Came up here as a guest with my husband for a Yelp Elite event! Drove up from Oceanside. My family live up here and have been telling me for quite a while to check it out next time I'm up this way I had the Ahi salad. The produce was super fresh and the tuna was fresh as well. I loved the dressing for the salad. It was a perfect mix of sweet and spicy! The girl who helped us at the register was super cheerful and friendly. Veggie Banh Mi is one of my favorite sandwiches my amazing wife makes at home. Urban cafe's version did not disappoint. Roasted eggplant, zucchini, portobello, pickled fresno chilies, and radish. Cilantro, gochujanh chili aioli. This thing was freaking amazing!! To top off the sandwich this places makes there bread from scratch in a flame oven. Super impressed and excited to come back. Service was great, extra clean nicely modeled bathroom, and free WiFi. Great job! I will be back soon. read more

I came here for a yelp elite event and let me tell I WILL be back. Firstly, they are a chain, didn't realize that. They are based in SoCal and have locations all around SD. If you are looking for a complete and fresh meal give this place a try. Every sandwich comes with your choice of soup or salad. I ordered the Cilantro Chicken Torta which was delicious, filling and the tomatillo salsa was to die for. I learned the bread is made fresh and no bread is older than 45 minutes so that's what makes these sandwiches also stand apart from other fast casual restaurants. I also ordered a side of the roasted pepper soup with gouda was so good but I was too full from my sandwich and salad that I took it to go. My husband ordered the chimichurri steak sandwich that came with lots of vegetables. He really enjoyed it and ate it super fast. I had to quickly sneak in a photo before it was all gone. They have a craft soda bar where the drinks are made with pure cane sugar. The Dr. Batch tastes similar to Dr. Pepper and was good. Finally, if you like lemon flavored dessert you MUST get the Lemon Cooler cookie. It came warm and I devoured it. I wish I got two of them. I will definitely come back to this fast casual restaurant. For 2 sandwiches/salad, 1 drink, 1 soup, 1 cookie the total was about $26. Totally reasonable. read more

The soup and sandwich offerings of this place remind me a lot of a Panera cafe without the sometimes overwhelming choices of breads, soups, sides, and variation in main dishes. The menu is simple and their spin on fresh is that every item on the menu is made fresh in the "scratch" kitchen where you won't find any microwaves or prepared food storage refrigerators! We ordered a couple sandwiches and soups. I think from the time we put the order in it took less than 5 minutes before they were ready. This was my first time here and the staff was all very nice. We were delayed to our time slot due to traffic, but they let it slide as it was an Elite Event which was very sweet. My friend & I got the same thing, the turkey club on focaccia. It was good, lots of turkey & a nice subtle aioli, they let us pick out chips & a cookie too. Kettle chips and fresh cookies are always a lovely addition. I was too excited to eat my food to take photos, but I would certainly return here for lunch when in the area. urbane cafe has been a household favorite since 2017, ever since we discovered it in carlsbad... so happy to have found a location while we were visiting temecula. this location is on par with the locations in san diego. friendly staff, quality food. we had a chance to chat with the manager for a few and he really had the passion for creating a positive people culture. can't wait to see more new locations in the future! will definitely revisit whenever we're in town :) read more

2nd Update: I inhaled the SoCal sandwich today...it was incredible! Best sandwich I've tried here. The chicken was melt in your mouth great! Loved it!! Updating my initial review and going all the way to the right - 5 Stars!: Had lunch again today and thoroughly enjoyed the Rustic Rosemary chicken sandwich. This sandwich could not have been better!! Everything is fresh and service was prompt with plenty of smiles! Will continue to frequent this gem. Initial review: Had lunch today at Urbane Cafe. Was glad to see the variety and host of healthy choices. They offer craft soft drinks and lemonades to wet the whistle! The staff was courteous and friendly. Food was served promptly and was delicious! Plenty of indoor seating and an upbeat crowd. Enjoyed the Santa Maria BBQ chicken sandwich with the Urbane house salad, which is served on the side. My daughter had the Cafe salad with roasted chicken. She said it was probably the best salad she has ever had! I decided to try the watermelon mint lemonade. It was refreshing and a nice change. Yikes! Used to often this place but have not been back in a while . This place use to be super clean . Now.... it's another story . Visited today about 4pm (8/5) . The restaurant had 2 tables that were clean enough to sit at . Soda area was sticky and not stocked . Hot sauce had crusty rims , a few flys were inside restaurant. Floors needed to be swept . Bathroom was decent , no complaints there . When I go to a restaurant I expect a clean environment, it's food service for goodness sake ! Dining in a dirty dining room is a huge turn off and I won't be back because of this . Shame . read more

Came here for lunch to pick-up an online order on 8/6. It said the order would be ready by 12:26 pm. Checked at 12:45, still not ready. Checked back again at 1:15, and she handed it to us by 1:30. Keep in mind we ordered at 12:00 so in summary, the whole experience took 1.5 hours total. My friends who ordered inside got their meals by 12:30, ate, and left before I even got mine. Because I was on lunch from work, I needed to bolt back. By the time I opened up my order, I realized she gave us the wrong order. Completely different and wasn't even the name I said, but I couldn't go back to even get things fixed. Luckily I don't have any food allergies or specific diets, otherwise I wouldn't have had a lunch. I ate it anyways because I couldn't go back to get things fixed and didn't feel like waiting probably another hour. A really bad first experience that I don't think I'll be coming back. read more

Really love their salads, so we order from them via doordash alot. But lately when we order they continually forget to add the extra Ahi Tuna in the bag. When it happens one time, I understand, it happens, but multiple times and too many to count, there is an issue. We pay a decent amount for the extra Ahi, not a problem. But you guys forget too many times. Doordash has been really good at reimbursing us for the missed Ahi, but it shouldn't be happening as much as it does. This is really sad because we have decided not to shop this restaurant anymore. Gonna miss those salads. read more

Great salads and sandwiches served on foccacia made on the premises. (To me, the soups seem over priced for what you get.) I love the sundried tomato, chicken pesto sandwich. My family also like the keto salad and the ahi salad. Prices are fairly reasonable for the quality of the ingredients. For our family of 4 adults, picking up from Urbane Cafe is about 25-50% less expensive than any other restaurant the area. Highly recommend! read more

Clean restaurant. The food is okay, I got a Santa Margarita BBQ Chicken Salad. I asked for "dry side" and they still put this berry dressing on the salad. I didn't really appreciate that, considering I had asked about having all dressings on the side. Prices are decent and the quality of food is good. But I wouldn't say that this is a 5star joint. All menu items didn't really strike me as original or something I could get else where. However, this is Temecula, and I think for Temecula-standards it is original. Not sure if that makes sense, but basically Temecula is just as much as a food desert as it is an actual desert. I'll give this place another go and try something different. It's always nice when reviews & current Yelp rankings are accurate, Urbane Cafe is = L E G I T The minute we walked in we felt lost but welcomed, unsure of what to order although we immediately were asked to approach the counter so they could explain & breakdown all our options. They did not steer us wrong as everything they recommended was on the money! Favorites: Their kale & quinoa salad was uhhhh-mazing, super flavorful (would definitely order again) not to mention their cilantro dressing certainly was spot on & boy was it GOOD! It ALL screams F-R-E-S-H!! Their Cobb salad was really good as well but I preferred the kale & quinoa, its lighter & more refreshing. I have to say I dislike focaccia bread like you would not believe, WHEN they communicated that's ALL they had it sent chills down my spine. I was like "what, 1 bread to choose from" UNTIL I took a little bite, WHOA I could NOT believe focaccia bread COULD actually taste good. I m sure it's because they bake it FRESH every hour on the hour, it's super tasty!! The ONLY, ONLY constructive criticism I have is to please warm up the place a little bit, at least take out the chill as it was quite freezing. NOW the BEST for last!! My Husband and I came in after a long morning of hanging out.. I was literally so excited, I had a hard time choosing from the menu. My husbands all time favorite is the BBQ Tri- Tip. He literally tried to order something else.. but ended up ordering the BBQ Tri- Tip. I didn't feel like eating bread (even though I love it) so I ordered the Salad of the day. The place was pretty empty, so it was too easy to find a seat. My husband grabbed us both waters and took a seat. 5 Minutes later, our buzzer was buzzing and he got up and grabbed our food. I felt like a little kid getting a new game when he started walking back with the food. My salad was HUGE. It was intimidating, but I was more than excited for the first bite! They gave me two dressings, their traditional balsamic vinegar and a pumpkin spice. YOU GUYS.. I have never had a pumpkin spice salad dressing before..this was KILLER. It was so good. I always go back to the Balsamic. Theirs is honestly so delicious and as not as acidic. I love it ! My husband let me take a bite of his sandwich and it tasted just like when I had first came and visit. Just as delicious! Coming here is always a treat. Being new to the area, I am still discovering places to eat. I was first introduced to Urbane Cafe during a meeting at work. I had the Tofu Bahn Mi sandwich and was quickly reminded of Mendocino Farms which I frequent while I was still living in LA. Fast forward Saturday afternoon on my way home, I decided to stop by and grab some Bahn Mi sandwich. The place was empty so sat down while I wait for my food. The table was sticky and the floors were clearly not cleaned. Although the place is modern, there was this lingering smell that reminded me of an old Chinese restaurant. The Bahn Mi was delicious as expected. The Salmon salad, however did not meet expectation and was forgettable. I will definitely be back for the tofu sandwich but will be skipping the salad. read more

History

Established in 2003.

It all started in 2003 when owner Tom Holt realized there was a missing niche in the Ventura restaurant scene. He wanted a great sandwich and salad 'Äì something different, while still being dedicated to delicious-tasting food. He understood that every great sandwich starts with the freshest of bread, so he designed the cafe around a hearth oven. Working with his friend Pete, they came up with a bread recipe that was soft, delicious and baked fresh, right in front of your eyes. It didn'Äôt stop there though, he created a menu centered around locally sourced ingredients, juicy-roasted meats, and crafted sauces to give each creation its own unique flavor. Urbane Cafe loves being the place where friends, family, and communities gather to celebrate and make memories over delicious food. Our passion is to have our guests walk out happy every time and keep them coming back for more.

Meet the Business Owner: Tom H.

Tom Holt is the owner, founder and Chief Bread Head of Urbane Cafe. As a young child Tom developed a love for motocross racing. His first career was at the age of sixteen when he became a professional motocross racer. In 2003, Tom Holt'Äôs vision was to bring a great-tasting, healthy, and affordable sandwich and salad restaurant to the friendly people of Ventura, California: a nice, small town where he grew up. Urbane Cafe quickly became the gathering place where people meet to engage, relax and enjoy a great meal at a great value. The success of that first location proved that Tom had struck a chord with the local community. Urbane Cafe is all family owned and has continued to expand since 2003 to multiple locations across California.

The perfect balance of savory, garlicky, sweet, and creamy. The pizza dough was perfectly baked and had a nice crunch to it. I can see why it's so highly rated! The decor was cute, modern, a bit industrial. Definitely a good spot for a date night or nice lunch or dinner celebration. Would definitely come back again for this pizza!

I was exhausted and simply wanted a comforting meal. Being turned away after waiting 25 minutes just because I by myself was the last thing I needed. When I called this restaurant, the owner or manager immediately answered and was incredibly friendly. He explained that they offer entrée and plate options for guests who aren't doing the all-you-can-eat menu. I honestly don't understand why more restaurants don't offer this. I know the food industry is competitive and businesses have to make money, but having options for solo diners makes such a difference. When I arrived, I received wonderful service right away, and there was no wait, but they were full. The owner or manager recognized me as the person who had called earlier and went out of his way to make me feel welcome since we found out we're from the same area. He even added a little surprise to my order simply out of kindness. The entire staff was friendly, professional, and attentive. In an area with no shortage of restaurants, I want to give this place the credit it deserves, not only for the excellent food, but for the heart behind the business. Today, I'm especially grateful for the kindness and generosity shown to me. You never know what someone may be going through, and a simple act of thoughtfulness can make a bigger impact than you realize. His kindness truly lifted my spirits after a long and difficult day. We ordered and were quickly presented with: Spicy Pepper Beef: A medium spice level with a savory dark soy sauce, bathing ultra tender beef slices, married with thin sliced jalapeño and diced red and green bell peppers. Unbelievably delicious. Walnut Honey Shrimp: Mega large butterflied prawns quickly fried with walnuts and sweet glaze, crispy and crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Tangerine Chicken: Large delicate and tender chicken breast pieces deep fried in a fluffy batter and glazed with a perfectly sweet and tart tangerine sauce.
