I was feeling like Asian for lunch with my daughter today, and we settled on Vietnamese. Viet Aroma is close by in Vienna, and I didn't feel like trekking to Eden Center in Falls Church, or dealing with parking at Mosaic for Four Sisters. So, we decided to give Viet Aroma a try. Very glad we did! Back story - I went on a 2 week vacation to Vietnam with my brother this spring (2014). We visited Saigon, Hoi An, Hue, Ha Long Bay and Hanoi. While in Hanoi, our tour guide took a few of us foodie, adventurous types to a street food Bun Cha restaurant - WOW! We were hooked, seriously. Lo and behold, Viet Aroma has Bun Cha Ha Noi on the menu. I don't see that often at other Vietnamese restaurants in the area, since so many proprietors are from Saigon and South Vietnam. What is Bun Cha Ha Noi? It has several key ingredients - rice noodles, lettuce for wrapping, herbs (mint and basil), grilled pork patties and grilled sliced pork, served in a lukewarm dipping broth. Method of eating: dip some noodles in the broth, place on lettuce wrap, place pork on wrap, then herbs, roll up, place in mouth and nosh. It's OK to close your eyes and savor the interplay of flavors. Repeat. Does it match my memory of Bun Cha in Hanoi? Almost. They get a lot of things right here. What was missing? The little Vietnamese grandma sitting by the charcoal hibachi pulling fresh grilled pork to go in the broth, and finely sliced Thai bird chilis for those that like a little more fire. Price? ~$11.00 - Reasonable and good value for the money. Although when you're in Hanoi, it's only about $2.00. Of course, in Hanoi you can also buy a steaming bowl of pho for $1.50, and bottle of beer to wash it down for $1.00. My daughter ordered the lunch box grill with grilled chicken skewers, rice and salad. She loved her lunch and would definitely come back. We will definitely return to try some of their other unique dishes! read more

We went at 3pm when it was empty. Service was great, prompt, and friendly. We got the crispy spring roll to start and that was good. Hubs got chicken pho and it tasted like salty chicken stock with powdered onion and didn't have any other spices. I had caramelized fish clay pot. It wasn't caramelized at all. No flavor and thin "sauce". It was overpriced and I'll definitely not go back but they were really nice and that counts for something. read more

Viet Aroma; I like it, but I don't like it. A hard one to explain. I've eaten here twice. The first visit I tried their pho. It wasn't horrible, but it was much pricier than the places I go to on the regular. What really sparked my second visit were the egg rolls. They were uniquely crispier than other places so it made me wonder if some of their other dishes were unique as well. The second time I ordered their "Vietnamese" Steak & eggs which the server assured me was very popular. To my surprise, I receive a plate of KOREAN short ribs w/ rice and a fried egg. Now even though their authenticity meter took a major blow, I did very much enjoy my meal. My girlfriend had the Bo Kho "Beef stew" which was a bit bland. If you live in Vienna, this is a good option if you don't want to make the trek to Eden center or elsewhere. It was okay, and would scratch my itch for a Vietnamese if I absolutely had to have it and didn't want to deal with making the trip I mentioned above. As for quality and authenticity, I wasn't blown away. I was almost disappointed, actually. They were out of the crispy spring rolls. The summer rolls were bland and some of the veggies inside were starting to look a little sad. The lettuce wrap platter that I got was nothing to write home about. The biggest highlight of the experience was the server, who was on the ball the entire time and hustling, as she was the only person that I saw working out front. Would I be back? Not if I was up to making a 20 minute drive to Eden. Even the mediocre places at Eden would top this place for me. read more

Excellent option for Vietnamese food in the Vienna area! If my understanding of the Vienna area is correct, there really isn't any other option for Vietnamese food (unless you count Pho N More as Vietnamese) in a 2-3 mile radius. Armed with this knowledge, Viet Aroma really could have opened an average shop and expected a regular following. But, quite the contrary is true! I've been 3 times now: twice for lunch and once for dinner. I love that they have a lunch menu to cater to all the weekday working clientele in a rush. I am so impressed by the pho and the cleanliness of this pho joint---I mean, who has been in such a gorgeously decorated pho/Viet restaurant? Definitely a great lunch place to go with coworkers or dates that love pho. This place also has wifi, just ask. I am also very happy with the polite and helpful staff! I also like that instead of having dirty bottles of hoisin or sriracha sauce, they have it in a little, square jar setup. I am so glad I happened upon this place, I'll be coming back. It looks very sad. she told me the total and she says $30 and I'm like $30. if it was gonna be that much I would've never got the food to begin with because $30 is crazy for what I'm getting and she's like yeah you can take a look at the receipt kept offering me for the receipt, but never printed it out im like ok cool so I'm just like you know what I don't want the shrimp fried rice anymore I'll just get the two eggrolls and she rolls her eyes as if I'm just boring her just has an attitude from the beginning so she's like you know what I'm a see if I can give you a discount so she told me the new price she's like 27 I had already made up my mind and said I don't want the shrimp fried rice anymore. Just ordered their summer roll and it was pretty good. They were friendly towards me. I ordered take-out and they prepared everything pretty quickly. I also liked their pineapple coconut boba drink. Haven't gotten to the noodle soup yet so I can't comment on that for now ;). I would recommend them; you should give it a try and form your own opinions. I just heated up the noodle soup (was in fridge overnight) and it was good. Good, casual pho place! Got the spicy seafood pho, and it was the perfect meal for a cold day. They are very generous with the amount of seafood they put in the pho compared to other spots, so you will leave stuffed. The waiters here are very nice too and super attentive. Update: Yelp has some informative reviewers, that's for sure! I learned the raw meat is served with the soup under the guise that you will add it to the soup and then heat it up. Hmmm- not sure I like the sound of that! ;-) To each their own but I will definitely order vegetarian from now on. I ordered some take-out here last weekend while I was recovering from flu 2k15, and I am afraid I was a little confused... when I got home, I discovered that there was a bag of uncooked meat in my order (steak I presume, since that is what I ordered with my Lemongrass Pho), by which I was completely perplexed. I ended up throwing it away the next day because I was still not feeling up for cooking- and didn't have the energy to cook it up, which would have been odd to begin with- especially since it didn't specify anywhere on their menu that you would receive raw meat. Like I said, I may be confused and perhaps that is a delicacy. The soup itself- raw meat aside- was pretty flavorful and came with all the usual suspects- sprouts, green peppers, some sauce on the side. All in all, I may order the Lemongrass Pho again, minus meat this time. This is a restaurant I should probably give another chance, given the initial circumstances. Our server was very pleasant, too our orders quickly and delivered or w did in a good time as well. It is also good to note that it was not crowded at all, so we were seated immediately and experienced no long wait for anything. There were many options on the menu, and everything tasted pretty good. It did not blow my mind... But it was warm and tasty food, well come and presented. Love, Love, Love this place. Very small space, but nicely decorated. It's never been very busy when I come (not sure why since the food is divine!). The crab rangoon is the best I've ever had in my life. It's not very greasy, and the wrapper is so delicate. It's chock full of crab, with not too much cream cheese. We like to enjoy it while dining in, (take out gets a little soggy). Also, the caramelized shrimp is one of my favorite dishes to order. My only beef is there isn't enough shrimp to share. The highlight is the silvered pieces of fresh ginger in the dish. It's lightly sweet, with a strong ginger flavor. Just writing this is making me want to run over there and grab lunch! This is my first time eating here. The restaurant had two customers when I arrived for lunch time. I wanted the booth but was told no, I asked again and the waiter agreed after with an attitude. I order the P1 Pho, it was a good amount of noodles and meat. Sadly it was so salty and I couldn't enjoy the flavors of the soup. There was only one server as more people arrived. When leaving I wanted to take something cold on the go, to get rid of the salt in my mouth. The bubble tea was charged fully even though they didn't have the tapioca pearls. We went for lunch and got their lunch special for $10.50. Beware that it's not really a special deal. They advertise that they you get a choice of summer rolls or crispy spring rolls and ginger salad plus with choice of two entree. The vermicelli entrees were either $7.95 or $9.95 depending on whether you got tofu/chicken or shrimp, respectively. The rolls are about $2 each. I asked where the ginger salad was and the waitress pointed to the pieces of lettuce and vegetables in the vermicelli bowl. Isn't there normally lettuce and vegetables in vermicelli bowls anyway??!!!
