $5.00 for a mushroom and spinach pizza. I hate restaurants that advertise a slice for $2.75 and then they say "charge for extra toppings" I'd rather know it's $5.00 with everything included. The size is pretty good and the sauteed mushrooms and spinach were very fresh. I liked it, next time I'll just order a whole pizza for $18.00 instead of an overpriced slice. read more

My family and I are from Chicago and we were more than impressed with the deep dish pizza! We didn't expect much because most California pizza pales in comparison to the pizza from The Windy City, but we had a taste for pizza so we decided to try a new spot solely based off of the other Yelp! reviews. There were three of us ladies, so we ordered the meal sized Veggie Chopped Salad and a medium Sonoma Deep Dish and substituted chicken sausage for chicken, what an amazing option that would probably be laughed at in Chicago, but a healthier choice that we more than welcomed. We are all SO impressed by the pizza. The deep dish crust resembles that of a Giordano's, and is layered with cheese over the crust (under all the veggies) and another light layer of cheese over the veggies. The tomatoes, eggplant, and roasted red/yellow peppers were cooked to perfection. This pizza was arguably better than any Chicago deep dish pizza we've ever had. This was a great place to satisfy my deep dish craving. We ordered a deep dish with Italian Sausage, Prosciutto, Pepperoni, and Mushrooms. It was really good, with a generous amount of sauce (which is how I like my pizza). The sauce was tasty and none of the meets were dried or undercooked. The pizza is a wait, but they let you know ahead of time so you aren't surprised at how long it takes. For starters, we had the New York Chopped Salad and the Garlic Twists. I really wasn't craving the salad, but it was pleasantly surprising. I couldn't stop eating it. The Garlic Twists were ok, but I could probably do without them the next time. I was hoping for something a little more soft and fluffy but it came out just a tad burnt. I'm definitely coming back here again and am already planning to get the Italian Delight pizza the next time. read more

Complete disappointment!! This place had great reviews, I'm here on business and I am cooped up alone in my hotel working. So despite the fact that they charge top dollar for what you get ($23.00 for 9" deep dish), I decided to give it a try. I ordered the union deep dish and garlic knots, which totalled $40 for just me. To start, both were grossly overcooked. The deep dish was more like pizza in a breadbowl and since it was overcooked, the crust was inedible. The garlic knots didn't look even remotely appetizing and were large and so hard that biting them was so awkward that I ended up cutting them open instead. Totally not worth the $40 I spent. I got to try this spot today and it was pretty good. We got the thin crust cheese pizza. I think it was a little pricey for what you get. It's 12 inches with 6 slices for a little over 15 dollars. I can get a large at Gigi's that's twice the size for the same price. The saving grace was the cheese that they use. It's very very tasty and tastes fresh. We also ordered the garlic knots and garlic lovers, rejoice!! They serve these knots with fresh sautéed garlic and maaaaaan these are good for a garlic lover like me. The traffic on rosecrans during after work hours sucks so I'll stick to going either early or late, but if I don't go back for the pizza I will definitely go back for the knots. read more

Had a group of 7 for lunch and ordered some appetizer to hold us over for the 30 minutes our deep dish pizza took to make. Garlic Knots - Way too much Garlic and very salty, one was more than enough for me. Chicken Wings - Average Nothing special, but no problems either Finally the deep dish Pizza came and boy were we underwhelmed, we ordered The Village (Pepperoni, Sausage, Ham and Mushrooms) the sauce was bland and there was a noticeable lack of meat. The Costco cook it yourself deep-dish is better. One member of our group ordered a calzone and it was not fully cooked, still cold inside. Spaghetti and meatballs was ok, as was the meatball sandwich. So when all is said and done, the food was passable, but not worth a return visit. read more

The NY style pizza is very good but the Chicago is not good at all. Place is very expensive especially for the Chicago Pizza. Two times in a row our order has been incorrect. My fault for not checking it before we left the store... lesson learned. Ordered the veggie chopped salad and got a salad with salami. Ordered the breadsticks and when we got there to pick the order up we were told they were out of them. Two things... it's a pizza place don't you make the breadsticks out of your dough?? I found this place on my Eat24 app so I've never actually been to the restaurant First time I ordered..things went to hell in a hurry. I ordered, waited an hour, contacted Eat24 who in turn contacts the restaurant. Some chick tells him that the order didn't go through due to some printing/printer error? and that the meal would be on its way FREE within 30 some minutes. I wait another 45... this time I called the restaurant myself. NO one answered. Great. I hit up Eat24 again and the rep is so nice, they gave me $20 credit even though none of it was their fault. Getting wind of this, the owner called the manager to call me... I am offered a meal, on the house. So a few days later I try.. Flame Veggie - Not bad.. I like the kick but there was WAYYY too much garlic on it. (and I love garlic) Garlic knots - ehhhh I really expected more garlic flavor. It was just really underwhelming This time I tried... Union House Salad - I actually liked this..the sundried tomatoes and goat cheese go well but the greens seemed really dried out and on the verge of wilting. Sticks - damn they're really like twigs.. More of a cracker than bread stick... If they just cut it a bit thicker and had them be chewy with great seasoning, it could bring this up from a bleh appetizer to one I'd order again Farm pizza - or whatever its called... This is not true Chicago style pizza. I am from the chicagoland area and the distinct hallmark of a true, quality, Chicago style deep dish pizza is the crust. The crust should be thick and flavorful with a buttery depth. There's barely any crust in their deep dish. It's like they use the same crust for the thin crust and deep dish but pile on more toppings to make it a "deep dish" pizza. My quest continues for a decent Chicago style pizza. read more

I started out with 4 stars for this place but changed it to five following the morning after pizza test. Let's start with the negatives that gave them 4 stars in the fist place: * I couldn't see the back, but it felt like only 2 people were running the place. The dude running the front did a good job, but had a hard time keeping up to all the traffic (not many could). * There were 4 of us and we told them that we were dining in. They brought us our me pizzas, but no plates or cutlery. We had to request these. * The Chicago pizza crust was burned to a crisp (charcoal). Now the positives far outweight the negatives here and the negatives are things that I'm sure don't happen all the time and are very easily fixed. We ordered a boat load of food (over $100) as we wanted to have a sampling from the entire menu. * The service was friendly and even though it was busy, they didn't get frustrated with our large order or the fact that my son asked them for about 10 refills on his soda. * I will break down the food, but where this place won me over was with their sauce. It was just perfect. I've been to way too many pizza places that lose you on their tin can flavored sauce or sauce that is too acidic. Union's sauce was just a perfect balance of flavor, tomatoes and spices. This is the stuff that makes you eat the two extra slices that you later complain about as you're walking to the car. * Garlic Knots - not usually my thing as it's typically just pizza dough with butter and garlic. These were not typical thanks partly again to the sauce and also to the shovel fulls of garlic that came with them. They were crispy on the outside and chewy in the middle, with just the right amount of burn on the crust. *Chicken Wings - typically chicken wings are something that I believe Pizza places use to increase their margins. They usually serve skinny pieces with store purchased Franks along with some wilted celery and carrot. I was very impressed with the quality of the wings here. They were plump, juicy and coated thick with the perfect amount of tangy buffalo sauce. They also gave ample sides of fresh celery and carrots (with your choice of Blue Cheese or Ranch). Very close to some of the better wings our of Buffalo (almost Anchor Bar worthy) * NY thin crust Pizza - This is what the teens ordered and they had no complaints...but they don't know anything - they just suck back what's in front of them. One of them thinks Golden Corral is a great restaurant - just so you know what we're dealing with. I on the other hand have dined on what could be argued to be the best pizzas in Italy, New York, Chicago and just about anywhere else in the world that serves this thing of beauty. For Southern California, this was great pizza. It was very close to some of the best in New York and I would bet that ALL of their ingredients come from New York. I didn't see the oven. I would guess that it was not a brick oven as the burn was there on the crust, but not exactly the same on the bottom of the pizza. * Chicago Deep dish - It was tasty. I did mention above that the crust was burned, but it was also still good enough not to complain or return. This pizza takes at least 30 minutes to cook, so make sure you have time. The recipe was pretty damn good. I'm a Giordano's fan, but this was not a stuffed deep dish so it's hard to compare. You have to think more like a Lou Malnati's if you know Chicago Pizza (more of a pie, deep with toppings), but lacking the butter crisp crust. The sauce once again saved the day. It was delicious, but I think they came closer to the goal on the New York side of things. * Meatball Sandwich and side Caesar. The Caesar was great on a plate where salad is typically an afterthought. Once again the romaine was "really" fresh. The meatball sandwhich (I didn't try), was once again very tasty because of the sauce and the meatballs were very authentic and not "fake tasting". The only complaint was that they could have toasted the bun a little more to keep things less soggy. They would definitely order again. * Morning after - as you can imagine, there were a ton of leftovers and they were almost better cold (and heated) the next morning. I love pizza with staying power and almost cry when it can't deliver on the 2nd day (leftovers). This is what forced me to change my mind and drag the mouse over the 5th star. I don't get to this area often, but I will definitely keep this place in mind when things bring me back this way. read more
