We tried the new Urbane Cafe in Chula Vista today. It took awhile for the food to come but it was delicious and worth the wait. We each had a sandwich and tomato soup. My husband had the BBQ Tri Tip and I had the Santa Maria BBQ and we gave each other a bite so we could compare flavors. They were a bit stingy with the napkins and that yummy bbq sauce on the sandwiches calls for extra napkins. Two things that caused me to give four stars instead of five: they had the side door open and that lets in flies that have to be shooed away. The other thing was the young woman at the counter where the food is distributed from. She coughed a couple times (to her credit, she did turn her back to the food when she coughed and I didn't see her touch any actual food; just plates and plastic containers) but what was more disturbing is that she kept touching her mouth and nose with her left hand and used that same hand to handle plates and the "to go" containers. She also had a glove on only her right hand. I worked in a deli as a young girl and the first thing I was taught was that you never touch your hands to your mouth and nose and that if you do, you wash your hands immediately and thoroughly. Cleanliness, cleanliness, cleanliness! We will likely go back and hopefully our food won't be handled with bare hands. read more

came here for the first time on a Sunday afternoon with my partner. we ordered the ahi salad and the crunchy peanut salad with the cranberry white chocolate cookie. both the salad that we ordered was very fresh and delicious and the focaccia bread that came with it is soft and tasty. In addition, the warm cranberry white chocolate cookie is amazing. my wife who is not a cookie monster like me but she loved it so we bought half a dozen to take it home. It's wonderful to have an Urbane Cafe open up in Chula Vista. I've ordered from the Mira Mesa and Encinitas stores before so I know what to expect. I am all for healthy eating choices and a fan of both their sandwiches and salads so I can vouch for their awesome food: great menu selection, ingredients, and flavors. The service, however, was just decent when I came in. You could tell they are still in the midst of training new employees so I can understand. However, what annoyed me was having to wait a few minutes in an almost empty restaurant while I saw my meal sit on the counter uncovered with a receipt lying directly on top of my food. For that matter, I took two stars off because it's a germ-phobic era we live in and that shouldn't be taken lightly. It is still an early start, and I won't let this discourage me from returning. WOW. We just ordered from here on GrubHub and everything was perfection! We didn't know there was a new spot open and the menu was right up our alley. I got the tri tip sandwich and my husband got the club sandwich. Everything was packaged beautifully. The food was so fresh, the bread was DELICIOUS. Both meals came with a salad. I am so picky about ranch and theirs is so good. We also appreciate that there's a decent amount of dressing provided. You can tell quality matters to management even down to the utensils they provide. We also love that they have fountain drinks. Even though we like to eat healthy sometimes it just sounds good to have with a soda. This will be a place we will be frequenting and will be working our way to try everything because it all looks amazing. The flavors are great, the ingredients are fresh and the root beer (made with cane sugar) is some of the best root beer I have had from a soda machine! Put in a curbside order 2/23 for 7:30 pm. Arrived a couple minutes early just in case they were slammed. When we arrived, I let them know we had parked through the website. The inside looked empty, maybe they were having a slow moment. The website said the food would be out shortly. We were happy to wait and sat in the designated spot. 10 minutes went by, 20, and at the 30 minute mark, we were annoyed and called in. The phone was answered by rosemary who sounded frustrated- she was very short with us. She said the food would be out. Immediately after we saw her grab food we had seen someone place on the counter a bit ago and bring it out. We waited half an hour for food that had been just sitting there. When she got to our car, my husband politely asked if our food had been ready and maybe they were too busy to bring it out, but the girl ignored him, turned around and walked away without a word. The second time, I ordered the Southwest with the side salad, and again, everything was delicious. So far, the Southwest is my favorite; it has just enough "heat" without being too spicy and overpowering. I like spicy food, but I think even those who don't would enjoy this sandwich. The sandwiches are a generous portion; both times I couldn't finish them. Friendly service and greeting at the door. Order was taken and was given a table top sign to hold on to while waiting for for "to go" order. Unusual, right? The young lady delivering my order found me and I figured that was it. I wa dead wrong. Just like my experience with Thai fresh, I got home and instead of the So Cal sandwich I ordered, I ended up with the ahi tuna and some chicken salad. Ugh, here we go again. Not feeling like driving back again, (like with Thai fresh), I ate the order and realized that ahi tuna not only does not belong salads, it should not be raw! I just hope whoever they gave my sandwich to, enjoyed it. I am sorry, however, for the ones waiting for the Teo salads. Hopefully the staff made it right for them. The food is great, we are lucky enough to live very close to a location and we have yet to be disappointed. Service was great and very happy. The only down side is the location though. Depending on the time of the day it's a nightmare for parking. As far as ambiance though it can be up and down. Limited seating and limited standing room from the seating area. I really like it here. The sandwiches are really yummy, especially the focaccia bread. I usually don't get desserts from restaurants/fast food but the cookies they were selling looked really good and tasted even better, they're kept warmed so they always taste fresh. I recommend getting the chicken pesto sandwich with the house salad it was really good I also really liked the salad. The one thing I didn't enjoy was the tomato soup, it was too heavy and creamy for me and it didn't taste as good as other tomato soups I've had. The service was very good the cashiers I've had have been very helpful and I can always see a manager helping out. I do wish there was more seating because it can feel cramped and loud. There is seating outside but since it's been really hot mostly everyone is inside. But overall I would go back and I have already multiple times. read more
