Stopped in earlier this week when the Starbucks drive-through line was too long (I know, I know--I'm usually there every workday you can judge me)! But not anymore. I walked into Victrula and was instantly greeted with a smile from Kim, who has that quintessential Seattle vibe I love. I was having a rough morning, and her smile was contagious, she gave me more than just coffee, she genuinely brightened my day. And the coffee? Hands down better than Starbucks. Kim is down-to-earth, genuine, and actually takes the time to connect in a way you just don't find at the big chains. It's rare to meet someone who makes you feel like more than just another customer in line. This spot has officially made my list of must-frequent places. I was walking from my hotel to Pike's Place Market and Seattle Coffee Works was on my route. I love local coffee and stopped in for a cappuccino. The casual vibe is nice, and the coffee is decent. As with everything in Seattle, the prices were ridiculously high. My coffee was prepared fast and accurately, but I was disappointed when my coffee "to stay" was served up in a paper cup. I really, really hate when coffee bars do this, as I prefer my espresso in proper ceramic cups with saucers. It's a big pet peeve of mine, and it costs the place two stars. Always put to-go coffees in paper, but NEVER when your customer is going to enjoy their beverage onsite. Maybe it was the particular beans or roast the day I visited, but I wasn't a fan of the espresso. It was hearty and felt almost thick, but the flavor was off-putting. The ratio of foam to coffee wasn't good, and my cappuccino was more like a latte (just no real foam to speak of). There was a heart art on top, which is always lovely, but that should be expected in Seattle because everybody does it. The seating is minimal and uncomfortable, making this an unappealing place to hang out. It's not the type of coffee house where you can set up an office and sit and work all day, it's kind of a quick chat and go variety. There are lots of green plants (both live and artificial) that were oddly soothing, and large picture windows that open so you can enjoy the fresh air on sunny days. This spot was a really lovely ambiance for working or reading. The natural lighting is quite good. The staff are also very friendly and helpful and they're quite efficient. Another spot that drew me in due to the high reviews. I went basic to be safe and ordered a latte with hazelnut syrup. Coffee tasted watered down and lacked flavor. Server was super monotoned with a low voice level. The place was super humid inside, with flys hanging around in the middle of the shop. Based on my experience, It almost felt like the coffee wasn't made with love. I was more sad about my experience than upset or disappointed. The local coffee spot that we frequent was about to close, so we decided to finally give Seattle Coffee Works a try. We bypassed this place so many times because I was under the impression that it just wasn't unique, or good coffee. Admittedly, I was wrong. Just their drip coffee that was probably made a few hours ago, was really good! Roasted and brewed just right. Didn't taste over (or under) extracted. Seattle Coffee Works was a convenient cafe to pick up a quick coffee that wasn't Starbucks in the Pike Place Area. They have a HUGE space just a block up the hill from the market with plenty of tables and seats. I got an oatmilk chai which was pretty good. I would say that it was a little more on the spiced side of the chai spectrum - I typically prefer my chai lattes to be somewhere in the middle or a bit on the sweet side. Not a cozy coffee shop, but it's located in a convenient location only like a couple block away from Pike Place and most of the hotels in downtown. Their cappuccino is good. I'd recommend quick grab and go for this place. They don't have much pastries or food here, so I'd recommend going to Fresh Flours, Mr. West, or Starbucks Reserve if you want some good pastries. The service was neutral. Not super friendly, no dogs allowed, but you get your coffee quick. So that's not a problem most of the time. read more

We came here on our way to pikes market because the Starbucks line was out the door. Glad we did because the coffee was brewed well per my husband. One caveat of this place is they only take credit card but also accept apple and android pay too I believe. I ordered the matcha latte and it was half sweetened but next time I think I will do full sweet as the matcha taste was strong. But luckily this is a coffee shop otherwise I would be questioning the cleanliness of the food. I'm not sure why this place is so well rated. The seating is not comfortable and it doesn't feel like the kind of place you would sit and chat with a friend. It's more like a tourist trap being so close to Pike Place. My cappuccino was also subpar. Since this place roasts their own beans I expected better but the espresso part of my drink had too much acidity. I LOVE the coffee here. It's a bit more expensive than average for Seattle - but I love how they have stories of the farmers who grow their beans around the shop. Makes the extra dollar worth it! Only docking a star because the space itself could be a little better in my opinion.
