Freezer door with sticking problem caused by the technician. The refrigerator is only 1 year 8 months old.
    John L.

Needed repair work on a GE refrigerator/freezer that was in use for only 1 year and 8 months. A loud noise was coming from the evaporator fan. This company had a 4.9 rating on Google reviews based on 408 reviews. This rating was for the DC business. I contacted them and they set up a repair visit through their MD business. The visit was two days later on a Saturday. The trip fee and diagnosis costed $59. The $59 is eliminated if you have them repair it. The technician removed the freeze door and the freezer back wall to get to the fan and evaporator. The evaporator was coated with ice, so the noise was due to the fan scraping the ice. He deiced the evaporator and put everything back together. A new control module was needed because the defrosting wasn't working right. He needed to order the part. I had to wait until Monday for the repair. The refrigerator worked, but started making the same noise on Sunday night. After the technician left, I attempted to put a few things into the freezer. The freezer drawer made a thunk sound when I opened it. While closing the drawer, it would get stuck 3 inches from full closure. It required a hard push to close it. It had never been like that until the technician took it apart. I called the company on Saturday night and left a message to complain about it. A woman called on Sunday to say that she would put in a work order for the door and they would talk to the technician about the door problem. Everything was fixed on Monday. The evaporator was thoroughly deiced, the control module was installed and the door was fixed. Come to find out, the technician installed the screws to the door rails backwards. That caused the tall screw heads to hit the plastic bump stops in the rails. That stopped the door from closing easily. Total repair time was about 3.5 hours. 2 hours for the first visit and 1.5 hours for the second. Total cost was $375.61. The control module costed $184. That price was only $9 more than the online price at a parts supplier. There was no charge for the door. The work was thorough, the technician was reliable and professional, the company was responsive and the cost was reasonable. I would use them again. GE refrigerators, maybe not.
