There was no wait on this very warm August afternoon and we were pleased to be seated inside the cool and beautiful dinning area. We were traveling with three who wanted brunch items. To our surprise, much was available on the menu. The server was very attentive and checked with the chef to assure my strict dietary restriction would be addressed before ordering. Absolutely phenomenal! Located along the river next to the Cotton Exchange, Vic's River Grill is an incredible up-scale place that offers fine dining to Savannah visitors. In fact, General Sherman's senior officers thought the same thing when they dined here in 1864. The dined here so much that they drew a battle map on the wall to discuss over dinner...and it's still there! One can sit inside or outside to dine. Just know that the outside dining is on the street side and not the river side. Nonetheless, the service and food will be excellent! For appetizers, we opted for the crab cakes and calamari. Both were excellent, but I was little surprised to see only one (1) crabcake come out of the kitchen. I wish it would have been a bigger serving since we were sharing among three people. For the main dish, I selected the Salmon...and was blown away. Fresh, flavorful, and hot, the salmon was served over couscous with tomatoes. Simply delectable! Did not realize they put sugar in the salad and the mule I ordered for the drinks had way more sugar syrup than the alcohol. Lol Besides that the overall experience was great. Ordered a crab roll or something for the starter and chicken and lobster for the main course. It was good. Our server was friendly. I even walked out of the terrace to see the river view. read more

We had enjoyed a pretty good dinner at Vic's River Grill and then a roach walked onto our table. We were disgusted and horrified. Our waitress, Missy, was equally disgusted and horrified. However, the manager did not seem to care at all about our traumatizing experience. He came over picked up the roach in a napkin and gave us a weak apology not acknowledging our feelings or the awful experience at all. The chef at the restaurant is evidently very creative. The food presentation is beautiful. The fried green tomato appetizer had a lot of interesting flavors. The shrimp with artichokes, sun dried tomatoes, and lemon cream sauce was okay. The artichokes and sun-dried tomatoes were tough and sauce could have been creamier with more lemon flavor. It would have been nice to have a basket of bread with this sort of dinner. Overall, the food did not taste as good as it looked, but the atmosphere was nice, until the roach showed up. We felt ill after that. The service from the waitress was excellent; the manager was not at all service oriented. The ambiance in the restaurant is nice. They seated us at a tiny table for two near a partial wall. LOL. This place is no where close to how it's rated. The only thing good was the Old Fashion and biscuits. Medium rare steak came as medium wel or worsel. Everyone else's meal was finished and removed from table before my second steak was delivered. So sad from what is supposed to be one of Savanah better restaurants. read more

Walking the riverfront and stopped in here for dinner. The ambiance was great. Hostess came across a little snooty, but our waitress was awesome (wished I could of remembered her name. March 25, the piano section). A nice selection of cocktails and beverages. Low country mule is dangerously delicious. Ordered the fillet and fries. We went to a seafood restaurant and ordered the steak. So, it wasn't that impressive. The meat (even though was cooked perfectly) was tough and bland. The gravy was delicious and helped with the meal. Giz had their chicken meal. The chicken was amazing with the fingerling potatoes. The brussel sprouts were over cooked crispy and drowned in balsamic glaze. Don't pass the restaurant up on our review though. We didn't try their seafood and that might be amazing. read more

The restaurant itself is super cute. We crab beignets were awesome. The she crab soup was the best one we had in the city. It was much "meatier" than other ones we had in Savannah. We had a Caesar salad that was good. We finished our meal with the shrimp tacos which I would not recommend. The shrimp was cooked really well and really delicious, but the tacos themselves were not good. we didn't like the slaw or the sauce on them. read more

This is an adorable spot on river street. I think I could have sat there for hours watching people come and go. We ordered the crab beignets, they were a little oily but still delicious. If you go for brunch, get their Bloody Mary, the candied bacon melts in your mouth. We had a few different servers but that just meant we never had to wait for anything. read more

My mentor, his wife and my partner stopped in at Vic's on the River this weekend after a haunted tour of Savannah. It was after 8, we just wanted a quiet drink and a little socialization. Immediately I was struck by how nice the space was with crisp black and white and a gorgeous bar, tasteful place settings and old school brass draft spouts for an impressive beer menu. My partner and I ended up getting good bottle of Prosecco to share. My mentor and his wife went through drink menu and got interesting and tasty mixed drinks. My mentor's wife is vegan and she's talking to our waitress about how she's struggled to find anything but salads in Savannah. At the same time Kris, one of the soups chefs is walking by and he is sympathetic. He offers to make her a custom pasta dish on the spot with red lentil pasta and fresh veggies. We order another bottle of Prosecco and 15mins later Kris appears from the kitchen with a huge bowl of pasta, featuring fresh peppers and herbs, truffle oil and the freshest pasta. It's one of the 2-3 best vegan things I've ever eaten, as satisfying as it was elegant. It was an amazing dining experience all around and I was honestly moved that Kris decided to not only talk to us but take action and free style one of the best vegan meals I've ever had. 10 on 10, we will be back. read more

This restaurant is a must go to when you visit Savannah. The food is great! I always go to Savannah when I visit Hilton Head Island and like to try different places to eat! We had a family of ten and we all really enjoyed the food and the southern hospitality! I had the pasta special which had salmon, halibut and shrimp with Alfredo sauce! This was such a great dining experience! We ordered the Shecrab soup for an appetizer and it was fantastic. Our main dishes were the grilled shrimp tacos and the catfish Rachel sandwich. Both were amazing. The catfish came with a side of fries and they were the best fries I've ever had. As fast as the soup came out, the main dishes seemed to take a while to come out. The restaurant is beautiful and bright and has a long bar. There is outside seating as well to view the river. I would love to come back and try more dishes. Amazing dinner experience! The ambiance of this restaurant is nothing like any other place I've visited in Savannah- very classy and sophisticated. We had the beef carpaccio for an appetizer. It tasted well but I'm convinced it's the reason I was nauseous an hour after I left. It may have been a bit too rare for me. It was basically thin rare meat with little bagel bites and arugula. Forgot to take a picture of it. I had the salmon. It tasted ok. Nothing special in my opinion. The mahi mahi on the other hand was SOOO good. The reason why this review was 5 stars. I found myself pouring the sauce from my husbands plate onto my salmon. 10/10 recommend coming here just for the mahi mahi. My wife and I were visiting Savannah for the very first time and had been walking around alot looking for a good place to eat. We put our name in at another restaurant about a block away but decided to walk a bit more while waiting for our table when we stumbled upon a great smell coming frim Vics! We cancelled the other reservation and sat down within minutes. The host was very professional as was the waiter. The place was clean and neat and decorated very well. Vic's used to be a special treat, but there was nothing special about our meal there this week. The quality was fathoms below what it used to be. Honestly, I am always hesitant to go eat at places in a tourist area. But I was talked into this place, and was wonderfully surprised. First of all, the hostess Nancy greeted us warmly and immediately tried to seat us by the heavenly piano player... but my husband has a hearing problem and I immediately asked her if she could sit us somewhere quieter. She said "Absolutely!" And found us a quieter table. SO APPRECIATED. Our server was Collin, he knew the wine and beer menu and made excellent suggestions, and then we followed his recommendations for food and we floored. The Crab Beignets are to die for, I wish I could have tried the Fried Green Tomatoes that Nancy suggested.. but we didn't have room after the Excellent Salmon Oscar and the Shrimp Scampi. I will definitely be back. My husband told Collin "he saved our marriage", because of the service and the food, after trying to find a place to eat for an hour... I was about to kill him. read more

The best thing that came out was the kids grilled cheese. Also, $32 for a dozen oysters is seems like a good deal, until you see the size of the oysters -- smallest I've ever seen.
