I have to say I've been to small "mom and pops" restaurants and they usually have awesome service especially when it's not busy, BUT this place takes the price! I walked in with my family and were about to leave because I tables for 4 were available the place was full! So we were gonna order take out when the waiter told us he had a table available or he could re-arrange two smaller ones! We get our table and get our menus and the variety is amazing!! Breakfast meals like pancakes, omelettes and Mexican dishes lunch and dinner all great flavor! Prices may seem a bit much but well worth it!! read more

Interesting find in Chula Vista. This place is a mix of every Mexican stand you can think of (churros, tostilocos, raspados, tortas, burritos), a Mexican restaurant, a deli, and even has a station to purchase filtered water from along with a wall of different water containers to choose from! It's like Mexican food and beverage needs wrapped in one location! I ordered the lengua with green sauce while my boyfriend went with a delicious take on the Americanized carne asada fries that has nacho cheese instead of the usual shredded cheese. The portions size made for a perfectly filling (not too full) meal. The only negative thing I'd have to say about this place is that they triggered my annoyance with a pet peeve of mine: The server spoke to us in Spanish first, which is understandable, but after hearing us order and speak in English he continued to speak to us in Spanish throughout the duration of our visit. He clearly spoke English to the American customers, so get it right! If I'm not speaking in Spanish, clearly I either don't speak it or it's not my native language! Other than that, the food is delicious, the portion size is how the size of meal should be, the prices are cheap, and the amount of different other snack and goodies is endless! read more

Tiny place. Raspados are awesome! Not ridiculously sweet like in other places. We tried the carne asada fries an oh my! Very yummy. The serving size is smaller than in most places but the taste can't be beat! I'd rather get less food but better quality and taste. Worth every penny! Bring cash to leave tip. Service is fantastic. I don't think I'll ever eat in because there's hardly any room. But worth to pick up food and go to the marina off of J street and enjoy! read more

I love this place. It's a little hiddent whole in the wall that has yummy authentic mex food. My personal favorite is the berria. My son loves their mango/chamoy raspados. Their breakfast is great as well. I've never ordered something I didn't like and never had a problem with the service. I just hope their prices don't start to go up. I come here often, i enjoy the great food and family atmospehere. Real mexican homemade food not to mention their raspados. (Mango is my favorite ). They have all kinds of dishes all mouth watering. My experience here at Vanessa's Deli was definitely not memorable and I will not be coming back. The service was horrible and the cashier was rude. My husband and I were craving some elotes and raspados so we decided that this little shop had decent reviews. Let me start by saying that a raspado isn't hard to make, you just shave the ice and put some of the syrup or flavoring in it. I ordered a chamango raspado and it was all melted ice more like a slushy and there was hardly any mango flavor in it. Next, the elotes we ordered were canned yellow corn!?!! I was expecting to have some fresh white corn with all the toppings in the cup (they don't offer the corn on the cob). They could have at least bought some frozen white corn......Needless to say, I was very disappointed with my experience here, the two things I ordered were not authentic and not even tasty....and it was expensive for canned corn! read more

I USED to LOVE this place. I have noticed that the amount of meat in the chicken enchiladas is almost nada! The last time I was there I got three chicken enchiladas and took them home. I took out all of the chicken and weighed it on my food scale and the total of all of the chicken was LESS THAN ONE OUNCE! That's one third of an ounce per enchilada. I went to eat with my boyfriend, juice and smoothy were ok. I order a chicken guisado which was fine but my boyfriend order a nachos con carne asado and he took a bite and tasted bad, no flavour didnt taste fresh either and the chips were stale so we told the waitress that we didnt like it and we didnt want anything else. She didnt took the plate or came back after we had to tell another waitress to take the plate away and for our check. The receipt still had the plate we have returned so i went to the cashier to ask for them to take it out and they gave us a hard time saying that they had to charge it anyway.... I told them the dish was intact only one bite and just tasted bad and they came back with excuses. I have worked in a restaurant before were our first rule was the costumers are always right. I just felt angry and disappointed of the quality and most important the service. Don't go to this place and risk to not like it and get charge for it anyway. read more

I gave this one star, but for my part I would give this no stars. I went today to eat food and I went to order some huevos rancheros when the employee arrived with my food and that wasn't what I ordered. He told me that I ordered something else and he kept insisting that I ordered that ,he then yanks the plate out of my hand and gave me nasty attitude towards me. He then brought me my order but it looked as if he just poured some liquid over the eggs and I then asked him again that this is not how the order is supposed to be like he again gave me attitude and started acting really impatient towards me. I then proceed to talk to the owner and she was with the worst attitude instead of helping and understanding what was going on she started raising her voice towards me and also the employees were too. My wife and I had lunch, it was GREAT !!! This being our first time eating there, we really didn't know what to expect. The food was great, our drinks were also great. The staff was VERY friendly. The one waitress had offered to get me some chiles, since I had mentioned that that salsa/sauce wasn't spicy enough for my taste. Other places that I have been to, weren't as helpful. At the end of my meal I spoke to the manager and also learned more about this restaurant. This is definitely our new restaurant for GREAT Mexican food. Only one thing.......too bad there isn't one in Otay Ranch. But it is definitely worth the drive. read more

The weekend of March 29, 2014 we were in Chula Vista visiting family. they took us to Vanessa's for a chamango because we had never had one. We had the chamango smoothie - Oh My God I love chamangos!! Been on the hunt for a chamango in San Jose but can't find one comparable to Vanessa's. Here in San Jose they're called mangonadas and they are good, but not the same. If anyone know where I can find a chamango in San Jose please let me know! read more

Although the wait was a bit lengthy. I had the chile relleno and it's probably the best I've ever had. The cheese just flowed out right when I cut in, and it was a fatty! I really like their beans, not too thick. Their flautas were a bit disappointing. They looked and tasted like regular rolled tacos. Long story short delicious food service sucks .. They take forever on your drinks and your food and get the order wrong ... Tried a torta de lomo have tried strawberry raspado, pineapple raspado, crepes, blt(which they put avacado in), lemonade everything was delishhhhh. Its a lot of personnel for the lack of service. Very slow employees had to call the server every single time she didn't check up on us.. Server was very talkative with co-workers that when I asked her for a spoon after 2 times of telling her she got the spoon finished her conversation then gave me the spoon. Extremely disappointed with this deli!!! If you order a sandwich at a deli it should be fairly decent, do to the fact that they specialize in making sandwiches. In and out specializes in hamburgers, Starbucks specializes in coffee, and deli's specialize in sandwiches!!! I ordered a turkey sandwich to go. When I got back and opened it up I couldn't believe I was only given one slice of turkey, one slice of cheese, one slice of tomato, shredded lettuce, and mayo on sliced wheat bread. I wasn't even given the option of choosing the type of bread or any ingredients. The thing that really ticks me off is I paid over $8.00 for the sandwich and I tipped them $1.00 before I even knew what they had made for me. I do not recommend going here for a sandwich. Maybe they should drop the deli part and just be Vanessa's!!! Next time I'm going to The Home Depot, I bet they make better sandwiches there. read more
