Had my wedding and reception here on 10/19/13. The food was fresh, a few compliants but nothing major (you can never please everyone) but overall everyone had a great time. Worked with Anna to plan the event, she was easy to reach by phone, email ,and in person. Very accomadating to our crazy schedules and the fact that we were planning in under 4 months.It was the last minute details that stressed me out while interacting with Anna, but she remained cool. The venue was affordable (with prices posted on the website) and the additional items (extra time and dessert bar) still was avaible in our modest budget. I went to a bridal shower here yesterday. The back area is a really cute indoor/outdoor spot. I enjoyed my food (got the french toast and tasted the mini spinach pies). The service wasn't bad but the staff could've been a drop more attentive and warmer. When we left a larger party was going on in the front and we didn't really hear any noise from it in the adjacent back which is a plus. The tables are a little tight but it makes it kind of cozy and perfect for a semi-intimate gathering. read more

I had my daughters baby shower here June 16th and loved loved loved everything about it the food was delicious the service was excellent. The owner/event planner (Ana) was very hands on and catered to my every need. They took care of the decorating for me all I had to do was drop off Everything a couple of days before the event and then just show up the day of my event. I'm still getting calls from my family and friends about how delicious the food was. I ordered my cake from them and omg I can't even begin to explain the flavor and freshness of the cake. This is a very cute location to hold a gathering in. I went to a bridal shower of a very close friend of mine. The atmosphere was great, the staff were polite and we had a great brunch. The food was okay, nothing out of this world. The mimosas were good and unlimited, you gotta love that. The cake was very good and some desserts were okay as well. I recommend the space and location, the food not so much. Well at least the dish I had, which was the healthy breakfast wasn't anything I would have again. read more

Anna was great and helped me prepare a small family 50th surprise anniversary for my parents. I had eaten at Victory before several times. Their food AND their pastries are phenomenal !. Had my niece's baby shower here and it went just perfectly. Anna and her staff are just the best...very accommodating and helpful. Food was great and the venue is perfect for baby showers, wedding showers and any kind of occasion you are planning. It's a lovely indoor garden setting with hanging lights and greenery. i had my baby shower at this place and i cant wait to give a 5 star! i booked the place only 2 days before the event yet they managed everything so perfectly. decoration was on point and completely free, the food was too good, freshly made, nicely served, also they didnt charge us anything extra for ordering halal food! servers were well mannered and very helpful and they went beyond our expectations, gave us the best service. i highly recommend this place for arranging parties like birthdays, baby shower, small weddings, bridal shower etc. u have to order the cake from victory sweet shop and trust me the strawberry short cake (semi naked cake decorated with fresh flowers) was so good! i loved their cup cakes and dessert platters. they do catering too. however if you plan to do a party you should contact them beforehand and talk out about the expenses..it cost me around $1600 + for 25 ppl(it has to be a minimum of 25 adult ppl party and then if there r extra kids they will charge kids menue price for kids and adults will b charged full amount). they have many pricing options for the food..starting from $33.99 i guess. but you will be charged the taxes n gratuity so its gonna add up to 30% or more..all over a very nice venue and nice staffs..i will definitely coming back to this place for my parties. the owner anna is a sweetheart and very helping. read more

I was excited and had very high expectations for lunch here. The garden is absolutely gorgeous the pastries awesome the food is decent - when it finally arrives, but portions are very scarce. I think I had 8 french fries on my plate with my souvlaki "sandwich" which only includes souvlaki and pita - no lettuce, no tomato, no onions just meat in pita with 8 french fries. We should have just stuck with appetizers because those were very good - but again, when they finally arrived. I've had bad service in the past, but I can honestly say this is the absolute worst service any of us (party of 8) have ever received. I think we were the first large table they've ever had to accommodate with appetizers, food and drinks. It could not be handled by any means. Place was EMPTY, there were 3 tables with people including us and the other 2 were ordering coffee and pastries...the poor waitress kept repeating that the kitchen was very busy but I don't see how that was even possible, it's more like the kitchen has no clue what they are doing. Our appetizers came out with our meals...meals were not complete, one meal came out after everyone was finished eating. We requested Tzatziki sauce and it came out after we finished eating and we were charged $7 for it - really????????? Not included with souvlaki??? We requested pita bread 5 times, it came out after we were all finished eating. We were begging for our water glasses to be refilled. We had to clean off the table ourselves because nobody else was doing it., so we took all empty glasses and dishes and put them on the empty table behind us. If it's not a bloody mary, mimosa or wine, don't even try and order any drinks during the day, because they outright tell you they don't know how to make it, the bartender comes in at 6PM...OK....how about a whiskey and ginger ale - yes they can do that for $14!!! Yes, that is correct drinks are $14 each. It was really just a very disappointing experience....$400 later. Live and learn...it's really too bad because their garden is gorgeous and the pastries are delicious. Maybe they should stick to pastries and coffee because they are certainly not ready for food and booze. read more

This was always the go to spot for greek pastries for as long as I can remember. Moving forward to my last 2 recent experiences. The first was I went in got 2 pieces of galaxtoburiko foe me and my wife always my favorite got home opened up and began eating it and it was just not good very bland and i was so shocked and upset because they have never let me down in the past I threw out the rest and 2nd piece. 1 week later decided let me give them another shot this time I'll switch it up and get couple pieces of cheesecake. Okay about five steps in the door younger kid almost running up to me and says what do you want said I want to get some pastries and he says okay you have to go next door. I'm like okay even though the items I want are on this side of the business I still go next door. I patiently wait next door for a while no one helping or acknowledging me with nothing that I want in this section to begin with. Needless to say I walked out very upset and will not be back. Plenty of other places in Astoria that want my business than to deal with this. read more

First time I came here was great- large portions for a group of 4, a kind waiter, no complaints. However, the second time I came here as a group of 7, we ordered the same item off the dinner menu but the portions were SIGNIFICANTLY smaller. To make matters worse, the waiter decided to put a 25% mandatory tip on the bill. I believe for parties greater than 6, a standard 18% is the norm in the food industry, but apparently not here. Had the service been worth the 25% tip, I would have no problem paying it, but with the cafe being completely empty on a Friday night, I don't think the 25% was appropriate. I am writing this review on behalf of my mother who hosted my bridal shower at Victory Garden Cafe. Anna was a pleasure to work with to ensure that the shower was perfect. The staff was quick to assist me with helping to decorate the space with the items I brought. The servers were great to make sure everyone's brunch order was taken quickly and the food was prepared and served quickly. There was an error in they way my eggs were prepared (I believe I received someone else's dish), and the server was so quick to take it back and fix it. We never felt rushed to leave after the party, and they assisted us in taking down the decorations. When my husband and the rest of the men came to pick us up, I asked the server if they could serve some of the leftover cake to them, and they were quick to bring it out. I went here a while ago and never got the chance to write a review but now i will . When i went there the service was so slow and it wasn't even busy ..how does that make sense? Every time i got food from there it didn't taste fresh at all. And it seemed very dirty there, i don't know how this place is still running and open. Also the manager is very rude there. I had my bridal shower brunch at Victory Garden Cafe on 9/2/18. Everything went smoothly and beautifully thanks to Anna and her team. The food we ate was absolutely delicious. So much so that my mom and I went there for breakfast again the following morning! Anna was very easy to work with and very accommodating. Communication. Was great and the decorations were on point. We went here for a Vday Dinner. The outdoor garden was decorated beautifully. We had the pre-fix dinner it was also amazing. Lots off food for a great price at $40, we got a four corse meal. I got a salmon and my husband almost a lb of sirloin. The waiters were very knowledgeable and super nice. I came to the victory garden cafe for my favorite cousins birthday! When I first walked in I was so excited to see a beautiful sparkly encased outdoor patio! It had little couches and tables with candles and an amazing garden. The food was delicious!! I got the shrimp scampi and was very happy that they were cooked perfectly and not swimming in an oily butter sauce- they were grilled and lightly brushed with the sauce. The menu did have them paired with lemon potatoes and veggies- instead it came with rice- which was delicious but I really wanted the potatoes- I love lemon potatoes. The desserts were amazing! Very light and flaky. Everyone really enjoyed the victory garden cafe- I'd definitely will be back! I look forward to trying more dishes! read more

I went to Victory Cafe on a weekend for a bridal shower. It was a group of up to 30 people, and we were given the back outdoor area, which was enclosed like a greenhouse. What made it like a greenhouse? The fact that there were plants all around us (nice) and the fact that it was hot like the Amazon (awful.) After complaining for almost two hours about the unbearable humid hot, hot heat, all the staff could come up with as a solution was to give us four fans that circulated air that was akin to a hot subway breeze in an underground station. It was a member of the party that realized that the panels surrounding us could slide open. The food was dry, and was either overly salted or terribly bland. Moreover, the waitstaff couldn't even be bothered to refill the condiments before bringing them to our table. We received empty bottles o ketchup and near empty shakers of salt and pepper. It was 12:30 in the afternoon and the place was empty other than our party. That means those bottles have been empty for quite some time. I don't understand how this place is still open for business. read more

Appreciated the effort in making me a vegan entree- even though it wasn't on the menu!!

While the outdoor seating area was nice, but overall this place is not worth visiting! Ugh, left a bad taste in my mouth. The coffee was tolerable, but the service was not. I felt the service was rude, and disrespectful! The food took over 40 minutes to come out, and it was cold. I noticed my server was out on a cigarette break for 15 minutes, and then saw her rush back into the kitchen, of course to come back with the food about 2 minutes after darting in there, for the food to be cold. Seems it was sitting around for a bit. The bakers are sitting there reading, by the way. This place was practically empty, too. You win some, you lose some! This place is a major dud compared to other Greek places in the neighborhood. Save your money and go somewhere else! read more

We went for brunch, food was delicious and came fast. They have a prefix menu but it does not seem to be a good deal at all when you do the math, it actually cost more. And it says thst it comes with dessert but we didn't get any. The service was slow but they had a huge bridal party in the back so I am not sure it was their fault. read more

I went here yesterday with my parents for Mother's Day. Unfortunately it was not a great experience. We waited an hour to get brunch, which should never take that long and the food was kind of greasy. It wasn't the waitress' fault and she was nice. The place wasn't packed, so we didn't understand why it took so long. Either need more servers or more cooks. They did offer us free dessert due to the long wait. The dessert was better than the breakfast. The place has a great outdoor space and back seating area. However, with all of the other great restaurants in Astoria, I will not come back here and I would not recommend the place to friends or family. Not really a Victory after all. read more

I posted this on their fb page last night but obviously, it was deleted. DO NOT EVER STEP FOOT INTO THIS CAFE! If I could give this place a negative rating, I would. Never have I EVER been so disgusted by a restaurant. We were so intrigued by the fancy decor, we decided to have a friendly gathering here tonight. When we walked in, there were no other costumers. That should've been our first clue! Massive, beautiful cafe but no people? Hmm, something's fishy... My sister sliced open her ham & cheese pie and lo and behold, a FAMILY of MAGGOTS come crawling out of the pie. We showed it to a waitress, she didn't say anything. She was obviously a little taken back. All eight of us got up from our seats and walked out. I guess their pride level is a little too high because we didn't even get an apology! They have some nerve deleting my post about warning the public from eating maggots. After seeing my post, the owner, Anna added me on fb. Talk about professionalism!! Very pretty place - even though we went there on a miserable rainy evening. The waiters are extremely friendly and pleasant. The food though isn't great. Ordered the calamari which came in large chunks and with a very blah marinara sauce. Then we ordered the mushrooms stuffed with crab meat - 6 medium sized mushrooms, also with not much taste. That was a little pricey for $15. The best dishes were the the Victory platter with a large assortment of grilled chicken, cheese and kababs, and the stuffed tomatoes. Dessert was galaktoboureko and boutigas - they both tasted almost the same! The galaktoboureko was nowhere as good as that at Kati Allo (now closed -sadly) in Bayside. read more

We gave my sisters bridal shower brunch here on Sunday. I must say the food was great, decor great and service exceptional. Anna and her staff were great and very attentive. As guest arrived the staff were right behind them asking if they needed anything. Also due to the weather not being so great and we booked for outside, they made arrangements in advance to move our party to the inside where we would all be comfortable. My wife and I actually held a baby shower here. let me just say the party planner (cannot remember her name) is very professional and very helpful. She knows what shes doing. the staff is very friendly as well. That being said, we hosted a party for 60 people, including kids. we had a set price per person, etc. no alcohol was included except for wine but the bar is very conveniently located. the set up was really nice, the place is a bit small so to get our its a bit difficult. over all its a nice place. The reason why I'm giving this place only 3 starts is because I was rather disappointed with what they were charging for mixed drinks at the bar ($16 and up). I don't even pay that much for drinks in Manhattan. I understand this is a business and businesses have to make money. I totally get that. But you'd think that after spending nearly $3K on a party and when it came to playing some games during the baby shower and I asked the waiter for a pitcher of beer I didn't expect a check for $22. Clearly, my business motto is take care of the customer and they'll take care of you. $22 is not going to make or break the business nor me. but something like that does stick to the customers head for when they're planning their next event. I will not use this place again. Also, it wasn't just that 1 occurrence. we had a set price for adults and kids. One of the kids decided to order an "adult" meal and they billed me for that as well. Now, I didn't make a fuss or say anything at the time because its a party and didn't want to get my wife upset. but, if you're going to charge me for a kid that ordered an "adult" meal instead of a kids meal shouldn't you have refunded me for the kids meal that the kid did not order? 1 last thing. we brought a lot of our own decorations including a huge back drop that we did not take back with us after the after. and I understand its not the venue's fault but they could've called and told us to pick it up the next day or so. instead when my wife called for the backdrop they advised her they didn't have it. read more

The only reason it gets two stars is because of the outdoor area. Gorgeous. But unless you're doing coffee or dessert, stay away. I waited 82 minutes (yes I had that much time on my hands to count) for a sandwich. A sandwich! One waitress or the entire outdoor area. She was frazzled. Misheard my order. After 45 minutes she brought out a sandwich and when I said I ordered smoked salmon (the fitness baguette) and this was a burger (the fitness burger) she was confused. Didn't apologize when she said she misheard me. So I wait and wait. Meanwhile people who were seated LONG after I sat down got their food, while I waited another 40 minutes. An apology and an offer of a free drink while I waited would have been nice. It was just a sandwich, nothing that should take that long. It came out (decent, of course at that point I was very hungry) and then I asked for the bill. She apologized and offered dessert. I said no, just the bill. She insisted on dessert to go. But she didn't bring me a menu, so the only thing I could think of was baklava. Brought me that. And then my bill. Which made me laugh out loud. They engage in rounding. My sandwich was $11 plus 98 cents in tax, plus 2 cents for rounding. Unreal! That's illegal. Sigh. Again the outdoor area is very nice but I would have rather decided to stay there for that long - not be forced to stay there because of inadequate staffing and service. read more

where to begin.this was for my bridal shower ..everything was planned a bit last minute since my original venue i had chosen failed me and was very inconsistent with their communication.. i came across victory garden cafe through yelp so i emailed them and right away i received a response from Ana she agreed to meet with me and go over pricing which was great she made everything easy to understand and gave me many options when it comes to decorations.The day of the event everything went great i didn't have to worry about anything .. the cake was perfect exactly how i wanted it and everyone loved it !! the food was delicious and the drinks too!. They even helped us with loading my gifts into the car which was very nice of them since they didn't have to do that. So if you are looking for a place to have an amazing time and event do not hesitate ! Ana is awesome and so is the rest of the staff. A long overdue review as I have a sec to catch my breathe with all the events going on for year end! We went with Victory Garden Cafe to host our bridal shower event (11/11/18) based on all the positive reviews I read and I am so grateful for it because Anna and the staff were truly amazing! We had a tight timeframe to work with but Anna was extremely organized and accommodating throughout the entire process. We had a few hiccups with our guest list (nothing to do with the venue) but worked through it with Anna and the shower came out beautiful! Anna was so sweet, she knew we had a tight budget but never treated us any less, she even offered us complimentary items when she could and made us feel so welcomed the entire event. As being a veteran to bridal parties, I have experienced my fair share of stress when planning these events. But Victory Garden Café (especially Anna) took a lot of that stress away, not having to worry about the decorations/decor was the best thing ever...all I had to do was confirm our number of guest, select our food options and show up! :O) Everything was done to a T, everyone (especially the bride to be) was extremely grateful and happy with the venue, ambiance, and experience!
