This place is awesome! It is a classic bistro with a wide variety of quality food and services. The food has always been top notch. Some of my favorites over the years have been the penne Bolognese, tenderloin sandwich, fried chicken, short ribs, and pan seared sea scallops. In the summer, I stop by for a lobster roll and a drink after work. The menu usually cycles through every couple of months or so. Bar has about 15 spots, a couple of TV's and has a decent selection, but no drafts. On the way out and if I remember, I pick up some of the cookies they get from Lakota Bakery for my girl friend. You can tell the owner is very concerned with food quality and can be seen helping out on busy nights. Occasionally he comes over to say hello to customers at bar or in seating area and asks how the food is. The staff is friendly and accommodating for larger groups. I usually give them a ring if I'm bringing a group of more than 4 or it's a weekend night just to check how busy it is. I recommend this place to all my friends who come into town and I recommend it to you! Also, don't ever pay for parking. There are usually plenty of spots along the side streets up Meriam Street. I have been holding off writing a review.... because I dont want everyone to know and suddenly it is become too busy.... The food is always fantastic. The change the menu about once a month and the new items are usually seasonal fare. I had a pumpkin soup last fall -- it was served in a small pumpkin. All I can was that I went back the next night to order it take out. They have added a small bar area, which is nice place to wait, until the rest of your party arrives. It is also kid friendly, my son loves the grilled cheese, and I love they have fresh fruit for him. It will never disappoint. read more

Via Lago is a place that has seen several changes over the years, all good. I liked it when it was just a glorified deli, but it became one of my favorite restaurants when they put in the bar and began serving dinner. The menu changes frequently, and always has wonderful options, but if you have a hard time deciding, there is always the bolognese, which is amazing! The waitstaff is so warm and friendly. My family has gotten into the habit of going to Via Lago on a weekly basis, and it didn't take long for the waitstaff to remember us, our drink orders, and our preferences. Meh. I wanted to get a sandwich that wasn't a typical sub shop type of sandwich and reviews of Via Lago seemed promising. When I got there it was pretty busy, though I was able to order and pay quickly. Then my sandwich took forever- at least it seemed that way. The people that ordered before me, and after me, were long gone. By the time I got my sandwich I was the only one there. The desserts consist of a few cookies and bars - the case seemed fairly empty (maybe just picked over later in the day?) The pressed chicken sandwich didn't come with a pickle like others had mentioned in the tips. The ingredients seemed fresh, but for a pressed sandwich the bread seemed soft/soggy vs. crispy from being in a press and it was nothing that spectacular. read more

I don't eat out at a lot of the Lexington/Bedford restaurants. While I live in Boston, I work in Lexington, and overall have not found a lunch spot in the area that I'm really into. The only exception is Via Lago. I've never actually eaten in, I've just used them for corporate catering. Every time we use them they make it easy (and yummy) to order lunch for clients that come into our office. The mixed sandwich or wrap trays are tasty and pretty upscale for sandwiches and the salads are yummy too. Another bonus, is that they are always on time, and will bring serving dishes and utensils and help you set up. Also, everyone always loves the giant cookies. read more

Got here right in time for breakfast. Got the Logger Roll Up and was very pleased. The egg was well cooked and the sausage tasted fresh and not packaged. Thumbs up for this place. Low key but chic decor. Went in today (Saturday) for a late lunch. Menu has some specials aside from the standard sandwiches shown on the website. I got the pressed chicken sandwich w/ avocado, cheddar, and tomato. It came out nicely crispy on the outside, which is an Italian Roll. The chicken is a big piece of breast - very tender but could used more flavor / marinade. Pretty good portion size for $7. Plate included a piece of cucumber that has been salted so it's crunchy, but surprisingly not pickled. Sorry forgot to take a pic. My friends and I set at our table until 4:30, which is when they started prepping the tables for dinner service. We weren't rushed out or anything by the staff which is worth an extra star. read more

Went for Lunch the other day with my husband and baby. I had the Thai veg wrap with chicken. It was a little bland, would have liked more sauce. We split a Vietnamese Fresh Roll, which was just ok. It came with a sweet and sour dipping sauce and I think the rolls are much better with Peanut sauce. There was ample seating which was great with a stroller. read more

We have been eating here for the past few years for dinner, and have enjoyed the food and the place - and it's quiet enough for conversation. Service is friendly but uneven. The calamari and duck wraps were tasty. The Caesar salad fresh and crisp. On this visit one person had pasta which was indifferent, one the tasty scallop appetizer, another the cod loin (pronounced very good), and the chicken (quite good). I used to like the duck breast/confit (excellent) - unfortunately no longer on the menu. All this washed down with a bottle of chianti. We were too full to order desert. It's all well priced - good value. Worth a visit. We will continue to patronize the place and hope that it improves: a good addition to dining in Lexington. read more

We had last minute stop at this restaurant and was pleased how they put us on table with nice view of Mass Ave. The serve was bit slower but the food were good especially the sweet potato clam chowder was excellent. Little bit pricey for regular portion of dinner. We can return this restaurant again in future. read more

A pretty breakfast place in Lexington Center. Creative food choices and relatively healthy. Coffee was good and the staff were very nice.

We initially went there for lunch and had trouble finding where the food was or what room was open. The last time we went there it was hard to find a good salad with protein and the one I ordered had undercooked squash. It must be a popular restaurant with people in downtown Lexington, but it was noisy, crowded, and not especially helpful. We asked where drinks of water were and the staff pointed vaguely in the other room. It may be best as a take-out place, which is how we have used it in the past many years. read more

This review is for breakfast specifically. I had to Yelp for a breakfast place near Bedford to meet my visiting parents, and wasn't really sure what to expect here. Very pleasant surprise! Lexington and the restaurant itself weren't very busy on that summer Saturday morning, giving it a very relaxed vibe. I got a kind of "low key side business tacked on before the lunch-and-dinner regular service" feeling from the breakfast setup, and that casual atmosphere was just fine with us. You order from a counter in the back of the seating area, where there's also pour-it-yourself coffee and a fridge with juice, then seat yourself. But, the staff will serve the food to your seats, which is good because the portions are very generous! The most surprising thing was the price - I was expecting a restaurant in the middle of Lexington to cost over $10 a person, but it was very good value, I think all three of us ate for around $20. The food itself is solid typical breakfast fare, with a couple specialty options. Simple but effective and plenty of it. I don't actually remember what I got, other than that it was good. Oddly enough, the one specific note is that the wheat toast on the side was actually really good (thick slices, not too much or too little butter), and I'm not usually big on toast. Went here for the first time today since it has great ratings. The food is good but the two employees I interacted with were grumps. One took my order with the patience of a hungry viper attacking a rat. The guy at the register was as happy as s kid with a full diaper. After paying I was shouted at to go find a seat and someone would bring my food. This came from the doll who took my order. Would have been nice if the guy at the register told me this. This restaurant was ok. The food was exceptional and the servers were not so bad. It's a diverse bistro in a warm interior. We sat down not knowing that we had to go up and order. We had no idea until a lady directed us and brought us to a long counter. We ordered our food. I got a chicken quesadilla as my father got a sandwich. (Tuna melt to be precise:) ) We waited and waited. 15 minutes turned into half an hour which turned into 45 minutes and we had places to be, but know this, the place wasn't busy at all, there were at least 6 people at that time. We saw this elderly couple find a seat close to us. Then this lady with a bit of an attitude came and told them that they had to go up and order it. At least put up a sign . My dad stood up and walked over to them. He came back and told me that they hadn't even made it! I was so mad, because I really did not want to spend my whole day at this restaurant. 3 minutes later this nice man came over and brought us our food. We ate and overall it wasn't that bad, I don't know about my dads but mine was ok. But I don't think we were ever really gonna come back. We were asked by some friends to join them for dinner at this establishment. We had never dined there previously; however, based on our friends' recommendation, we were eager for the experience. Under the circumstances, I elected not to say anything about what turned out to be a poor experience (detailed below) to the manager on duty in front of our friends at the time of our visit. Instead, I elected to contact restaurant management on return home to share our concerns rather than immediately post an unfavorable review. Unfortunately they have chosen not to respond to me leaving us with no choice but to write this strong critique. We were both extremely disappointed with our meals. We shared an heirloom tomato & valbreso feta salad which was tasty but ridiculously overpriced for what turned out to be three slices of tomato and a few small bits of feta cheese. My wife's entrée was London broil: it was disappointing in that the plate was made to look "full" by smothering it with vegetables thereby masking the fact that there was very little meat served to her. My meal was the cod which was quite good. We were particularly upset by the service or shall I say the lack thereof. The woman who waited on our table was dreadful. I was especially repulsed at the way she cleared, heaping dirty plates on top of one another in a manner one might find in a poor fast food restaurant. Her attitude and approach to us on ordering and between courses was disgraceful. Given our experience and the lack of follow up by management I have no recourse but to say that this is an establishment where no one cares about quality and customer service. We recommend you dine elsewhere. read more

The best resturant in Lexington, which doesn't say much. Really, Iike the place and eat here alot. Decent but bare bones wine list, good food, particularly the seafood. My wife is less adventurous in her tastes and so has a kick on Lexx. Via Lago prices are lower than Lexx by $10 per person or so and the food is better, but the menu not as broad as Lexx. Note that the Yelp ratings are not the same as "normal" ratings. Yes I am a fan of Via Lago, but this is no 4 star restaurant. A half step below a very good restuarant in the North End - not bad for the burbs. read more

What a terrific place in Lexington Center! It's always been a great place for breakfast and lunch. In the last few months, we have started going there for dinner. What a delight. Really tasty dishes at prices that families can actually afford. (Somehow, restauranteurs seem to think everyone in Lexington wants to spend a ton of money for pretty mediocre food.) Just had the summer salad special with chicken for lunch. It was an ok portion for lunch and had fresh fruit on it with a sweet dressing. The place is odd in that, you walk in and there is a bar right there and lots of tall tables on the right and you are not sure what to do. One of our party was elderly and we needed a low table which we were lucky to find one of just a few. The seating section on the left was closed off which does not look good at all. After you find your table and can figure out how to save it somehow, you have to walk to the back to a big deli counter to order, and wait in line to pay. They have a huge menu posted behind the deli counter which is a little difficult to read. We were pleasantly surprised to find our food at the table when we were done paying. The layout is really awkward, but the food was pretty good. Another of our party had the Pulled Pork sandwich that was very good. Staff was friendly. read more

Where do I begin? My wife and I were passing through the town, mid morning, and were looking for something reasonable and quick. Decided in this establishment, placed an order, was told 10 minutes, and went to pick it up after grabbing a coffee at a nearby business. Wife went in to get the food and came out mortified. Upon asking what was wrong, she continued to tell me she was berated by one of the employees and that "breakfast is only until 10:30 but I made it anyway" as if he was doing us a favor. And I wouldn't mind but it was 10:33. Taken back, my wife explained we were not aware of this as we were out of town and he retorted angrily "well now you know". Maybe he was having a bad day but to take it out on a customer? Why take the order if it was that much of an inconvenience to make two breakfast wraps? All I can say is he is lucky she has more empathy than me because I would have thrown the wraps at him and walked out. Poor form and no tact. Great way to build your business. In terms of the actual wraps, the eggs were watery and you could have used the 1 wrap to make both orders. Neither my wife nor I of finished them. read more

Used to eat there all the time. Friday nights with friends. Then they got their liquor license and got really busy. Still didn't mind waiting for a table. The food was just mediocre, but the place was local and a good casual dinner spot. One Friday night, one of the principals who had known our group for years tells us that she could have turned our table over many times if we hadn't been there. Most dinners are under $20, and there are many choices of less expensive pastas and sandwiches. The menu changes weekly, with some of the favorites available all the time. Service is friendly and relaxed. Any issues are addressed quickly, they want to ensure you enjoy your experience. Takeout is also convenient and you can go with a full dinner, or just a sandwich and fries. The tenderloin sandwich is great, as is the salmon sandwich. Love the duck dishes, and the steaks are marvelous. Have had some of the best soups ever there, a pumpkin curry was a real surprise I had to come back and get again before it disappeared off the menu. Just going for drinks at the bar with some apps is a nice getaway too. Breakfast is also a real treat. Much more casual. The florentine is a delicious breakfast wrap with eggs, spinach and Swiss cheese. I have enjoyed their high quality food so much I tried them for a catering job, and was not disappointed. On a recent Saturday night my wife and I dined at Via Lago. We did not have to wait for a high top and within seconds we were served water and bread. Both of us got the ginger salmon dinner which came with broccoli and jasmine rice. The fish was nicely seasoned and the rice was extraordinary. The only slight disappointment was that the broccoli was not fresh. We joked that we know oftentimes frozen veggies are more nutritious than fresh but nevertheless fresh veggies were expected for the price we paid. Nice atmosphere in the bar area. This is definitely the best spot in Lexington center. The menus are ever changing and always satisfying, and the atmosphere is energetic and classy. Via Lago is an interesting cross between a sub shop and a restaurant. I've been going there for years, and it has always been consistent in most every way. There is a great variety to the menu, and the food quality doesn't disappoint. Portions are reasonable and the value is good. Breakfasts are especially hearty. Unfortunately Via Lago is also consistently unpleasant, a place to go if you want to be grunted at and rushed by rude service staff. It's normally not worth it to me.
