Looking for a good breakfast spot on the upper west side? Viand has you covered. We stopped in on a rainy summer morning and quickly found ourselves seated at an old wooden table with hot black coffee. Watching regulars mosey in and out, we ordered plate after plate of eggs, has browns, bacon, toast, fruit cups, orange juice, tea, and numerous refills of coffee. Each dish was prepared just right and hit the spot, satisfying our craving for breakfast eats. Viand is definitely a neighborhood gem - you should give it a try if you haven't already!

My students from the west side rave about this place, so we stopped in for lunch on a school trip to AMNH. Everyone enjoyed a huge plate of food, and the staff masterfully managed orders from the 9 of us. The booths were clean, tables wiped, and I enjoyed a delicious root beer float with a generous scoop of ice cream, as a float should be. Despite being crowded, the post-Covid transparent barriers kept the noise to a minimum. So for a party of 10 or 2, Viand provides ample goodness on all levels.

Viand tries to fill the space of cozy yet chic diner on the Upper West Side. While the food has some inventive touches on diner classics (and more than ample portions), it doesn't justify the price tag. We stopped in for a late breakfast/lunch on a Saturday and got seated right away: service was efficient for the size of the crowd. The menu spans the usual mix of omelettes, sandwiches, griddled goods, and more: she did an order of creme brulee French toast and I went with a grilled veggie panini. The French toast came out as four big slices, coated in coarse burnt sugar and filled with a custard cream; it was delicious without being cloying though the strawberries on the side tasted like they'd been frozen and chilled. The panini was solid: grilled eggplant + squash + peppers + onions with goat cheese on toasted ciabatta. The vegetables were roasted well without being overwhelmed with char

I love how Viand feels like a upscale diner, but the food is still pretty affordable despite the pretty vibes. Was able to walk in before noon without a seating issue although if you came after noon there would be more of a wait. - Lox Benedict - I thought this was a pretty solid benedict. The lox was half cooked, probably from the heat emitted by the egg, which made it an interesting texture to eat. I really appreciate the hash browns as they are slightly charred and were crispy at the same time. - Chicken Souvlaki - I was not the biggest fan of the chicken as there were some more tendon-y parts of the chicken. I would much rather get chicken schwarama from the streets. The fries were yummy though, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. - Huevos Rancheros - I was not the biggest fan of this, in a way I felt like this wasn't super worth my money as there were not a lot of ingredients on the dish. But maybe that's as expected from the description of the dish on the menu. Overall, okay brunch place. I think next time if I come I'll just get the benedicts, although I will have to say that both their hash browns and fries were excellent.

Size matters. Portions here are huge. Nice diner set up with hard working super friendly servers and staff. Easy to go here with kids, and they have lollipop treats. We arrived around 11:30 and got a table in 5 minutes, 4 adults and 3 kids. Within 10 minutes, the line was out the door. Great kids' menu; ours shared grilled cheese, big fluffy French toast, and nice pasta in butter. I failed to get a photo of Croque Monsieur special with tomato salad. Their egg options are good. Gyro and Cuban sandwich platters are huge and so flavorful, as is triple decker club. Fast paced, and they turn tables fast as they can. Clean and lively setting. Over the last few years, I've been here a number of times. Love it. Sandwiches now all over $20, yet sandwiches and platters are all humongous. Tasty. And size matters!

Had lunch here under a reservation with a group of 9! The restaurant itself felt kinda cramped with how many people were there. Had to ask our waitress for more silverware and cups because there weren't enough. Some food items took awhile to come out, but other things were normal. Food was pretty good!! The chicken was kinda small for the size of the waffle.

This spot is perfect for families who want as nice as possible of a night out. There's a decent kid menu, a nice alcohol menu, and lots of other food menus. Our waitress knew that we'd want to order kid food right away, which was right on, and she also kept asking if we wanted another drink (but not in a pushy way). The outdoor seating is a nice option, and there's some plant coverage if you don't want to feel like you're right on the street. I wish the kid mac and cheese didn't come out so hot. Yes, it was tasty, but maybe there's another way to make it for the kids. French fries were perfect. I didn't think the hot chicken sandwich special was so great; good idea, but the pieces didn't really mesh well together, and it was very hard to eat. I'll definitely be back! Thanks for one of the best nights out with my family (young kids) in a while.

I love a place with outdoor seating. I've been walking by this place for the past two years and finally decided to give them a try. The food was really good and the vibes were great. My boyfriend said the eggs Benedict was the best he ever had. It was absolutely delicious. My omelette was good but not the best I ever had. What I really loved was the homemade blackberry jam they served my toast with.

I don't think I have to much to say about this place; It got my attention because how busy it looked but afterwards I got really disappointed or maybe I just picked wrong with my order. I went with a group of 6 friends and each of us got different things. To be honest I think I was the only one that didn't like what I got. I ordered the huevos rancheros and I'll give them a 3/10: no flavor, nothing special + the eggs where on top of a tostada when they are supposed to be on a fried tortilla. The rest of my friends said their meals where pretty decent tho. Positive things: They have a pretty affordable brunch menu with coffee, juice or alcohol drink included. They allowed me to bring coffee from another shop They brought the food really quick Negative things: Don't get the huevos rancheros They brought the bill before we asked for it and I HATE when restaurants do that. We just feel like they were kicking us out ??

It was relatively quick for Sunday primetime for brunch. 10 min wait for outdoor dining at around 1pm. During covid 19 times, there were alot of people but the servers all wore masks, wiped down the tables. Food was decently priced. But the side orders are pricey. Brunch includes one drink and kids meals include one soft drink. Mimosa was refreshing. read more

If you find yourself at this cross street and looking for dinner, this is the place to go. The best picks on the menu for dinner are the salmon and the veal milanese. Serve with either mashed potato or quinoa, both are fantastic. Skip the French Onion soup, the kitchen has not come to close mastering this dish. You get a bowl of onion soup, with a glob of melted cheese. Hopefully they work on improving this, or remove it from the menu. In its current state, it is impossible to eat. The dinner rolls are not much to speak about. Coffee can be skipped. For brunch, look elsewhere. Eggs Benedict come with a store bought English Muffin. read more

My mother was in town and I decided to take her to this spot. Unfortunately, we were disappointed with the food and service. She ordered the baked potato and I ordered the Spanish Omelette. My toast was burnt (imo, that's burnt) and both our dishes were very bland/dry. Lastly, the service was sparse and unfriendly. We waited over ten minutes hoping to see our waitress, but ended up asking one of the busboys to help get our check. I really wanted to like this place but I don't think I'll be coming back :( read more

I got the roasted beet salad which seemed to have very fresh ingredients and good flavor but our service was terrible. The waitress took our order then we never saw her again. We had finished with our food for at least 10 minutes and I had to ask someone inside for the bill, they weren't busy either. read more

I went here for breakfast, lunch, and brunch so far. I love the food and they come in big servings. If your in the sandwich mood, I recommend The Modern, pancakes eggs and a large selection of food are available here too. If available, the cinncackes are really good, they are one of many specials. read more

Can diners sustain themselves in NYC these days? Some of the old school diners are overpriced, don't get great portions and some of the old school staples just aren't good anymore. I write this post as almost a eulogy for the UWS diner, as once again I visit a diner for breakfast food at non-breakfast hour. And I gotta tell you, I was just very non plussed. I like Viand down on Broadway, over by the Beacon. I think they have the same owners. Their hash browns were terrible. And I really don't like when a sausage egg and cheese is on the menu and...they only have links. I mean, first world problems. But come on. I came on a Sunday, and there was a wait. Normally, I don't mind, especially since the other options in the hood (hello, GETE) have like hour waits, or more. the guys told us 5 minutes which is more than acceptable. But it turned into 30. I could've gone to GETE at that point. They are also on Seamless, and i gotta tell ya, it's almost not even worth ordering from a diner anymore. It's sad. I'll make my own burgers, thanks. And breakfast, I suppose. Pass. read more

Definitely skip this place. Service is horrible and food is below average. One server came over literally one minute after we got sat down by the hostess and I told her we weren't ready. She looked annoyed and walked away. Then we had another server come over to us and I said we aren't ready. She came back like 5 minutes later with a sassy tone and said, "Are we ready or not?" We ordered the chicken pesto panini and the kung pao chicken dumplings. Panini was alright while the dumplings had a flavorful filling, but the outside had rubbery edges. Not one person came to check up on us. So, when we asked for the check, we didn't tip them. read more

This is one of my favorite go to spots in the city! It's fairly challenging to find a diner that has it all, but they really do. They have an unmatched turkey salad and reliable curly fries. You may have to wait about 15 minutes during peak times on the weekend, but it work the wait. Otherwise they deliver on various apps and always get the order right. read more

I've been to Viand many times pre-covid...but today; I was in the mood for their excellent brunch. We went while it was raining....thankfully their seating has excellent covering to prevent you from getting wet. Their sidewalk tables aren't really IN the sidewalk quite like other restaurants (major plus). Food: I ordered my favorite, short rib breakfast burrito. A massive burrito with plenty of beef. Very flavorful and tastes excellent. Personally, I think it is the best burrito in the city. The burrito is a part of their brunch menu so it came with some fresh squeezed orange juice. My girlfriend ordered the chicken and waffles...a huge waffle with a huge friend chicken cutlet. Not healthy in the least but taste was ridiculous. A little bit of their syrup and it is an EXCELLENT meal. Price: Both meals were under 20 bucks and well worth it. Service: Excellent...they weer constantly filling up our waters or coffee. All in all....we love this place! Never experienced a bad meal. read more

Note that this review is being written during the coronavirus crisis when all restaurants in NYC are closed except for pickup or delivery. My wife has been missing her weekly brunch outings due to the shutdown, so today we decided to order in for us and our kids. When we unpacked the bag from Viand, we realized several items were missing. I called the restaurant and before I could even state my complaint, the woman on the other end apologized and said that she had packed two bags, but the delivery person had just taken one and left. She promised the rest of our order was on its way. When it arrived, we were given two bags - one with the rest of our original order and a second bag filled with muffins, croissants, brownies, etc. that was "on the house." It was such a wonderful gesture, especially knowing how difficult things are in the restaurant industry right now. It looks like we will be eating brunch most of today with all this food, haha. We look forward to when this crisis has passed so our family can dine at Viand in person. read more

Pretty solid spot. I went there because its close by and it was reviewed well on Yelp. I ordered one of their $24 brunch specials that came with a glass of red wine sangria. (Sangria was surprisingly good!) Even though it was busy my food came out within 15 minute. Generous portions, I couldn't finish my dish. I recommend it! read more

The food is average, but the takeout service is an abomination! First of all, although it is against the law to include plastic utensils in a take-out bag unless the customer requests them, Viand includes them in every bag even if you ask them not to. Not great for the environment! Next - last night after a harrowing day I ordered a take out meal from Viand. I arrived home at 9:00 to find 2/3 of my meal was there. But they had forgotten the other 1/3! When I phoned I was told that even though what what was missing would have required no preparation, it was too late for them to deliver it. I then asked to speak to the manager. And this is the unbelievable part! I told him what happened and instead of addressing the issue and at least having the common courtesy to apologize and assure me it wouldn't happen again, he said "OK. Thank you very much" and hung up This goes beyond common rudeness. It was completely unprofessional. Fortunately the Upper West Side has many take out places from which to choose, most of which I'm sure offer good service. read more

What's a classic diner doing on Columbus Avenue? Showing other restaurants how service and good food should be done. My daughter and I were strolling along the UWS and decided to find a place to eat. Viand was our find but it looks like others have found this diner before we did. I ordered the chicken pesto and my daughter ordered the avocado toast. We ate so fast we couldn't take photos. My sandwich was very big and I am taking the remainder for lunch today. Don't forget for only a dollar more, I was able to switch my French fries to Sweet potato fries or a salad. Good eats!!! read more

My usual spot in Viand on Madison but they have not yet reopened. I have always said that Viand has the best orange juice in New York and it is still true. I had lunch there with a friend a few days ago; we sat in the outdoors seating area. It was quite nice with a European flair. They had a good lunch menu, mainly salads and sandwiches. I had the salmon burger and sweet potato fries. Service was good. My bill came to $27 including tax and tip (no drink). Viand is not a diner, at least not a diner in the traditional sense. The menu isn't "unlimited choices" and the price isn't "comparatively low". If I had to classify, I'd call it "upscale casual". read more

The hipster, Californian tourist I am, or was when me and my group of friends ran, huddled together for warmth, into this cute little diner to keep out of the NYC wintertime cold, you know I ordered the AVOCADO TOAST. To my surprise, this turned out to be one hefty/hearty meal! And we were set to go eat KBBQ shortly after with some lawyer friends of our lawyer friend in Midtown, so I definitely left way too full on leaving. We were served our waters so quickly after we sat down, too. Like here, out-of-townees, hydrate! I loved the diner feel of not too sketchy, but not too boujee. Great little find to kill time before the uber arrived! read more

Came here for a lunch appointment. The reviews are pretty spot on. The customer service sucks in this place big time. Any time the waitress, Sylvia, came over it was because I called her over after gawking around for several minutes. I swear no one came by for 10 minutes when I first sat down - mind you it's not super crowded at all. The food came quickly though nothing to write home about. I got the eggs benedict. Pretty average and I mean average. The muffins were over toasted (i.e. borderline burnt) and it came through in every bite. Hashbrowns were not my fave though many raved about them. Cappuccino was fine. All in all this place probably survives on regulars and tourists. I paid $20 before taxes and tip for my breakfast and coffee. It wasn't worth it. The portion was great but the flavor was boo boo. I left a minimum tip though none was really earned. Bathrooms was clean. Points for that. Typical diner interior - booths and tables. Tiles floors. Mirrors. Bar area. Patio. To conclude, I wouldn't recommend and will not come back if I can help it. read more

While we were sad to see the previous diner (Jackson Hole) to leave the neighborhood, but Viand was a nice addition. Viand has a menu that has something for everyone. My daughter is a fan of the French Toast. I prefer the Leo Omelet (lox onions add eggs). read more

My boyfriend and I were wandering the neighborhood in search of something to eat and stumbled on this spot - what an incredible find. I used to live on the UWS so naturally I never ate here. Though I wish I had. This restaurant is like an upscale diner - the inside is so cute, really clean, and the service was fast. We immediately got a table - it was a Sunday night - and the menu did not disappoint. I ordered a turkey melt and was expecting deli meat - nope. This sandwich had huge slabs of carved turkey on the most delicious toasted bread. The sweet potato fries were incredible as well. We will definitely be back for the all day breakfast and/or brunch. Disgusting. They sent burnt, not delicious, totally overfried, black burgers. How can you not be able to fry minced meat and how can you send so many carcinogens from the kitchen? French fries seemed to be made in old oil, tasted hollow. Mac n' cheese was decent, but also a bit dry. It's nice that they included Cole slaw and pickles. read more

We were interested in eating here, and looking at the menu, noticed rose cappuccino, so I asked a server what a rose cappuccino was...maybe you have heard of them but I had not. She could barely conceal her disgust, "a rose cappuccino is just what it says, a cappuccino with rose in it !!" I loved watching the staff prepare the noodles while waiting. My bowl was huge and absolutely delicious. It was very spicy as promised, but not too spicy that it was rendered not enjoyable. I looked at other orders and everything looked delicious, leading to only semi-regret of my choice. My lemonade was very good. I'm very much looking forward to returning.

The broth was too salty for me but I just didn't drink it and it made all the other ingredients taste good. Pretty good portion for the price too. My bf got the lamb version and they didn't give him much lamb so I'd go with the beef. If you're looking for a quick tasty bite this place is it!

WORST SERVICE EVER I was in line at "Good Enough to Eat" at 11am on a Sunday but it was about a 30 minute wait to get a table so I decided to go across the street to Viand instead where I was seated immediately. It took about 15 minutes just for someone to grab our drink order. Then I see other people being seated, ordering drinks immediately, and receiving their drinks right away. Our drinks didn't arrive until 30 minutes after we ordered them. There were actually people who sat down after us who received and finished their meals before we even got a cup of coffee. When I complained and the waiter finally made his way over (15 minutes after I complained to the bus boy), he could not have been more rude. He scoffed and rolled his eyes, was smirking the entire time and was yelling to bear with them because they were busy. If you're so busy, why is everyone else around us getting their meals while we're waiting on coffee? An absolute shame. Guy can't manage a brunch line for the life of him.. let some entitled plastic faced old lady cut in front of a you d family with kids just because she pushed herself threw the line and told him to seat her. Won't last long with such poor management read more

Olga was an amazing waitress, i had a phenomenal meal and it was breakfast for dinner which i received within 10/15 minutes of ordering. Kind staff and very involved, never had to ask for much of anything! read more
