I love the decor and ambiance. It was like being in someone's living room. Cozy and inviting. The baristas were nice and efficient. I ordered a London fog with almond milk. Not exceptional but it did the trick.

Loved Uptowner Cafe! Great location in Old Town, and lots of great sandwich options! I got the Saint Asaph sandwich, and it was delicious. I also got the chai latte, and I think it may be the best chai I've ever had! Service was quick- food was out within a couple minutes. A great spot for a quick, easy lunch!

3.8 stars. Quick in and out service. Gets the job done for breakfast.. Steady slow stream of customers early in the morning. Extensive menu.. Average service but works hard. 1. Vanilla latte - Starbucks quality! Not too sweet. Good vanilla flavor although syrup. 2. Sausage eggs cheese - slightly above average because it came warm with melted cheese! Otherwise, name taste as other SEC that I have had. Overall, good spot for getting some quick breakfast!

It just happened to be close to my hotel but ended up being delicious! I was able to get water a GREAT hazelnut latte with almond milk. AND a hot breakfast sandwich. The sandwich was egg and cheese on an everything bagel and was toasted to perfection I loved it! Highly recommend if you are staying at the Hyatt Centric in old town Alexandria :)

Bran muffin - moist and slightly sweet, but didn't know they would serve it on styrofoam :(

Decent egg and such sandwiches and pastries if you need something in a hurry. The inside decor is eclectic, as others have shared, but it is a cozy space. There are a few two-person tables and fewer four-person tables, so not a great place to assume you can get a group of people at the same table. Still, looked like those at the larger tables were camping out under work, so it might be a good place to stay for a while if you can nab the coveted horizontal space. The French roast wasn't the best coffee I've ever had, but it was hot, they didn't get weird about filling my travel mug, and it was good enough not to need milk and sugar. The bran muffin I ordered was slightly sweet like honey, and moist. Not a bad muffin! However and sadly, they didn't even give me a choice, but handed the muffin over on a styrofoam plate. Styrofoam! I'm always surprised and disappointed when I find out an establishment is still using styrofoam.

Great homemade sandwiches and delicious coffee! Charming and welcoming environment to enjoy your food/coffee in with reasonable pricing. You can expect a delicious sandwich & coffee for fraction of other (and not as tasty) places in the area. This is a great local (family owned) business to support! Highly recommend

Cute, homey, very local corner coffee shop. For those nearby, it's easy to access on your way to the metro or waterfront - although the food is far from gourmet, it's satisfying and quickly delivered. (And much better than what you'll find at McDonald's!!) The coffee shop isn't worth going far out of your way when compared to the amazing dining close to the waterfront, but it's definitely worth stopping by to support a local business while you're passing by. Every time I go, I get the bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich on a bagel. Reasonably priced and yummy!

Convenient little coffee and sandwich nook across the street from the Kimpton Lorien hotel. Go here if you want a quick and easy bite for breakfast, while avoiding paying a lot more to eat a big meal at the hotel restaurant. A few tables and chairs. Some seats along the window. Bright and clean. Coffee drinks, pastries, cold drinks in fridge, bagels, egg sammich, etc Good for a breakfast sandwich to start the day with. Tasty coffee too. As I said - quick, easy, and not too pricey.

Cute little corner cafe. Reasonably priced and my toasted bacon egg and cheese bagel was as expected. The drip coffee is also good. Easy and quick.

One of the small pleasures in life is happening upon a little cafe where you can get an excellent cup of French Roast coffee, a bagel with a smear & sit outside watching the world go by. Such a place can be found @ the corner of King St & Harvard. A terrific selection of breakfast options as well as hot & cold sandwiches. Several outside tables in the shade where the you can enjoy the fresh air & sunshine.

This spot is fairly priced and has great breakfast sandwiches. I also appreciate that they will make a "coffee bubble tea" by adding boba to the cafe frappe, which is also very good on its own. Definitely appreciate having Uptowner as a regular spot!

By 10:30 am though, there were many more customers and all tables were taken. So come here by 10 am if you want to nab a table. The drinks I had here so far are: - Bluebell espresso soda - brisk, fruity, and refreshing. It has an intriguing complex blend of flavors (jasmine, blamango, coconut). Really unique! - Rose cardy latte (iced with little ice, oat milk) - delightfully sweet and refreshing. It was not too sweet and has light floral tones. Service was very friendly and quick. Reviews that mention how cool the phone booths are failed to mention they are for Link customers only (good thing I didn't have a call where I needed privacy). I opted used my phone's hotspot and internet wasn't that great unfortunately so I couldn't stay long. There is patio seating. Plenty of free street parking since it's not on a main Street in Old Town. I appreciated that it wasn't freezing in the building, quite temperate actually. There was guitar music playing, think Rodrigo y Gabriela. I ordered a Jasmine iced tea. Nothing against the establishment, but I discovered that Jasmine isn't a drink flavor that I particularly like.

The biggest advantage here is the amount of space. There is plenty of seating outside, throughout the main floor, upstairs, and even on the upstairs deck, making it very easy to find a comfortable place to settle in with a drink and stay awhile. The coffee was just as good as expected, and the coffee cake was excellent. The staff was also nice and efficient, keeping everything moving without making the experience feel rushed. The only thing that kept this visit from matching the King Street location was that the space felt a little neglected in comparison. The upstairs bar area, in particular, seemed deserted during our visit, and seeing what appeared to be an expired liquor license posted on the wall gave the impression that the space was once used in a greater capacity, but that's purely just speculation. Overall, it is still a lovely coffee shop with great drinks, plenty of room to spread out, and a relaxed atmosphere. I would happily return, especially when I am looking for a quieter place to enjoy my coffee.

Studying or need to get work done AND neurodivergent? This is the place!…read more There are a few St Elmo's in Alexandria/Arlington, but this location is by far my favorite. The service is always top notch, the food and drinks are consistently great, and the environment is so conducive to just about anything. I've met up with friends for coffee here, come just for a peaceful moment for myself, and it is my go-to for studying and working on the doctoral manuscript. There are outlets thoughtfully placed literally everywhere for charging computers, tablets, phones, etc. My favorite thing about St Elmo's is probably the amount and variety of seating they offer- they have bar seating with comfortable backed barstools, another long high top table (great for small group meetings or projects), traditional tables and chairs scattered throughout, booths, etc. The playlists they use are great, but music is also not too loud (can use my own headphones without having to blast the volume). There are fairy lights strung and the lighting is great. At the front, they have big windows that completely open to allow fresh air in on days the weather is nice. Parking isn't an issue- if you can't find anything on the street, there is a free garage with EV charging. I live less than a mile from the Del Ray St Elmo's (which is also great!), but the layout of this location and how it is set up for those looking to be productive outside of their home is fantastic.

Delicate Hot Chocolate…read more I have long been an admirer of fine hot chocolate. Traditionally, I would visit Starbucks or a contemporary coffeehouse, only to receive what often felt like mocha syrup blended with steamed milk--pleasant, perhaps, but rarely memorable. This morning marked my first visit to Tatte Bakery & Café in Old Town Alexandria where the hot chocolate proved to be an unexpected delight. The associate explained that it was prepared with semisweet chocolate and warm milk. Intrigued, I ordered a small and chose to enjoy it outdoors. The price was refreshingly reasonable, while the bakery's bright interior and refined ambiance created an inviting first impression. My drink arrived within approximately five minutes, presented elegantly in a cup and saucer. The temperature was perfectly warm--comforting without being excessively hot--and the overall presentation was quietly sophisticated but has room for improvement. Then came the taste.... The texture was exceptionally silky and smooth, with no grainy residue, excessive sweetness, or bitter aftertaste. It was rich without being heavy and indulgent without becoming overwhelming. Even better, it left behind no awkward crown of foam. I have enjoyed hot chocolate in Sicily, where the experience was quite literally a cup of melted chocolate--decadent, dense, and almost dessert-like. Tatte's interpretation was more delicate and restrained, yet equally satisfying in its own way. Tatte has now earned first place in my personal ranking. There is, however, still an opportunity to elevate the service experience. A cloth napkin and small spoon presented alongside the drink would add a more polished touch, while a subtle soupçon of finely shaved chocolate would enhance both the visual presentation and the final sip. Overall, I award Tatte's hot chocolate an A-. I look forward to seeing whether it can achieve an even higher distinction upon my next visit.

Let's face it. I like Tatte a latte!…read more Beautiful pastry case, inviting treats, Parisian-style cafe. It's a bit inconvenient that you pay at the counter but pick up hot drinks at the bar.
