I have been in here a few times and have always enjoyed my visits. The 1st time I stopped by, it was a couple of years ago when I was a tourist to the city. I had come in here with my cousins and I watched them enjoy a pour over. The 2nd time I came in, it was around the holidays, and I bought a couple packs of coffee beans to give as Christmas presents. I also bought a tin, which is part of their tin club, and that gave me a voucher for a free drink, which I chose to save for later. One of my friends texted me after using their beans, and she said it was awesome coffee! Cute shop on the edge of Pike Place! I had a seasonal drink, the lavender lemongrass latte, and I wasn't a huge fan. I tasted a hint of lavender, but the lemongrass was really overpowering and kept me from actually enjoying the latte. A little too bitter. We took a free tour of the Pike Place Market, which of course included some mention of Starbucks as the market is where it all started. I asked the guide which is his favorite coffee shop and he recommended this place. While Starbucks has a line out of the shop, this place, even though it's a short distance away, is rather quiet as we walked in. Besides coffee, they also have the usual baked goods, pastries, sandwich and the like. For coffee, they also have a slow bar, where you can opt to have your coffee made in different gadgets: aeropress, hario, cremix, vacuum, whatever you consider the best way of having coffee and have the time for it. The coffee is definitely high quality, the scone is delicious and so huge we didn't finish it - especially as we plan to explore other eateries in the market. Definitely a good alternative if you are not gungho about getting a coffee at the very first Starbucks. read more

Yes. Seattle is synonymous with Starbucks and vice versa. But the Seattle coffee scene is so much more, and Seattle Coffee Works is a perfect example of that. It's perfectly situated across from the public market, but as soon as you open the door, you leave all the touristy noise behind and step into a legit coffee shop. The digs are chill and comforting, the butter yellow walls somewhat relaxing. They have lots of drink and food selections. I got a soy mocha and my friend got a raspberry italian soda and both drinks were very good. My mocha was made perfectly and the espresso tasted nice and smooth. No knock on Starbucks of course as I visit their locations often. But there's something about local coffee shops that churn out delicious coffee (and other drinks). This coffee place was ok - nothing too special. The coffees were decently priced but you'll still spend around 5 dollars for a cup of coffee. I got a cold brew with vanilla syrup, the coffee tasted pretty acidic to me and slightly bitter. When an iced drink was up at the counter I asked the barista if that was my cold brew and she dismissively just said "I thinkkkk" and I just took it. When I got back to the office I was forced to put some almond milk inside while I was hoping to drink it black. Wasn't too crazy about my experience or my drink. read more

Awesome spot to sit down and grab a coffee. I was pleased to see how many charging stations they had as I was in need for a little bit of battery life. I sat down along the wooden bench row at a table for two, plopped down my fruit, flowers and purse, plugged in, adjusted the seat pillow, put my legs and feet up and relaxed for quite a while. This is a lovely coffee shop to do so at. My latte was great and I will certainly keep them in mind for the future, with a Starbucks on every corner around here (and me not being a fan) I was sure happy to have Seattle Coffee Works within walking distance of the market. Needing a reprieve between lunch and dinner on my full day at Pike Place, I came to Seattle Coffee Works on a recommendation. I was intrigued by this vacuum pot method that I was told about. Walking up to the counter I was greeted by a very friendly server who walked me through all of the options they offer and just how the vacuum pot system works. Although a bit expensive at $10, I wasn't going to leave here without trying it. When I ordered it I was pleased to find that they had multiple roasts available as well, and I always enjoy having the option to choose. I opted for their darkest Kenya roast and had a seat at the special bar they have for the people who order the vacuum pot. Watching it being prepared was fun and the server brought out the timers, thermometers and gadgets needed to get it exactly right. I won't go through the entire brewing process but I will note that it was definitely different and interesting to watch. The end result was a very large amount of coffee, so much so that a carafe was needed to hold it all. This made me feel much better about the cost. It tasted almost like a coffee version of tea, with a much lighter finish that made me glad I chose the darkest roast. Overall, I really liked this place. The service was friendly and accommodating, the interior was nice and comfortable and the vacuum pot brewing was an experience you don't generally encounter. read more

Great cafe for the coffee snobs I am a coffee addict but I am not a snob. Here at SCW I had my first experience with vacuum coffee maker... very cool stuff. They barista took his time to educate us about their coffee beans and how he brewed the coffee with that fancy vaccum pot. We came here on a cold Sunday morning to meet our guide for the Pike Place food tour. The coffee here is the best I have ever had so far even though I am not a heavy coffee drinker. We also shared a wonderful cranberry scone which was less dense than what I am used but really delicious.
