And you can get all dark or all white meat or mixed. I also ordered the potato leek soup on a lark. Wow. Might be the best I've ever had. Remember to ask for the croutons on the side if you order it. Stopped by tonight during what was definitely a busy time before the parade so our expectations were low. The owner//management should be proud of his waitstaff for their hustle. Beyond that, the manager on duty was shockingly terrible. While his staff was struggling to get to tables in a timely manner (we waited 20+ minutes before I had to flag someone down to wait on our table), he spent 5+ minutes at a time waiting on one regulars table while completely ignoring anyone else in the restaurant including his staff who seemed annoyed and frustrated. The food was mediocre at best, so unfortunately there was literally no saving grace. Def do not recommend. read more

This may have been the worst breakfast I have ever had. I think it's probably a good place for families, since they have a large menu with many options - but definitely not a good place for a couple trying to get some decent breakfast. We chose to eat outside in the covered area, so I am unable to comment on the interior of the restaurant. Our waitress was aloof and we continued to see her behind the outdoor enclosure past the restaurant on her phone. It took a while to order and to pay our check. We decided to choose the berry fruit cup and one the quesadillas. The berry fruit cup was mostly melon and pineapple which tasted like it had been sitting out for days and not the least bit fresh. This experience genuinely confused me. I came here with my dining partner because I reeeeeaaallllyyy wanted pancakes and I'd read the avians had good ones. The staff was fairly nice and accommodating. We were seated right away and given time to pick what we wanted. I originally asked for banana and chocolate chip pancakes. A couple minutes later I was told they had no bananas so I asked for chocolate chip and marshmallow pancakes. My dining partner asked for chocolate chip pancakes. We also ordered the chicken tender appetizer. Instead of chocolate chip and marshmallow pancakes, I received chocolate chip and *graham cracker* pancakes. So strange. They were alright. A bit dry because of the lack of marshmallow Instead of chocolate chip pancakes, my dining partner got chocolate chip and walnut pancakes. Even more strange. The chicken tenders were groundbreaking, though. Truly the perfect amount of crunch and tenderness. The honey mustard was fantastic and overall the highlight of the meal. I will never return to this place. After YEARS of loyalty, I was given the wrong meal (which happens all the time) and got NO apology---my boyfriend's meal was finished when my proper meal arrived. The waitress did not apologize for messing up my order; and the manager didn't either. NO discount or other comp offered. I wrote and called, was given an "apology" and told that maybe they would've given me a discount the next time I go (there is no next time). A great diner located in the UWS on Columbus and 85th. We went there for dinner around 6 pm on a Friday. It was pretty quiet at that hour. More people started to flow in as time went on. We were able to order a meal quickly for our son once we sat down. We then got our drinks order in and then finally the food. The portions here at Viand are very large. Prices are a bit on the higher side for a diner but it makes sense once you see how much food you get. The service was great and everything was delicious. I meant to take picture of the food but we were so hungry when it arrived that we just immediately dug in. We ordered a cheese burger and fries, a pesto chicken panini, a Philly cheesesteak and some kids meals. We were surprised to see we received some drink specials on the tap beer we ordered because we didn't see anything advertised anywhere. Will be back here again! read more

We tried Viand right before we visited the MET; I would recommend this combination as you can have something lite to eat without feeling heavy afterwards, allowing you to walk around the city and enjoy your day. The outdoors space was very pretty and it felt as if you're in your own little world in the middle of the city. The food was very tasty. The homemade chicken tenders are a grown up version of your childhood favorite. The Manhattans are strong for when you need one most. The service is friendly and attentive, but not overbearing. Sunday in NYC during Covid... not raining...trying to get a table at noon at Viand. We waited a long time because I wanted to sit where the wind was blocked. Menu is super long, so there's always something for even the most picky or limited eaters. Only downside is the price... but it's one block from Central Park, so it's what you'd expect. Yelp - you tried to warn me the night before when the family got dinner at an Uno Grill close by that barely had two-stars (and it really was as bad as you said) so the next morning we listened and went for breakfast at the place ranked the best in the area. Viand... an elevated "Jersey diner" (complete with Greek workers and menu items) - my family were pleasantly surprised how delicious everything was. We bounced between pancakes to waffles to grilled cheese to Eggs in Purgatory (the Mrs. couldn't stop raving about the tomato-and-feta sauce the eggs were swimming in) to the freshly-made lemonades... every component was damn good. Actually good coffee (not the sludge you sometimes find in Jersey diners, not to mention plenty of refills), a really welcoming and friendly staff... if I had to nitpick my only issues would be their location (since I live in Jersey), their pricing (damn NYC!) and the table/seating is a bit snug for us 'dad bod' types. read more

Atmosphere: The outside of The Viand stands out on the Main Street on the Upper West Side. It's got cute shades, windows, and a closed outdoor seating area. When we arrived, it was already busy and we scored one of the last tables. Coffee: The coffee at The Viand was decent but nothing to write home about. It was hot, but there was nothing unique or unusual about it. Food: The Viand menu has a combination of the typical diner as well as upscale items. A few things that stuck out to me were the huevos rancheros, burgers, flatbread, and pancakes. For an appetizer, I decided to order the Mediterranean flatbread. The flatbread was one of the best I've had. There were olives, onions, tomato and feta. I have no regrets. For my entree, I ordered the blueberry pancakes with whipped cream. An interesting combination of food? The pancakes themselves were excellent, and they were light and fluffy. I was pleased with my choice. Service: The Viand was great. The waiter took our orders quickly and the food came out fast. I couldn't have asked for better service. Overall thoughts/Would I Come Back to The Viand? Had a very disappointing experience at Viand. Our waitress was rude to us from the moment we sat down and gave me a difficult time when I asked for a new glass for water because mine had leftover lipstick on it. My girlfriend's pancakes were burned and the waitress was reluctant to replace them. My french toast was decent but nothing special. The nail in the coffin for me was having my card run at the table and then the waitress hovered over us while we tipped which I thought was unprofessional and not good service. Great diner close to Central Park on 85th and Columbus Ave. They have plenty of outdoor seating with plexiglass separated tables. Solid spot to enjoy a meal during Covid. Staff here is super friendly and the service is pretty fast. We were seated right away and our food arrived within a few minutes of ordering. We got a Swiss my lox brunch special with a Reuben sandwich and Tuna salad Melt along with 2 bloody Marys. Tuna melt sandwich came a with pickle, cole slaw and a side of fries. Brunch special with a choice or drink (got a coffee). The sandwiches were quite tasty and filling. All of that was around $90 (and so I would say it is on the pricier side as diners go) but they serve generous portions and we had leftovers to take home. Very nice experience! They sorted us very quickly and we got a seat outside with the heat it was absolutely great! Ordering went very smoothly, the waitress was nice and attentive. We had an omelet, two chicken parmigiana and another chicken panini. We shared a bottle of Malbec. They had brunch menu but we found the regular menu more appealing to us. We were riding bikes in the park and got hungry. We came down 85 st. My old stomping ground. I thought there would be somewhere to eat in this area. Much to my surprise, there are a few places to eat. We chose this one. And what a great choice it was. We had to wait 15-20 mins. The area was full of people. I asked the hostess if she could seat us outside where we could watch our bikes. She said sure. We finally got an excellent table near the bikes, on the corner. We spoke to a few passerby and people waiting for a table. We ordered a hamburger and gyro. We also ordered onion rings and French fries with our meals. The orders came out quick. They looked fantastic. Both were big plates of food. The onion rings and fries were some of the best we have ever had. Real crunchy and not greasy at all. The hamburger was as ordered. Full of flavor and nicely prepared. The gyro was a ton of meat, platter style. If was also nicely prepared and flavorful. People passing by were in awe of our meal. This place rocks. When all the other brunch spots along this street were spilling over with people, this place was relatively quiet, until after 11am. The weather was perfect for sitting outside. The food isn't the prettiest, but it tastes good. I ordered the shakshuka ($15), which came with pita bread to dip. I have to say that this place gets mad props for hitting the right bread to sauce ratio. I was able to soak up all the delicious tomato sauce with the bread I was given, and I liked that it was crisp on the outside and warm. The shakshuka had two eggs, which was enough for me, though I think a real shakshuka should have way more eggs. The portion sizes are quite large. The sandwiches are super filling and can be shared with another person, and the French toast came as a mountain of toast and Nutella. You get a hearty meal, the food is decent, and you don't have to wait too long. The only thing is that as more people started coming in, I could tell the waitstaff was starting to get overwhelmed. Really a 3.5 for now, but not bad enough to get 3 stars. I just opened a new office up the block and was scoping out some lunch places in the area and decided to try this out. The menu is extensive, which is nice. There is something for everyone. Food/drinks ordered: Grilled salmon with couscous and I swapped the spinach for brocolli - it was super yummy and flavorful, a but much on the salt but hey, bring on the sodium! It was a good portion that left me full and happy. French onion soup - also super good, a nice, cheesy portion Banana Split for dessert - did not get to try Central Park West cocktail - it sounded more interesting than it tasted. The concept was nice but I think the flavor balance was off a bit. Presentation with a rose petal on top was cute. The reason it got 3.5 stars is because of the service. I can't say that anyone was rude or anything but I also can't say that they were particularly attentive. Everything from food, drinks, desserts took forever to get there. Not once did our waitress check on us, nor did she come to take our drink orders for a good 15 minutes after giving the menu. She forgot about the dessert. We waited 20 minutes, even stepped out for a smoke, and reminded another waiter about the dessert, but we still did not get our dessert. That's completely ridiculous! I never leave less than 20% gratuity, and this time, the 15% I left was a gift. Upon exiting, I approached the man whom I presumed was the manager/owner and told him, politely, that it was not okay that we were not attended to, especially since the place was nearly empty. Viand is an unexpectedly good spot for a casual meal! What I mean by that is it's a bit unassuming, sandwiched between great places like The Consulate and Cotta. I guess I think of it as a diner, with pretty damn good food. In the beginning of the pandemic, I was obsessed with getting their sausage, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich delivered. While I can't say it's the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had, it's good and found myself craving it for whatever reason. I was also really impressed with the Piggy Egg Sandwich - yum! Anyhow, while not the typical "manhattan diner" or "city line diner" in its appearance, it's a diner with pretty legit food.
