We recently bought our son his first car (he paid for most of it himself!) at Kia of Van Nuys. Our dealer was Charles and he was wonderful, I highly recommend going to see him. I am leery of "car salesmen" in general but he put us at ease. He wasn't pushy and he worked hard to make sure we got an excellent deal. He was friendly and knowledgable without being overbearing and he took his time giving us every detail we needed to make the right decision. I am confirming what others have written about this dishonest car dealership and their outrageous business practices. KIA Van Nuys advertises one price online but when you get to the dealership they try to act as though it would be a big concession on their part to sell the car at that discounted price. This is their "negotiation". What they do not tell you is that you are forced to buy a couple of thousand dollars of nearly worthless add-ons (e.g. $995 paint protection that does not cover rock chips); they will not take these off the invoice, even if they agree to do that directly to your face. What we have here is a shell game, where the salesman says "I understand, let me talk to my boss about getting those removed". From there it's jacking up your APR, saying there is a "dealership discount fee" which will in effect negate those add-ons. But wait -- the price that was quoted for the car online ALREADY had that dealership discount factored into the "advertised" price. It all ends with a clever bunch of soft soap whereby the final paperwork is a mish-mash of contradictory figures, all helped along by a "good cop" who keeps reassuring you that this will not be the final price you will be paying for the car, because of the discounts you so skillfully negotiated. But that's a total lie. The only truth is that the dealership is required by law to show what the full price of the car is if you only make the minimum payment over the duration of the loan; of course this figure is substantially higher than what you negotiated thanks to their insistence that you borrow as much as possible or the sale is in jeopardy. They actually refused to sell me the car UNLESS I financed a majority of it. This is how they sneak in the extra fees. I am going to spare the poor sales associate the embarrassment and shame of writing his name here. But the sales manager at this dealership? The guy wearing parachute pants, gym shoes and a chain dangling from his wrist? Absolutely stay away. The only reason I am not more furious is because I was able to still get a new car at a decent price before inventories all dried up -- thanks to my timing and persistence. I advise you to learn from my mistake and spare yourself. Go elsewhere. read more

My wife and I were looking for a new EV and was happy to see the folks at Van Nuys Kia had a new Niro EV they were happy to let us test drive. It was nice to stay in the neighborhood and not have to drive to the other end of LA. When we got the sales rep Ramon was quick not to have us wait around before we went on a test drive. He answered all our questions about the car and pointed out it's many features - I really appreciated that. We test drove a lot of EVs and we really liked the no pressure vibe we got with Ramon at Van Nuys Kia. Furthermore, Ramon was straight forward with us on the price and let us know the areas where we may be able to work things out when we sat down to look at the numbers. We had a couple other cars to look at and we were able to leave without being hassled. Well, needless to say we really loved the Niro and when we came back to negotiate a final price Ramon was super patient with my wife and I giving us all the space we needed to figure things out. I would recommend taking off any special fobs or keychains on your keys before handing over to the service guys. In servicing my vehicle for one morning they destroyed a very special keyfob. It was a okay experience. I went in at 920 am for a recall my car had and was told 4 hours so I said that's fine it's expected. They called me a Lyft since they do offer free ride 5 mile radius. Well after 3 hours I decide to text the number they offer to call for a Lyft back I ended up taking the bus back they texted me a hour later. I got there and waited in the lobby and 230 (5hours later) I went to ask when will my car be ready? She said a hour I was patient enough and Said fine. I go back in and I'm staring at my car just parked in the back lol. They finally start working on it at 330 i didn't leave until 5 pm. 8 hours later after being told it's only 4 hours. I live a hour away from here and came because it had 5 stars.
