I needed something sweet to top off my lunch at Magic Wok with Mikolas, and I can't think of a better way to end a delicious Filipino lunch but with some equally delicious Filipino sweets. On this particular trip, I (or rather, Mikolas--thanks!!) picked me up some Pan de Ube. Pan de Ube tastes like a sweet dinner roll (similar to King's Hawaiian rolls) filled with sweet purple yam paste. A bag of 6 rolls is about $2.50. The center of my Turon universe. Certainly the best wrapped and fried banana / jack fruit combo on the West coast. Thin, sweet, crispy and chock full of the essential vitamins and minerals you need to get you through the day. The best thing about 'em is that they don't wrap these things a bazillion million times so that all you get is a measly sliver of banana hidden in a one inch layer of spring roll wrapping. At 75 cents a piece, you'll find yourself making a u-turn just as your about to make it to your car and wonder if you've got enough change in your pocket for just one more fix. If you don't fancy the fried banana try your hand at any of the other baked goods they seem to have a never-ending stock of: pan de sal, pan de leche, ensymada, and butter-and-sugar covered things that make my teeth hurt just thinking about 'em. Just keep your eye on Valerios and indulge in some of their amazing baked goods like Pan de Sal, hopia, or ensaymada (but the ensaymada is pretty commercial, I'd say its at the level of Goldilocks or Red Ribbon... but those places are popular and delicious for a reason!!) The fresh pan de sal straight from the oven is what I go back here for! The bakery is not really fancy (looks like a typical corner barrio bakery in the Philippines) but wow the aroma inside makes up for the lack of interior appeal. Aside from the pan de sal (wheat dinner rolls), I get anything freshly baked from this place. You can ask them for "what just came out of the oven" items. But the frozen siopaos are also actually excellent if you want to give your mom or auntie something she can freeze and reheat lateron. read more

My review will strictly be on what I ordered: Cheese Rolls - Ok, so these are nothing like the famous Porto's but damn are these good. The bread is nice, soft, & tender. A nice thick sliver of cream cheese is placed smack dab in the center and it is smothers in butter and sugar. Pan de Sal - The pan de sal they have here is only good when fresh. If you are looking for pan de sal that is good when you re-heat it at home, then buy the Betsy's brand that can be found at most filipino markets and bakeries. Pan de Ube - Probably one of my favorite combos -- bread & ube. OVERALL - It's great to swing by if you are looking for a quick filipino bread fix or even to buy some snacks for a friend you are visiting. This is a little hole-in-the-wall Filipino bakery across the parking lot from Jollibee. As others have mentioned, I usually come here to purchase pan de sal, especially when they're fresh and hot out of the oven! :-) The aroma of the pan del sal baking is enough to get my mouth watering. They have other baked goodies as well, such as the cheese rolls, pan de racion (made with pineapple juice), ensaymada and the best empanadas (meat pies) on the planet! The busiest times of the year are around the holidays and Easter. So if you want to get hot pan de sal during these times, it's best to get there when they first open the door for business because the line can form rather quickly and be out the door in no time. Small Filipino bakery with a steady flow of traffic. Very bare bones and the bread items are the main show stopper I guess. I didn't try much here so I am sorry to only give 3 stars, but the place usually doesn't have a huge selection and when my bf and I ordered the Chicken Siao Pao, it was much more bready/dense than I would have liked. I also got the orange colored rice cakes which were also average in my opinion. I probably ordered the wrong things but I wasn't overly impressed with my previous visits either. I finally got a chance to visit this bakery last month and made sure that U went first thing in the AM when pan de sal is freshly baked and warm. Valerio's is a small Filipino bakery right next to Seafood City. My all time favorite is their pandesal or "bread rolls" in English & it's definitely a must try, it's best eaten when fresh and straight out of the oven! They have a variety of fresh pastries out so it's not the same everyday, there's always a lot to choose from. Not a big fan of the packaged breads but some of them are pretty good! The prices are pretty reasonable, usually $0.60 per piece! Valerio's is always my go to Bakery when I want Filipino pastries and bread. read more

If you are a first time visitor, try the freshly baked Pan De Sal rolls. You can never go wrong with the freshly baked Pan De Sal rolls...you can smell them as you walk into the bakery! I've been a customer of Valerio's for years, and Pan De Sal from this location always takes me back to my childhood. No one else's rolls tastes as great as theirs. I wish the wheat Pan De Sal rolls were baked fresh too. One thing that I always buy here along with the rolls is the Turon...this place by far (in my opinion) has the best Turon! Filled a good portion of the banana, perfectly fried, and tastes delicious. I am never disappointed after visiting Valerio's. I've only tried the thing...uh hm I'll describe it. It's like 6 little buns surrounding one bun covered in..sugar and..butter? Sounds boring but it's fun to snack on. Definitely a 'safe' choice, I've yet to try anything else... I pulled a maple here before... I bought and paid for it and headed home. Every Saturday I come to this Bakery to get my morning breakfast. This happens twice already that I got an old ensaymada and old bibingka (panis). The tray just came out from inside with all fresh mantikilya and sugar on top. I ordered two pieces and two suman and two eggrolls. I called the bakery and inform them that the bread is hard and old, I was told that it was from yesterday. Other bakeries put a sign for one day old bread, I wish they will do that so it is not deceiving to clients. I am sorry to say that they just lost a client. Two is enough for me read more

I have a love affair with their cheese rolls! Filled with mouth watering cream cheese. Within 15 miles from where I live, there are virtually no Filipino bakeries. I literally have to go out of my way to get "pan de ube". But I'm a bit disappointed with pan de ube from Valerio's City Bakery. I prefer the bread to be more moist and the purple yam filling to be more generous and slightly sweeter.
