My first time staying here was very pleasant. The hotel is aesthetically pleasing. The staff were very kind & efficient. The floors were quiet, the room was clean, the bed was super comfortable. Bathrobes & slippers are included and I love how you can change the light settings in the room. The location of the hotel is convenient. This place is surrounded by food options & everything else. Great location in Gold Coast, close to Magnificent Mile and many restaurants. Service was great from check in to check out. Valets open the door for you, front desk was very friendly, concierge available as well, though we didn't use that service. Also a security guard is in the lobby and elevators require key card access so very safe. The room was clean, though the "hallway" in the room seems like a waste of space (about 30 sqft), making it feel smaller. Bathroom was very nice and modern, shower was HUGE, you could comfortably fit four people in there! Hotel and neighborhood were quiet at night. A few complaints though, first the bed and pillows. The bed seemed sunken in on top so when you laid down, your head would feel like it's unsupported. All four of the standard bed pillows had no shape at all, went super flat with any pressure. Had to fold them in half to feel decent. Found out they do have foam pillows available upon request, but was too late and tired to have called the front desk and wait for a pillow. The other issue was the integrated "smart" lights. There is a master switch at the room entrance and most lights (besides lamps) were integrated into a Lutron system where you can set different "moods" of lighting. Cutting edge a few years ago, but seems to need a bit of an adjustment. The light in the bathroom vanity is tied to a motion sensor, presumably for if you need to get up to use the toilet at night, you don't need to physically turn on any lights. The issue I had was with the detection range of the sensor. It's somewhere in the bathroom, but apparently the detection range extends to the bed. I found this out as I adjusted the blanket going to sleep, the light came on. It wasn't a horribly bright light, but in a pitch black room (thanks to the blackout curtains), any bit of light is glaring. Tried to use the wall switch to turn this off, but to no avail. It came on again once in the middle of the night, but I was able to lay facing the opposite side and fell asleep. Not a huge deal, but an annoyance to not be able to turn that off at all. The gym is much larger than is shown on their website, about twice that size. All the basic equipment, nothing of particular note. Also on site is a restaurant and a bar/lounge on the top floor. Overall, great stay and value for the money. Some calibration to the rooms could be done, but very likely to stay here again on future Chicago trips! read more

Love this spot! Our room was immaculate and the decor is super cute. The floor to ceiling windows gave us a great view of Chicago and Lake Michigan. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The gym has a good selection of TechnoGym equipment (other various equipment too) and also has great views. The gym also has cooled towels that smell like lemon! If you forgot your earbuds and like to watch TV while doing cardio, there are some disposable ones provided. We loved the rooftop pool and bar! read more

We had a great room with a view of the Lake, but it was the people at the Viceroy that made our stay special. Kevin helped us check-in, with restaurant reservations and suggestions for places to see. Wow absolutely beautiful hotel. Everything from the cleanliness, customer service, esthetic, and overall experience. You walk in and it's just a nice relaxed but luxurious vibe. The rooftop bar was closing up by the time we got back to the hotel, but the bar crew was so nice and let us look at the views for a few minutes. Also engaged in some quick conversation which shows a lot about customer interaction. There's also this distinct scent that you smell when you walk into the main lobby. IDK WHAT IT IS BUT I NEED THAT AS A CANDLE. Little things like that really made this hotel stand out. Can't wait to stay here again! read more

The place looks nice and the staff are very friendly. Its location is okay; about two miles from millennium park, so you're further than other hotels, but not too far. However, I have to rate this place low because of the noise. The walls are thin, so we could hear _everything_ from our neighbors. Guests talking loudly, doors slamming, TVs blaring, people singing in their rooms. You name it. All into the wee hours. We use our room to relax and sleep, so this is a big component of how I rate a hotel. Can I get good rest there? If not, then you're going to get a low review. This is especially frustrating because this was an "expensive" hotel for us. Certainly not a Ritz, but it's twice the price of an average hotel. So I would have expected better accommodations. Speaking of which, this hotel is a very "try-hard" expensive hotel. They use materials and designs you'd expect from a luxury hotel, but if you look past the fancy facade you'll notice they actually cheaped out. Poor quality grout and caulking work, paint done by amateurs, poor trim design, etc. Total nitpick here, doesn't impact your stay at all, but I mean come on guys. If you're going to spend money on large marble tile bathrooms, river rock shower floors, fancy artistic furniture, etc, pay some professional craftsmen to finish your hotels. Don't just grab the lowest bidder who doesn't even know how to design a door casement. (Again, total nitpick). Big spacious shower with a fancy rainfall shower head and an accompanying detachable head ... but you can't use both heads at the same time. Want to take a nice shower with your wife? Forget about it; there just isn't enough water for the two of you. And you can't hear each other talk anyway, because they forgot to put any sound dampening in the tile and stone bathroom. Another one of those ways they missed the important details and just tried to look nice instead of actually being luxurious. To end on a high note, the gym was nice. Free water and earbuds. The treadmills are in front of big glass windows with a _great_ view. Totally awesome. And a full rack of dumbbells (rare in hotels!). Overall, the place is "okay", but I expected a _lot_ more, and I certainly expected a good night's rest. I recommend spending your money elsewhere. read more

We had a fantastic stay here. The hotel is swanky and luxurious, without feeling stuffy or pretentious. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Our room was comfortable and upscale. The bed was super comfy, and we appreciated the one-touch lighting controls. It was great to have the smart tv, so we could continue watching the Netflix series we had just started. We loved the Nespresso machine in our room, it made fantastic coffee. The bathroom had a nice, big shower. The Tesla was a nice touch, the driver was happy to take us to North and Clybourn, and it was easy to catch the Red Line back. We hope to stay here again next time we need a getaway to Chicago. read more

I dont like to over use words. Espically when I dont mean it, but this hotel is the literally the best hotel I've ever been to. I been to a lot of hotel across the country and from the moment you walk in some one is there to grab your bags and ask you about yourself. The smell of the hotel reminds me of cinnamon rolls which is another plus. Then you get to the rooms. We stayed at the delux king room with a lake view. It was pretty affordable once we looked around some 3rd party sites. The room was super clean and had a great view. It also helps that the tacos next door are amazing but thats a differnent reivew. If you can afford it you must make this your choice hotel. Its close to everything and has everything. You'll thank me later. :) read more

The perfect location in Chicago(Gold Coast), fantastic staff, and quiet and comfy rooms- what's not to love. The bath products are high quality and the smart tv let's you stream all of your favorite shows. Don't feel like walking? Ask the hotel to drop you off in their brand new Tesla, they'd be happy to help. The only frustration I had with this hotel (and the reason for the one star deduction) is that they incorrectly charged me for a mini bar item, and it took two phone calls to get it cleared up. read more

I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights and couldn't have wished for anything more! The service was superb in any way, as we arrived really early around 5 am and the hotel receptionist Chris was so helpful and got us an extra early check in at no cost! This changed the whole mood as we were able to sleep and wake up refreshed for our weekend vacation. The decor and rooms are so nice with some many luxurious details that you expect from a boutique hotel like this one! The rooftop is really one on my favorite things about the place, in a whole this being one the highlight of my trip and plan on staying there anytime time I'm in Chicago. I even started recommended it to friends staying in other cities that might have a viceroy hotel! Looks for any deals on Hotwire and save a big buck but don't get fooled, the service is superb to any guest staying with them! Ps don't forget brunch with the amazing punch bowls! We always love staying at Viceroy properties and the one in Chicago did not disappoint! The retro glam rooms are definitely photo worthy and the rooftop pool and bar has the best view of Chicago's Gold Coast. Everything from the service to the food was so on point and we felt super safe there during covid - the staff took every precaution to ensure cleanliness and social distancing. Bruch at Somerset was also amazing and they have the cutest outdoor greenhouses. Thanks Viceroy, we'll definitely be back soon! read more

I would give 0 stars if that was an option. My best friend and her boyfriend planned a weekend in the city to celebrate her birthday. My friend lost her card before the trip, so I lent her mine to book the hotel with. Mind you we've done this many times previously with other boutique hotels in Chicago without issue (namely the Kinzie and Godfrey). Patrick at the front desk not only denied my friend and her boyfriend entry he loudly accused her of using a stolen card in front of the entire lobby full of would be fellow patrons. I Facetimed her to try giving verification, and Patrick refused to speak with me. I called the front desk and spoke with him on the phone. He cited a security law and said he could not let them in and could not charge the card. Why then do I now have a charge from the Viceroy for a room my friend was refused access to because they couldn't charge my card without me present? This is despicable and unacceptable. I am still awaiting follow up from Lisa in accounting whose voicemail I was transferred to when I called requesting to speak with billing. I would recommend staying as far away as possible from this unprofessional establishment that is not only disorganized but incredibly disrespectful. Additional note, after being refused entry and accused of credit card theft at Viceroy my friend went to the Hilton and was able to check-in without a single problem. read more

My husband and I chose Viceroy Chicago as the hotel for our wedding weekend, both for ourselves and our guests, and we couldn't be happier with our decision! We felt so welcomed from the moment we arrived and continued to have personal touches along the way. Devona coordinated our hotel block and was absolutely fabulous! She upgraded our room upon arrival and had personalized our room with pictures congratulating us along with a fresh fruit tray. The day of the wedding, she then sent up Fannie May chocolates, Sugarfina champagne gummies and a bottle of champagne. On top of all of the gifts we received, our other guests were given gifts upon arrival by Devona and Jonah, including bags with toys for every child. Amazing! What also amazed us is that all of the hotel staff seemed to know our names and that it was our wedding weekend, even those we hadn't formally met, and they greeted us warmly every time they saw us. The hotel offered up their Tesla to take me to the ceremony, and then we held our wedding cocktail hour upstairs at Devereaux and our wedding reception dinner next door at Somerset (reviewed separately). There was phenomenal service all around! Every staff member was so helpful and accommodating, especially for our guests that have food allergies. We were literally blown away the entire weekend by all of the venues and individuals that helped us. I highly recommend the Viceroy Chicago, whether it is for a quick stay or a big event like a wedding. They truly understand what hospitality is and will make your stay very personal and special! I had a simply spectacular experience staying here. It's hard for me to even narrow down who I appreciated the most. One of the door gentlemen, named MJ, wonderful man from Afghanistan was extremely helpful and kind. The front door staff was equally as knowledgeable and really helped me with all of my needs, which were many, including my small disable dog. It is a beautiful facility with a breathtaking rooftop pool. The restaurant is a little pricey but that is to be expected considering the neighborhood. I found an incredible deal with online booking And with 1000% stay here again. We were running the marathon as a group and every question and concern I had was met with a smile and wonderful insight. They even upgraded me to a room with a balcony so that my dog had a space to hang out outside. read more

I can't say enough about the Above and Beyond Concierge services provided by Emily and Alex! They both worked diligently to assist with making advance reservations for a party of ten, at the Aviary. Emily was so instinctive. She provided cards for gift bags, that I had brought, for our 5 rooms. Also, she set us up with a stellar pizza recommendation. Then she arranged for the house car service to take a couple of our men, over to the restaurant. With Emily's help, our men came back victoriously to the hotel with pizza, which allowed the ladies time to get ready for the Aviary. Everyone on staff was so helpful. Thank You So Much! read more

The Viceroy is top of the line. Room decor is unique and fascinating yet still comfortable. In fact, they didnt scimp on small details. I got up thru the night to use the restroom and a dim motion detector light came on just in time to guide me. The Staff was attentive in the hotel, restaurant and bar. Eat in the restaurant on site, the Somerset. The menu is small but the options should please any palate. The French toast and avocado toast were outstanding. Stayed for a bachelorette party and service was Terrible! From checking in to checking out we experienced horrible treatment from the staff. We were a group of 5 ladies and were not about to stay in one room together so we had to pay an additional 600 for another room and was lied that we had to get it in order to use the pool. Mind you the pool we only could have It for two hours. They didn't check names or hotel rooms to get in the pool. So we were hustled. The staff was by far the rudest! The lady at the front desk was yelling at my group and other people in the hotel to wear the masks other wise we were not allowed to come back in. There is a way to talk to an adult and she was harassing many ladies that were paying guests. Called to have the rooms cleaned in the morning and left for 5 hours and they never came. We had an order of champagne and candy sent to the room and no glasses were sent along?? Unprofessional, rude, and rules were not implemented to all the guest. Good luck taking the elevator people are allowed to kick you off if they don't feel comfortable. How does that make sense. The hotel does NOTHING about It. Being a Chicago tourist 10 times a year, me and my family will never book this hotel ever again and we will never recommend this place. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY! Worst experience ever at a hotel. There are so many hotels don't settle for this one. Yes they have a pool but smaller than your slip and slide at home and children jumping and diving with no one telling them to stop. read more

Beautiful hotel and an awesome location! Lots of shops and restaurants to choose from. The hotel itself was lovely. The decor was beautiful and the staff were lovely. There were a few negative things...when our room was "upgraded" we were excited only to find our the put us facing the alley by the garbage cans. Once in our room the remote for the smart TV didn't work, our shower had no shampoo, when we called for room service our call was never answered, the rooftop pool was extremely packed with hotel guests and the public and there was little space to find a place to lay/sit, there were no fresh towels by the pool only a giant stack of dirty ones. Small little problems but for $500 a night I think customers expect certain things. I would definitely stay again. It's a relatively new hotel and I'm sure they're working out the kinks. read more

This place was awesome when it first opened, but in my last visit it seems like the service has gone down a bit. For example I never saw a door man the whole time that I was there (3 days). Also they seemed to staff the front (check in & concierge) minimally, as I mostly saw only one person there most times. My review is mixed. The hotel itself is very nice, the staff was very nice as well. I think we just got unlucky with our room. There was a huge stain on the chair, whatever. The temperature in the room took HOURS to drop one degree and I was hot most of the time I was there, the chain on our toilet broke, etc. I never called to complain and I'm sure they would have accommodated us, it just seemed like too much with our short stay. I think we just had an unlucky experience because again, very nice and obviously things like the chain on the toilet could happen anywhere. These small things left a bad taste in my mouth though and I'm not sure I'd return for the price. read more
