I was confused when reading the reviews because a lot of people did not like this place. But since reviews are like flipping a coin, I decided to go for it. I feel like the proportions are very good but the flavor is not there. I ordered the California omelet and it was big, the bacon was thick and fattie in a bad way, as well as the ham. I also ordered the matcha latte and it was just a pound of sugar with milk. Not good at all I couldn't even drink it. My husband ordered the eggs Benedict and for him it was average. We also had coffee on the side and it was meh... The place is usually full and it is small. You have to seat yourself. I think the only thing worth coming here is the bakery. This place is not very good. :/ my blueberry muffin didn't have much flavor and my ice Chai tea was pretty much just milk no spice at all. I was a sad because I was really looking forward to it. My husband ordered a bagel with lox and cream cheese but when we opened the box the bagel was wrapped separate with nothing on it. The lox onion and capers were on the plate with little cups of cream cheese. He had to make it himself!!! Which really confused us!! Why wouldn't you make it??? Just not a good experience read more

Today was only my second time visiting this cute little quaint place. Friendliness was just okay today (neutral). Their baked goods, though, looked so phenomenally tasty ((huge)). Their Mocha is not good - I'm not sure if powder or liquid was used, but after each sip it leaves an oily/salty filmy taste. Cannot taste any coffee or espresso; it's like I'm just drinking salty sweet milk. :'( Next time around, I'll just try the coffee (black) and definitely one of their delicious looking baked goods. read more

If you aren't there early enough you will have slim pickins. I am going to try to go earlier tomorrow. I went at 230pm, and they close at 3pm. The kitchen was closed, but I was able to order a couple sandwiches to go. I got a croissant turkey and cheese, and the hotel del sandwich for the hubby. He liked the bacon. Lovely little lunch spot in Coronado. Spent the afternoon on the island and happened this cafe. We split a tuna melt with came with lentil soup. We also ordered a chocolate chip cookie. The sandwich was massive and flavorful. The soup was delicious and hearty. The cookie was moist and flavorful. We shared both and it was just the right amount of food. The service was a little slow. We were waiting a really long time after we ordered and it was frustrating to have to go back to the counter to ask where it was. For a quite bite of food, it was a win! read more

One thing that makes me a little lukewarm in my review is the fact I walked by when closed and the display cabinets had plastic bags wrapped around the trays of food, making me wonder if they don't make and sell fresh. This is my fourth time I came here for breakfast. I thought I found a new place in Coronado for breakfast, but I was wrong. The food is pretty good but the staff is rude. I ordered our breakfast and ordered my daughter's pancakes ( which cost $10) to go. I told the cashier can she please put the to go order in later about 30 minutes so it will not get cold. Well I guess they did not get the message. My to go order arrived at my table before any of the food to be eaten in the restaurant was served. I tried to explain to the young server, but she kept on trying to give me the to go order. I was trying to explain that the pancakes will be cold by the time I take them to my daughter. She kept insisting that I take them, I told her the pancakes will be cold. She kept on trying to make me take the pancakes getting very pushy. I told her I will take the order in 30 minutes. The dine in food was served 5 minutes later. The same pushy girl came trying to give me the warm pancakes right after the other server placed the food on the table. I could not believe she so pushy and annoying. I told her no not for another 30 minutes. When we were done they handed me the cold pancakes. I was amazed that they would give me the cold pancakes after everything. I thought perhaps since she was young the older gentleman who liked like the owner would be better at customer service. I went up to the counter and asked if I could speak to him on the side because I didn't want others to hear my complaint When I fold him that I had requested my take out after I ate so it wouldn't be cold when I took it to home to my daughter. He looked and acted annoyed and said what's the problem it's a to go order. I said I wanted the Togo order hot not cold . He didn't want to listen to me . I explained to him I had told the cashier specifically that I wanted the order placed a half an hour later so it wouldn't be cold when I gave it to my daughter. I told him it's only pancakes how hard is it to fix it. He reluctantly agreed to get me new pancakes with an angry look on his face. I did finally get the order fixed but it was done with a great amount of unnecessary stress. I will never go there again. read more

A chicken salad sandwich and a Reuben, called Silver Strand, stood out. The food was late and incomplete. After reminding the waiter 3 times...I finally walked in and approached the counter girl. We were done eating and she was just making my coffee and bringing the cream cheese to our table!!!! Needless to say, it was the worst Chocolate Mocha coffee I've ever had. Ive been looking for a bakery that sells croissants for awhile and came across this one. It had pretty good reviews and it seemed convincing. Ive been wanting to go but due to work i kept putting it off. Well today i finally had the day off and i went to go get the croissant ive been craving for so long. I ordered a plain croissant and it was $2.50 i believe. Excited to taste it when i open the bag and feel that the croissant is soft yet solid. How can it be soft and solid you may ask. I had just filled up the parking meter to the two hour max and was looking for a wi-fi spot to get a good chunk of studying done, while having some coffee and breakfast. It was between this place and the Starbucks next door. So, I asked the lady at Villa Nueva if they had wi-fi. "Yes," she replied. Villa Nueva looked cute, there was plenty of seating, and they had a full breakfast menu. So, I went in. At the counter, I told the lady I wanted the Nutty Latte (advertised as their house special - a latte with hazelnut and almond syrup and whip cream) and breakfast. Without getting my breakfast order, she began making the coffee. It was slightly awkward, and I had time to scope out the place for plug outlets (nonexistent) before she took the rest of my order -- the classic Huevos Rancheros. After paying at the counter, I sat down and got out my laptop and books -- hoping my laptop battery would last. Looking forward to that first sip of coffee bliss, I brought the Styrofoam cup to my lips and took a sip. Yuck! It tasted exactly like it was from a gas station latte machine. A pitiful sugar concoction. Well, at least they have wi-fi. ... Before I could blink an eye, the lady came out with the Huevos Rancheros. "Wow, did they even have time to cook that?" I wondered. It looked barely passable. Two tortillas completely drowning in green sauce with eggs and chopped onions. And a small side of refried beans with exactly three tortilla chips sticking straight up from them. I took a bite... eh. Well, at least they have wi-fi. ... Or, maybe not. I tinkered around trying to get connected to a few different signals, and finally reverted to connecting to the Starbuck's AT&T signal from next door. Whatever works, right? I pulled up a PDF from my course Web site and began to read. Wait, what happened to the second page? Oh, the wi-fi signal went out. Okay... so, the AT&T signal from next door was pretty spotty... well, maybe Villa Nueva has a password protected signal for their customers. So, I approached the lady at the counter again. "How do I connect to your wi-fi?" "Oh, it's not working?" "I'm not sure, do you have a password or something?" blank stare... shaking head no "Okay, so do you know what your signal is called?" blank stare... shaking head no Grrrr... that's the entire reason I chose this place. Well. That was an entirely pointless $12 experience. Not wanting to have to buy yet another cup of coffee at another joint, I forfeited the remaining hour and a half left on the parking meter and drove back to my hotel where I know they have lots of plug outlets and free wi-fi with no hassle. Let me tell you about the chicken sandwich I just had... the squadron was perfect. Deliciously crafted with care, and the perfect addition to the perfect brunch. Probs my favorite chicken sandwich ever. The ambiance of the place was on point for a casual stroll down the shopping district of Coronado. The mimosa was in fact jumbo and I fully intend on bringing my folks here when they come visit. The cherry on top of this meal was the side of fruit as opposed to chips. We are coffee snobs and Villa Nueva's coffee and latte's exceed our standards! To clarify, we bring our own organic beans individually for our coffee at home! I've been to this place several times over the last two or three years and the staff is always very friendly and helpful. I've only come here for breakfast so I can't speak to their sandwiches, enchiladas, or other items. They have some incredible looking deserts in their case but since I've always come for breakfast I don't know if they are as delicious as they look. Seating is kinda limited and they don't cater to those in a rush (see "The Bad"). The Good: As I said, the staff is excellent. Their muffins are very good, if you get a blueberry or cranberry it will really have a blueberry or cranberry flavor. You won't have to roll it around in your mouth and say, "Yeah, now that I think about it, I can taste the blueberry." Their French toast is very good, with thick slices of bread that you can really sink your teeth into. I've also had one of their omelets (sorry, I can't recall which one), which was very good and filling. The Bad: This is only bad if you are in a hurry or trying to keep to a schedule, then you may want to try somewhere else. If you order something that needs to be prepared they aren't the fastest but I'm pretty sure they make everything as ordered (fresh) instead of having things prepped so they can get it to your table as quickly as possible. Vila Nueva is better for a leisurely morning when you don't have anywhere you need to be and you want to sit back and enjoy your meal. Of course, if all you want are some pastries from the case you'll get out pretty quick. This is not a very large place so if you come during peak times don't be surprised if you can't get a table, they get pretty busy. The Indifferent: Their pancakes were good but nothing exceptional or out of the ordinary. I could get pancakes as good as theirs at quite a few other places. read more

This place is absolutely horrible. Ordered their club and there was HAIR in my sandwich (which I didn't realize until I was halfway through). When I brought my sandwich up to the girl at the counter I was bascally laughed right in my face. Not only did not offer a new sandwich, she told me she could not give me my money back because the owner was not there. After a little arguing, she got the owner on the phone and he was even more RUDE than she was. Aren'y you always supposed to try and make the customer happy?? I'm always particularly disappointed when anything with the word "pastry" in its name isn't actually good. I ordered a veggie sandwich here. The description (vegetables and cream cheese) didn't make it sound all that tasty, but I wanted to try the homemade oatmeal bread it was served with. And I gave Villa Nueva Coffee & Pastry the benefit of the doubt--they wouldn't serve vegetables with cream cheese in a sandwich unless they could give it flavor, right? Umm, not quite. But more disappointingly, the bread was stale. The edges were actually hard--and not because they were toasted. For the same price, I got a delicious (half of a) crab and shrimp sandwich on ciabatta and a Golden Gate salad (filled with lots of good stuff) at Tent City the following day. Ice Mocha with double shot. It was was strong but tasted like Mocha. $3.75 4. Clean cafe. 5. Customer Service - decent & friendly. Employees were groomed and constantly cleaning or tidying up. 6. Music wasn't too loud. CONs 1. There are NO PRICES visible when looking on their menu's on the wall or the pastry case. 2. Over priced by 30% in my opinion. A 12oz SPRITE CAN SODA is $1.75, 16oz bottled water is $1.50. 3. The signs in the pastry case is disorganized and half of them didn't have signs so I had no idea what I was looking at. 4, Fruit salad had a small bug hovering around it, I don't know how long it was there. 5. Their kitchen CLOSED at 2pm on a Sunday so I had to order a sandwhich instead of what they had on the laminated menu (It had salads, soups, Mexican food, etc.). Very ANNOYING since they should have had a sign somewhere that it indicated that. 6. Laminated menus looks outdated and dirty. 7. No one checked up on me to see how I was doing, even though I left a $2 tip when I paid up front. They only came once to take my tray away. I won't do that again. 8. The have NO BATHROOMS!
