I'm new to Boston and to this salon so trusting a new stylist in a new city for a short hairstyle is a little terrifying. However, I felt like I was in good hands having Leslie do my hair. She gradually cut my hair short making sure I was comfortable with the length and always confirmed that we were on the same page on how much to cut. I showed her a few pictures on my Pinterest board of what I was looking for and she executed it perfectly. She was also really knowledgeable and gave me good tips on how to manage my hair until my next haircut. I couldn't be happier with the cut she gave me. As far as the salon goes, it was clean and there were plastic curtain dividers between the chairs but most customers were seated every other chair. I hate to write bad reviews but this place had me in tears. My hair was damaged by a stylist there who was using a hairdrier that was too hot. It was so hot that it burned my scalp. My hair texture has completely changed since then. It is now totally frizzy, doesn't form it's natural waves, tangles easily, has no shine, and feels so dry (this is after 1.5 inches of hair was cut - which would normally have my hair feeling fresh and healthy). When I asked them for help they denied that my hair was damaged (because it wasn't breaking off in clumps) and stated that a hairdrier absolutely could not cause heat damage (what planet are they on?). The stylist who damaged my hair was dismissive and rude to the point that I ended up in tears. The owner eventually came over to talk but ALSO refused to acknowledge that my hair could have been damaged by the hairdrier. She brushed off all my concerns and made me feel awful. At this point, I'm sad and scared because my wedding is next summer and I don't think my hair will completely grow out by then. They refused to refund me and said that they have a "no refund policy" (which is nowhere to be found on their webpage or in the salon). I am completely dumbfounded. I have never been treated this way by any company. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. The single star (which I guess is required anyway) is for Alejandro, a stylist who stepped in and gave me a complimentary hair mask. He was the only one there with some understanding of customer service. He was kind, understanding, and helpful but sadly this does not rectify the situation. read more

To start - the haircuts by Colleen and Fabrice are the best haircuts I've ever gotten in my entire life. My complaints w/ the salon are not at all about any of the services I received, rather with salon management. Everyone involved with my haircuts and washes were extremely talented, welcoming and pleasant. Unfortunately, though, I do not anticipate returning to this salon (after 2 years of coming) because of their off-putting policies and strange experiences I've had regarding discounts and scheduling. (I totally do not mind paying for a full price service if I do not have a discount to use - that was not the issue. The issue is that they seem to always find a reason why I cannot use the discount as advertised.) The first time I visited the salon I was given a card that outlined certain discounts you get on your second third etc. visits. When I tried to use it on my second visit, I was told that it didn't apply to my haircut because I saw a different stylist than I did on my first visit. (This rule was not written on the card anywhere, and the stylist I saw on my first visit was did not even work at the salon anymore.) Second, they have a referral policy where you get a discount for referring a friend to the salon. The first time I visited the salon, I got the discount because my sister referred me. (We did not see the same stylist.) However, on two separate occasions, I brought two friends that both got haircuts there for the first time at Viselli through me, but was told that I did not get any referral discount because they saw different stylists than I did. Third, the past two times I have gotten a hair cut here there has been some last-minute scheduling issue. For a salon that has such a strict policies about appointment changes and cancellations for their customers, one would think they would have more respect for others' time than has been demonstrated in these situations. For my last haircut, I was called 20 minutes before my appointment to ask if I could arrive 20-30 minutes late to my scheduled appointment time because the stylist was running later with a different client. I completely understand - things happen. However, I am less likely to be understanding in a situation such as this when it has happened more than once. This morning, I had an appointment with Colleen, and was called while on my way and told that she was not coming in today. I was posed with either coming into the salon to see a different stylist, OR a 20% off rescheduled haircut with Colleen. Again, I understand things happen and it could have been a COVID-related, family or personal emergency, but the fact that there has been some sort of scheduling issue the last two times I have booked a service here is off-putting and makes me not want to return for fear of future unpredictability. (Furthermore, from reading other yelp reviews, it seems that they do not afford this same understanding to customers, as they charged someone for a cancellation despite the reason behind the cancellation being that they were potentially COVID positive.) Because I was on my way, I decided to go through with the appointment with a different stylist - which was with Fabrice. It wound up being the best haircut I have gotten here. Fabrice is extremely talented and receptive! Lastly, I checked out their Yelp page after this morning's call to see if this was a pattern that affected others or if I just happened to experience this by chance. While doing so, I saw that they offer a student discount on haircuts (Photo of advertisement below - there is also no info button to learn more about it where it could have said its conditions. So there were none posted). So, when I asked about it today, I was told by the woman at the front desk that it is "only for your first visit to the salon and only for Mondays through Thursdays." Again, I would be more understanding of these policies if it was an isolated issue, but it is just so strange that every single time I try to use a discount that there is an odd and not-advertised reason why it doesn't apply. This is a very pleasant and clean salon with talented staff. To reiterate - none of my complaints are with any of the stylists. Still love Colleen and Fabrice and would 100% recommend them for those looking for an AWESOME haircut :) If these are truly the salon's policies then that is completely okay - I just think they should be advertised better (and be more consistent) if that is the case. read more

I really do love this salon. I used to have a regular hair stylist (Adriana) who was wonderful. But I had to walk in a couple of times and had the pleasure of meeting a few other stylists there (Jessica- amazing and Stanley - nicest guy ever). They have all done a great job and been super friendly. Prices are fair and wait times are not bad at all for walk ins if you're not too picky with what you need done. Reservations are best made via the website though as they rarely seem to answer their phone. Also note that you can't tip on your credit card. They do have an ATM on site and some of the staff do let you Venmo them though! read more

I started coming to Viselli specifically to get my vivid color done by Liz. I've had hot pink hair for a couple years, but became unhappy with the customer service from my last artist. Liz talked through my color options, and we settled on a plan to take my hair from a harsh magenta, to a softer, multicolored pink. Even though I wanted instant results, she advised a longer process to get the look I ultimately wanted without ruining the health of my hair. I sat down and she immediately started asking me about my hair, what I've done to it, and I how I care for it. Had my hair here done at the end of June and finally writing the review now as I'm behind on my Yelps. One word: OVERPRICED. You charge for a toner if I only want HALF a head of highlights? NEVER heard of such a thing and I've gotten my hair done all over the country, wasn't informed about this beforehand either. $90 for a blow dry that took LESS THAN 10 minutes (true time, I watched the clock). This made me LAUGH. OUT. LOUD. Highlights came out ok, everything was rushed including my conditioning treatment which NEEDS times to dwell in order to work... I'm positive that you can find better quality service for an acceptable price. Not the best in Boston. The end. read more

* UPDATE * Updating and adding another star to this review. I went back to the salon and was able to receive a partial refund. Cristina, the owner, was very nice about it which I appreciated. I went to another stylist to get my hair looked at and redone. She said my ends were completely fried and they had to cut off another 3 inches. --------- I booked my appointment with Leslie for a balayage and a haircut. At first I was a little alarmed at the prices ($307 for a balayage and $80 for a cut) but I figured it was worth it for a very experienced stylist. Everything went smoothly, Leslie was friendly, but then she started working on another person and made me wait an hour even though it only took 30 mins for my hair to lighten. Fast forward to the end result. At first I really liked how it turned out, she styled it with curls and took pictures to show me. She made me tilt my head in all different ways and hold my hair in a way that made it look good in pictures. I was quite happy with how it looked. However, as soon as I washed out my hair, I noticed the streakiness on one side of my hair. The balayage was uneven, and even the haircut didn't look close to done. It was choppy, uneven. I thought about getting a refund (at least for my haircut since you can't fix that) but reading these reviews it doesn't seem like a plausible option and people have not had luck disputing their charge or even getting a good response from the salon. Also be prepared for them trying to sell you hair products at the end. For nearly $400 spent, I wasn't happy with the result. read more

I went after growing out my hair from a terrible cut at a different 'salon' months ago and Emily had me go from bleh-maybe-just-put-that-in-a-pony-and-hide to glam-Hello!. Called to complain about my hair and they immediately offered to fix it for free. I had an appointment with the owner herself, and she was wonderful. Christina spent a good amount of time on my hair (45min). I went early and barely waited- I was offered tea or water quite a few times too! Christina made sure to check with me a few times as she was cutting my hair. For example, I wanted to chop off another 1.5 inches, she cut that off and asked if that length was fine. I wanted layers to frame my face, she checked the length with me in front of the mirror before cutting it. Christina is also very pleasant, I had a good time chatting with her. This place has incredible service. When researching where to go, I reached out to a few different salons (including one I had previously gone to). Weirdly, no one responded despite submitting online forms, emails, and trying to follow-up on the phone. Viselli Salon was the only place to immediately respond, and made sure to follow-up via email and a phone call. I appreciated the attention to helping with client questions, and being so understanding with scheduling. Check-in was simple. The salon has a really professional, and welcoming atmosphere. The staff works together to make sure you have what you need. I got there a bit earlier than planned and they were very kind & accommodating. Multiple staff members offered beverages, and made sure I was comfortable while waiting for my appointment. (I usually just bring something to read in case I'm early, but I did appreciate their willingness to make sure I was set.) Jessica was my stylist, and did a wonderful job. It had been a while since my last haircut (+6 months), so I figured there would be a lot to cut off. The start of our appointment was a quick but thorough consultation discussing my day-to-day styling, and what I wanted. Jessica never made me feel embarrassed about the delayed time between my past haircut appointments; rather, she asked questions about my needs for my hair so that the haircut & styling would work with my busy schedule. I didn't catch the name of the person who washed my hair, but they also did a wonderful job! The haircut itself was great. Jessica is efficient and very detail-oriented. She worked quickly, but I never felt rushed. She never pushed selling any products during the appointment either. She instead gave great advice on the products she was using in my hair during the appointment, and explained how certain products might affect or help attain a certain look. I learned a lot. She also made me feel at ease to ask questions about the other services they provide. Highlights versus balayage, etc. The processing time required. What to consider if I wanted to do something like that. The upkeep (especially with my work schedule), and how it would work with my hair texture & color, etc. She kindly answered while cutting my hair, and gave honest feedback. I appreciated her kindness and candor. The price for the haircut was $70. They don't charge extra for long(er) hair, which is nice. And a blowdry is included. For the professionalism, skill, quality, and overall experience, the price is more than fair. While you can charge all services to a credit card, they only take cash for gratuity. I might not be able to afford to get my hair done as regularly as other clients (scheduling-wise and financially speaking), but I will definitely return to this salon for my next cut. read more

After I received a botched pixie cut I grew out to a short bob, I desperately needed a major hair rescue. About 1.5 years ago, I booked an appointment with Adrianna after purchasing either a Groupon or LivingSocial deal (I don't remember). It was one of the best decisions I ever made! When I arrived at the salon, I was delighted to be greeted by the woman at the front desk, who was welcoming and sweet. I believe it may have been the owner. Adrianna is very sweet, professional, and meticulous. She took her time to listen to me and analyze my hair situation. I let her know that I wanted the cut to be easy to maintain and grow out if I wanted to, not too choppy. We decided on a compromise between the styles of Michelle Williams and Rihanna at the time. The result was a fabulous, sexy, yet chic do I was in love with. It was definitely my favorite haircut of all time. Fabrice has been a Godsend! Ever since I went natural in 2012, I have had a string of bad hair stylists who didn't understand how to care for my coils. Things got worst around the time of my wedding because I could not find a stylist to do my hair. I didn't know what I could do with my hair and therefore, I didn't have a clear vision for what I wanted and I so desperately needed for someone to guide me in the right direction. Six days before my wedding, I reached out to Fabrice after seeing her bio on FaceBook (Monday August 24th). We made an appointment to meet that Wednesday, August 26th. She came to the rescue and showed up to my house with a couple of ideas for what we could do with my hair. We settled on a style that day. And low and behold, she showed up to my hotel room on Sunday, August 30th and the rest as they say is history! My wedding day was one of the most magical days of my life and Fabrice played a large role in that. She made me look like a princess and styled my hair a heightened version of my natural look. Since my wedding, Fabrice has been my go-to hair stylist and the secret to my mane. She cuts and colors my hair. She goes beyond as just a stylist as she recommends treatments for long term hair improvement. Upon her recommendation I sought out a dermatologist who has been treating a serious condition I never knew I had, thanks to Fabrice's observation and recommendation. I started out with box black/dark coarse hair. I had used all kinds of different brands of dye in the past. Basically, I was the worst possible candidate for someone who wanted to go blonde, but Kashmir has done an incredible job, nothing short of miracles. Just after one session I was already a rich "Beyoncé blonde," and with the superior products and advice I was given, I think my hair is actually healthier than it was before all the bleaching. Truly amazing experience. Their customer service is also so incredible. I get offered drinks and magazines and eye masks and all these luxuries that make me feel like a total queen. So incredible. With how good their services and products are, I'd be satisfied even if they were mean, haha. It is so difficult to find that one hair stylist who does a good job. I am so glad that I met Annlouise Welch. She definitely knows her hair. I had her do my hair twice. Once was a hair cut and the other was a partial highlight and colour. I had my hair dyed green and at first I wanted to bleach my whole hair but I knew I would damage it so I decided to just have partial highlights and have my whole hair dyed green. Horrible cut and color. First time trying it I went to get more subtle highlights since mine had grown out and she literally bleached the highlights... I'm naturally a dark brunette. I wanted them to look natural/subtle and they were extremely streaky, yellow and didn't even go all the way to my roots. I literally look so stupid. Also was completely uneven, more color on one side than the other, had to ask her to fix it and tone it down. Now my whole head is a different tone than I'd like it to be and some of the pieces she tried to tone down are like a dark grey color now. On top of that, I asked for 2in off the bottom and face framing layers.... My hair looks so choppy, doesn't evenly blend at all and she cut like 3-4in off. I'm so pissed. The fact that this cost nearly $400 is such a slap in the face. I never ever leave reviews but go somewhere else I beg you. read more

Terrible Salon. I wanted blonde balayage highlights, ended up with brassy orange hair color. I tried to not cry leaving the salon. Literally showed her the picture of the hair color I wanted but ended up with something completely different and my hair more damaged and dry. Completely upset with this place. My appointment was at 1:45pm and I did wait until 2ish to be seen, but she apologized sincerely and I didn't have anything pressing to go back to, so it didn't bother me. It was my first time seeing her, so she asked me a lot of questions about my hair - how I fix it everyday, how much length was I comfortable to lose, what was my end goal, etc. I was never asked that many questions before getting a haircut, so it already made me feel good that she really took her time to get to know what I really wanted. And I got exactly what I wanted - layers, movements but still has length! I fixed it the next day and I think it looked even better! I can't wait for it to grow longer and go back to see her again! I made my first visit to Viselli two weeks ago after finally coming to terms with the fact that I needed a haircut. I'm relatively low-maintenance and my hair is too, but when sitting down with Tim, I fell in feel in pretty heavy like with the beautification process. In the span of an hour, he gave me exactly the cut I was looking for while selling me on the idea of putting the bit of the color he'd cut from my hair back into it. All while being incredibly kind and funny, making it incredibly easy to return to his chair the following weekend for balayage, which is fancy for, "highlights for lazy people." What else can I say?
