Really glad to have a solid PHO place in Town. This is located in the old "Serenity" carry-out joint, refurbished with a modern looking interior finish. The staff is very friendly. The PHO itself is quite tasty featuring an excellent broth. They currently only offer one size, which would equate to a large in most other PHO places. The PHO is more generous in the amount of meat provided than most, though you are paying $8.70 + for the bowl, significantly more than a large bowl in Falls Church. Same applies to the Crispy Spring rolls ($4.70) and Coconut Juice ($3.45), both very good but each item about 15% higher than I usually pay. They do offer a weekday lunch special for $10.85 which includes an entree, a spring roll, salad and rice. However, this special does NOT include any PHO. No Pho special at a very special Pho Restaurant? That is a new restaurant mistake that needs to be corrected! Just sub in a 3-meat Pho in exchange for the protein and rice and you will see me on a regular basis! read more

I went here for dinner twice now. The first time was many years ago and i remember getting the bun bo hue. I love their free crispy springroll when you check in. Unfortunately it has crab and if I didn't ask, my wife would have had to suffer! So, i really wish they'd let you know about any potential food allergies. Not all places has crab in their spring roll, so they really should specify that. Anyway, So that was the on star taken off. But other than that the food is great! We all got the Bun Bo Hue. I must say, that its GREAT! Broth is super flavorful, and full of spicy goodness. Also, its not that oily. They use the perfect noodles and the perfect pieces of meat. My one gripe is that it doesnt come with pork knuckles!!!!! I really really love pork knuckles and gnawing on it. Although they dont have it, they MIGHT. I did not ask so I'm not going to take a whole star off because of that. It's really flavorful as it is and it'll clear your sinus RIGHT UP! I view pho the way I view pizza and sex: even when it's bad, it's still pretty good. Which is not to say the pho at Viet Aroma is bad by any means. If I lived around here and didn't have any other options for Vietnamese , I would probably be a regular at this place. However, pho restaurants are fairly plentiful in the Maryland/NoVA area, and the version they sell here is not anything special. The meat came out fully brown already even though the menu said it would be red to be cooked in the broth. The soup wasn't quite as hot as I like it, and the portions were a bit small for the price. The steamed dumpling appetizer was ok, but the dumplings were a bit on the thin side considering they cost about as much as the pho. On the other hand, the service was very friendly and attentive. The waitress was warm and I had a nice conversation with the cashier regarding their pho challenge, where if you apparently eat a large bowl in under 15 minutes, the pho is free! I probably won't come back here just for the pho, since there are just too many better options closer to me, but I may return one day to take on the eating challenge. Very solid and much-needed Vietnamese option in Vienna! The first time I went, our whole group decided to try their pho. It's not the best I've ever had, but it hit the spot and is definitely the best place I've tried so far in Vienna. It is my new go-to if I want something quick and closeby (replacing Pho Thang Long). We also ordered the fresh rolls, which were great (sauce was good too). I wasn't extremely happy with the pan-fried dumplings appetizer we ordered, only because it was not what I expected. It seemed to be deep-fried rather than pan-fried, making it a little too oily/fatty for my diet. That being said, it was still delicious (just not very healthy). Also want to mention that we were those annoying people who kept peeping over at other tables to see what they ordered. Everything looked so good, and mid-way through we started regretting that we all ordered pho instead of mixing it up and sharing a few different dishes! In particular, I was lusting after the claypot items (i am currently trying to recruit friends to go soon so I can try their caramel claypot fish). The decor is also very nice. We ordered a variety of food using the Yelp ordering feature - it worked, but next time we'll call to save time. When I arrived the food wasn't quite ready so the very friendly staff offered me a drink and a seat while I waited. Of the 5 dishes we ordered, the Hanoi pork was my favorite. We also ordered the Lotus Salad - it was tasty, but the Shrimp Chips had lost their crisp - I'm not sure if they were stale or if they got moist and then dried out - either way they were inedible. I just ordered 2 dishes, pork basil fried rice which was cold and dry and the pork wasn't cooked properly and the crispy chicken shrimp dumplings weren't crispy at and all and they were squishy, soft and cold! One of the best places in Vienna to grab some delicious pho! I got mine with brisket, steak and meatballs and the broth was exquisitely tasty, I didn't have to put much Siracha nor hoisin sauce to make it taste better. We also got the summer rolls and fried egg rolls - both were outstanding! The service is good enough, not luch conversation but I don't mind that. That just couldn't be the norm based on the quality of our service and food. I ordered online for pick up. When I got there, the staff promptly greeted me, was very friendly, and assured me that my order was being made so as to be hot and fresh at the pick up time. I was offered a beverage while I waited the few minutes. It was ready exactly when I specified. We ordered the beef pho (one spicy and one not), as well as the chicken salad. When I eat pho I always order the fully loaded one but this time i wanted to try the chicken pho, not a good idea!! Viet Aroma looks like a decent place - the restaurant itself is nicely decorated and cozy. I wanted to like it. That being said, the food just doesn't measure up. I got the fried dumplings (shrimp and chicken) and the steak pho. The dumpling platter came out with a lot of dumplings, maybe 8 or so, but they were pretty much mostly wrapper w/a bite of the filling in the middle. I think the filling could have been OK, but since there was so much wrapper (though they were pleasingly crispy) the whole dumpling basically tasted like crunchy fried oil. It came with a sauce, but the sauce was very mild and added little to no flavor. The pho itself was nothing to write home about. The broth was sweet, with none of the herbiness or meatiness that makes pho so tasty good. Meat was lean (which I like), but the portions aren't comparable. I'd say the portion was comparable to other places' small size, but the price was comparable to other places' large size. The sauces (hoising, sriracha, chili) were all in cute little pots with tiny spoons on the table top, which looks really cute, but not user-friendly for interactive folks like me who like to add LOTS of sriracha with intermittent dollops of hoisin. Bottom line, the pho market is super saturated and ultra-competitive! Unless you can stumble hungover to this place, there are other places more worth a visit. read more

That is something that I've had a hard time finding after I had it years ago. Can I say I'm glad I found it and better that it was just as good as I remember. I had a small bowl of one of their special soups, Tamarind Okra Shrimp. The broth was fabulous and the vegetables and shrimp equally good. I also had a small beef salad - the best version of this Vietnamese restaurant staple that I've had. Instead of the usual dull lettuce (some restaurants even use iceberg!), they used watercress - definitely kicked it up a notch. The dressing was perfect and just the right amount of peanuts. I had Viet Aroma Bun Special for $14.30!!!! Other than the fact that it came in a prettier bowl than most other Viet restaurants, this dish simply wasn't worth the price. Shrimps were not fresh, seasoning on beef wasn't good, egg rolls were so-so...I mean it was pretty disappointing. Sorry, the warm hand towel after the meal doesn't justify their price. I really enjoyed my meal here and was shocked to find a hole in the wall vietnamese restaurant. They have a wide variety of food here and the interior design is very beautiful. The place is very clean and the prices for the food are reasonable. We had an extremely nice waitress who gave us quality service and made us feel very welcomed. I for some reason prefer egg noodles over the vermicelli and every time I have ever ordered the noodle dishes, they always have allowed me to substitute to egg noodles. This may not seem like a big deal but I have been to Vietnamese restaurants where they would not allow that. My boyfriend always gets the pho and every time I try the broth, it taste so delicious and flavorful. At the end of our meal, they handed us hot towels to wash our hands which was such a unique experience I have never had before. That was just an awesome way to end our meal. Couple things to keep in mind, they are closed on Mondays, parking is better in the back lot, and anything To-go will be charged an extra $1 (I think it is for the material they pack the food in). Because when I tried their chicken drunken noodles (medium spicy which is pretty darn spicy) I fell in love. I had the "pho your way" with steak, flank, and brisket. The soup isn't as rich as the soup in other pho places in my opinion. Also just a minor detail but they have metal chopsticks which kills your hand when trying to pick up noodles.
