I recently adopted a kitten from the Pasadena Humane Society and I received a voucher for a complimentary health screen at VCA. I will admit that I was a bit skeptical because I have had some negative experiences with veterinary services in the recent past. I recently lost my cat (she had lymphoma) and I feel like I have PTSD from the experience. I think I was jaded from the experience and I started to view animal hospital practices as predatory. I went into my VCA appointment with low expectations and I assumed that I would be charged for things that I didn't request. Boy was I wrong. My kitten received such amazing care and I truly felt that the vet tech and the vet treated my little guy as if he was their pet. Kathy (the vet tech) is a magical human being. She spent so much time with us and she was so patient. Dr. Howes is amazing. It is so obvious that she loves animals and she made the whole experience painless and stress-free. I was expecting the worst and I walked away feeling like I have found a place that I can trust. Thank you to the team at VCA in Pasadena! read more

TLDR: Review is solely for an incomprehensible scheduling system and being given conflicting information; I was not actually able to make an appointment with this office. I had reached out to them at the end of June to schedule an appointment for an international health certificate for my cat. Given my travel schedule and certificate requirements, I would need an appointment for early August. When I first called, they were very polite, took down my information, then told me that they would call me back within the next day or two once the appointments for August were "in the system." A week went by and I didn't hear back, so I called again and was told that the appointments for August were still not in the system and would probably not be until o/a July 28th - and to call back then. So basically you can only schedule a vet appointment a few days in advance?? Given the time sensitive nature of international travel with a pet, not having a guaranteed appointment time at least a few weeks in advance makes no sense whatsoever. I've been coming to Foothill vet for decades and value the service. Now that it has gone corporate, I notice upselling and it disappoints. My cat is an indoor cat, and when flea medicine was added to the cost assessment, I didn't get a straight answer about why she needed it. I wonder about fleas really being an issue for her allergy. She's an indoor cat. I've never seen fleas on her body. The answer I got was that even one flea could cause a reaction.... Also, I was instructed to get the cat on a Hills Science diet to see if she has a food allergy, and to order the food on the VCA website. Well, first, I didn't know which food was best but figured it must be the sensitive stomach and skin foods, and, second, I didn't know which flavor my cat would eat. You have to buy the product by the cases. Bad news if she didn't like what I ordered. This led me to discover that I could purchase Hills at Petsmart (and cheaper). I bought one can of each flavor available and learned that kitty had a preference. Now I know what to buy by the case. There are also other online pet food businesses that are cheaper than the VCA website. The vet could have advised me of this up front. Why didn't she? Hmmm. So sorry that these healers have to be hawkers as well. Are there any non-corporate Vet hospitals out there? Do they all hustle the clientele? read more

My little dog was sick, vomiting and not eating. I was worried because he's only 6 months and a 2 lb Yorkie. The wait was about an hour on a Saturday. If you are a first-time client, the initial fee is waived which was awesome. But the five star review really goes to our vet, Dr Mary Jo Andrews. She was nice, kind, patient and really took the time to rule out any other possibilities. She was honest with me and didn't try to make me get any treatments that my dog really didn't need. She gave my dog some liquids through injection and another to help with his upset stomach as well as some special food because he wasn't eating. She really took care of us in a way that you would hope every veternarian treats you and your loved little one. She was beyond amazing and really deserves vet of the year! The world needs more good people like her and after a few days my little Yorkie was fine! I highly recommend this Vet Hospital and Dr. Mary Jo Andrews in particular! :) read more

I was really surprised with this place being a VCA. Office staff is friendly which is so important! Dr. Mobley was very sweet. Chester wasn't pumped about seeing her and pretty much didn't cooperate with anything. That's my boy! I brought him back for his teeth cleaning 4 days later. Dr mobley called me twice to let me know how he was doing and even said he was a good boy, although I'm sure that was only after her was put under anesthesia. She sent him home with some before and after pics of his teeth and one of him in recovery. Very sweet touch. I'm so happy I found a nice vet! Thank you Dr mobley! *update.. I had a great experience today at VCA Foothill. Our regular vet was all booked up but they urged me to not wait until they could see my kitty Jamie as his issue could be serious, they recommended I try VCA Foothill for a walk-in appointment. I called ahead to get their Covid-19 protocols and arrived just as they reopened after lunch. Upon parking I called in to get on the wait list, the staff was friendly, competent and clear with their instructions. I was 5th in line and was advised my wait would be about 45 minutes. Jamie and I settled in, comfy and cozy in the car and were pleasantly surprised when we only had to wait 25 minutes! A tech came out in full PPE and picked Jamie up and took him inside to see the vet, I returned to my car. It was a little worrisome not going in to the vet with him, but the staff made me feel confident and in reality are pet parents really all that helpful? LOL. The vet, Dr. Kwan called me after about 5 minutes to confirm Jamie's symptoms and provided a full run down of his diagnosis, prognosis and treatment plan. I was impressed with the amount of time he spent with me on the phone. Afterwards a vet tech came on the line, asked if I was comfortable with the treatment plan and processed my payment over the phone. A short time later Jamie was returned to me, along with his medications, the tech explained how to administer them and off we went! This could not have been a better experience, vet visits are always stressful but add in the craziness of the whole Coronavirus quarantine and this could have been a nightmare, it was anything but. Update: I stopped bringing my pets here years ago but my husband liked the location and Dr Howes so he still brought his dog in regularly. We recently noticed that Duke ( normally 160 lbs) was lethargic and losing weight. He was having trouble " pooping" and cried in pain when we tried to lift his tail to examine " that area". My husband brought him in-$1800 in tests later, VCA's vet still had no clue what was wrong. They sent us to VCA Animal Specialty Group in Glendale- who also had no idea what was wrong. On advice of friends, we took Duke to a NON-VCA owned clinic and BINGO, they saw a huge abscess at the base of tail .( BTW at this point our dog's fever has risen up to 105 degrees!!!! Not good) The delay of days between the first visits to VCA and the non-VCA clinic could have made the situation life threatening. In fact Duke lost 10 lbs in just 4 days between visits to Foothill. Next time , we will go straight to the NON corporate owned clinic. Foothill used to have good vets ( Lippicott and Howes) but now it appears they employ young, inexperienced and foreign trained vets. read more

While we are all dealing with the difficulties of the Covid pandemic, we also lost our two dogs this year. VCA foothill veterinary Hospital has cared for our 4 dogs over the past 20 some years and are now taking care of our daughters dog. She is so pleased with the caring nature of this hospital that she drives 20 miles to bring her dog there. Unfortunately we are dogless and hopefully next year we will start bringing a new dog to these wonderful people. I cannot praise them enough for all the loving care that they have given to our dogs when they were healthy and when they were going through difficult times. Even when I, as an emergency physician, was sure that their diagnosis was wrong... They were right. I suppose wishful thinking on my part. A few months ago I had an emergency, my dog was bit by another dog while hiking, his ear was torn pretty badly. I called VCA, and was given immediate attention, they said to bring him right over. He was checked in right away, since it was during Covid-19, I wasn't able to enter with him, but felt safe with the staff, and their level of professionalism. Within an hour Dr.Sun called and went over treatment for him, she was super kind! And took great care of Ollie. I couldn't be more pleased with the results of his sutures. Today I needed to take my other pup in for an exam, and a minor infection. Signed in at 7:15, received a call within 30-40 minutes-not bad considering we are still in a pandemic. Once again I received treatment from Dr.Sun, she called me within an hour and discussed 2 options for treatment, again she was so pleasant and, and explained everything clearly. Their pricing is comparable to other animal hospitals, however for me the kindness and professionalism far exceeds other experiences I've had in the past. I am so happy to have found an excellent place to care for Ollie and Lola!!! read more

Once again, this place - part of America's largest for-profit veterinary hospital chain, a subsidiary of giant Mars Inc. candy behemoth - disappoints. My family has two dogs, one with epilepsy and another with a severe skin condition, who are treated regularly at several of VCA's very pricey clinics: VCA Foothill, VCA Animal Dermatology Clinic, VCA Animal Specialty Group, and VCA West LA Animal Hospital. We spent more than $5,000 at VCA's various divisions in just the past year alone. We have been told numerous times that all of these entities share records. This is one of the principal VCA marketing department's talking points. We were in Santa Barbara last weekend and our dog had raging diarrhea so we accessed the emergency room at VCA Animal Care Santa Barbara. They were wonderful, quickly dowloaded all of his records from other VCA clinics and hospitals, and prescribed Metronidazole. When it ran out and his diarrhea continued, we tried this morning to get it refilled at VCA Foothill, which is nominally our "regular" vet location. (A wonderful doctor there, Dr. Carrie Howes, has taken care of our dogs recently.) Not so wonderful the front desk at this place, however. They refused to look up our dog's recent prescription from their Santa Barbara "sibling" operation, claiming they "do not have access to records from other VCA" company divisions. So I called back to VCA Santa Barbara, where the receptionist told me this is false..... that the Santa Barbara hospital's records show my dog's emergency records were sent last week to Foothill. I called back to Foothill and - instead of checking on this - I received another earful about how they do not share records. Despite telling them my dog is out of his medicine and this is an emergency. As of this writing, we are still without his medicine, and my dog's diarrhea continues to rage. Bottom line: The medical staff here has been very good. The front desk folks, however, need to go through training in how this highly successful $2.1 billion company operates. Certainly they need to be trained in terms of VCA's policy of record sharing among in its "family" of 1,000 hospitals. And certainly they need to be trained in customer relations. Here is VCA's motto, which I would recommend they implement at Foothill: "Local Doctors, World-Class Care VCA is committed to continuously improving the standard of care for our hospitals and veterinary medicine as a whole through the compassionate, high-quality primary care that we provide at our nationwide family of over 1,000 hospitals." read more

I brought my cat Molly here on a very busy Saturday morning and was impressed with the efficiency of the staff given how busy they were. This is not my regular vet who was over booked until next week. The good news is that Molly checked out okay and was able to get her flea medication and a potential help with her constipation. I brought my both cat and dog (at different times) to VCA without an appt. They saw us very quickly and resolved the ailment. The doctors were very knowledgable and nice. Staff were as well. AND I want to thank them for helping me with a dying baby squirrel. My cat had caught the squirrel and severely injured it. I observed it for a while and realized it wasn't going to make it. I called VCA and they agreed to euthanize it at no cost. The poor thing was suffering and I was so thankful that they were compassionate. You are the best... thanks! read more

I'm still feeling emotional, I had to put the family cat of 19 years to sleep today. Lucky was in pain and seem to be suffering, she had been of the decline the last few months. I just want to say thank you so much for your kindness and compassion to the person who answered the phone this morning, the front desk and Dr Andrews. Thank you for not rushing things and give me time to say good bye to my pet. It really meant a lot to me! Lucky and my other 2 cats have been coming here for 6 years. I really like Dr Andrew! She has always given excellent care to all my pets, and is gentle and caring with my cats. When they are ill Dr Andrews give the correct diagnosis and treatment. The front desk people are professional, no matter how busy this place gets. I feel they are reasonably price and they always given my pets excellent care. read more

I have always had positive experiences here, I have taken multiple animals over the years, but today was the best thus far (hence why I'm finally writing a review). It's Covid, I have two human children (both boys, 6 year old with autism and 3 year old with energizer bunny energy) I have two fur children (a large dog and a fat cat) I am a single mom and it was dinner time. So let's just say things could have gone really badly. But they didn't, thanks to these people! I showed up with the fat cat and two kids in tow at 5:00 pm (we had an appointment that was made over a month ago and it was the soonest they could fit us in) for a feline physical exam to get a prescription refill. We had to wait until 5:45 to be seen, which could have majorly sucked but we were able to sit in the lobby by ourselves with cartoons on the tv AND they gave each kid a coloring book with crayons. They let the boys talk their ears off about anything and everything AND they gave our cat the royal treatment. Dr Loo is amazing, her staff is superb and the prices are reasonable. Brie, the fat cat, has kidney disease and has been on medicated food for almost two years, she is doing very well. Dr. Loo did not try to sell me in any additional treatment or tests, made me feel good about my pet parenting and involved the kids in the exam process. The six year old even knocked some shit over and she was super cool about it. Thanks, guys!!! I wish I knew everyone's name to shout out to, my bad for being too self involved at the time. read more

DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT take your pet here. VCA Foothill Veterinary Clinic is a shell of its former self and has gone from good to WORST veterinary clinic in Pasadena. For Foothill Veterinary Clinic, VCA stands for Vanishing Customer Accountability, Veterinary Care Avoidance, or possibly Veterinary Callous Apathy. Whatever the acronym, there is NO customer service from VCA Foothill Veterinary Clinic and VCA certainly does not stand for Veterinary Care for Animals. DO NOT sign up for puppy care or any other program they offer. Once you do, they know you are trapped in a payment plan and I believe they use this to reduce a miserable level of customer service to a non-existent level. VCA Foothill Veterinary Clinic advised me to wait until our dog was 7 months old before spaying her. When I called at 6 months to schedule the appointment, they initially said I would talk to the vet and schedule the surgery at the dog's scheduled vaccine appointment the following week. At that appointment I was told it was a technician appointment and someone would call me to schedule the spaying. There was no call and no response to my weekly calls for over 3 weeks. When I finally spoke with them in late July, the "first available appointment" was September 13th. At the end of August, my dog developed an eye infection. The "first available appointment" for this condition was more than two weeks after I called. Really? The person who told me this asked if I wanted to book the appointment. I told her that if my dog had an eye infection after two weeks there were likely to be more significant issues. I was then told that I had the option to call in daily and see if there was an open slot that day. Given the lack of timely appointments, I decided this would be unsuccessful and a waste of time. Unfortunately, my dog went into heat four days before her scheduled spaying. VCA Foothill Veterinary Clinic strongly recommended delaying the spaying for 4 to 6 weeks due to potential complications. No surprise, the spaying was rescheduled for just under six weeks from the initial date. So 6 or 7 months is now 10 months. More importantly, the dog is enduring discomfort that could have been avoided if VCA Foothill Veterinary Clinic provided any level of customer service in June/July. My advice to you is DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE. Something very bad has happened and VCA Foothill Veterinary Clinic has completely lost their way in terms of customer service - and no, the COVID-19 excuse doesn't fly. Since they are unable to provide service, perhaps they should not be accepting new patients (even from families like us that have been coming for 25 years) and instead recommend veterinary clinics that are able to provide timely care and customer service (preferably not VCA facilities). read more

I honestly would give 2 stars, but the hospital manager is really kind so I will leave the rating at 3 stars. I typically do not take my pets to VCA pet hospitals and I am a loyal client of Banfield on Foothill. However, I adopted a Husky pup from Pasadena Humane Society and was given a complimentary wellness check at VCA Foothill. From June until December of this year.... here is my overall experience of this location. I will start with the positives and work my way to the opportunities or concerns. Great people at this location: Trina, Lindsey, Dr. Kwan. The worst staff I have ever interacted with: Alyssa. I will share why.. Trina is the nicest person and will listen to all of your concerns along with building a personal relationship with clients. She has helped diffuse multiple customer service issues. She has personally assisted me to maintain a consistent experience. Lindsey is the office supervisor and is great with explaining the "why"s behind everything. She provided great customer service skills. Assisted me in weighing my dog so she can go home with flea preventatives. Thank you Trina and Lindsey along with Dr. Kwan for your assistance with my adopted puppy. She has grown a lot during the short amount I have had her and I am grateful that she has been flea-free during this pandemic! Alyssa. She shocks me every single time she is on the phone with me. Her service is disturbingly terrible. She's argumentative, confrontational, and not a problem solver. She gives attitude and tries to shut customers out along with giving them indirect unhelpful answers. As a business owner myself who has years of management experience, I would never allow this individual to work for me. I think she will drag the entire location down with her Bad mannerisms and she does not seem like an individual that can be coached. She has given me a hard time with my puppy multiple times. All I do at the location is drop her off for a weight check and then buy the flea preventative. Since my pup is growing, I had to come monthly to ensure proper dosage for flea preventatives. Alyssa has tried to double charge me, she then argued about how the miscommunication is due to this pandemic. I hate when anyone can't take responsibility or accountability for their own actions. She fails to properly explain anything to diffuse situations. She adds fuel to the fire Every Single Time. This time around, she suddenly shared that I cannot bring my pup in anymore until they have proof of her rabies shot in which... I have brought all her adoption paperwork to them since June. Alyssa has it out for me. She will definitely make your experience unbearable if you cross her even if you were just an innocent client. It's disgusting how she can't see past her own nose. Anyways... avoid Alyssa if you don't want to ruin your day. This location also only allows waitlists where you need to physically go sign up at 7 in the morning daily. It's a hassle....... worth it if you interact with friendly staff, maybe? read more

I used to love the treatment we got at VCA Foothill, but since the pandemic they have been very unreliable. It's basically impossible to get treatment--every time I show up, they have already taken all the patients they can for that morning or afternoon. Today I showed up just 10 minutes after their 7:30AM opening and they were already full. As a person that works full time, this has meant stretches of weeks where my pet needed care but I wasn't able to take off work to return for a 3rd or 4th try at getting care. Finally after today, when this last attempt at getting in to see someone was unsuccessful, I'll be switching vets permanently. I hope that one day post-pandemic they are able to return to reliable service for clients, but at least for now I'd save your time and go to a different vet. read more

We are bringing our newly adopted puppy Boba here as they have connections with the pasadena humane society. So far we have had a really good experience. It's walk in so the wait time varies. I came on a Monday morning and waited about 5 minutes but on Friday morning waited over 30 min. So far the experience has been great they are very attentive, answer all my questions and are also great over the phone. read more

Sunday evening, as my bf was rubbing his hand through Boss' neck, he felt a bump. I did a thorough search...and I find a tick. D: !!! UGH! Obviously vets aren't open on Sundays so I waited until Monday to get it removed. Called VCA to hear about their prices and the girl on the phone wasn't the most pleasant, but she gave me all the info I needed and on I went. Since it was my first time there, I was able to get a free checkup which included the removing of the tick. Inside is very "homey" and there were a few people waiting. Luckily, it went by pretty fast and within 15 minutes, I was in one of the rooms talking to the vet. I didn't get her name, but she was VERY nice, answered all the questions I had and took out Boss' tick right away. She put it in a little container with alcohol and told me I could keep it if I wanted to. I see enough ticks from my students at work, so..I passed lol. I also got some flea and tick medication for Boss and it was a great deal! A great experience overall. read more

The down side - long wait time and...one vet, a female put a muzzle on my dog in the harshest way possible. Puppins was a nipper when he was younger, but rarely now. If a doctor or staff request the muzzle, they usually have me do it, but she showed no care or consideration - pulled it on him very tightly and aggressively. The other reason for no 5 star, is on one occasion, a vet tech dragged him across the floor on his way for a shot :( read more

It's misleading that this place was purchased by VCA in December 2012 and 8 months later, that fact is still not posted anywhere outside the building. The only reason I found out was in the examination room, all the business cards say VCA on them. Not in a million years did I want my cats to be treated at any VCA facility for any reason. Not after my experience a few years ago at the Santa Monica VCA when I took my cat in to find out why he was vomiting so much......$600 later, after some troubleshooting, they still didn't know what was wrong with him. The charges were NOT pre-approved by me. The vet simply performed all the diagnostics, and then said she didn't know what was wrong, and gave me the fat bill. Thanks for nothing VCA. It was a rude awakening for me -- some vets WILL take advantage of your love and concern for your pets. NOT knowing that Foothill Animal Hospital was now VCA Foothill, we took our cat in to see why he had trouble peeing. The vet said she wanted to take him in the back just to weigh him. When she came back, not only did she weigh him, she also extracted a urine sample for urinalysis ($39.50), and performed an ultrasound ($49.80). The first thing she said was that he needed surgery because she believed she saw stones in his bladder. There was blood in the urine and he was in pain. He needed the surgery immediately. Not only was this an emotional punch in the gut, we felt totally misled. She said she was only going to weigh him. We had expected to pay only $55 for the office visit, instead the bill came to $287 with the added diagnostics that WERE NOT pre-approved plus meds. It's the same thing that happened to us at VCA Santa Monica, and it was happening again. Don't get me wrong, I probably would have approved the urinalysis and ultrasound. But I WANT TO BE TOLD about the charges first! When is VCA going to get it . . . you simply CANNOT perform whatever diagnostics you wish on our pets. Unless it's FREE, YOU NEED TO ASK FIRST. SIDE NOTE - you guys need to start taking reservations. The waiting area was FULL OF PETS, children, and parents. Some dog peed in the back of the room, who knows how long it had been there. It was loud, stinky, and stressful. read more

Very caring vets and excellent service. I brought my dog in here for the first time because we couldn't get in to see our regular vet. They don't take appointments here but they will see you if you come in same day. The vet we saw was very kind, and we even got a follow up phone call from them a week later asking how my dog was doing. Unfortunately we did end up putting my dog down (he was a 12 yr old Doberman), he wasn't able to walk or get up anymore. After they found out we put him down, we got a kind, hand written card from the staff. All this after only going there once! I will be taking my other dogd here from now on. read more

I will start my story on July 3, 2008. I found a tiny baby cat on the verge of death outside my house. In fact, when he saw me, he ran to me crying and it was almost as if he was begging for help. He had crusty eyes, and his breaths were fast and shallow. He was in bad shape. I took him to the humane society in Pasadena where I was told he would be put down due to his size. That definitely didn't sound very humane to me, so I left with him hoping a doctor could fix him. I took him to 4 different places and every one of them turned him away saying they were booked solid. Feeling rather hopeless, the receptionist at Whiskers to Tails told me about FVH. Bless her for being a cat lover! When I got here, the waiting room was full or people and animals, but I was immediately called into a room and seen by a doctor. The doctor was so gentle and loving and spoke to the kitty in a soft voice. He gave the cat fluids, antibiotics, a little pet, and sent us on our way. And as an added bonus to their awesomeness, he didn't charge me for the office visit. :) Today the cat is healthy, happy, and a huge part of our family. :) That brings me to today. I have another cat that I've had for 14 years. Last night I noticed a huge welt on her backside. She was licking it and it looked like a fresh wound. She didn't seem to be in pain, so I waited till today to take her in. I was seen (without an appointment) within 5 minutes of my arrival. We were seen by Dr. Howes, and I must say she was the nicest, most loving vet I've ever encountered. You can tell she really loves animals, and does this job with everything she's got. She explained exactly what happened (ruptured gland) and how to care for the injury and my cat. She was very sweet and my cat was immediately comfortable with the Doctor touching her. I can't say enough wonderful things about everyone I've encountered here. They seem to really care about our pets and do their best to put them at ease. read more

I brought my cats here when it was known as Foothill Vet Hospital. I had just adopted a cat from the shelter and this place was on their list that offered free first exams. Pros: offers walk-ins Cons: walk-ins only; I thought walk-ins were good as most vets are by appt only. It turned out to be a very long wait. I've had to wait 1 to 2 hours. Office staff: Sounded pleasant on the phone. I had told them I think my cat has URI because of a runny eye. She did not know what URI was and I feel that working in a vet office, the staff should be more educated in common conditions. The vet and techs seemed nice when we got into the exam room finally. I told the vet I just wanted an exam and it just seemed like she patted the cat on the head and the side, a few strokes and that was it. She did not even weigh her. I asked if she thought she was healthy and she says she could not see anything wrong. I asked if she was sure and if she could take a look in her eyes and she said again they look fine. Then I ask again, you think her left eye looks fine? She says yes. And I ask, you think the clear discharge coming out of her eye is normal. Then finally, she goes 'ooh, let me have a look'. I thought she would come up with some possible conditions, but instead she stained the eye (she did not tell me this would be $32.25 with a drop of green dye) and said it didn't show anything. She recommended medication that 'may or may not clear the eye' and that she may or may not have URI. I could have come to the same conclusion myself. The vet is not helpful and very careless about what was supposed to be a thorough exam. I felt like all I did was bring my cat for her to pet. The vet and staff are also not very good about disclosing accurate prices of services. They always look pissed off when you ask them the cost of vaccines and things. They tell you one thing in the exam room and when you are ready to pay, the bill always turns out to be two times more than they said it would be. They might be under a new name and management now, but these are things to watch out for! read more

the 5 stars is for Dr. Howes. if you have a cat and love them, take them to her because she will show your cat the same amount of love as you! i have had bad experiences with other vets in the hospital as well and reading the other reviews, i do agree that Dr. O'Dwyer probably doesn't like cats because the 2 times that she saw my cat, she was cold and didn't seem to know what she was talking about. When my sister took my cat in and I found out that Dr. O'Dwyer had looked over her, I immediately called the veterinary hospital and told them that I wanted the care switched over to Dr. Howes. I am so grateful that I was able to take my cat to her. Dr. Howes is definitely a doctor who went in to the job because she loves animals and not because of anything else. Even when it was time to put my cat to sleep, Dr. Howes was extremely sympathetic as was the rest of the staff. They were very caring and even sent me a card afterwards. The receptionists are always friendly when I went in. They are super busy so you have to cut them a bit of slack when you need to wait. There is only so much they can do. Overall, I liked this place, and if I ever get another cat... I will definitely take them to see Dr. Howes and the friendly receptionist staff. read more

I am so done with this place, they keep raising their fees. They told me it was because of the economy and soaring gas prices. That is such BS. They went from $30 to $55 just to see the doctor! They also charged me $37 for a fecal exam not counting the meds. The staff is very nice, but I think this business is taking advantage of people. I get a sense that they only want to draw rich people. I can't say enough good things about a few of the doctors, they are new and seem to really enjoy my dog. However, Dr. Bell is sort of cold and doesn't spend much time with the dog. I think I can do better, but too bad because we have been taking our pets here for years. Dental Health in February went without a hitch! I got a discount since it's dental month. I was a bit nervous about bringing my pup in for a cleaning because you just never know... But! There was no need to be nervous. My boy was in good hands. I brought him in the morning to drop off and we met with Dr. Beyer one more time before the procedure. As soon as I got to work one hour later, I got a call from Dr. Beyer updating me on my puppy's dental cleaning. She said he did very well and was already up and playing around. My puppy's breath has improved dramatically and I can't thank Dr. Beyer enough. read more

Client beware! Foothill is purposely withholding vital information that they have been bought out by VCA (corporation veterinary company). It is quite a shame, really. As one of the well-known "family owned" veterinary practices that have been a staple in Pasadena for so many decades... and to be bought out by a corporation that treats clients as an assembly line is highly-disappointing. I believe the only saving grace for the place now is that they hopefully keep the same staff. Given I've dealt with a VCA hospital in the past, I'm scared for what may happen. I really want to thank Dr. Lippincott for the time that my mom and I brought in our dog that was diagnosed with an aggressive osteosarcoma from Animal Specialty Group. Our regular veterinarian was unavailable that day that we needed help. Lippincott was grateful to usher us in an exam room very quickly during a busy time so we were not sitting in a full waiting room with a dying dog that ultimately ended up being euthanized. Knowing that the hospital was super busy, we were never hurried during the process and saying our goodbyes. We appreciate the compassion all-around. This hospital is clean, fully-staffed, helpful, and a pleasure to deal with otherwise. I regretfully will not support them any longer knowing about the change. I'm only rating today's experience with 2 stars. I've been coming to Foothill for about 5 yrs and great experiences with all of the Dr's. However today Dr. Lipencott treated my Cat (something very minor) and additionally took it upon himself to trim her nails and tell me after. I do trim her front nails on a regular basis and will start trimming the back as she is an indoor Cat. My point is he didn't ask me to trim or inform me of the charge and then started looking for other "sales" he could make. Food, shots, and that seemed to be is focus. I've recommended others to Foothill but after todays visit I might think twice before I do it again. read more

I have been very pleased with Foothill. My first visit there was one of the saddest days of my life, when I had to put down my cat of twenty years. Dr. Mo was kind and compassionate and did NOT charge me a dime. Around the same time as this happened, a friend of mine, in another part of the country, paid $341 for the same services I got for free. Because of that kindness I was shown, I have regularly taken my new cat to Foothill. i love not having to make an appointment because it affords me so much more flexibility with my schedule. I want to thank Dr. Sun and all the staff at VCA Foothill. They are professional, helpful and caring. I took my cat in because she was having trouble breathing. I went on a Saturday morning at around 6:45 am to put my name down. I was the 6th in line. The staff put out a sign-in sheet around 7:30 am. I got a call around 8 from a staff and she went through the check-in process with me. Right after I dropped off my cat, they checked her and called me immediately to let me know about her conditions and what treatments they're going to give her. Dr. Sun is very knowledgeable and patient. She called me several time that day to explain and update my cat's status to me. My cat hates taking medicine. Dr. Sun and the staff helped me get the medication compounded with chicken flavor. I have been to several veterinary hospitals around San Gabriel Valley. I would say VCA Foothill is the most efficient and professional vet that I have ever been to. It's even more impressive that they are doing such a good job with attentive and caring attitude! read more

I've been taking my dog here for years, and even boarding her here. But the last time was my last time. I boarded my small and very excitable Yorkie for 7 days. One day after picking her up, I found blood in her stool. The next day, I woke up and found pools of blood everywhere. She was bleeding internally, as well as her gums, her rectum, etc! I immediately took her to VCA and they were very quick to deny it had anything to do with the boarding. I can't say with any certainty that it was the conditions there. However, she's never had any major health issues, and now she has an autoimmune disease (that could have been brought on by stress, trauma)! Like I said, my dog never had any other issues. I wonder if the environment there stressed her out. Needless to say, I won't ever board her there again. I also won't be boarding her in a "hospital" where she has contact with other sick pets. read more

Great place. While I might not want to be locked in a stuck elevator for 2 hours w/ the women behind the counter, the doctors we've used here are great! I know how emotionally stressful dealing w/ a sick pet can be but, if you're an adult you really can't expect anyone else, especially those whose business is sick pets, to be as invested as you are. Dr. Andrews helped me through my cat's chest tumor which finally forced us to put her down. Dr. A didn't try to sell any pointless surgeries or anything else that would have just prolonged the inevitable. (I did experience this with another vet when one of my dogs had cancer and, one week and $7,000 later, he had to be put down anyway.) So I really appreciated the honesty and the compassion with which it was delivered. We met Dr. Bell when our dog decided to eat a pound of chocolate on Valentine's Day. He handled it beautifully and, for what I thought was a very fair price, got our pooch to up-chuck it all. No clinic is going to bat 1000 -- human or animal -- but so far Foothill is doing it for me! read more
