They tried to open door but the lock was in place, thankfully!) and came again at 10:30a (we were in room and opened the door, and they left). In all my years of travel, I've never experienced this. Does the housekeeping not get a schedule of check/in and out? Other than that, it was nice. I liked the seating inside and out and the view was obstructed by other tall buildings.

This is a well situated vintage hotel in an affluent walkable neighborhood with plenty of restaurants and bars to spare. You have Butch McGuire (which is currently decked out for the holidays so if you're not feeling festive yet please pay a visit NOW!) just a corner away, Gotham bagels hidden inside Eduardo next door, and the iconic 3rd Coast Cafe where you can slowly enjoy your breakfast while doing a little people watch. The hotel is also within a stone's away from the beautiful Lakefront Trail, where you can bask in the glorious forever sapphire-blue Lake Michigan if you feel like it. Oh! The famous Second City stage is within 15 min walking distance, if you are in the mood for some sketch comedy. Red Line stop Clark/Division is also only 5min walking distance away. The rooms are plenty spacious imo, and the bed's comfortable enough (I'm sadly recuperating from a herniated disc so nothing is truly comfortable), but one downside is that the walls are VERY thin. For two nights in a row we heard our neighbors in the middle of the night having a *wink wink* good sexy time (also could hear whatever IG reels they were watching). The tapestry/carpet can be a bit dusty since we quickly found ourselves sneezing a bit and getting congested. Other than that, the gym is well equipped with dumbbells, weight machine and treadmills. Lots of free water bottles to grab from there as well. Additional perks include: - daily happy hour with free wine from 5-6pm and free bagged popcorn (this was so fantastic since we arrived famished) - $10 daily credit use it or lose it (make sure to be diligent to use it since it doesn't rollover) - there's an on site sushi restaurant that offers $65 10-course omakase (as a Claridge House guest you do get a discount!) There is a parking garage next door but we didn't have a car w us so can't say much about it. Overall I really adore this place. Would recommend bringing ear plugs or good noise cancelling headphones if you're a light sleeper in case you have noisy neighbors.

One of the first things I notice at luxury hotels is the atmosphere the moment you walk in.. including a signature scent that makes the space feel memorable. Here, there was no scent or ambiance that stood out. The front desk staff and bellhops were wonderful: friendly, welcoming, and efficient throughout our stay. The did keep a delicious mocktail at the front desk. The hotel itself is beautiful, but it wasn't as clean as I expected. There were several areas that appeared to have been overlooked by housekeeping for quite some time. Bar Pendry was a highlight, serving excellent mocktails. Unfortunately, Venteux was disappointing. I tried both the coffee and the matcha on multiple occasions, and they were consistently bland. I ended up getting my coffee elsewhere for the rest of the trip. The food was decent and convenient for breaking my fast, but it wasn't particularly memorable. I usually choose boutique hotels when I travel because I enjoy their unique character and elevated experience. This property didn't deliver that boutique feel for me. Overall, my stay felt more like what I would expect from a standard chain hotel than a luxury boutique property, which was disappointing given my expectations.

There are rows and rows of hot dishes, like scrambled eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage, beans, and breakfast burritos. There's also a large selection of pastries and breads, fresh fruit, sliced cheese, and sliced meats. The breakfast selection varies a little bit each day. For drinks there's juice, hot tea, and coffee. Everything I tried was pretty good, especially the guacamole and oatmeal. The guacamole was super fresh and flavorful, and the oatmeal is made with cinnamon milk and is lightly sweetened. Double check your breakfast dishes though, because multiple dishes and mugs I grabbed had old food or lipstick stains on them.

I'm randomly assigned a room, while a concierge stands next to the kiosk and claps patronizing when I finished checking myself in on the iPad. We get up to the "Standard King Room," and there's only one elevator so it takes 29 minutes to even get the car, and the bed isn't a king; it's two twin beds strapped together with a band. There's no fridge, no microwave, and the bathroom is a giant open shower with a drain in the middle of the floor. There's no counter, just a sink jutting out of the wall. I'm told by the concierge that the room is ADA compliant, but as a mobility aid user, I can promise this room was no such thing. There was not enough space to fit a wheelchair all the way into the room or even turn it around fully. Additionally, the AC had no filter and the door to the room was 3ft from the elevator. I request a different room at the front desk, and because all the king beds in the hotel are twins strapped together (even though they do not disclose that anywhere), they offer a Standard Queen - which the concierge PROMISES is an upgrade because it's in a "newly renovated" room. Guys. I don't know w newly renovated means to Club Quarters, but I this place was updated in the early 2000s. I've attached pictures of what the room looked like - because the pictures featured here on TripAdvisor and on their own site ARE HUGE LIES. Our "upgraded" room had a leak stain in the ceiling, stains in the carpet, the lighting fixture in the bathroom was dirty and rusting, the shower was open as well with a line of bricks along the floor to delineate a separation from the rest of the bathroom, and it overlooked an closed-off alley with a dumpster so the room was dark all day. There was dust on every surface. And despite a sign on the door that says to use the do not disturb sign if we don't want the room serviced, we learn that the room is "service on request" only, AFTER we came back from a long day and didn't have towels to use or any toilet paper. When we called down for new towels the person at the desk literally huffed before saying they'd send someone up. On top of all of this, the third floor, where they "upgraded" us to, has open access. Every other floor requires a keycard to gain elevator access, but the third floor doesn't. And since there's no one at the front monitoring anything because they make you check in on an iPad, anyone can just walk into the hotel and go to the third floor. Anyone. And guess what? They did. We found people outside our room just roaming the hall. This is the wildest, most unprofessional hotel l've ever stayed in. Check these photos, and don't trust t photos on their website. They're catfishier than the girl you've been dating in Canada.

But with that said, I do think we got what we paid for when you look at other options nearby. I'd probably not hesitate to stay again now that my expectations are tempered!

Shocking treatment of a breastfeeding mother & extreme disregard for 8 month old child…read more TLDR: hotel didn't send 3 days of breastmilk that was scheduled for overnight shipping, making it unusable and forcing baby to use formula for the first time. Offered $100 refund as recompense, after a 4 night stay at $300/ night (essentially 8% off), plus their causing the waste of a $400 breastmilk shipping service. My wife stayed at The Emily for a total of 4 nights. The first 3 were for a company trip, where about 30 others were there, and then she added on another night to enjoy the city. This was her first time being away from our 8 month old child overnight, and she set up a service to have her breastmilk overnighted back home. She pumped roughly 9 times, and took the milk to the front desk for pickup through a service called Milkstork. She provided the front desk a shipping label, and asked if she needed to schedule the pickup (it's easy to do through a QR code on the label). She was repeatedly told no, the hotel was happy to deal with all of that for her. Great! Or so she thought. This was Thursday morning, and we slowly realized that something had happened. Called the hotel Monday to figure it out. The manager assured me he'd look into it, and wouldn't you know it! We got a notification that it had been picked up by FedEx while we were working out what happened. We finally got the milk Tuesday evening, more than 3 days after we should have. By this point the milk was no longer viable (it was just in a fridge at the hotel), and had to be thrown away. Not only did this mean that the Milkstork services ($400.74) was a complete waste, but more importantly it meant that our son was now having to switch to formula for the first time in his life, as we were now multiple days behind on his supply for daycare. Formula is great of course, but any parent knows the transition from milk to formula is a complicated emotional process. So a terrible emotional moment for us as parents, and an unnecessary change to our child's health and wellness. When the manger got back to me, after having done "an investigation", he informed me that they would take $100 off our stay, and that was it. The cost of one nights stay was $299, and the Milkstork service was $400, not to mention the other 3 nights of stay with the company. He said that it was my wife's fault for not scheduling the pickup (she was emphatically told not to), and apparently took no issue with the fact that, even in his best case scenario in which my wife was a terrible liar, the hotel had our child's food in a fridge for 4 days without alerting us in anyway that there had been an issue. The manager was very polite in giving this absurd answer, but extremely dismissive of the issue. The lack of empathy was stunning. Clearly he is not a parent, or he would have understood what a huge problem this was. I didn't expect anything crazy, but to offer such a small amount of recompense shows what they think of their customers. Awful and shocking experience.

I booked an accessible standard king room (by mistake). The room was clean but very basic. There was a stocked mini fridge and a coffee pot in the room, as well as a safe and close steamer. The carpet felt industrial and was not plush. The king size mattress sat on a metal frame with no boxspring. The bathroom sink was outside the bathroom and small. It could have used a shelf underneath for a couple's toiletries. The bathroom had a shower that was accessible for a wheelchair and a toilet. Even though there was a closet with plenty of space, there were no drawers to use. I thought this may have been because it's an accessible room but going through photos on their website, I noticed the sink was outside the bathroom for other rooms offered. There's a coffee shop on the first floor as well as a restaurant and bar. The bar had a fantastic bourbon selection. The staff at the hotel was friendly and engaging. I had a bad fall in the room hurt my knee, badly cutting it in three places. Because it was late at night there were no pharmacies open, but the front desk staff gave my husband antiseptic cream and plenty of bandages. They offered to take me to the hospital as well. I chose Emily because it was a three minute walk from a fundraising event I was attending last weekend in the area. All in all, I would stay here again just for the location if I had another event in the West Loop or visiting our kids who live in the West Loop even though it's pretty bare bones basic. I wouldn't consider it a luxury boutique hotel, though. I stay in Chicago quite often in the theater district at a couple of boutique hotels and this one would be the bottom of the list of hotels I've frequented.
