I recently visited The Velvet Pig and had a mixed experience. The food had really good flavor overall, but it came out warm instead of hot, which was a bit disappointing. For the price, I expected a little more in terms of quality and presentation, as it felt slightly overpriced. That said, the building itself is super cool it's set in an old ice house, which gives the place a unique and interesting vibe. The atmosphere alone makes it worth checking out at least once. Overall, not a bad spot, but there's definitely some room for improvement. We had the pork belly and a sandwich off the menu.

    Cool bar.

This little restaurant is tucked inside Ice Box, the former ice factory turned bar. It's in the back. Great reviews online and great food!! My wife had the blackened chicken Caesar salad salad and I had the sandwich they called Chopped, which is chopped ground beef, some lettuce, mayo, and I had them put mustard on it instead of ketchup. It was excellent! We both very much enjoyed our meals. We would absolutely return.

Super cool spot inside The Ice Box. Steady lunch business. Very pleasant, not loud! Counter service and they bring you your food. Very casual but friendly. The catfish is dusted with curry powder and served with a lemon herb tartar sauce that is out of this world. Who thought of that?! Perfection. Boudin eggrolls were tasty and the mustard served with them is bangin'. Everything is well seasoned. The pork and collard sandwich was just ok - something about the aioli and havarti made it a little "cream cheese spinach dip-y." Can't wait to go back!

Yelp! I knew I would love this food when I walked in and they had blasting, "Hate it, or love it", 50 Cent! Love that song. This place is eclectic with one side a bar, the middle a game room and the food ordering source tucked over in a corner. We are in Mobile and grabbing food before we return to the hotel. VP is clearly a "hangout" spot and Bae just don't hangout. So we grab the food and go. MAN THIS FOOD! If you can get past this ambiance, these are some of the best greens, cornbread, wings, and ribs I have tasted. This stuff here good. But, this cornbread, looks can be deceiving, this stuff here is their GOAT! I definitely wanna come back.

Cute place great outdoor area we came early just when they were opening for lunch. The kitchen menu is insane. Everything was so good. I wanted to order everything but we definitely ordered at least half of the menu. Don't miss the chopped cheese or those meatballs if they have them again don't walk run and head to the velvet pig.

The best burger during Mobtown Burger week! Located inside the Ice Box - just a small order window by the bar, but you can tell how much heart they put into their food! We walked into the front door where there is a bar with lots of people watching football. Behind this bar is a large lounge/hangar area with a bar, pool table and comfy places to sit. This is the home for the small but mighty Velvet Pig. With drinks in hand from the front bar, we ordered our burger with a side of honey buffalo wings. Those wings - so tangy, sweet and juicy! The burger was perfect, with toasted bun, creamy key lime aioli and sweet/salty bacon jam. Every bite was perfection and out of the 4 burgers we managed to try this weekend, was by far the best. Another spot we would be regulars at if we lived in Mobile. Great beer selection also and their outside space is very chill. Such a unique and fun place! Next time around we will make this our first spot and come with a full appetite.

On the way from NoLa to Atlanta, we made a quick stop in Mobile and were looking for a good spot for lunch. This was the top restaurant on Yelp in Mobile so we checked it out. We got the smash burger and Alabama hot fried chicken sandwich as well as the Boudin egg rolls. My husband liked the fried chicken sandwich but didn't love it. I, on the other hand, loved the smash burger especially the bacon jam! The surprise was the boudin egg rolls!! Now, the space: it's so beautiful! It would be a good spot to just hang out and relax. Note: you order at the counter then you pick your seat. Velvet Pig is inside a bar so you might think you're at the wrong place when you go here for the first time.

    Neat bar with pool table.

Really cool place with a unique vibe. Downtown Mobile hangout bar. With great food and service.

Shaved ribeye on 2 skewers was definitely worth having. Moist and meaty, perfectly grilled at medium-rare.

I arrived at my hotel, I was tired, and just wanted a bite that wasn't a. fast food or b. catered to tourists. Debris delivered and then some. First, it's my type of place: dive bar with tables. Not all over-decorated. The moment you walk in, you feel like you're in a local tavern. No one was at the door but they saw me and just let me take a seat. The menu came over, the table was a little sticky, and they came and wiped it even though I said not to bother, I'm fine. The menu: Drinks are a bit limited. Good selection of bottles, rather limited on tap, but I found a good brew. And for food, you can't go wrong. Obviously, with the name, I chose a Po Boy - the standard Debris with the beef and au jus. I wish I could give more than 5 stars for that elegantly massive hulk. Dripping in its jus, which I still sopped up off my plate. Oh, I could easily eat a second one of those no matter how full I am. Sinfully good. I wish my conference didn't feed me so much, or I would have come back here every night. I did my best to recommend it to everyone else who was looking for lunch or dinner. And I am 100% recommending it to you.

The pork was seasoned right, and everything worked together the way it should. But honestly, the bread is what sold me. They make it fresh in-house, and you can tell. It's light, airy, with just the right bite--exactly what a banh mi is supposed to be. The spot itself is small, but clean and well kept. It's more of a walk-up-and-order setup, not a sit-down-with-a-server kind of place, which I actually don't mind for this style of food. Just know what you're walking into. Drinks are grab-and-go from a cooler--sodas, water, tea--so don't expect fountain drinks or freshly brewed sweet tea. That said, they do have some interesting specialty drinks on the menu like fresh sugar cane with durian and kumquat, which I'll probably try next time just out of curiosity. great food, solid spot, and absolutely worth the stop. 10/10 -- We'll definitely be back!…read more My husband and I don't eat pork, so we were excited to try the Muffanotta, and it absolutely exceeded our expectations. It was delicious and made with some of the best bread I've ever tasted. I also ordered a bowl of chili, which was hearty, flavorful, and generously packed with beef. We're not usually soda drinkers, but we decided to try the house-made root beer, served in a frosted glass. It was incredible--rich, refreshing, and unlike any root beer we've had before. The kind gentleman who took our order was genuinely delighted to see how much we enjoyed everything and even surprised us with a second root beer on the house, which was such a thoughtful touch. The little market was another highlight. It was filled with unique, wholesome products, many of which are sourced from the community's farms and workshops around the country and the world. It made for a fun and interesting shopping experience. And whatever you do, don't leave without trying the sweet potato pound cake. It was easily one of the most delicious desserts I've ever had--moist, rich, and completely unforgettable. Between the outstanding food, warm hospitality, and unique atmosphere, this was a wonderful experience from start to finish. Highly recommended!

Our query for a seafood restaurant led us here, and at first glance almost decided to leave. The seating was minimal and we had to walk up to the counter to order. While waiting, we realized it is primarily a seafood market and take-out orders for cooked food were the main business. But the reviews were great, so we gave it a try. We were amazed at the quality and quantity of food we got. An order of crab claws and shrimp came with over 40 claws and about ten shrimp, all fried to perfection with the best tasting breading ever!
