I haven't tried everything in here yet but everything I tried have been pretty good. At work, they have cater services and build your own Viet bowls was one of the food choices we had. So I didn't hesitate going to Vietnoms for my bowl. They also have other items such as build your own sandwich too but having tried the vermicelli noodles, Im set just eating that. I don't have much complaint for the food, it was very good. I wish the "food court" itself had more seats especially since during convention times, it gets very packed. I absolutely loved Vietnoms, and it started with my interaction with the guy that was preparing my food. We started to chat, and he explained that his big brother had started the restaurant, and the food was literally taken from his mother's recipes. He genuinely explained that the food that they serve tastes like what he eats at home whenever his mom makes dinner. Hearing that got me very excited; nothing like eating something that really tastes like a home-cooked meal. I don't know about any other Vietnamese food other than pho and banh mi, so I was a little concerned when I ordered the rice bowl. However, dude walked me through it and I really enjoyed the meal. The food was full of flavor and tasted fresh. I don't have much experience and don't know how "authentic" it tasted but I personally did enjoy it. I read other reviews that said there were better options, but honestly this one tasted really great! I highly recommend. My friend and I stumbled upon this place on Yelp and decided we needed to check it out. With a name like Vietnoms, how could you not?! It was within a few blocks of the hotel we were staying at Downtown which was nice. It's located inside the SoFa Market along with some other food and drink vendors. They serve up dishes somewhat Chipotle style with a Vietnamese twist. You can chose between a base of vermicelli noodles, rice, salad or bahn mi. I decided to go with the vermicelli bowl with tofu and substituted the egg roll for a fried egg. I did appreciate they were cautious about the sauce since it was fish based, but since I am pescatarian it still worked out fine. The flavors were unique and delicious. The only thing I would have liked was a bit more sauce, but the tofu seasoning was too die for. I highly recommend checking this spot out if you're around the area. So I didn't have to wait in line very long, my friends and I went during a Sunday afternoon/night to watch the Warriors Game (Game 2) and then go watch a concert at the Ritz afterwards. Just waited like 5 minutes for the people in front of us. I got the vermicelli bowl with half chicken and half tofu. The chicken was delicious! I don't know what they use to season it but it was so good and the tofu was delicious as well. My auntie got the pork and that was tasty as well. Next time, I'm going to ask for more of the fish sauce mixture because I needed a bit more. The price is a bit higher compared to another Vietnamese restaurant but I still got full off of it. I finished the whole bowl and I didn't have to because I was really full. Seating wise, you can pretty much sit anywhere in the SoFA because it's like a small food hall/public market type of place. Parking can be hard. On Sunday, metered parking is free I believe, but other than that it's either street parking (that on other days besides Sundays and holidays will have something like a 2 hour limit) or there are parking lots which don't charge too much. Watch out for streets that require permit parking as well. So just read all the signs around you/on that street. read more

While I was in San Jose for work, we decided to stop into the SoFA Market. While walking around and taking in the varieties of foods offered in the market, I came across Vietnoms. I really liked the name. I also like rice bowls. This seemed like kismet. I ordered the rice bowl with brown rice and the lemongrass chicken. The brown rice was absolutely delicious. I also added the hot sauce on top of this delightful concoction. The brown rice was incredibly tender and the lemongrass chicken was a refreshing take on this precious pollo protein. The service was incredible and the food disappeared into my belly at an alarming rate. I don't think I've ever eaten rice that quickly with chopsticks in my life. Since this is kind of a food court, there wasn't much immediate seating outside of this place. The seating that was available was clean, though. If you're ever in downtown San Jose, eat at Vietnoms. I was so excited when this place open. We've been coming to SoFa since they opened shop, few turnovers but the good ones are still here. I heard the rent is so high that the moms and pops can't stay in very long. It's the reason why the price for a plate or a sandwich is like eating in a served restaurant. The salad is good but not enough for what you're paying for, every adds on has extra charge, by the time you get to the register you'll be paying almost $20, I'd rather go to sit down restaurant and pay $15.00, you have a server and privacy/ have your own table. I ordered the vermicelli bowl with lemon grass pork, the bowl was just ok compared to the other places I've been to that serve bowls like these, the one thing I disliked about the bowl was the lemon grass pork it was not to good ,kind of felt like I had a great bowl topped with some meat from Panda Express. We came by here on a Friday around 2:30-3pm. We had a hard time finding it when we drove by. Also had a difficult time finding parking. Found a meter a few blocks away it was $2 for 1 hour. We found the stall pretty quickly but were not sure if we wanted to commit to this place or not. Most of the places in here were not busy. We decided to order the vermicelli bowls. I got chicken and my husband got pork. I like that you can "customize" your bowl by picking what goes in in. That was about the only think I liked. The spring roll was very good. Hot and fresh. The chicken was supposed to be lemon grass but did not seem to be very flavored and was not hot. It seemed like there was a lot of "filler" in the bowl but not a lot of meet and this was pretty price. For the two vermicelli bowls it was $28.41 which seems spendy to me for "fast casual." After having been disappointed in VN grill a little over a week ago. I wanted to stop by here to see what their competition looks like. Both have the Chipotle assembly line setup. Both are playing with Vietnamese food. Both have their staple dishes here... VietNoms being on the slightly more expensive side.. but I've been told that VN Grill also raised their prices lately so someone can help me double check later if possible... I don't quite care for the veggies they give you on the side of ur rice box/bowl.... The vineagrette doesn't really wow much.. But as far as freshness I'm impressed for how it is... It ain't got off the grill fresh but it's hot enough to know it was not microwaved or from a leftover batch. You would have an easier time convincing an OCD health freak to eat here than at Chipotle. 75% chcnaxe the meat at Chipotle is old or overcooked. VN GRILL needs to borrow the fish sauce batch or formula from VietNoms.. cause this was a Cleveland Browns(VNG) to New England Patriots (VTN) difference... The rice wasn't dry or mushy so at least we know someone else knows how to cook rice properly :) Portions..I'm not gonna complain too much cause I know SJ is riding SF's coat-tail as far as cost if living goes just like San Mateo... However... If you see the picture of the banh mi attached to this review...there was alot of protein but no flavor from the veggies at all..not much of a balance.. it was more Arbys five spice chicken sandwich..instead of a Banh Mi... I have a bad habit of always going to these Americanized Vietnamese food expecting better and always ending up disappointed. Vietnoms is another one to add to that list. Vietnoms takes the Vietnamese vermicelli bowl concept and turn it Chipotle style, which is all fine and dandy, if their customization was actually flexible. I found the workers irritated whenever I had to deviate from the set menu, so what's the point of the customization in the first place? I suppose I made the mistake of going during the lunch rush, but this is never a problem at Chipotle. They also only appear to have pork and shrimp eggrolls, which isn't particularly friendly to those allergic to shellfish or vegetarians. Maybe they do have vegetarian eggrolls. Whatever the case, it wasn't very transparent. At the end, you just have an overpriced bowl of Vietnamese food which you can get for much cheaper literally anywhere else in San Jose with a larger portion. I guess you're a bit limited if you don't have a car in downtown. TIP: The pork is decent. Nothing special though. read more
