Great breakfast spot (as of now) with Covid I'm not sure how long that will last. The staff is friendly and efficient, the food is definitely on point and if it wasn't in Seattle, I would visit more often but Seattle has become a cesspool and I just can't see the drive being worth the outrageous parking (if you find one), the constant harassment by the vagrants and the fact that you can't walk half a block anywhere in this city without someone asking you for money, cigarettes or drugs. read more

Superfriend and I popped by here for dinner a few nights ago and were disappointed. The cocktails were mediocre. They weren't bad and they weren't great. I ordered a cheeseburger. It was a cheeseburger. Nothing to scream about, either way. Superfriend ordered the Steak Frites. It was awful. The only discernible flavor was charring. Not tasty. I gather many people use Virginia Inn as a pinch hitter for Le Pichet when LP gets way too crowded (right next door) That is why we came here the other night. That being said, our experience at Virginia Inn was quite pleasant. We were seated in the corner seats by the door with a good view of 1st ave. stuff tried Moules frites ($16) mussels in white wine onion broth served with pomme frites. very nice! nice crispy fries too Asaragus with fried duck egg ($10) somewhat of an odd pairing but I am a sucker with anything with egg on it. Its location between belltown and the Pike Market area sees a mix crowd of tourists and locals. The ambience feels is relaxed strikes a nice blend between bistro and bar. My friends and I decided to eat here after walking around Pike Place Market for a bit. We were a bit wary of eating here, as the restaurant was significantly less busy than the ones around it but decided to still give this place a try. The food was really underwhelming. I ordered the moules frites, which is basically mussels in a lemon, garlic and white wine sauce. Even though the portions are decently sized, the mussels weren't very flavorful. The sauce was a bit too salty and had a seafood taste that was definitely a bit off. The fries were also a weird side for the mussels, and they don't come with ketchup so you'll have to ask for them. Service is just okay for a restaurant in this price range. The server wasn't very friendly, and she gave us the bread that comes with the mussels halfway through our meal (you're supposed to dip it in the sauce or something I think). read more

The gluten free fish and chips are so good! I don't know what else to say except we were not expecting these to be so delish! The portions were generous and we had left overs for the next day. They were perfect reheated in our air fryer. We also ordered the old fashioned and the Manhattan cocktails and they were the perfect extra treat to add to our meal!! Situated at the crest of First Ave, the V.I. has long a history. A friendly and eclectic watering hole that combines French café and English pub styles. It features Northwest microbrews and local artists. Nothing special about the interior but I do enjoy a brick wall interior. There was a lot of nice artwork on the walls by a local artist. I love supporting that and seeing local establishments giving free gallery. The V.I is a part of the 1st Thursday art walk and has openings for the artists from 5-8pm. There's a nice lunch menu and I immediately honed in on the Nicoise salad, a Virginia Inn favorite. Seared tuna, haricots verts, potatoes, cherry tomatoes and Niçoise olives. Then I was going, what the hell is haricots verts and then I read it's french for green beans. Also included on the plate was a quartered hard boiled egg. This is a great little go to for an informal lunch and worth a try. read more

For a place that has been around for generations, you would think this place would have more reviews. Not only that, you can't get any closer to the market, so this place could be one of the cities highest traffic areas. I came in because I heard the place had a respectable burger. The burger was good. It had a serious char and smoked flavor, however, when you consider the upgrade price for fries and bacon, the price starts to become questionable. Red Robin is the standard, and for $11 you get a burger and bottomless fries. You are about $6-$7 deeper here without refillable fries. The service and flavor here is solid and they have a full bar for those who require a certain something to quench their thirst. The food menu also has something for everyone, however on my visit, It appeared 80% of the people there were having the burger My only suggestion would be more food and deals on the happy hour menu. I'm sure the business is doing well, but the lack of reviews tell me they are not attracting the kind of customer that will spread the word about them. read more

I asked our waitress what sandwich to order, and she quipped "Reuben or Burger" without any hesitation....leading me to believe that if I got the Reuben, I'd be getting this awesome sandwich loaded with corned beef, piled with sauerkraut and dripping with dressing. Nope, it was a few thin slices of meat on bread that was grilled too long, with a sprinkle of sauerkraut. No cheese. The bread was cooked so long, it literally cut the roof of my mouth. I paid THREE dollars extra to substitute potato chips with a bowl of bitter lettuce. I am not joking. It was literally a bowl of lettuce. The Meze plate was small but nice - hummus, goat cheese, olives, red peppers and pita. Okay, where do I start? We saw this place was hopping yesterday at lunch time, but happened by last night and let me tell you; The Vibe, the people, and THE FOOD! DELICIOUS! We liked it so much we came back for brunch. Last night I had the house salad with Balsamic and added the grilled salmon. Husband had the fish and chips. The salmon was perfectly grilled with a seasoning that paired well and made for a delicious meal. Husband is very particular about the texture of his fish and chips, and The Virginia Inn knocked it out of the ball park! Perfectly fried, crispy on the outside, not an ounce of extra oil, with a light and tasty fish inside. We raved so much we came back today for their plant based burger and fries that I challenge any meat eater to not know it was plant based. The accompanying fries were lightly seasoned and so good! Was in Seattle just for a night and came in on a rainy night for dinner. Our bartender, Sam, was the absolute best - I requested for a cocktail that wouldn't taste like alcohol and she absolutely delivered with a mixed drink of vodka, lemon and a sugared rim. She was so absolutely sweet and gave us really cool recommendations in terms of places to visit. The Virginia Inn is a gem in Seattle! Although super close to my office, I'd never been - thank goodness a couple of girlfriends made me hip to it. A night of appetizers. Tried almost everything on their appetizer menu all of which were satisfying. My favorites were the mussels, prawns and crab cakes. Local mussels, huge and delicously steamed with white wine and garlic. Their calamari was not my favorite -- small pieces that could easily fit in your mouth but they weren't very flavorful. It does come with an aioli sauce which was good itself. Friendly and timely service. On the walls is rotating art by local artists. I'll be back to try their entrees :) read more

The food here was simply awful. Had lunch with a friend while on vacation and came across Virginia Inn while walking down the street. The menu and ambiance looked good so we gave it a shot. My friend had the lunch special, Short Ribs. Only one very small rib was included and it was burnt beyond believe. Like a hockey puck. I ordered two small plates - Calamari and Penn Cove Mussels. The Calamari literally had no flavor and was like rubber. The Mussels were cooked well but the white wine broth was a pool of butter. I couldn't taste any wine, any garlic, any herbs... just oil and butter. It was horrendous. The service was ok, and my friend's dish was worse than mine so I commented about the short "rib" only and was happy to see they took it off the bill, which was unexpected but very appropriate so I give them recognition for that. While the atmosphere was quite nice, a restaurant is about the food. Here, it's beyond disappointing. It's terrible. read more

And I am not a fan of pork. The shrimp was very good as well!! For dinner I had the Chicken Marsala and the chicken was cooked to perfection!!! Also at our table we had the Fish and Chips, very excellent!! the Halibut, amazing flavor!! And the Scallops (can't comment on the scallops due to having a high food irritation to them) everyone said they were awesome!! They have an excellent selection of local tap-beer to choose from too! The head chef here at the Virginia Inn is very talented and does an excellent job not only on his amazing ability to cook but also on plate presentation!! What a jewel and why isn't this place packed? Attentive service and everything we had was expertly prepared. The pricing is very reasonable. We sat at a beautiful wooden booth but there is outdoor seating as well. The mussels were succulent with a wonderful broth & served with great bread. Let's start here: I have always wanted to go to Seattle, and a few weeks ago, I finally got my chance. On my last day, I wanted to hit up brunch before my flight so I decided to do what I typically do - walk until I find a place that just speaks to me. (I know this is risky on a Saturday without a reservation, but I did it anyway.) I found Virginia Inn because let me tell ya, it SPOKE to me. Amazing vibes. I walk in and I gingerly walk up to the host stand and timidly ask, "hiiii, I know it's busy but do you happen to have seating for one?" I didn't realize I was speaking with the owner and he says, "well if you don't mind sitting outside without any heaters, then yes we do!" to which I said, "I'm from Arizona, I don't need heaters! That sounds great!" He actually sits down with me for a couple minutes and tells me how the film Singles was shot there for a scene or two and was just really freakin' nice. When he leaves, I look over the menu and I'm astonished at the variety and the very fair price points. I ordered the french fries, pork belly, and a mimosa. (They were all delicious, by the way.) NOW here comes the scary part: I'm sitting in a corner that can easily go unnoticed, but I do not mind. I love people watching, however, I couldn't see the other guests cos they were in front of the building and I was to the side. If you search online, you can find the table I'm talking about - it's right beside this descending staircase. Anyway, a guy comes up to my table and places $20 bucks on it and tells me to order whatever I want. Uhhhh??? He says he will be back in ten minutes. I have said nothing at this point. He leaves and I don't touch the money. I just awkwardly sip my drink. He comes back and SITS DOWN at my table and starts asking me all sorts of questions, and I'm looking around like, "hellllllp" but again, I'm in a cornered spot where I'm not really seen and I most definitely do not want to make a scene. He starts telling me that he's a devil, how he stabbed his ex gf, how he wants me to be his fourth wife, and how he hates disrespectful women. I'm literally thinking, "omigod I am going to be either stabbed or trafficked right now" - all I could was nod and play nice AS HE EATS MY FRENCH FRIES :( (I'm still salty about that, like how dare you). I finish my mimosa and I say, "well, it's been a while since service has been around, so I'm going to just go in ask for another, would you like anything?" (I had no intention of getting him anything but by asking, that meant I was coming back.) He said no, and tried to give me his $20 again, which I refused, because if I didn't have money, I would not have been there. SO I grab my things and briskly walk into the restaurant - I am so frazzled that I forgot to put my mask on like an idiot (I'm vaccinated but no one could possibly know that) and I lock eyes with the waitress. She could clearly tell something was wrong. I tell her that there's a crazy dude at my table, who I do not know, that just plopped down, started eating my fries, and telling me these insane stories bout stabbing his ex and that he is Satan and there's going to be a fourth coming or whatever - she nods, talks to the owner, gets me a mimosa, as I hide behind the concealed windows. Homeboy gets kicked out (thank goodness) and I am for real trying to push off a full on panic attack, but the mimosa she got me was helping immensely. The owner comes back to me and apologizes and I say, "no it's fine - it's not like any of us knew this would happen!" I guess the scary dude threatened him as well??? This guy needs therapy and meds, I'm just sayin. Wait, maybe not meds. He had psychosis eyes. The owner comps my meal (which I didn't ask for nor expect) and I tried to pay but they wouldn't let me. I just think that they handled it so gracefully and I felt safe once crazy dude was away. The food was so yum, the drinks were so yum, the staff is SO NICE and truly care about you - the only sad thing was that I didn't get to truly enjoy the full experience because this person was having me believe I was about to be murdered. "This is it. I just die in Seattle. I have waited 29 years to come here and THIS is how I go!?" (Those were my thoughts.) I've only been here once and so only tried one thing, but I was really happy I did. After a morning shopping around Pike Place Market, we went looking for a lunch just a bit away from it. I got the Moule Frites, mussels and french fries. It was amazing, let me tell you. Plenty of mussels in a big bowl. The mussels were cooked as though the god of the culinary arts came into that kitchen and cooked them. They were big and tender and had the mildly briny flavor that frankly makes mussels more appealing to me than clams. Fries were great. Seasoned well. You could eat them plain (i.e., no condiment or sauce) with no problem. The broth they make with the mussels was also very special. I was lucky in that they offered me some bread too, cuz I looked carb starved obviously (HA!), and that was a great vehicle to soak up the broth. It was sorta thin, but not in a bad way. It had shallots up the wazzu and garlic and some other seasonings in there that I could not place, but ended up being amazing. Definitely worth a try.
