Chopped Turkey Salad
Hamlet O.

Ordered the chopped turkey salad. Fresh and delightful salad. Service was good but the guy at the cashier wasn't so pleasant.

Seared Wild Ahi Tuna, Beef & Mushroom Braise, Kombucha, & Lemonade

Brought a friend here since this has been one of my favorite Pasadena go-to's, and I'm happy to say it still holds up as a favorite :) I ordered the Seared Wild Ahi Tuna with Macaroni & Cheese and Steamed Asparagus as sides, along with the raspberry & ginger kombucha. I loved how soft and juicy the Seared Wild Ahi Tuna was. This is officially my new go-to The Macaroni & Cheese was also super soft and just the right amount of cheesy, so I'm glad I chose that as a side. And the Steamed Asparagus was seasoned really well, so I'd definitely get it again. The staff was really nice and helpful, and our food came out within minutes Plus, the inside of the restaurant is very pretty lol.

Chimichurri chicken with 2 sides

On a Saturday 11am in Early May, my sister and I had lunch to try their special. We ordered at the cashier of chicken chimichurri with 2 sides -side salad Caesar and mash potatoes and gravy $10.95. There are plenty of tables to sit and it is self service of plates, water, utensils. The food came out fast. Everything was delicious and I got full. Nice ambiance inside. I forgot how good the food is and everything was freshly made.

I like coming here with family and friends for their first time. Waiting on my grass fed burger w fries

Had to stop in now that they have the seasonal BBQ ribs back on the menu. The meat is very soft and tasty. Highly recommend and of course can't go wrong with the cowgirl cookies. Jaryn was great in taking my order.

I visited Friday night and had the most relaxing experience. The food was perfect & the ambiance was peaceful. Stephanie is always the sweetest and has great customer service! I'll be back soon.

It's been forever since we've been here, was in the area and wanted a light lunch, this is perfect! Previously service was like a cafeteria (walk down counter and choose your meal and sides) now, you place your order at the counter and then food is delivered to your table. Customer service after placing order is just okay, no follow up if you need anything for your meal. Restaurant is located on Lake Boulevard in Pasadena, street parking is available but limited with payment required, free nearby parking lot available.

Moroccan chicken

Located on Lake Ave in Pasadena, Urban Plates sits amongst other popular restaurants for lunch. There is street parking but its only for 1 hour. There's also parking in the lots on the opposite side of the street, but those also fill up quick. Urban plates offers up a variety of foods that trend mostly to the healthy side. The prices are a little higher end for lunch, but the quality makes up for it. I ordered the Moroccan chicken with rice and was pleasantly surprised by the flavor. It has a nice spice flavor to it, not to be confused with spicy. The sauce has a slight sweetness that pairs really well with the rice. The bread offers a great way to scoop up the last of the sauce and as a nice change in texture. The service was incredible and everyone was really friendly. They have patio seating and its not too loud even in the middle of the day.

Mango tart

I was excited to try Urban Plates after looking at their menu and pictures. It's clearly super popular. When we arrived for lunch around 12:30 Wednesday there was a very long line that moved pretty slowly. Everything took a while to come out, but service was very nice and friendly. I got the chili glazed grilled tofu plate with sides of mushroom stuffing and beets & goat cheese. Everything looked good, so I was surprised how unremarkable it ended up tasting. Everything I got tasted fairly standard but somewhat plain. The tofu was kinda dry and the stuffing was on the mushy side. I also got a slice of mango tart. That was probably the most disappointing one for me. First, I was surprised how small the piece was (maybe 2.5" wide at the crust end) for $8.25. But worse, it tasted strangely sour and the mango was stringy. I don't know if it was an off day or what. But given the popularity and good reviews, I'm just really surprised overall by the food I received. I parked in the garage behind the restaurant. Validation was simple but it ended up costing $6 for a little over 2 hours.

Healthy-ish, tasty, and conveniently makes you feel like you made a responsible life choice. Portions could be a bit more generous, but hey--maybe that's the point. Parking? Bring patience. It's definitely "I want to eat clean but still enjoy life" spot. Fresh & flavorful food. Spacious & clean :) Friendly staff is absolutely a plus :)

Seared Wild Ahi Tuna

This is the place to go to if you want a quick fresh meal. I had the ahi tuna salad and it was delicious. Service was pretty quick and very friendly. It's more of like chipotle style but they bring you the food. I would stop by here again.

Menu

First time visiting, delicious food, friendly service, big, clean & spacious with plenty of indoor & outdoor seating. There's lots of choices on the menu: Burgers, sandwiches, wraps, plates, bowls, soups, desserts, kids meals & lots of gluten free options. The food is healthy & affordable with cage free chicken, grass fed steak, sustainable seafood & refillable drinks. I enjoyed the sea bass with broccoli, mash potatoes with gravy & gluten free bread. Tip: You can get the Urban plate pass for $5/month & get 20% off your order every time. It pays for itself in one visit!

What are the parking options?

They validate for parking in the garage behind the building. It's free for 90 minutes, and there are always plenty of free spaces.

Is it true that Creekstone Farms supplies your beef?

Would I need a reservation for my party of 8?

Is it pet friendly?

Yes. There are often dogs on the patio.

What are your Covid requirements for dining in? Just wear face mask unless eating?

Yes. At least that was the rule last week when we were there.

Can we reserve for 20 people?

Hi Anthony, unfortunately we are still in Covid mode, where the largest table is for a party of 6. And in addition we still are a first come first serve business and do not take reservations. Thanks for your question. Have a wonderful day.

Do they have happy hour?

No, not yet. They only have beers and wine right now. That might change though, because they have a petition sign on the window to sell hard alcohol.

It consisted of lettuce, avocado, corn, black beans, jicama, tomatoes, onion, quinoa, krispies, kale, cilantro, and cotija. The lettuce wasn't too fresh and there were some that were yellow green but not a big deal. It was packed with flavor even without the chipotle vinaigrette (relieved I got it on the side because I wasn't s big fan). The avocado was very fresh and plentiful. I added chicken for extra $4.74 and it was very tender! Overall, I enjoyed the salad but a bit pricey so it was a good one time experience! The Chicken Pesto Caprese ($14.10) was pretty good. It consisted of chicken, mozzarella, red peppers, pesto, and mixed greens. The greens were very fresh and the sandwich was packed with flavor. The chicken was a little dry but not a big deal. There was a lot of red pepper and it was a bit overwhelming so I wished there wasn't so much. Really enjoyed the pesto since it it wasn't too salty and was the cherry on top to the sandwich! I also really liked that the bread was soft and fresh. Got the "Not so Fried" Chicken Sandwich ($13.68) - 1/2 portion and it came with a side (paid extra $1.26) for tomato basil soup. It consisted of chicken, krispies, mustard pickle slaw, tomatoes, onions, and herb aioli. The bread was very fresh and soft. I'm glad I got this in half portion because I thought this was just ok and nothing special. The tomato basil soup was very oily and salty so wasn't too enjoyable. The Pomegranate Mint Lemonade ($5.10) was sooo sweet. It was refreshing but the mint was a little too overpowering. Definitely recommend adding ice and/or water otherwise it's way too sweet! Overall, the sandwich and salads were a bit pricey but definitely one of the better spots for sandwiches and salads in terms of quality and quantity!

Once you walk in you can smell the sausage roll and meat pies being made fresh! They have a general menu of what flavors they have for the day or week not sure. Hubby got the Classic Aussie sandwich and the bread pudding, while my son and I got the Beef Pho meat pies and Popcorn Pork meat pie rolls. The beef pho meat pie definitely had the pho flavors and aromatics. This was absolutely delicious! The Popcorn Pork was good, not as aromatic as the pho pie. The flavor was lacking on the Taiwanese popcorn chicken basil flavor that it claimed. It reminded me more of a Vietnamese meat pie (pate chaud), which is peppery with a smoother texture that this one did not have, but it was still flavorful. The bread pudding was good but the texture was more dense reminding me of a banana bread loaf. I didn't care for the dollop of yogurt on top, which took away from the flavor of the bread pudding itself. Hubby said the Classic Aussie was good but was expensive for the size of the sandwich (small burger size). Hubby got the Long Black coffee which was good, but sadly my iced matcha latte was lacking in the matcha flavor. It was very pale in color and tasted mostly of milk. Service was quick and friendly. I will come back for the meats and try the other flavors of the meat pies next time.
