During a recent trip to Hawaii, a friend gave us a wedge of saipin saipin from a local Filipino bakery. Had it for dessert in the hotel and it was delicious. This dessert is a traditional Filipino layered rice cake made from glutinous rice flour, coconut milk and sugar with a purple layer made from ube and a yellow layer made with jackfruit. Think of it as Filipino mochi. So I was shopping at Seafood City and decided to check out Valerio's to see if they had saipin saipin. This bakery is full of various types of Filipino desserts. I love ube and I saw ube loaf bread, haba haba, ube pandesal, hopya ube, ube crinkles, ube rolls, biko ube and saipin saipin. I got a small box of 6 pieces. These were round shaped and topped with latik (toasted coconut curds). They were delicious. I will be back and will try some of their other ube offerings in the future. read more

I was told to come here for their turon but it wasn't what we were expecting. The price was way more exceptional than the other vendors though. We bought a bread with Ube in it and had to get cookies because they only let you use credit card if it's over 10$ The cookies weren't all that great either. My kid did enjoy the Ube bread though. So my issue here is that I was double charged!! So save your receipts or pay in cash here is my advice if you are planning to buy here. Also if you have been coming here and using your card and they slide it 2 times and only one receipt comes out, double check your statements because that's what happened with me. I was charged 2 times for the same amount. They are a small location at the front or back entrance pretty much the entrance on the mall side. Lots to choose from but I don't have much else to say due to the inconvenience I have to look for my receipt. They seem nice but I'm not going to explain more because I'm not happy with this issue. We came for some Filipino treats and I'm not always in the area. First time dropping by this bakery shop. Not too familiar with Filipino bake goods. The only thing that caught my eye was the turon that I previously had at company potlucks. I usually get turon next door at Seafood Grill but the ones being sold were large and looked like it was barely fried and pale. Seafood Grill was $3.99 while Valerio was $1.25 each and was far superior based on looks and price. My husband never had it before and his eyes widen with the first delicious bite. He doesn't like fried food because it's unhealthy but his eyes didn't say so. Will be my top spot for turon and I check out the other goods people were picking up. I didn't know about this location! I was at the Jollibee on the other side and my mom mentioned there is a Valerio's here. Of course I had to go check it out. I had just visited the union city location a few days ago and was sad they didn't have empanadas. As soon as I walked in, they were shouting that they have fresh chicken empanadas!! I got 4 and I believe they were $3.15 each. I can't remember but it was $12 something. They also have beef empanadas - maybe next time! Not sure if all locations have the same recipe, but the empanada here tastes a bit sweeter than the ones I've had before. The chicken is also more shredded. I still enjoyed them very much and glad my craving has been satisfied! I do also like that this location is bigger and it was nice and clean (Saturday afternoon). COVID-19 Review: Ube everything! One of the few filipino bakeries in the area and it is definitely my go to! It is a small shop located in the same building as Seafood City and Red Ribbon. There is plenty of parking and they are handling the SIP quite well. The shop is nice and clean and they offer sanitizer by the registers. There are lines marked inside and outside of the store. In my opinion this location is better than the one in Union City. There's less people and it's bigger. They sell a wide variety of fresh and tasty pastries, desserts, and breads to choose from. My favorite has to be their freshly baked Ube Cheese Pandesal. It's so fluffy and ube-flavored without it being too overpowering! The cheese on top also adds nice texture to the bite. There are multiple Valerio's Tropical Bakeshop locations in the Bay Area so definitely go check one out! read more

Valerio's is my go to Filipino bakery. While there are several Asian markets that carry Filipino baked goods, I prefer to pick them up fresh from this location, which is conveniently located near my office in Hayward. Since Valerio's is located next to Seafood City, I usually hit both of them up on a single trip. I'll purchase my regular groceries at Seafood City, then pick up the baked goods from Valerio's. Unless I'm buying food for friends and family, my standard order is a package of the plain ensaymada and one bag of pan de sal. I also enjoy some turon if my sweet tooth flares up. They always try to act like they don't know what they are looking at and or question you for their baked goods being moldy. Be aware and always check your purchases before leaving the store. I hate to write this review because my mom and I love buying baked goods here. We got this 2/27/22 and when we were about to eat it at home on the same day, we noticed that there's of MOLD! We called them to notify so they can quickly remove it off their shelves. The lady on the phone already sounded annoyed when we called. Mind you, we weren't complaining but just informing them! I understand people make mistakes but what annoyed us is that they did NOT even apologize when we returned it, rather they rudely told my mom that she should check the "expiration date" before purchasing. That comment was uncalled for because even if the expiration date has passed, it should not be on your shelves for sale. Valerio's is my go-to for quick Filipino desserts! I'm pretty much a regular at this location since it's the one closest to me. Most recently, I ordered 15 turon ($1.25 ea), 2 leche flan (sorry forget the price!) and 12 Porto's-style cheese rolls ($4.39 for 4) for a dinner party I was having. I came in person about 2 days ahead of my event, put in my order and paid with no problem. On the day of the event, my fiancé picked up my order by giving the receipt. The turon has been my fav here recently. It's always the perfect amount of crispy and not too sticky. I've also been a big fan of their cheese rolls (the big ones with the stick of cream cheese in the middle). So bad for you probably, but too good to resist. My family has also always bought their pan de sal and pan de ube. The shop is small and the line can get long on the weekend mornings or around lunch time. It's best to go on a weekday evening or in the morning. A lot of people in other reviews talk about the service. Honestly, it's not *spectacular* service or anything but also, it's a grab and go spot so I don't really expect them to go above and beyond. I've never had any issues! read more

This place is still great, their empanadas are great but their turon is the best, even stays crispy till the next day!! (If you've never heard of it, turon is banana and jackfruit, wrapped in pastry-like dough, deep fried and glazed with a honey sauce... Yummmm!). They sell out early so get there early, and I just found out the other day they accept calls for bigger orders- I called around 2 pm and they made 50 for a work crew that was ready for me to pick up by 5:30pm! I loveeee Ube. When this place opened, I had to stop by to see what they offer. They make a lot of ube pastries and as well as other breads. If you come here in the mornings, you can purchase their pastries fresh from the oven! They only offer certain things "fresh" or things you can purchase individually at the counter. Which is amazing because I wanted to try some items before getting a whole box worth of goodies. They accept cards with a min. of $10. That isn't hard if you buy a couple things here and there. Went to Seafood City today to get groceries, & was excited to find Valerios inside. I bought pandesal and palitaw.& I always make sure to check expiration dates especially for pastries and delicacies. After taking a bite of the Palitaw, the texture didn't seem right. This is the newest addition to seafood city. While all the pastries we bought we're good, they were not very fresh. We bought a lot of different things too, from señorita bread to pastries. The flavor was good and the sizes of the pastries weren't too bad, especially for the price. They were extremely stuffed with filling and had a variety of flavors to choose from. We came here Saturday mid-day and there was a huge selection to choose from but like I said, the majority of the pastries were hard or somewhat stale. We go here because it is the nearest Valerio's for us. We generally get the whole wheat pandesal and sometimes the pastries that are 50% off. Overall, the pastries and bread are good, but the reason why I gave this place two stars is because we almost always get overcharged. Today, we were overcharged when we purchased multiple 50% off pastries. Luckily, we checked our receipt before we left, so we were able to go back to have that corrected. The customer before us got overcharged one extra item as well. Be sure to check your receipt before you leave to make sure they don't charge you extra and that the price they charge is actually correct. What awful service. The containers are so flimsy and they say it's not their fault but they are the ones providing the container. My mom went to this location to buy our favorite chicken empanadas and siopao but unfortunately, due to the bad containers the siopao popped out because the container broke. No exchange for replacement baos were offered and the manager refused even offer one yet my mom spent so much money in the store. I understand it's COVID and times are rough, but continually saying "it's not our fault" is not good customer service. It's not about faults it's about being accountable that the containers are the problem and being forgiving to loyal customers. I always come here whenever I'm in the area. It's like my trip to Union City isn't complete if I didn't stop by and get myself some Filipino breads and "kakanin" It's always a hit or miss here. Either you'll like their bread or nah. I usually enjoy whatever I get. Parking won't be a problem since it's inside a little commercial plaza. The store itself could be crowded since there's not much space inside especially if you wanna browse through their items on a weekend? Good luck. I think their items are reasonably priced. Most of their kakanin is hard to make so I don't really mind paying a little extra. I like that they sell a smaller package or a sampler of some of their kakanin so you could try it first and see if you'll like it or nah.
