I come here for the breakfast burritos. Top 5 of my all-time favorite breakfast burritos worldwide. I like to get it with bacon and extra tomatillo salsa, which cuts through the richness and takes it from good to great. However, it pains me to say that the quality of the breakfast burrito has plummeted in the pat 6 months. The quality of the breakfast burrito has become inconsistent. I suspect that due to the entree's popularity, they have changed how they are prepared. Whereas they used to taste like they were made fresh, the last 5 or 6 times I've gone for breakfast, the burrito has arrived molten-hot in the middle, with a brown, crispy, over-cooked to the point of crunchy, flour tortilla. I think maybe they are sitting in an oven or something, awaiting my order. The green tomatillo salsa that I am obsessed with also hasn't tasted fresh. Usually when it's fresh, it arrives served in a steel 2oz cup. Lately it's been arriving in a plastic container that's been sitting in the fridge for a while. I can totally tell the difference! I'm hoping they read this and get their stuff together. Take the burrito off of the menu if you can't do it right. A couple of other thoughts on Barrio - service is very slow when there is a line. The person taking orders also does a couple of other jobs, so if you are in line to order and there are more than two people ahead of you, brace yourself to wait a long time. Oh, and the self-serve coffee carafe has a sign on it that says "no free refills." Seems stingy. I would prefer it to say "50 cent refills" instead. Anyway, if there's a line, you probably don't want to wait 7 minutes to find out how much they actually charge for refills. This is a harsh review because I love Barrio. I really want them to succeed but some things have changed for the worse in 2023. read more

I am super impressed and happy about this place and will throw my full support their way because this place must succeed if we have any standards for good coffee places. Reading other reviews, I was reluctant and did not think I would like it. But it's a day off from school so my son and I gave it a try. First of all, it's charming inside. Great vibe. This place has a full kitchen and it is used to make their own baked creations! We tried just one- the almond croissant and it was wonderful. I do not know their brand of coffee but it was excellent. I got a macchiato and the barista made it perfectly. My son got hot chocolate and I am thrilled to say they have real whipped cream!!! The proprietors clearly know what they are doing and have high standards. The 2 men who helped us were friendly and efficient. I look forward to going next time and enjoying our drinks and food there and sampling more goodies. read more

This place has the best matcha latte I have ever had! I'd had Barrio on my Yelp bookmarks list for a while and finally made my way over here as I was in the area on my way to work. I wasn't sure what to order, but tried the matcha iced latte and the matcha flavor was on point! Some places skimp on the amount of matcha they put in their drinks and it comes out tasting too subtle. Here, I was in matcha heaven, with each sip providing bursts of matcha on my tongue. The service is friendly here, and they were patient as I looked at their menu and decided what to order. I took my drink to go, but the vibe inside is very laid-back and I could see myself relaxing here on the weekend. 5 stars for service, quality and atmosphere, I'll be back. read more

I've been coming here for a few weeks now. I was hesitant to write a review as I thought I was just having a negative experience with one barista. However, today I encountered major attitude and a sense of entitlement from another barista as well. I order the same thing everyday. Iced chocolate milk. I had asked the young lady to pour the hot chocolate over the ice then add the milk. Simple enough? Today the girl chucked the ice in the trash with attitude and still made it her way. She rolled her eyes and looked at another employee with frustration. The other barista that I asked to steam my milk to 175° tried to educate me on why she couldn't. I explained to her that my mochas always come out warm, I like them extra hot. Mind you I worked as a barista through my twenties. She too gave me major attitude and responded "yep" when I thanked her for my drink. I have been leaving there upset and a bit angry after my encounters. It is unfortunate because I like their drinks. However, due to the unprofessionlism I think I am just going to make my drinks at home from now on. I do not need to start my day absorbing their negative energies. read more

Went on a Sunday morning when it was not too busy but there were a handful of customers. The restaurant itself is nice. I ordered a "closed bagel" BLT but the bagels were extremely hard which caused my jaw to click at my attempt to bite into it and couldn't even eat the sandwich. The mango ice tea tastes nothing of mango. My boyfriend enjoyed his iced mocha and bagel for the most part but it wasn't worth the price. 2 bagels, 2 drinks the size of a standard soda can for $46 dollars. Lesson learned. read more

When it was Barrios , you could walk in at 12 noon and there would be an incredible selection of items for lunch and not today and not a couple weeks ago either.. a few empanadas and some croissants were left and it was noon time. The place was empty, which is an indicator of how bad it's gotten because when it was Barrios, you would walk in at noon time and it would be packed. Bring back the old lunch menu where they had the best quiche you could buy anywhere, and of course, there were chocolate chip cookies with the sea salt on them and a variety of empanadas not 2 kinds. This hidden coffee shop/cafe is such a find. It has a steady flow of customers which is a testament of the great food and drinks served. To drink I had an iced Carmelita which is creamy and just the right sweetness. To eat I had a slice of bacon & spinach quiche which came with a side salad for only $9. Everything was so yummy! This is not the cool, neighborhood, artsy coffee shop it is attempting to be. The corner with a stack of beat up old vinyls doesn't mask the grossness of this place. If the front of the house is this nasty, we can only imagine what the kitchen looks like. Yikes. If you're an adult with a steady income, this is not the place for you. I really love having a high quality, friendly, and cozy coffee shop in the neighborhood! The women on staff are always so friendly and patient even when I'm asking multiple questions about food/drinks. The food and drinks sold here have always been tasty and worth the price. That cinnamon roll croissant aka "the best thing ever" really lives up to that name! It is really rich and decadent so I usually split it with a friend. This is for the too good to go app. The pastries I was given wasn't great. They gave me cold pastries from the fridge that were probably a day old. For peets too good to go they give you fresh pastries they have at the moment. Not something they fridged from the day before. And what I got was 2 chocolate cinnamon rolls and a regular croissant. The choc cinnamon roll was not good bc it wasn't fresh from the day. It was hard and dry. read more

Let's first say I use to be a waiter and a bartender. I understand bad service, mediocre service, decent service and excellent service. I want to start by saying the food is great!.... And that's about it. The service is horrible. The young (20 something year olds) are lost with little hope of finding their way. The cashier will take your order, but then If someone's order is ready.... They will leave the cash register area. They will excuse themselves, but then go get the order, walk around to find the person who's order it belongs to.... And then come back to the register. This happens every single time an order is ready. The last 3 times I've been here there has been an issue. 1st time the cashier got the order wrong, even after I repeated it to her just to make sure she got it right.... Nope, she didn't get it right, perhaps because she was talking to her co-workers and not paying attention. 2nd time we ordered 2 pastries, 2 americanos, and 2 sandwiches....... Sandwiches came, but nothing else. 15 minutes go by.... And I ask about our pastries and coffee. They apologize very nicely and say that they will get it. Well eventually the coffees came, but not the way we ordered them..... And still waiting on the pastries. Another 8-10 minutes go by and I have to ask about our pastries again. The pastries eventually came. 25-30 minutes for coffee, pastries and sandwiches. 3rd time (most recent) we ordered 2 Americans, 2 pastries and 1 sandwich. I repeated my order to the cashier.... She said yes, got it. But then the total didn't seem right. So I asked her to repeat what my order was..... she didn't have it right. Yet again, the cashier just can't seem to get orders right. Once we paid we got the pastries right away. The trick is to have them give it to you right there. Don't get it warmed up, it might get lost along the way. So we got our pastries, and then the sandwich came out pretty quick..... but where are the americanos? I waited for a few minutes, but when I saw the person behind me get his drink order before me, that's when I went up to the barista and asked, excuse me, I ordered before him. Are the americanos ready....... She looked me dead in the eye and said..... oh, I don't think I have your order here..... I then told her what the order was and she looked lost. Deer in headlights kind of lost (if that makes sense). She offered to make them, but I didn't understand why she didn't have my order since the register is physically 3 feet from the cash register. How and when did my order for 2 americanos get lost? Meanwhile, one of the workers was walking around with 2 americanos. She didn't know who they were for, and then came back to the barista and said, who are these for? She asked the barista if they were mine, the barista said no, I'm gonna make his right now. Then the worker said, the order says table 24, who's 24? Lol, yep, that was mine. But the barista hadn't a clue... the drinks were just sitting there until the worker saw them and decided to take them to a table (which she couldn't seem to find.... My table). I finally got my americanos...... finally. While this was going on there was a couple that had ordered before us. Their drink order came out wrong and their food came out after ours...... didn't make any sense since they ordered before us. While we were waiting we saw this unfold. When the customer politely asked where his food was.... They didn't seem to know where his order was or what he ordered. It took a while, but the couple eventually got their order while we were leaving. The workers are very polite, however their politeness doesn't excuse their continued horrible service. Saying sorry after waiting 30 minutes for drinks and then the order is wrong doesn't make it right. The workers don't seem to know or have the skill set to correct any customer service issues. Lol, this stuff isn't made up, it actually happened. Truth is stranger than fiction, right! We love the food and overall environment of Barrio.... But the service is horrible and the workers don't seem to have a clue of what is going on. No communication between co-workers among other things is killing the service at Barrio. It's sad because we want to support a small local business. We won't be going back to Barrio for some time and I truly hope they get this shit together before it really hurts the business and all we are left with is large chains. read more

I like to try out different coffee shops to work and this one is perfect. It is not so busy during the weekday, lots of tables (indoor and outdoor, WiFi is good, and not hard to find unused outlets. I want to start off by saying that I really liked the ambiance, the cute tables outside with plants, and a really cool cat plus they had live music which I think is great. They had a very extensive menu so there's a lot to choose from. I asked if the Horchata was homemade and a random guy behind the bar who wasn't helping laughed at me. Not sure why, but it's not; it's a cinnamon latte. I ordered the honey lavender latte which was really good, and a chorizo burrito. I was asked if I wanted that warmed up which set off a ton of questions in my head about freshness. The burrito was indeed hot on the outside but cold towards the middle and it lack substance. Too much cheese, they need rice as a filler. The latte has a good sweet flavor, the milk was a little over steamed, but it's not a deal breaker. Over all, very tasty. Came here for the first time last weekend for breakfast and loved it! Line moved quickly and staff was welcoming and helpful. Ordered their quiche, bagel, and breakfast burrito between the two of us. The quiche and breakfast burrito were home runs. Probably the best quiche I have - savory filler with a buttery/toasty crust. Burrito had your traditional favorites (eggs, bacon, potatoes, etc.) but was seared in a panini grill for texture. Topped it with their green salsa which shockingly had a kick to it. Had their nitro coffee with the condensed milk (Vietnamese style). I would get their coffee again! High recommendation for a relaxing breakfast. read more

And we love their empanadas........ my criticism is that the least 3 times I've come in, they have gotten my orders wrong. They don't listen. The first time I asked for a cardamom latte and got lavender. The second time I asked for cardamom and got caramel. This time I got cardamom but I asked for 2 mushroom empanadas and 1 samosa and I got 2 samosa and 1 mushroom. I asked for 2 pumpkin bread and got 1. UNFORTUNATELY NOT A GOOD REVIEW! I have frequentwd this establishment over the last year and prefer supporting locally owned small businesses. Yesterday I went by to purchase some baked items. Two male customers at the counter, one (white male) not wearing a mask were waited on and rung up. No comment was made to the man wearing no mask. The lady in front of me stepped to the counter while I waited outside the door. A staff member looked at me and said, "Excuse me do you have a mask please?" My response was I did but I wasn't even inside yet. I'm fully vaccinated, I'm pro caution and pro mask indoors. But I think there was definitely bias in enforcement. A white male with no mask comes in, nothing said to him. Myself a man of color pulls up on his motorcycle wearing my biking gear is asked to put a mask on before I even enter! The next day I spoke with a woman who said she was the owner. I expressed my concerns about biased enforcement of policy and how I felt I was profiled. Her response was she didn't feel it was profiling and that busy days workers can get distracted and not realize someone doesn't have a mask on. I pointed out there was no distraction from a distance, this customer was directly in front of the staff at the register. The woman who identified herself as owner, was not shocked, showed no empathy, no interest in amending, didn't say she'd talk to her staff about it... her whole response was about excuses. I want so badly to like this place; it is my neighborhood coffeshop cafe and has most of the riight fundamentals (good coffee, baked goods, ambiance), but the service and food prep are so spotty that I end up disappointed more often than not. I used to enjoy the breakfast sandwiches, but multiple times the tomato slices were hard and pale and badly under-ripe, one of which also contained a piece of the stem, which is inedible. They regularly forget to include the side salad when I order quiche, and have even acted put-off when I asked if it was supposed to have one (as it says on the board). One morning it took about 20 minutes for them to produce a breakfast sandwich when there was almost no one else there, and after I asked about it it came out in just over the amount of time it takes to make it (they pretty clearly forgot, or the order only made it to the back after I asked about it, ~15 minutes after ordering). The kicker was today when I stopped in on the way to work. I only stopped because I could see it wasn't busy. I was the only customer in line and the cashier was busy talking to another customer who was sitting at the bar drinking coffee, who eventually prompted the cashier to take my order. I decided to get a slice of quiche with my coffee, since it takes less than a minute to heat it in the microwave and put it in a box with the salad. I asked him when I ordered, "It comes with a side salad, right?" and it was clearly a necessary reminder because he was like, "Oh, yeah... it does" as though he had forgotten or didn't know. While making my drink the cashier resumed his conversation, and after he gave it to me I stood at the register waiting for him to get the quiche, but felt awkward interrupting his conversation to ask for it. Eventually he looked at me and said the quiche was being heated up, which I knew wasn't true because it was still sitting in the display case and no one had touched it. I looked at him incredulously and he paused his conversation to look in the back, realized no one had done anything with the quiche, and then took it to put a slice in the microwave, seemingly with no shame at all, and then resumed his conversation. When it was brought out I asked for a plastic fork and the woman who handed me the box was not sure if there were any, and directed me to a place where she thought there might be some. In all I probably waited about 5 minutes longer than necessary and ended up 2 minutes late to work. Thanks. If the owners cared a little more about how their employees do their job I'm sure a lot more people would be happy to patronize their business, they would make more money, and I would have a coffeeshop cafe in my neighborhood that I enjoy visiting on a regular basis. read more

I saw this location on instagram and told my husband I wanted to check it out. It's not too far from home about a 15 minute drive. My husband ordered the veggie burrito with green salsa and sour cream with a Vietnamese iced coffee I had the cinnamon roll croissant with hot black coffee the service here is pleasant very friend and helpful with personal favorite suggestions. Every time I go here, I say I'll never be back. I have never once had my order be correct. Last visit about a month ago, I waited 25 minutes for a vegetarian breakfast burrito only to get home and realize there was bacon in it. Today, I ordered an iced coffee with cream and received an iced coffee with caramel. The almond croissant is a regular croissant with a lazy stripe of almond flavoring inside. It feels like this place really cuts corners with staffing, food, etc. I keep coming back because it's the closest coffee shop to my house, but today every element of my order was incorrect; I don't think I'll be back (I mean it this time!). read more

I ordered a lox sandwich and the bagel was stale. If you toast bread it shouldn't be stale because then it just makes it impossible to chew. They also have a system that is a little disorganized. At one station you pick up your drink and at the other one you pick up your food. That's a little strange to me. Why not make it one station? My husband and I came here for brunch for the first time. We saw that this place had seating outside, so we brought our dog to enjoy the nice weather with us. We both got a Turkey & Havarti Croissant Sandwich, and I also got a Mexican Hot Chocolate. We requested for the sandwiches to be toasted, since they were already pre-made. The guy brought out our order, and our sandwiches looked completely different. When my husband checked in with him, he had given us the wrong sandwich (one was right, the other wasn't). He fixed it right away, and brought my husband the correct sandwich. I enjoyed the Turkey & Havarti Croissant. It was crispy, and buttery- just the way I like it! Although, they can definitely use more meat and cheese. There was only one slice of turkey, and you can barely taste the cheese. There wasn't a good balance of croissant to meat/cheese ratio. Despite that, I have to give them credit for a good croissant. The croissant was buttery and crispy, and it had sprinkled fennel and sesame seeds on top. The combination created a mixture of different tastes and textures- in a GOOD way! The Mexican Hot Chocolate was tasty. The presentation was nice, and they give you a good amount. When I received it, the drink was warm and not hot. I wished it was a lot hotter. Besides that, they did create a froth for the drink, and the drink itself had a good flavor. Really used to be my go to coffee spot in the land park/pocket area, but the service just continued to be worst and worst. I had to greet the cashier/barista since she stood their looking at us waiting to order. Don't let it be the white lady behind us, because then do you get a "hello welcome in,,what can I get started for you!" They updated their menu by increasing the prices, which I do get, but how did some items get smaller in size but up in pricing? $13 for a whatever size breakfast burrito with no sides. This cafe has a great laid back vibe. It's not like those crowded cookie-cutter corporate coffee shops. I felt right at home when I stopped in for a cup of brew. The furniture and decor are a comfortable mixture of old and new. Some of the chairs, counters, and couches are vintage but but give the space a lot of character. They were cleverly integrated with the more modern elemts of the interior's design. A handful of the tables and walls are decorated with plants and paintings from local artists. It's a great place to stop for morning coffee, a decadent snack, or to while away a lazy Sunday afternoon. I really like hiw the outdoor seating was sectioned off with wine barrels.
