I ordered the house special chicken and crab ragoons. The service was super quick and I happily accepted my delivery. When I got back to my room and opened the boxes I realized there was no rice. I referred back to the menu photo and decided to call the restaurant. They confirmed that there was no rice included. While the crab ragoons are very good, the chicken dish is loaded with veggies and chicken and has a good flavor and is juicy but it is not want I was expecting or had planned on ordering. 10/10 for Mongolian beef and fried rice. I am always on the hunt for the best Mongolian beef in the greater Seattle area and this place is definitely in my top 5 list. Mongolian beef - amazing flavor and comes with a generous amounts of green onion and chili peppers (not spicy though). I am also a huge fan of the fried vermicelli noodles or white onions as well although this dish did not include those and it's not a deal breaker. The only gripe I had was that the serving for the take out seemed to be smaller than that of dine-in but I would have to dine in to confirm that. The vermicelli noodles might also take away from more beef so I am okay without it in this instance. House Fried Rice - again great flavor and not very greasy at all! I'm always skeptical of ordering house fried rice specifically for the shrimp because I tend to like my shrimp a little more cooked through but this was still delicious. Great portion size and paired with the Mongolian beef I made sure I ate all of the Mongolian beef and got stuffed with about half the fried rice left. Gave the rest to a friend who also loved it and finished it off! I would order from here again if in the area. One of the better Chinese restaurants in the area from what I'm seeing. read more

The evening we went to Uptown China I enjoyed talking with the owner so much that I can't say anything negative because I wouldn't want to blemish that lovely experience. I lived in both Taiwan, where she is from, and in Beijing during the entirety of the 1980s and have had many memorable meals and learned a lot about Chinese cuisine from all my Chinese friends I knew while there. One very thing I recall distinctly was eating something back then that I really liked but my Chinese friends were critical of it. I couldn't understand why. It turns out that most Chinese dishes have a standard flavor or taste that they need to meet. A very Confucian concept! If the food doesn't taste exactly like what the standard demands, it isn't good, even if you like the taste. At the time I thought how silly! Over time I have become more and more like them! In short I liked everything we ordered that evening at Uptown China, Especially the salt and pepper chicken wings. However I wouldn't say that the food rose to the level of meeting any certain precise standard. Some of my Chinese acquaintances might not love the food because of this. However if you only care about having a lovely meal and aren't hung up on what I just described, then by all means go there for dinner. You will be very happy. Everything tasted great! Tasty, inauthentic Chinese food with a special plant-based (vegan) menu. Coming from Vancouver, it takes a lot to impress us for Chinese food. This place was far from authentic in appearance, but they had a special plant-based / vegan menu, so we did some take-out from here one night. I ordered 3 dishes online, and the e-mail confirmation told me it'd be ready 10 minutes later -- it was more like 20 minutes, but no big deal. We ordered the Kung Pao Mock Duck ($18 plus tax), Broccoli with Tangy Garlic Sauce ($14 plus tax), and Singapore Rice Noodles Tofu ($16). All the dishes were tasty. The kung pao -- which we requested "extra spicy" -- was a little too sweet for our tastes, and only lightly spicy. The "duck" had a nice texture, and the dish came with a sweet & spicy sauce, peanuts, green onions, and chili peppers. The broccoli dish was lightly spicy and garlicy, with perfectly cooked broccoli, and not too gloopy a sauce -- this was well-done. The Singapore noodles weren't authentic at all but tasty enough -- lots of vegetables & tofu, more so than usual for this dish -- with a powdery curry coating on everything. Overall, nothing incredible here, but I appreciate their large plant-based offering. A little pricy -- $18 for the kung pao?? -- but solid overall. I wouldn't seek it out as a top-notch Chinese place, but if you're in the area, it's a solid spot. read more

It's a shame so many people have left bad reviews because of delivery times. I've eaten here many many times for dinner or lunch take out. The food is large portions, excellent top quality food- gorgeous in dining presentations and outstanding flavor profiles. They put a lot into their dishes and it shows. I would give Uptown 100 stars and list it as the best Chinese restaurant in the entire city. Favorites: the honey walnut prawns are outrageous- huge platter. A friend bought me hear as she has fond childhood memories of this place. The owner is an absolute darling - she has outstanding customer service skills which is a treat here in Seattle. I found the food to be okay. It's wasn't the best, it's not the worst...it falls somewhere in between. I tried an appetizer, sizzling rice (meh) and a chicken dish. Not exaggerating when I say this is some of the BEST Asian food I've EVER experienced. It was so wonderfully flavorful, clean, and fresh - without the usual oily/greasiness. The hot & sour soup was good; the Egg Flower soup was PERFECT. The egg was perfectly delicate and silky smooth, and the broth had a subtle sweet richness to it I've never had before or since. I ordered the House Special chicken which came out like an elevated Moo Goo Gai Pain and was PHENOMENAL. My partner got the Crispy Noodles with Chicken, Beef, and Shrimp - I couldn't stop stealing bites! The sauce was perfection, and the beef especially was absolute perfection as well. Tender and smooth and DELICIOUS. I'd give this place 10 stars if I could. We couldn't wait to heat up our leftovers later. By that time, the Crispy Noodles had soaked up all the sauce and steamed a bit so were basically lo mein noodles and made for an equally enjoyable yet unique second experience of the same dish! The restaurant interior was clean and bright, and the service was great. On top of all that - for two drinks, three soups, and two entrees, our total was only $52!!!! The sauce that the ravioli is in, is going to be something I always remember fondly. Like, The Sauce Is Everything!!! And you'll thank me later because Everything tastes good with it. We also had the house fried rice, wonton soup, and the mushu pork with 'pancake' wrapper. Similar to a tortilla. Yum yum!! Plus the staff here is friendly and sweet. I have zero complaints. Service was good but it wasn't that busy when we dined there. I'd say their appetizers are pretty good. I liked the chewy thicker skin for the potstickers. I also liked the salt and pepper chicken wings since they serve them lollipop-style (the less meaty end of the drumsticks were trimmed back to reveal the bone which made it easier to eat). The egg flower soup was good - reminded me of what my parents used to make at home when I was a kid. The seafood chow funn was fine but didn't have much variety of seafood. Our order had 4-5 shrimps and one piece of scallop. I liked the garlic eggplant and sauteed string beans. All in all, a decent spot for Americanized Chinese food. read more

TL;DR: Food is average; service is below-average; friendliness is above-average; separate vegan menu. No non-alcoholic beer options. We've come here twice before seeing a movie at SIFF. I really want to like this place more. We've met the owner, and she is really friendly, as are the staff. But there are two issues. First, service. The first time we went they were slammed, and therefore it was understandable that service was slow. The second time they were empty though. It just took too long for menus to be given to us, and then for them to come back to take our order. Second, food. Think of your garden-variety strip-mall run-of-mill Chinese food, and that's what this is. The dishes aren't bad mind you, they are just average. Over the two times we've come here, we've had the vegan pot stickers and spring rolls, the ma po tofu, the sesame tofu, and the Mongolian tofu. I'd stay away from the pot stickers , which have little flavor and are oily, as well as the spring rolls, which are a bit more flavorful but also very oily. The sesame tofu and the Mongolian tofu aren't bad. Reasonable flavor, but nothing to write home about. The sesame tofu included cubes of pan-fried tofu simmered in the seasoning sauce, and the Mongolian tofu had rectangular chunks of pressed tofu simmered in the Mongolian sauce. The ma po tofu was made with silken tofu -- i.e., soft and crumbly -- and didn't work well as a dish. I would've preferred tofu cubes or rectangular chunks. I am pleased that they have a separate plant-based vegan menu (you do have to ask for it). I wish they expanded their drink menu. Both times we ended up having water. No mocktails or non-alcoholic beer available. The reason why we came here is that it's super close to both SIFF locations nearby (Uptown and Film Center). So as a pre-movie option, it's really convenient. For that reason, we'll probably be back, but this is not somewhere I'd go as a seek-out destination. I hate to give a bad review to a restaurant during the Coronavirus, but the food and service were particularly awful. This order was on Christmas Eve--which is probably not the best night to order takeout, but that does not excuse what happened. I ordered food at 5:45 and was told pickup would be in 90 minutes. I was there at 7:15, but did not get my food until 8:40. It was an absolute madhouse with around 25 people waiting for their food and no guidance on when food would be ready. They clearly accepted way too many orders and were just overwhelmed. I felt bad for the person who was working the counter, but it was horrible customer service. When I finally received my food, I ran out of there, but should have checked. They forget about half the items pot stickers, house fried rice, moo shu pork, steamed rice, and Mandarin Beef. I am sure they were rushed, but this was inexcusable. Then the food was not good and big shortcuts were taken. We order Shrimp Lo Mein--but had only one shrimp and the taste was very bland, not seasoned well. They advertised BBS Pork ribs, but the ribs they gave us were clearly beef ribs and not cooked long enough. The sesame beef was good, but was cold compared to other food and needed to be reheated. The only good item was the garlic eggplant--which was seasoned very well. Again, I imagine this was a bad night for them, but this was just a horrible meal and experience all the way around. read more

Best Chinese Ive had In Seattle so far! The owner and the service is very friendly. There is a ton of seating inside and there is a cute bar area on the other side of the restaurant. I have been here 3x so far, twice for dine in and once for takeout. I will say the dine in has been better as the food is hot, fresh and flavorful. Favorite dish is the beef lo mein, beef fried rice and beef noodle soup (currently not on the menu). Side note : Rice does not come with the entrees and should be ordered separately. We tried : Spicy Dragon Mushrooms which lacked flavor or spices and some of them were not well cooked. Vegetable Fried Rice which again did not go with our taste of liking Uptown margarita which seemed very similar to Costco Kirkland margarita with ice.
