It's hard for a Vicky Bakery to be bad, but this location truly missed the mark. The restaurant was dirty -- tables were left with food on them, and the trash cans were filled to the brim. It did not feel clean or well maintained. I ordered a croissant with egg, and it was very disappointing. The croquettes were stale and unappetizing. I also ordered an assortment of little ham and cheese sandwiches, and they were smashed and not fresh. Overall, the food quality was far below what I've come to expect. The most frustrating part is that there seemed to be plenty of staff present, yet no one was addressing the cleanliness or food quality issues. This location does not reflect the standard that Vicky Bakery is known for. Unfortunately, this experience was a 0 out of 10. From all the TicToc hype I couldn't wait to try Vicky's. The selection was huge, service was pleasant and quick, the store was super clean but the bakery items were not all that. I tried a chicken croquette and it was just ok, then I tried an eclair, it tasted like windshield wiper fluid. It was crunchy which was nice but the filling was dense and the icing was horrible. We had errands to run last Monday out at Westfork Plaza when we saw Vicky Bakery from a distance and knew that we had to stop by here. We were not disappointed. It's a cute little bakery with darling red tables and chairs in their dining area. It smells so good as you enter the store. We were greeted warmly by the staff upon entry. The displays are right there and everything looked so good that it was hard to choose. I wanted my favorites, guava pastelitos and guava & cheese pastelitos. My daughter wanted to try the Cuban chocolate chip cookie. We didn't have time to sit down and eat schedule wise so we did take out. I would've loved a cafecito right then and there. Tucked away in the corner of the plaza, so if you can't find it... look in the corner. I am an original Vicky bakery fan from the 1974 Hialeah first. I was happy to find this one up closer to where I live now. The place was busy, the service is quick. My cafe con leche wasn't very hot. The dining area definitely needed to be tidied up to keep up with the Vicky bakery's I know. I have frequented of course Hialeah, Miami Lakes, Cooper City, Davie, Hollywood and all of those have been clean. So if you own this one, plan on having a team member keep the dining area clean on a regular basis. Vicky prides itself on cleanliness. I grew up going to the Vicky bakery in east Hialeah so I'm always hesitant to try One that isn't in Hialeah lol but this location did not disappoint. It was the usual Sunday chaos, but you get this at any location, and frankly at any well known coffee/ bake shop. It's your typical Cuban bakery with loud talking and lots of laugh. You will find lots of people ordering out or sitting down with their family. I went with my non-Spanish speaking boyfriend and when the lady attending us answered him in English he was so impressed lol This has never happened at the one in Hialeah lol. The ladies and gentleman that work at Vicky's on a Sunday are troopers because they Handle the chaos and pressure so well. Croqueta de Jamon and pastelito is a must when we come here. I will say that the croqueta de Jamon is a consistent flavor with the original location in Hialeah. It's so good. I can never just have one. Huge fan of Vicky Bakery and all of the delicious Cuban pastries! This location is tucked in the Publix plaza and we placed an order of mixed things - from guava and cheese pastelitos to croquetas and pan de bono. The guava and cheese pastelitos were delish! Were they as delicious as they used to be or other locations? Maaaaaaaybe not fully. I will say, same goes for the pan de bono - which wasn't fluffy and more on the dryer side. I didn't try the regular croquetas but we did hear these too weren't as good as they used to be. The tequeños too were a big disappointment. Overall, maybe it's this location that has gone slightly downhill, either way, we got our Cuban pastelito fix that we wanted. One of Vicky Bakery's in Pembroke Pines which is situated in a busy Plaza behind the Costco. The inside has limited table seating including a thin counter with bar stools, but the outside patio allows several more tables surrounded by romantic foliage. The cashier alerted me to sampling of rice pudding which was crazy sweet and thick. The colada was made perfectly and was the right complement to the rice pudding which the wife did not enjoy so I had two helpings lol. We ordered it this past Thanksgiving for our family meal and everyone loved it. IT was the best seasoned lechón we have had in years! My friend and I had a delicious take-home breakfast from Vicky Bakery! When you enter the bakery, there are long display cases full of cakes, pastries, cookies, and baked goods. We headed to the back counter to select our pastries. There was a short line but it moved pretty fast! We placed our to-go order which consisted of cheese, ham, and chicken croquetas; cheese taquenos; guava and cheese pastries; and cortaditos. I will say..the space is a bit cramped with tables and there wasn't a great spot to stand in line or to wait for our order. Our total came to just under $40 which was a little pricey. Everything was delicious though! My favorite was the guava and cheese pastries - they were perfectly fluffy, sweet, and stuffed with melty cream cheese. Been to this location in pines a few times and I'm not convinced this is run by Cubans. The tostada is never perfect. Always way too much butter or "burnt " . The pastries are lacking something also....cant put my finger on it but they are definitely second or third generation pastry makers who don't seem to be happy. What I ordered today was the: -cafe con leche -tres leches -chicken croquetta -pan tostada with butter ( pressed Cuban toast) -pan De Bono - a breakfast sandwich ( Cuban bread egg, cheese + bacon pressed) My highlights were the cafe con leche, Pan De Bono, toast, and breakfast sandwich. Tres leches was solid but not my favorite like some of the other locations I frequent. And the chicken croquetta was pretty salty. As for the inside. The layout was pretty tight with about 15 tables ( an estimate by sight) and widow bar seating along the east windows. So waiting for your good didn't have a clear designated area. Therefore it was confusing when folks came in to order and did not know where the end line to order was. Happy dining y'all! Hope you try some other yummies. A bakery in the Westfork Plaza! You can find many other locations, as well. If you're from Broward/South Florida, Vicky's or any Cuban Bakery is probably a big part of your childhood. Pastelitos, croquetas, and cafe con leches are a few things that come to mind when you think of these bakeries. You can even buy cakes or an assortment of desserts. If you're trying to find a menu with prices, its very hard to come by. I wasn't able to see how much each pastry would cost but from my receipt, a guava pastry is $1.25, meat is $1.50, and croquettas are also $1.25 each. One of my favorite things to get here is their sandwiches, specifically the one with a croqueta in it. They've also added iced cafe con leche to their menus! Both sweet and strong, just like I like my cafe. It can be overwhelming if it's your first time & a bit confusing if you're not sure what to get. The Pembroke Pines Vicky. I think this store may be a franchise, this one is very prominently Jesus-y, I didn't notice those signs posted at other locations. In any case they have a very wide variety of things here and items I haven't seen at the Coral Springs location including baked (a la horneada) empanadas (which I think are a new item) and also "pasta de bocadito" which are little rolls split and spread with a ham and pimento paste (A small flat of them is $10, and are sold by the small flat or just the paste) So if they ask you for "cuantos?" and you say "uno" you get one flat. Last night, Thanksgiving Eve, I came in for a box of pastries for the family and excitedly picked out various (mouthwatering looking) ones. I got back to the house and everyone sampled some of each. What should've been a really fun desert experience for all quickly turned south. The nicest comments were that the flan was burnt and that the cheese and guava pastries and 'elephant ears' were dry and inedible. The worst was being asked if I bought it from a bargain rack. Technically speaking they don't have one of those, though as it turned out, most of their display showcase is one. EVERYTHING I GOT WAS STALE! They deserve ZERO stars, but was forced to give one. This place is hit or miss and today was a miss. Either everything is good or everything is bad. I order 4 Cuban sandwiches, not pressed, and when I got home and took them out of the bag they were all flat and half the bread was gone on one of them. There was icing all over the Saran Wrap. They would have been much better wrapped in the parchment paper they usually come in. I ordered 10 ham croquettes and they were all soggy. They were old. You could tell by the flavor. I haven't tried the paste ties yet. They look ok. I'm hoping for the best. Really, I go there at least twice a week for at least a cortadito, colada, or cafe con leche and depending on who makes it is whether it tastes good or bad. I just don't understand. It pains me to score this rating for Vicky, as this little bakery is near and dear to my heart and what makes up the culture I have been around my whole life. My mom being Cuban, she got me hooked on guava and cheese pastelitos. And this is oddly not to diminish this business...it is to point out small but significant things that I think will be easy (atleast I hope) to tackle. Today I ordered the usual. Yes, two guava and cheese pastries. And a cafe con leche. The guava and the cheese was slim to none. I eat them what is odd to anyone, but I dissect and pull them apart; allows me to savor the deliciousness longer! So not only was the stars of the show having stage fright, but I found the bottom to be way too sticky and stiff. I like that golden crisp but too sticky for my liking. My cafe con leche at first had a strong burnt taste to it but then it was tolerable, especially after putting little bit of sugar. The cleanliness of the place, or lack of, is probably the worst I have seen. Absolutely no napkins where only one of the 6 dispensers had any available. The floors, around the trash where the trays are, and the tables were filthy, crumbs everywhere. I love you Vicky but hopefully we can reunite on better terms! read more
