My first time here is for a birthday party that had a pre-fixe menu for he guests. The Spicy Feta and Caviar dip served with Pita bread were my fav appetizers. I also had the Sirloin Steak which was prepared perfectly. The drinks were flowing - the Victory's Love Potion and Sangria were flavorful and delicious. The atmosphere was very cute and the back area is a nice seating area for anytime of day. Will return to check it out at brunch or another time, maybe a date night. read more

Love this cute little place. I have been there a couple of times. 5 starts for service. They are exceptionally wonderful. The beverages- coffee, lattes etc are very good. My mother and I decided to visit the restaurant in person and were greeted by the warm waitstaff before being introduced to Anna. We instantly fell in love with the outdoor feeling of the backroom and the decorations that accompanied it. Anna took the time to sit down with us and discuss the details involved in hosting an event at the restaurant. She was beyond accommodating and incredibly patient with us. This is a very cute place to have an event. The back garden area looks amazing. I was not able to go there and look at it because there was a bridal shower going on. The food here is so so so delicious! I can't stress this enough. You have to try it out. Everything that we ordered was absolutely amazing. I can't wait to go back and try more items on the menu. Definitely recommend the stuffed peppers with feta cheese - they are so delicious. I will definitely be back. The only thing I want to point out is that for its location and the seating/decor, the pricing is a bit too high. Went to Victory Garden Cafe for Brunch yesterday. Amazing experience. They are following COVID-19 guidelines. Not crowded when I went at 12:00 noon for brunch. Food and service was amazing! This is the first time I've been out since March. Totally felt comfortable and enjoyed the delicious food and amazing service! I didn't want to sit and eat in the street. Let me start off by saying that never have I ever been told that an appetizer that was not served could not be struck from the bill because "the kitchen is busy but they started making it already" until I decided to take my friends to Victory Garden Cafe. I referred to Yelp for a brunch spot that was open on Memorial Day with an outdoors area. It was a beautiful day and we entered in high spirits. The backyard patio area was beautiful. Seats and tables were slightly oversized but it was pretty empty so we didn't mind. We were offered whichever seat we wanted so we chose one that was away from the other two parties. For the sake of clarity, I'll proceed to write this review in timeline form, followed by detailed explanation: 12:00PM: Arrival 12:05PM: Received menus 12:15PM: Water 12:35PM: Ordered drinks 12:45PM: Couple seated next to our party 12:50PM: Received drinks, placed food order 1:00PM: Other couple places their food order 1:20PM: We receive 1 appetizer and 1 entree (party of 5) 1:30PM: Other couple receives all of their food, including one dish that probably should have been ours (Veggie appetizer) 1:45PM: We receive the rest of our food order, sans veggie appetizer. 2:00PM: We finish the food that we received thus far, ask for check, ask them to take off veggie appetizer from our bill. (Request denied.) 2:15PM: We receive check, no apology. Veggie appetizer still not served. 2:20PM: Still waiting for them to take our money 2:30PM: Entire party gets up and pays at the counter. Veggie platter appears in take-out form. It took about 5 minutes before we got menus, another 10 before water was offered. We were off to a slow start, but it was a beautiful day so we didn't mind. While we caught up with each other, we started to feel really hungry. Finally, after about twenty minutes, our drink order was taken. Our orders: two mimosas, one beer, one juice. We received our drinks 15 minutes later and finally were able to order. For those of you still reading and counting this, it took 50 minutes for us to order our food. But the weather was beautiful and we persisted. As a group, we ordered the following: tzatziki dip appetizer, veggie appetizer, an order of french toast, a seafood platter, a grilled meat platter, and a souvlaki. By now, a new couple was seated next to us, bringing the official headcount in the patio to 4 parties. So after we ordered our food, we waited. And waited. Our glasses became empty, our appetites displeased. Finally, after another half hour, the french toast and tzatziki came out. Yes, one entree and one appetizer. For a party of 5. I look over and see that the couple that was seated next to us had ordered the same veggie appetizer that we did and were already munching on theirs. Odd. Well the rest of our food, absent the vegie appetizer comes out, and we dig in. French toast: meh. Tzatziki dip: meh. Souvlaki: dry. Meat platter: dry and overcooked. Seafood platter: not bad, all things considered, but WAY overpriced. Veggie appetizer: absent. So we finish our food and i point out to the waitress that, by now, we have yet to receive said veggie appetizer and we would like to strike it from our bill. She tells me this is impossible since the kitchen already started making it. I said we were done with our meal and we waited nearly two hours already. She said we had the option of taking it to go or eating it now but she would offer no reduction to our bill. Excellent service. I was going to fight it but my friend offered to take it home (he avoids conflict even if the other party is at fault). We paid begrudgingly at the counter because the bill came and nobody came to collect our money. For those of you who sat through this review, thanks for reading. You might notice that I rarely give such negative reviews, but I'm appalled by Victory Garden and strongly urge that you consider going elsewhere. They do not respect your time, your money, or your continued patronage. read more

4 1/2 Stars - made my daughter's bridal shower here in September, a Sunday brunch. The decorations and ambiance were exactly what I wanted. The large indoor garden room has hanging lights, beautiful flowers/greenery and indoor umbrellas in the middle of the tables. Anna the event manager, did everything exactly as we discussed including attaching photos to a string between two vases that I brought in. What a relief it was that I didn't need to do the decorations! The food was good and the service was attentive. I would have given a 5 star rating except the pitchers of mimosas and Victory Garden signature drink was very weak, I think it was mostly juice. read more

Sadly, the vendor was not prepared to assist our party; and was actually sort of rude, when we asked for more ventilation (only had 2 fans). The vendor should be prepared to make the event cool and relaxing for guests, if the vendor is unable to do that, should not book that room!!! I came for a bridal shower and was so excited for some Greek food! Appetizers came out and everything was great! The problem was when the main courses came out. ALL of the waiters were confused and confused everyone's orders, even though they had written them down. People at my table did not get their orders correct the first, second, or third time around. Then the head waiter, I believe, promised those people an extra plate of sides... and never came back. They never cleared the plates from the main course and started serving the cake. I live just a block from this place, and normally love to support local, and especially old-school type businesses. I ate here once and got pastry once. As for the restaurant part...the decor is nice, the indoor garden is obviously a very nice touch, and outdoor seating in the summer is great. As for the food....I got a greek salad (not so great believe it or not), and I think what was called 'stuffed eggplant'. It was actually thick slices of grilled eggplant with a halloumi or something cheese spread on top, and maybe with some sun-dried tomato. Very underwhelming. In fact, none of the food was particularly good. As for their desserts, except for the amazing Artolopis Bakery in Astoria, every other greek bakery I've been to is only good at one thing: traditional greek desserts such as baklava or galaktoboureko, or else simple little cookies. Any other 'fancy' looking desserts they try to do ...cakes with fancy toppings, colors, chocolate etc. is in the opinion of my refined palate, 'garbage'. Came here for a christening July 2013 and fell in love with this place. It's a bakery/restaurant and it has an amazing patio/garden where you and your family will have an amazing peaceful experience. The staff is so nice which allows me to tip them greatly, the food is so good!! Yesterday I had the extreme pleasure of holding my daughter's bridal shower at Victory Garden Café. Anna was most helpful in making what might have been a stressful day go very smoothly. We even had to ask her to totally redo the seating arrangements the night before the event due to the last minute responses and addition of several guests. Nothing phases her and she always responds with a smile. We were told to drop off any items we wanted to display or decorate with in advance so that we wouldn't have to worry about getting things there the day of the event. When we arrived the space was beautifully set up. We were told to let them know if there was anything we needed or wanted and everything ran smoothly. In order to reserve the entire room you have to have a 50 person minimum which we did. Extra dinners were put into individual take-out containers, as promised, and I am enjoying a delicious steak dinner for breakfast as I write this review. Every guest remarked on how tasty the food was and how light and refreshing the strawberry shortcake was and asked how we had found this gem of a venue. If you're looking for a beautiful, welcoming space for a family event, this is the place to go! read more

Victory cafe is a European oasis in the outskirts of Astoria--especially in the summer The people are friendly, and the service is laid back. In true European style, the waiters will let you be and never try to rush you out. They'll never bring you the check unless you ask for it first, and no matter how busy they are, they'll never rush you out. The servings are tasty and plentiful. The cheesecake and biscotti are delicious, but the rest of their cakes vary from week to week. Sometimes they're to die for and other times, they're a little on the dry side. We just had the most amazing bridal shower here yesterday. Anna the coordinator and her mother are just lovely! Anna definitely went above and beyond to make our party special. She printed personalized menus, seating charts and a welcome sign. She worked with us with whatever accommodations we needed, whether it was space or dietary restrictions and was always available for any questions. The staff is incredibly friendly, fast and efficient. They set up all the decorations for us. They were so great with all the guests and were on top of everything, from taking orders, short wait time for food, and anything else that popped up. The food was great and the custom cake they made was amazing! Thank you sooo much for making our party so wonderful. All the guests and especially the bride loved everything. We had our wedding here. That was a mistake. They have a signature drink, the "Victory Love Potion." I am in a mixed-race marriage, and explained to Anna that historically the combination of love, victory, and a foreign bride was heavy on the victory and light on the love. We agreed that she would re-title her drink the "Victory Garden Cafe Love Potion" to make it clear that this was a matter of corporate branding and not my family being awful. Well, they did not re-title the drink, and my in-laws noticed. So, that was a great conversation I had on the night of my wedding. Luckily for me, they're reasonable people. I explained it to the ones who brought it up, and I can only hope they spread the word around. Two stars because aside from that the food was fine, etc. Edit: I showed this to my wife and apparently the food was not fine. The cake was "terrible". I didn't get a slice. They didn't offer us a tasting beforehand, and we didn't ask for it because they're a bakery. We love their almond cookies. Tender, moist, and with that slightly sticky, chewy texture of almond flour. Wow, didn't expect any problems on that front. Ask if they'll let you have a mound of almond cookies instead of cake. read more

They can use work, food is good, servers are pleasant and the lay out is great. Those each get half a star, can't give a better rating when we waited 1 hr and 40mins for our food. This wasn't even dinner, it was brunch which shouldn't take more than 20mins. It wasn't even busy, I think it was less than half full. 1 server running around who kept apologizing and you feel bad for him. The menu is also misleading because it states $10pp for brunch but they actually charge individually for items. I informed them that the menu needs to be updated and take off that advertisement because it's like a bait and switch. Multiple people complained about the bill. Either higher more servers or an extra cook. I won't return or advise anyone to go because you shouldn't order brunch and expect dinner. read more

For my daughter's Bridal Shower we were looking for a venue to hold a Tea Party themed event. We looked at many places throughout Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island to find the right space. This went on for quite some time and my wife and I were getting quite frustrated. A friend suggested we take a look at Victory Garden Cafe in Astoria Queens. We made an appointment to see Anna Sakalis the Event Manager and after a few brief minutes speaking with her, we knew we found the right place! Everything was perfect! She went through the menu options and explained how the space would be decorated and we were sold. She really put us at ease from the moment we walked in. Well, the Bridal Shower could not have gone better. We met with Anna a few days before the party to finalize everything. We brought two car loads of decorations and party favors which she seamlessly and effortlessly merged with her decorations. Day of the party we walked in and the room looked beatiful. Anna and her team really did an amazing job. All of the food was terrific and all of the deserts which are baked on site were amazing. I would also like to give a special shout out to all of the staff at Victory Garden Cafe. Their attention to detail did not go unnoticed. From serving all the guests to making sure each plate was perfect and also helping carry the gifts out to the cars. They could not do enough to help out. If I could give this venue 7 stars I would. I threw my cousin's 40th Birthday here this past weekend, we had the most amazing time. I planned months in advance and had a lot of questions. Anna really was a God sent really she was always a delight in our messages and our meetings. I almost want to keep this place a secret because I do not want everyone to know about it hahah. My theme for the party was black and gold with some elements of Game of Thrones, because the party was for my male cousin I kept trying to come up with a theme. All the details Anna and her staff put into decorating everything. We also had a belly dancer which I think was a great addition. Taken as a whole experience, Victory is not quite victorious. It's located pretty much on the margin of the Ditmars hot-spot, if not a block or two too far away. The place is really two places, a bakery and a cafe (which doesn't know if it wants to be a restaurant or not). I chose the cafe/restaurant because of the late hours and wifi, but on first impression, you're more confused over what's what. The product is really quite good -- they have a wide array of high-quality pastries, cakes, cookies and gelato. The baklava was delicious and it was definitely the most ordinary choice amidst several specialty Greek pastries. Their coffee drinks are assuredly a brand of bitter new to the non-Greek palette. The problems here are ambience and service. When I walked in, I was obsequiously greeted by a woman who treated me like I was some kind of Saudi prince. She anxiously welcomed me in, and drove my decision along with eagerness masked as friendliness. I was more put off by the intensity of her servility than anything else - it was less fake, and more clinically manic. After I was seated, my new server was a guy who looked like he just stumbled in from a real estate office to become a waiter for a night. That's the problem with this place: none of the employees are easily identifiable. I think the curvy lady making out with her boyfriend at a table was a manager or something (yeah, really). Throw on an apron, guys. Wear a name-tag - "Hi, My Name Is Christos" or something. With such a great outdoor space, there shouldn't be folded tables in the corner, a poorly maintained perimeter, and space heaters aimed directly tables. In general, this place just needs a lot more clarity all around. With just a few steps like better ambience and a tidier staff, this could be a top-notch restaurant in Astoria, but sadly, they don't seem to be making the effort. read more

This review is for the cafe, NOT the actual bakery half of the establishment. Honestly, the only thing Victory Garden Cafe has going for it is its appearance and outdoor seating area. The outdoor area is absolutely gorgeous and feels like a complete sanctuary in the midst of bustling Astoria. It's great for groups, and the comfortable cushioned wicker seating, flowing water fountain streams, and nice canvas shade make it the perfect location to enjoy a pastry and coffee while talking with friends during nice weather. ..if only the experience could be enjoyable. The service here is dreadfully slow, even if you are the only person there. I can't emphasize this point enough. S-L-O-W. What's worse, is that the food is either plainly underwhelming or disappointing. Items tend to be dry, and the prices are slightly inflated for the quality you're getting. If the food tasted good, was cooked properly, or at least seemed fresh, the prices here would be decent, but I can't say that's so. Of course all coffee/tea items are exorbitantly priced, as you should expect Greek cafes to be, but there's nothing spectacular about that either. They may have a fancy set up, but as espresso and brewed coffees go, you'll be left with an impression of "meh" after taking a sip. If you're purchasing items to go, be prepared for the nasty attitude from any female employee working there. Apparently, they get upset when -they- misunderstand -you- because "cookie" and "biscotti" are just so similar sounding. They made my visit unbearably uncomfortable after shooting me sharp glares, etc. after politely correcting them. +2 stars for variety of pastries and outdoor area. -3 stars for poor service and absolutely everything else. Are you just in the mood to pick up pastries and go? Then go next door to the actual bakery, Victory Sweet Shop, you'll have a much better time and prices may be slightly cheaper.
