I don't know what the negative reviews are all about. My coworker has been coming here for a while And she kept raving about how good their food was. And let me just say that I was very surprised! I got the grilled ahi with da bomb sauce and let me tell you! It is DA BOMB!! The fish was so good! Moist and perfectly cook. I'm normally very particular about my fish but the fish was very good with tons of garlic cloves on top with some side of da bomb sauce! I'd definitely get this again. My friend who was very picky enjoyed her garlic shrimps. According to her the garlic sauce was very garlicky which was very good! Where exactly is the Upscale part?! NO Ambiance, but all the local "culture" you could ever want to see. Lots of loud swearing from patrons "hanging out" in the parking lot. Only limited outside seating uncomfortably too close to the loud obnoxious parking lot patrons. Food is unremarkable. The Adobo Fried Rice....I don't think I could make something that taste-less if i tried! A little bit of pork adobo unevenly tossed with old dry rice. I guess the seasoning was on strike! Not even salt & pepper! Mochiko Chicken was only okay. The counter lady handled the late night crowd with grace. I would never go again or recommend this place! I am so disappointed in the food quality, unsure what happened?! I ordered my usual Mochiko Chicken and it was HORRIBLE not edible at all! First the chicken was burnt on the outside, but thought to just give it a try making excuses as maybe it is the sugar that caused the burnt look. The Mochiko Chicken was beyond horrible the chicken literally tasted like it was soaked in vinegar! I went to cashier and told her this is not Mochiko Chiken it must be maybe Chicken Adobo cause it is so sour. They made me a new plate and I go sit down and consume my meal and same thing the chicken was still sour! My daughter even tried some and stated "oh this is sour is it supposed to taste like this?" I go back again and tell the cashier I need to replace this with something else, something is wrong as I often order this plate. I even told the gentleman (local guy) behind the counter who came out to please taste it for himself it is very sour! Well he did and stated "its sweet on the outside and sour on the inside." He was kind enough and allowed me order something else from the upscale menu side. The cook also comes out and tells me "the outside looks the same, but I don't know the chicken." Yes this is not the Mochiko Chicken and I always order this, but something is wrong as it tastes like it was soaked in vinegar! I would have not written this review if this issue did not go on at home giving them the benefit of the doubt thinking maybe the cook accidentally coated Chicken Adobo with Mochiko Chicken batter as I did once like their Mochiko Chicken... Well I went home it was terrible and frustrating as I had a bad stomach ache along with constant trips to the restroom. My daughter also had to make several trips to the restroom. My husband insisted the chicken was spoiled if it was sour and especially with our frequent trips to the restroom. They have two menus; their original menu and Upscale. Their original menu has a lot of options, and they always have daily specials. The pricing is really affordable, and they give a good amount of food. The Upscale menu is great. Still affordable and they give a lot. The downside is that the menu is available only at a certain time. The last time I asked it was at 11 am until they run out. read more

I order from here atleast twice a week if not more and everytime i come he's very unpleasant. I'll be honest with this review I ordered adobo fried rice and the food disgusted me so much I only toke a few bites and threw it away, there was so much more pepper corn and oil than the actual adobo on that plate and it made me realize that the cooks don't care and the customer service isn't there, they basically showed that they just want to get there shift over with, I rather go mikis in Pearl city, where the real Filipino aunties know how to cook, and really care what they actually put out for the customers, because At least there food is mostly fresh and more desirable. read more

I must say, after all these years, this diner, although, owned by a new owner (I think), has really stood the test of times. The food is still good, they are not short of menu items, although it can be overwhelming as there is so much to choose from. Not only to they have the menu, but they've added pictures on top of pictures of their menu items, that if you don't know what you're hungry for, you will find yourself spending a lot of your time, deciding on what you want. I like the food here, its a hit and miss for some of the food items I've had, but they are good! Its sad to see more cronic's in the area just hanging around, which makes it uncomfortable for those who may not be use to the neighborhood. This morning while ordering my breakfast, a woman was standing right next to the window, couple feet from me, smoking her cigarette while asking for handouts, while another customer standing on the outskirts of the restaurant smoking as well. Went there to pick up lunch and first of all we tried to call in the order but they seem to just ignore the phone (not the first time) then they got my order wrong. I order a combo short rib and mochico chicken and got BBQ chicken instead. When I opened my plate the chicken was raw (are they trying to make people sick?) so my co-worker took the plate back to get a new one and they refused to make another plate. They wanted to recook the raw chicken that was on my plate. Well I worked in food service years ago and that is a big no no. Blood from the raw chicken could have gotten in the rest of the food considering that the chicken was laying completely over the mac salad and partially on the rice. REALLY??? If I could give them 0 stars I would, they refunded the money for the plate but absolutely POOR customer service. If you eat there check your food before you leave to make sure it is cooked well. And another thing, 2 weeks prior my IT guy was doing work for me and I suggested Diners, big mistake because he informed me the following day that he got sick after eating there. read more

I've stayed away from Diner's for many years because at one time it went downhill but recently started to dine here again. They already had a big menu but added on Upscale's menu and sushi. The diner is still 24 hours but Upscale's menu is only available from 11 am to 11 pm and I don't think they serve sushi all day. Service is always friendly and so far food is good. My husband likes their fish sandwiches and can eat that every single time we're there. He recently tried the garlic Ahi (or salmon) and enjoyed it. I like their Shoyu Short Ribs and bentos. The Teri Beef sandwich is delicious but is a hit and miss with the amount of meat. Sometimes it has a generous amount of beef and sometimes not so much. I raved to my daughter on how generous and juicy the Teri Beef sandwich was and brought her to get one for lunch and it wasn't the same in size; still tasty though. New owners, same location. We usually order the wing ding plate w/ rice and mac salad. Chicken still tastes the same, but the mac salad was sort of bland. I prefer L&L, zippys, or even yummys. We ordered the garlic rib eye steak. Smoky and charcoal flavor- w/c is what makes the steak taste really good. Steak is topped with garlic pieces and herbed butter and comes with mixed greens and rice. We also got the mixed plate of kalbi and bbq chicken. Kabi was average and bbq chicken needed more flavor. Other than the food being average, this place is nostalgic for us whenever we're in Kalihi. read more

Disappointed, counter guy presents no customer service abilities and only serves attitude. We have been longterm customers since its beginning and was even a taste test customer. Our loyalty returned back even after a bout with food poisoning from their ono meatloaf. Lack of proper storage and preparation. But we returned! Xmas eve special dinner of their Steak and lobster turned into a Nightmare on King St. Ordered and paid for mashed potato, but was disappointed with rice, receipt clearly indicates the extra substitute. Med.Well was Well/well, in other words dry and burnt, lobster was about to 30% shrunk from the shell. I overlooked it, but called about the wrong order of receiving rice instead of my PAID EXTRA mash potato. The counter Miss answered and graciously apologized and offered to replace the entire meal. The next day was Xmas and i made it back on the 26th only to be given the phone excuses by the owners, so called brother in law, and later personally returned to the counter and was accused of eating the steak and lobster... so their policy is to not Refund or replace anything. Then, he turned his back and ignored me as I went back to my handicap parked vehicle. Daily outings are difficult and to be treated that way during the Holidays and with my post Birthday dinner.... finally was the last straw that clung onto my loyalty. Ate here for the first time since they took over the old Diners which was unfortunately disappointing. I ordered the fried ahi katsu with the "Bomb" sauce. It looked like a hotdog wrapped in nori and deep fried. I couldn't even taste the fish. The "bomb" sauce was pretty yummy drizzled all over my furikake rice. The plate came with rice and green salad. I arrived at 10:50AM this morning to place an order from their "special" menu and the lady stated that we'd have to wait for this specific to start at 11AM, but the food won't be ready until 11:24AM. I thought the least she could do is take our order so it could be made when this specific chef/cook comes in. So I'm waiting with my coworkers and it's almost 11:15AM when this guy comes in and enters heir backdoor so I'm assuming that's the chef/cook lol. Anyways, my food ended up coming out at 11:34AM and the plate lunch overall was borderline mediocre to crappy. It was hard to bite into because it was over fried also. There a good amount of parking, but they do share it with other businesses. The cashier was nice and did her job. It appeared that before this chef/cook guy came in, it really was just her and another lady who was cooking. I overheard other customer approaching the cashier and stated that it's been over 20mins and he still hasn't got his burger...lol So overall, if you didn't like the old Diners, I think, based on todays experience, you'll probably won't like this place either. read more

I don't care what time of day I came, I expect my food be cook properly and not serve me spoiled food. Cooks need to be retrained, I'm in the food service industry and back of the house. I went there on 11/3/2022 and I ordered the shoyu sparerib and it was so horrible that I couldn't get past one bite of the meat. It tasted old and "gamey". What happened to this place? The quality definitely went down. I had the hamburger steak awhile back and it was terrible. There was no flavor.
