Came here for two washes. Both $30 it was a quick deal. Owner said I didn't tip but you see my bank statement says $37.00 not $30 [Tipped 7!] I told him I would come back every week on Friday. Third time I came back and he said he couldnt do it today. Forth time I sent him a message on Instagram by his request. Didnt respond to me for one week. Drove over there two more times the week after and he was never there. I finally saw him and asked him for a wash and he told me the company had family problems and was unable to wash today but later on that day he was washing cars while I was stuck at the red light. WOW! I came to Universal Service Station on a recommendation after I felt the place I had been going to was giving me a raw deal. My car had a light come on and the place I brought it to gave me the only option of buying a new engine, from them, for several thousand dollars. I brought it in to Jesse, who was very helpful, was great at communicating my options and answering all my questions. He gave me odds on what certain procedures were likely to do and how much they would cost. He even gave me great advice on what to do after giving the car back to me. He literally saved me thousands of dollars. In addition, the shop is open late so if you work normal office hours, it's not a big deal to drop off or pick up the car after work hours. They say that your initial impression that you make of someone within the first twenty seconds of meeting them is usually a fairly accurate judgment. If they're (aka my college psych professor) in fact right, then I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Universal. My little adorable Mini Cooper has been nothing but problematic as of late. Like a poorly trained Pomeranian pup, she's been an absolute terror, but far too adorable for me to even consider getting rid of. With that being said, however, I have a pebble-sized heart comparable to that of the Grinch's and have been toying with that very idea. I told Jesse (the boss man at Universal) all of this, and let me just say that if someone could radiate genuineness, Jesse would. He was very straightforward with his advice, careful to not sway me in any which way. He pulled up his iPad and hopped onto Kelly Blue Book and gave me the price I should be looking to get for my baby. He also gave me several options to make maintenance a bit more manageable (economically) should I decide to keep her (third party warranties). He even gave me his number and email address just in case I found a possible third party and wanted to seek his expertise in judgment. He's restoring my faith in humanity here. I've been dealing with automotive repair shops and the dealership for the past few weeks and their estimates have been up the wazoo! The prices here are not only beyond fair ($79.95 for an oil change on a Mini Cooper when the dealership gave an estimate of a minimum of $150), but I'd even argue that they're low considering the service that you actually receive. Jesse actually cares about you and your coche--regardless of how much of a terror they choose to be. He's honest, reliable, and fair which unfortunately seems to be difficult to find in service stations nowadays. So, when you do find one that gives you a beyond great first impression in those initial twenty seconds (hint hint cough cough--this place should be your new jam), it's important to never never ever let go. The low tire pressure alarm went off, so I needed to put some air into my tires. I drove up to the air pump at the Valero/Universal Service Station, walked up to the cashier to get some quarters. A friendly guy at the cashier gave me a clicker for the air so that I could pump the air away without paying for it. WHAAAATTT???!! I know it is not much money to put some air into 4 tires (a couple bucks at max), but I was quite appreciative of his gesture. I just felt happy, and hope for humanity has been restored! Jesse and Russell are the best mechanics I have ever met. They are honest and trustworthy, which is almost impossible to find in this big city. They have helped my boyfriend and I with our super old Ford Escort, which we are hanging onto for another month or so then buying a new car. Also when our brand new 2013 Honda had a flat tire and I was late for work, they didn't hesitate to fill it up so I could get to the Honda dealership in Hollywood. I'm not going to tell him how to run his business, but if you nickel and dime customers and if you realize that every gas station nearby (76 on San Fernando, Mobil on glenoaks, etc) offers water and air upon request, you mAy lose business... Especially those who stopped by for gas in the morning, forgot to get air, and needed air in the afternoon. Also, my griping was also due in large part to the rude female cashier at the time. I wish I had access to a 6th star. You know when you move somewhere new and you ask your friends if they know a good mechanic, it's always kind of jokingly? As if no one really knows a GOOD mechanic. Well I know one, no catches. No, "well, he's kind of expensive but...", "He's not very nice, but...", "he's hard to get a hold of, but..." or "he's kind of shady, but...". Jessie (the Manager) is the real deal. I went in because of the excellent yelp reviews and I wasn't let down. I had a budget and he did EVERYTHING to help me with it. Despite the fact that I had been a bit moronic (kept forgetting what parts needed fixing) he never spoke down to me. For once, a mechanic that doesn't expect me to be one too, or disrespect me because I'm not (and let's be honest, because I'm female). I've had a 2002 Ford Focus for the past 7 years and it wasn't in great shape when I got it. Because of my life situations it hasn't had all the love it deserved. I had been debating whether it would be worth it to put in a solid chuck of money on it, or if it would be better to save a while and get another used car. Universal has revived her and I can't be more grateful. He and his team were very accommodating and efficient with the work. I had taken it in a couple of times the week before Christmas to New Years day and they made sure I wasn't going to be left in the lurch because of the holiday. I even feel guilty. The first time the work was done, I was unsure of the effect it had, so he had me bring it back in and didn't rob me for it. Jesse and Jesse are two stand up dudes after being over charged and scammed by 3 different auto shops (Firestone, pep boys, and even jiffy lube) I found a place with good cost and reliable service. The mechanic gladly lays out what caused problems how it is gonna run better now and other recommended fixes without the pressure of FIX IT NOW OR DIE!!!
