Good "make-your-own-meal" Vietnamese option in the mall right next to the gigantic line for Ramen Nagi. Particularly being in the Valleyfair mall, this place does have great value with variety for anybody to find a quick bite to eat. Seating is first-come-first serve. We opted to split a vermicelli and banh mi to try different options. Portion wise and general balance both of the entrees was pretty good. The fried egg rolls were particularly juicy and the vermicelli / vegetables were pretty fresh. However, both the main meats were firmly on the tough side. The banh mi also had a shortcoming in the bread as it was pretty dense for a baguette and took away a lot from the texture of the sandwich. Flavor-wise I have no complaints, but the texture wasn't quite on point. Overall a nice, quick option for food while you're out and about in the mall, but not something I'd go out of my way for. read more

Went here for lunch while I was in town to watch FLOW over at the civic center. The food here was very delicious. I had the Bun bowl with a few add-ons and a drink. This place is a little pricey so just a heads up. I got the bowl and 2 drinks for a little over $40. Each canned drink was $3 which seems a little high for a 12oz can. They nickel and dime you for each add on and make you pay for there sauces. read more

Really solid lunch option. Located inside the SOFA Market it can definitely get busy so I always come in after 1 to avoid the crowds. Love going to this food court for their options. I live in little saigon but this was nice to have as a quick option.

Gota love a place that serves just fried fish cakes. Out of all the dishes we picked that was certainly my most favorite. They cut up the fish cakes before frying it so every piece has a nice and crisp browned edge. Banh khot was also yummy. Savory and slightly sweet. Both dishes came out piping hot, so it was nice and fresh. I like mine with two spoon fulls of fish sauce with every bite. It definitely just elevated the flavor. The bun rieu was ok. I was wondering where my crab/pork beat balls were, and I was expecting to see floating bits of it but didn't see it. Until I bit into one of the chunks of meat. They were super compacted pieces of what normally would have been floating around in the broth. Not what I'm used to. It was almost like I had to take a small bite of the cube and sip the broth to fully get the flavors to meld. read more

I grew up eating a lot of authentic Vietnamese vermicelli and rice bowls. Vietnoms is a very modern but true to the core approach to Vietnamese food. I love the way the dish is put together and presented. The greens comes with a vinaigrette and has its own compartment so it doesn't make the rice soggy. I personally love the scallion oil they had added to the rice. It's a nice touch. Although I can see how it could mislead other customers to think the rice is just "oily". I got the lemongrass pork and my bf got the lemongrass chicken. The meat is always perfectly cooked, never dry. The lemongrass isn't apparent but the seasoning, I think is just perfect. I could see how the lemongrass flavors are toned down a bit to cater to a wider range of patrons. Their fish sauce is very bright and complements the dish well. I often only use a tiny bit because the dish itself is already very well seasoned. They're a stall located in the SoFa Market, food court style. For Covid, the place offers outdoor seatings in front of the place and in the back. There's usually street parking in front and near the place on weekdays/mornings but you might have to park and walk on the weekends. They also have a rewards program that racks points up pretty fast. It also sends you 10%-20% off offers every once in awhile. Reward points can get you free drinks/add-ons/bowls. Also special shoutout to a female employee there that I see every time I visit. Full disclosure - I do tend to love these type of build your own rice box places that have an asian twist (such as Asian Box). This place was another happy find for me recently. It's located in the SOFA Market downtown, which is still open during Covid. We ordered ahead on their website and it was ready before the estimated time. We got a rice bowl with the Lemongrass Chicken and a salad bowl with the Lemongrass Pork. Both had well-flavored, perfectly cooked and seasoned meats. The Egg Roll was stuffed with pork, and very crispy. The sparkling limeade was refreshing and not overly sweet. read more

Been going to Vietnoms since they opened in downtown! Prices definitely went up, kind of pricey for what you get but it's good quality meats and veggies. The fish sauce is delicious with the lemongrass chicken and noodle bowl. I love that you're able to substitute your pork egg roll for a vegetarian egg roll. Seating is limited but location is nice. There's bar seating, outdoor seating, and a little back patio shared with the other restaurants. Employees aren't overly friendly but will try to accommodate any special requests, especially allergies. Solid place for sure where the quality of food has never disappointed. Service could've been quicker,I waited in line for about 10 minutes. It looks as if most is also prepared except for the meat. I got a spicy beef bowl and a chicken bowl and they waited about 10 minutes before cooking my beef. The orders ahead of me were all chicken bowls but the chicken was ready however the workers were not. Every time I visit, they typically put the sauce in a secondary container on the side without me having to ask. I assumed this was the standard and expected the same to happen today. As usual, I ordered at the kiosk and selected my sauce of choice (fish sauce). When I received my order, I didn't see the secondary container of sauce, so I asked for one. However, when I began eating, I realized they had already added the sauce directly to the Bun Bowl. There was so much fish sauce in the bowl that it was overly soggy and soupy. Let me be clear: I never added any extra sauce--this was all from what they added. The amount of sauce was overwhelming and ruined the texture of the veggies and noodles. My bowl was barely touched when I brought this issue to the attention of the two men working on December 10, 2024. They seemed reluctant to examine my food or fully hear my concerns. I was thinking we all have off days, accidents happen and maybe they went a little heavy handed on the sauce serving. It happens. Eventually, they gave me a new bowl with plain noodles. I salvaged the toppings (veggies, meat, and eggroll) from the original bowl, added them to the new one, and discarded the soggy noodles. And when they handed me the plain noodles, it felt like they just wanted to offer an easy fix to get me to go away. My advice: Always ask for the sauce on the side! And if you have an issue with your bowl, they may be reluctant to help you out. read more

Vietnoms is always a solid place to go to. Really good portions and I like the vinegretts that come with them. Their tofu is much better than a lot of places that will offer basic tofu that is lacking in flavor and texture when it comes to a lazy option for vegetarians. Regardless of whether you are vegetarian or not I'd definitely try them! read more

I came here on a Saturday afternoon, and ordered the Pork rice bowl and a pork Banh Mi. The rice bowl was lukewarm at best, and the flavors were clashing really hard. I could only get about halfway through the bowl before having to throw it out. The Banh Mi was alright, but nothing special. We also got 2 Thai Teas, which were not too good, either. The flavor was rich to a fault, and it was hard to get more than five sips in. Overall, the food was edible, but I would NEVER come here again! I was really excited to try vietnoms because I love ordering vermicelli plates when I go to Vietnamese pho restaurants. I ordered a vermicelli bowl w/ lemongrass pork (other protein options include chicken & tofu) and a pork & shrimp egg roll (vegan option available). The bowl was also topped with lettuce, cabbage, cilantro, and peanuts (i opted out of the bean sprouts, pickled veggies & mint). The vermicelli noodles were at the bottom of the bowl! The flavor of the food was really good all the different textures in the bowl made every bite delicious. The lettuce and cabbage gave the bowl a good crunch, but what made this bowl stand out was the fried egg on top. It was crispy around the edges and paired great with the meat. The pork was flavorful and not super tough to chew. The portion size was good and I didn't feel like I overate afterwards. I will say the price point was on the steeper side. I understand it is located i'm downtown san jose but I could find something similar for a cheaper price at a pho restaurant. I also wish they were open late night and think that lots of college students would appeal to that especially since they are located a short walk away from campus. read more

Love this spot! Great food, decent price and quick delivery. This is a downtown spot, so parking is usually a challenge. My go-to dish is the vermicelli bowl, which comes with an eggroll. You choose your base, protein and your toppings. I've tried each of the proteins and usually I will go through them in rotation. The spicy beef will cost you a extra, but you will probably be ok with that because of the taste. I believe there are only two tables in front of this tiny kitchen and they are for anyone dining at the handful of restaurants located at this SoFa Market in San Jose. There is limited seating throughout the Market and additional seating outside in the back and the front. Here's What I Think... I will continue making my Sunday visit here for delicious, fast food. I loved their boon bowl. I got it with tofu. My boyfriend enjoyed his bahn mi with the hot beef. I would come here again if I lived closer. Came by for a valorant tournament. Vietnoms is located on the side aisle of the SoFA Market, which is a cute little food hall with plenty of seating for groups (and a bar in the back!). I ordered the vermicelli bowl with lemongrass chicken and lemongrass pork. The bowl comes with plenty of refreshing greens, pickled radish and carrot, and egg rolls. The meat had excellent flavor - great smokiness from the grill, and tanginess from good marination. The egg rolls were okay - a little stale, and possibly not as well fried as some other egg rolls I've had in the area. All in all it was a solid bowl, but I think it falls just short of the most OG places around San Jose, which is an admittedly high bar. read more

I will be honest here, I LOVE vermicelli bowls! My standard is pretty low for stuff like these - taste decent and nothing more. Got the vermicelli bowl with lemongrass pork as choice of protein plus a side of shrimp cake. The whole thing was covered in this greasy house dressing which coated my mouth the entire time. Pork was well seasoned and delicious. Side order of shrimp cake was nice and crisp. If done without the excess oil, the bowl would have tasted just fine. The Vietnamese coffee was just awful... Never had anything that bitter and condensed my entire life and trust me, I've had my fair share of Vietnamese coffee. It was love at first site with Vietnom's! Located on South 1st Street in San Pedro Square, you will find plenty of yummy food options but Vietnom's is typically my go-to! Since they are located at the Market, there is plenty of parking with a large garage directly across from the entrance. Bonus - Vietnom's will soon be opening a second location at the Westfield Valley Fair Mall in Santa Clara! I discovered Vietnam's pre-Covid and knew immediately that this was one of my new favorite spots. Pre-Covid, the service here was always impeccable: Service with a smile, the folks in the back kitchen smiling and laughing and the team on the front end very knowledgeable about the menu {and helped me navigate to accommodate my food allergies}. Vietnom's is cafeteria style - Order at the counter, receive a buzzer and pick-up at the counter when it's ready. During Covid, they closed down for a bit {as most restaurants did}, but when they re-opened, I was first in line for delivery. I've typically ordered from Door Dash and the service from both the restaurant as well as the delivery service has been outstanding - My orders have arrived prior to the time frame given and each order arrived with any/all specifications and still piping hot! Located inside the SOFA Market where there are plenty of options to choose from. Deciding on lunch became a battle in my head, trying to decide if I want a Cuban, Mexican, Vietnamese, or the Salad joint next door. I ordered the Lemongrass Pork Rice Bowl (brown rice). The pork has so much flavor and is super juicy. Also loved the vinegar/fish sauce. Looks like they use garlic and thai chili peppers. The shredded pork topping was a great addition to the bowl. I think that they could have given a bit more rice, or lettuce. Always pack in the cheap items to fill the bowls. I thought they teach that everywhere lol. Since it's located in this food court place, there is plenty of seating. Order you food and sit somewhere to eat it. The great thing is that you can order items from multiple places. Gotta love food court type place. The process was fast and food was good. I'm guessing this place has younger business owners. You can usually tell by the options and how they run the place. Really disappointed with my last experience here. I really enjoy eating here and am part of the rewards program. They sent me a reward that I could redeem and it was said to expire on 12/27. I checked the website and instagram to see if they had any special hours and they didn't. I went to the DoorDash app and it said I could order for pickup on there so I assumed they were open and was driving from Palo Alto (which is a little far) so I wanted to ensure they were open. I called and they didn't pick up but I thought, if you can order from DoorDash, it must be open. I got there, and it was closed. On yelp, DoorDash, and their website, it said they should be open. ~Delivery~ For modern, convenient and customizable Viet food, this is a unique option. But keep in mind that customizable food will cost a bit more than your typical hole in the wall Viet food in the heart of downtown San Jose. Yes, even the Banh Mi is a bit pricey than other restaurants. ESPECIALLY when you order through any of the delivery apps. There are Com or Bun or Goi bowls, and of course Banh Mi. (I Believe their Santa Clara location has Pho?). I always ordered my bowls without bean sprouts and never get them which is fantastic. I mention this because even other places when I order without bean sprouts, I still sometimes get it. Their house sauce which is the nuoc mam, doesn't have the traditional taste of. But its still pretty good. Their banh mi are all grilled protein. Its hard to find cha lua at most modern Viet shops nowadays. If you're particular about Pate, there is none here. They also have some small bites such as Nem Nem (but in a meatball style), and egg roll. There are no spring rolls here. Their Vietnamese Coffee is decent. Their limeade is pretty good but not very consistent. Its either too sweet or minimal sweet. If you want to try something different, definitely give a try for some modern Viet Food. For myself, this is only once and a while because the price is a bit much for some of my favorites. read more

I've been coming here since they opened and love the tofu vermicelli with the vegan spring roll. The tofu is always crispy fried and delish and so is the vegan spring roll packed with taro. Today we also tried the tofu banh mi. It was ok. Bread was crispy, a little too crispy and falling apart. The flavor was mezzo mezzo, would have liked a stronger flavored spread and the half I had did not have any cilantro and jalapeño. My son enjoyed his half lol. Located with SoFA market is this little life saver to for my sudden need for a Banh mi. I yelped this place but didn't realize it was actually a food court with multiple options. It gave all of a chance to pick something different. Of course My daughter and I were undeterred and picked up a Pork Banh Mi and their tofu rice plate. I of course enjoyed my sandwich, but I was pleasantly Surprised by the rice plate. The tofu was well seasoned and prepared and the accompanying sauce was great. I felt my self eating more than a parent should of their child's food but couldn't ignore how great it tasted. The plate also included an egg roll which I tasted only a small bite. Next time I'm here I might forgo the sandwich for one of their awesome rice plates. The service was great, no issues with my order and the employees made it quick. It isn't really big but is part of a food court. Seating was great throughout the food court as it wasn't particularly busy. I like that you can order on a tablet like interface. I also like how you can add on vermicelli. I had the chicken bun bowl. My kids shared a plain vermicelli. The have good eggrolls here as well. I added on the fried egg. It was cooked perfectly. The chicken is sweet, maybe a tad too sweet for me but my eldest liked it. I like the sauce they put in the noodles, which I typically don't like. There sauce was not fishy tasting or smelling which I appreciate. I do not like the smell of most fish sauces. read more

COVID-19 update: they're open for pick up and delivery! YESS! Vietnamese food with a build your own approach. Genius, right? They have bowls and sandwiches (banh mi). You choose your base (vermicelli noodles, rice, or salad), then your protein (beef, pork, chicken, or tofu), then whatever vegetables and other toppings you want. They also have egg rolls, Vietnamese coffee, flan, and fresh coconuts to compliment your meal. All of their proteins are so flavorful and well seasoned, but I love, love, love their tofu. I'm not normally a tofu person, but I love it here! They have large serving sizes with lots of meat and vegetables. I usually like adding an egg if I get a rice bowl or sandwich. Their sandwiches are limited, so get them quick!! I highly suggest adding fried shallots to your bowl, crispy and delicious flavor. As a Sofa market regular, I always stop by Vietnoms to grab a vermicelli bowl. Recently, I tried the tofu one, which I prefer over the other proteins. I find that you don't compromise flavor wise at all. The egg roll is a bit greasy but still very solid, and they have a wide variety of extra toppings.
