We were unfortunately 20 min late for our reservation and didn't notify the restaurant. Yes, that was our fault. We didn't think it was going to be a big deal because Open Table showed several reservation openings. This should have been red flag #1. Our reservation was for 2 people for 8pm on a Wednesday. We walk in and apologize to the host and he immediately barks at us that they would normally charge us for being late if they were busy but since they weren't busy it was ok. I've never been scolded by an employee at a restaurant before. There were not many diners so the entire restaurant heard us being reprehended for being late to our rez. We notice that there ~3 people sitting at the bar and a few small groups in the dining room. The host seats us directly next to a small group while there were plenty of tables open. we sit down and see the water glass is wet. After being scolded by the host, the table placement, wet water glass, etc. my boyfriend and I both looked at each other and decided to leave. We were excited to try to restaurant as it looked appealing from the outside. However, these encounters we've had in the few minutes we stepped into this establishment were enough to leave. In the mood for an intimate atmosphere and to die for Italian food? Then this place is a MUST for you! Husband and I have celebrated our last 2 anniversaries here and every visit (regardless of reason) has been impressive. The food is always thoughtfully prepared and they do have specials every night. The Sicilian Sunday Gravy is always an excellent choice (husband has ordered that on multiple occasions and hasn't been disappointed) but no matter what we order, I have not had a disappointing meal or dessert here! The service is always fantastic and I love that you can reserve tables online. There isn't any parking specifically for the restaurant but it's within walking distance to the Charleston Visitor Center garage and a number of other lots/garages. I really have difficulty picking my favorite restaurant in this saturated market of epic food choices but I have to say I think that for Husband this is, hands down, his favorite Downtown Charleston restaurant. read more

I started the meal with the bruschetta (House Focaccia Bread, Local Tomatoes, Baby Arugula, Olive Oil, Goat Cheese, Basil). The bread was that great consistency where it's nice and crunchy on the outside, but soft and gluteny on the inside. Next up was the Roman Artichokes (Roasted Shallots, Heirloom Tomatoes, Castelvetrano Olives, Micro Herbs), which were fantastic. The Masami Wagyu (Pickled Peppers, Capers, Parmesan Tuile, Sun Dried Tomato Aioli, Dried Olives, Heirloom Tomatoes, Ciabatta Toast,) was a cool take on a carpaccio, but it was a much thicker cut of meat, which was a little on the chewy side. the Housemade Burrata (Served With Roasted Tomatoes, Saba, Aged Balsamic, Marinated Olives) was basically described as "cheese-stuffed cheese," like a cross between mozzarella and cottage cheese, drizzled with olive oil, and was delicious! The Veal Saltimbocca (Fresh Sage, Mozzarella, Prosciutto Di Parma, Fettucini) was delicious, but a bit heavy on the sage, so be prepared for that. The Cacio e Pepe (Spaghetti With Pecorino Toscano, Parmesan Cheese, Cracked Pepper, Topped With A Parmesan Tuile) was pretty great. Even though the sauce is essentially just cheese and butter, it was very light and totally delish. Kind of like a grown up version of mac and cheese. I think the Lamb Sugo (Slow Cooked Lamb Shoulder Bolognese Style, Tagliatelle Pasta, House Ricotta & Lavender Mint) was my favorite of all the pastas I tried. Christmas ruined. My mother made reservations for our family and two friend back in October. She requested downstairs seating. Upon arrival, we were sat up upstairs in an icebox. I inquired about as solution with the manager, only to say they had a booth open...for our party of 5. We never once took our coats off. Almost $300 to sit in the cold and be ignored despite having reservations two months in advance. I have not seen my mother and my sister together in two years. My mother had a look of defeat the entire meal. If they can't deliver on special occasions and don't respect reservations, what makes you think they'll respect anyone? Dinner ruined. The ambiance of the restaurant is really nice- low lighting, high ceilings with large windows- it's certainly got that romantic Italian feel. However, the food did not live up to the venue. I ordered the cacio e chili, which was basically Mac and cheese with chili flakes on it...not what I was expecting and honestly it just didn't taste good. I barely touched the meal and I'm surprised they even charged me full price for it. my friends ordered other things off the menu like the risotto or the gnocchi and had similar negative views about their meal. The waiter we had was also not very polite. The day we went something was wrong with their soda machine. My friend ordered a Diet Coke and received something that looked like but was NOT Diet Coke. After waiting 5 minutes, I walked toward a side hall, hearing voices. I found a wait staff member who was clearly leaving with her back pack. She called to another person. Must have been the hostess who came out and said, here sit here, this is your table. Says I, how do you know, are you the hostess? We sat. My husband and I feeling we should leave, but, we had used Uber so no transpotation. The waiter/bartender arrived. We ordered drinks which were prompt. 15 min. later, he comes by asking what we wanted to order, so we did. 10 minutes after that, bread arrives. The salad I ordered had the wrong dressing on it. He was prompt in replacing it after telling me it was what I ordered. No says I, I know blue cheese dressing and this was not it. He replaced it with ranch. The margerita pizza my husband ordered was dried out, thick crust and burned in spots. My pasta was so over cooked it was mushy. In all it was inedible. I have been a waitress for years, I called the bartender/ waiter over and complained of the whole service, telling him I knew the food was not his control or reponsibitity. But I was very unhappy. As he presented the FULL bill to my husband, he said he was sorry the food was not to my liking. Rather than postpone the bad experience longer, my husband chose to leave. Came here for a small group dinner so i had no say in choosing this restaurant. Walked in and like the other restaurants in this alleyway it gad a manufactured ambience kind if like those restaurants in Disney world. It's a cavernous space and sound carries so it is not quiet nor intimate. For some reason even though it was warm and humid no AC was on, this was a bummer! We started with cocktails which took quite a while to arrive. Our G&T had no garnish at all, just a clear glass of liquid (weird!), the Basil lemonade was super tart but ok. The bread was fine but I would have preferred olive oil to the herb butter. Our waiter was a bit impatient that we were not ready to order even though there were only a few other tables that night. Anyhow we all ordered pasta except for one grouper special which was delicious. Meatballs were good, Sunday gravy and the shrimp pasta were very bland. Upon entering this place I instantly felt like I was in Italy. It is a very charming restaurant with rustic decor. We were served bread with sea salt and parmesan cheese on the side for dipping. For my appetizer, I had the soup of the day. This was a sweet potato soup and I was a bit disappointed with the consistency of this soup. It had a baby food kind of texture as opposed to a more runny or "soupy" texture. The flavor was ok and the dish was ascetically pleasing. For my entree, I had the Chicken Piccatta served over house pasta. This was a delicious dish and I really enjoyed the addition of capers. The chicken and the pasta were plated a top a white wine sauce that had great flavor. Lastly, We finished our meal with Tiramisu. The coffee was a bit over powering for my taste. Funny they have great Italian food but the rib eye steak is a pretty good deal here. It came with greens and a potato dish that was delicious! I was really happy with the wine list to see a very affordable red wine on the menu for $25. What a cool looking place and the alley leading up to it screams old Charleston. I was extremely impressed with this restaurant. Our server, Tom, was outstanding. He took his time with us, made great suggestions on food and suggested a wine that paired well with our food. He was very attentive and checked on us frequently. We couldn't decide on a dessert and he suggested a sampler for just a few dollars more and had three to share. As for the food, it was outstanding. The ciabatta bread was warm and crisp outside, soft inside. I had the lobster spaghetti. It was fabulous, served with bacon braised field peas. My wife had the spaghetti gambolino which was shrimp in a white wine sauce. Definitely the freshest shrimp we've had with a restaurant meal in quite some time. And we still can't decide which dessert was best. The tiramisu was served with a marsala sauce that was incredible, but the dark chocolate creme brulee was right there with it. I stumbled across this place as I searched Yelp for Italian restaurants , since my husband mentioned he was in the mood for Pasta. Located in an alley that houses a row of eateries, the ambiance and decor was great. There was a mix up with our servers so although a very personable man started us off, we were almost immediately then approached by a different server who explained there'd been a miscommunication. The new server seems pretty rushed and kind of on edge. He was a nice young man, but seemed to be stretched too thin as our service was spotty (it took 30 minutes to get carrot cake and I had to ask another sever to check on our order. The chicken Piccata was the best I've ever had...seriously, it was. In addition the pasta was nice and fresh. I wasn't a fan of the "deconstructed carrot cake" as it was basically a few cubes of cake with icing, nuts and dried cranberries in the bowl.
