The food was delicious. I had the salmon. My date had the filet mignon. Kudos to the chef. Definite area of opportunity was the decor of the restaurant. No character or ambiance but I also couldn't see the whole place from my table so I can only rate the area that I was in. We had reservations for dinner at Vitello's and a reso for cocktails at the Rendition Room. The hostess was my greatest disappointment. We told them that it was our first time, hoping for a nice evening. The hostess suggested we merge our resos and have dinner in the Rendition Room. We waited for our table but after waiting in the cold for 15 mins the answer ended up no. We further waited for our dinner table, then they stuck us in a corner against a brick wall by the kitchen. We tried to stay positive. After we paid the check, we asked the waitress to inform the hostess that we were ready for our next reso. Again we waited...20 mins go by. The waitress never came by once, no hostess either. We had to get up, put on our coats, walk out to the front to ask the hostess what was going on. She said that she would've seated us at our reservation time which was 8p. Keep in mind it's 756p at this point and she asked us to wait again. There was no communication the whole night, no ease of movement through the reservations, only waiting and waiting and waiting. We were there to have a nice date but we did not feel wanted. I won't be back. Very disappointed. The Rendition Room saved our night. Scott and Ren were great. No one can be mad with Scott around. read more

Advice to management: you were great at being the friendly neighborhood Italian spot. Double down on it and you will thrive. I think this may be the worst Italian restaurant I have ever been to. I gave it two stars specifically because the service was good. The food was just horrible. Like I thought a mistake was made or someone was playing a prank. Started with the meatballs. Super dry and it remind me of the microwavable ones from Trader Joes. Kind of blah. The lasagna taste like chef-boy-ardee and it had a spaghetti sauce taste. I couldn't finish it and I always finish my food. Crispy and dry as well. The cheese pizza was just as bad. Again...sauce taste like spaghetti sauce. I am assuming they have just one red sauce they interchange? Caccio E Pepe dish was the worst...maybe. It taste like a salt lick. We added pancetta and maybe that was it...but again could not finish it. Just bad...like real bad. Heard about this place for years and finally decided to try. Obviously will not go back. Service was excellent. Ambiance has always been great, from back when my bosses used to drive over from Sun Valley to hold employee working meetings here in the early 1990s. Now? They've gone bougie soft. Food is overpriced in general. Now, I will always order soup in a venue because 1) I love soup in general, 2) I'm an accomplished amateur home cook that makes soups every week all year, and 3) from my experience, soups can be very difficult to pull off in a commercial setting. Years ago Vitello's minestrone was a rustic, earthy perfection. It made me start learning how to cook Mediterranean soups of that caliber at home, since I was the typical baby boomer weaned on Campbells at home lol. Sadly, nowadays Vitello's soups are apparently rock bottom priority, because what I was served could have come from a half can of Progresso. For my own perspective, I read an entire years worth of Vitello's reviews, and the #1 complaint about foods is the minestrone! So it's not just me being bitchy. I couldnt taste any aromatic vegetables or Parmesan rind in the broth. Not even a bay leaf. It's simply an overly tomatoey sauce based soup with canned vegetables. Definitely not worth $8-10. It's evidently supposed to be vegan, which I have no issue, but I make great tasting vegan soups with meat and cheese umami taste substitutions at home, so I know vegan shouldn't be an excuse for tasteless. Moving on... The Caesar salad with chicken was small and also overpriced for the size but delicious. Crisp tender Romaine, dressing was spot on, chicken well prepared. The best part was the garlic knots, small but tender, 6 per order, topped with garlicky melted butter and delicious. But to pay $94 for two mediocre soups, two small salads and a plate of garlic knots?!?! Cmon Vitello's. You can do better. read more

Yesterday was their first day reopening and it was also my birthday!! I had such an awesome experience!! The service was fantastic and the food was so delicious!!! I had a really fun time at Feinstein's upstairs... The wait staff was attentive and our food arrived quickly. But the lasagna was SOOO salty that I couldn't get through it. The pizza was decent though. It wasn't great but it was decent. That said, the neapolitan pizza is very thin crusted so if you're hungry I would suggest getting something else to go with it. Huge shout out to Dave at the bar, manager Jon, and hostess Morgan! Matt the owner cares so much and is a presence almost daily. Exceptional food and service every time. Portions are large. Feels like home. It's not hard to understand why Vitello's is such a staple in town that survived when others didn't. Recently discovered there's two "secret" speakeasy rooms. Every event I have been to whether it's live music, comedy or a murder mystery has been a smash. Highly recommend for a sexy date night upstairs, bringing your parents and/or the kids to brunch, swinging by for just one drink with Dave, or bringing the dog to the patio! 10/10 every single time! The help was wonderful. We haven't been there since I moved to Monrovia over 10 years. I must say I was kind of thrown off by the loss of atmosphere on the main floor. The outside was very nice & people looked very happy. When passing the table on our way to the hostess I peeked into what was in the dishes being delivered to the tables. We had some confusion ( on my part I'm sure) about making a reservation for the speaker easy not the main floor "Vitello's. However, the hostess quickly made the change and away through the wall we went ( the hidden entrance to the speak easy section. The light is very minimal, with candles & small lamps ( in front of the fireplace). There were four of us and we loved it. Something wonderfully different & we laughed and drank some signature cocktails, and ordered some dishes from Vitello's. Delicious! Fun! Unique with great employees. Go! Vitello's Restaurant is located on a lovely tree lined street, easy access from the freeway. I normally don't venture this far from Long Beach, but tonight was the CD release party of my friend guitarist JJ Sansaverino. In addition, to the restaurant and bar area downstairs-they have Vitello's Supper Club upstairs. Jazz and comedy acts set in a small space , leading to getting more personal with the performers. My dinner consisted of a house dinner salad, with a delicious vinaigrette. All the plates looked tempting, but I decided on the meat lasagna. The sauce was delicious, and cooked just right~ I was trying to be a lady, but ended up eating it all! Dessert was burnt sugar sorbet-and I wished I could have licked the bowl. Service was great, I really enjoyed my server Alyssa. She suggested several food options for me, and was very attentive throughout the whole night. I went to the the event alone, and she offered to seat me at a table with other guest. Overall, I was pleased with the service and the restaurants appearance-very upscale in the bar/lounge area. I went there for their lasagna, advertised as layers with Ricotta and meat etc. It wasn't. Not a layer of ricotta in sight. Being from the east coast and used to the real thing, I was pretty disappointed. My friend had spaghetti and meatballs and said the sauce was "spicy." Mine was ok. The meatballs, I must say, we pretty close to the real thing. Wine, a little bitty glass, was $12. Comeonnnn! Served by a bunch of obvious amateurs but they were friendly. Overall, I'm still searching for authentic Italian in Los Angeles. I'd heard Fabs in Sherman Oaks was the best but alas, it has closed. Darings. There are too many things wrong to list; here are just a few. First, because I have Celiac disease and a wheat allergy, I have to eat gluten-free. They have gluten-free choices, but my favorite is the arbiatta sauce with Gluten-free penne pasta. The menu does not have arbiatta sauce, but you can request it. However, they no longer have the GF Penne, so the choices are spaghetti and fusilli. So my husband and I ordered the spaghetti, and they cut the spaghetti in thirds. Who cuts spaghetti in thirds? I guess to make it stretch, and it was still just a handful. Then, they used to have a flourless chocolate lava cake, which was decadent and divine. Now, they have a GF flourless, tasteless chocolate cake with some "chocolate sauce." AWFUL! Lastly, the decor has changed so much since we started going close to 20 years ago. Then, it was closer to fine dining, and now, it looks like a Black Bear diner. Just add sawdust and peanut shells on the floor. Whoever Vitellio's consultant is, they should be fired or give the money back for such terrible advice! Last night is the last time we will be going to Vitello's. Just skip Vitello's, and go to Granville, especially if you want Gluten free penne, and they have better flourless chocolate cake. My wife and I went to a friend's show. The atmosphere was great, drinks were great, and the sound in the room was actually great, some of the best sound I've listened to in Los Angeles, CA. The one star missing is just for a combination of small concerns. The location is great in Studio City, but unfortunately, the actual location has absolutely no parking except for valet, everything else is street parking. The place fills up pretty fast, and so sometimes you have to park pretty far down the street. Like I said, not a big problem, but my wife had on heels, and so I imagine many women deal with the same thing. The other thing is again small, and not much that can be done, but the show floor is upstairs, and there's only one way and only one way down, so that creates some headache, but again, not big, and judging by the age of the building, there's probably nothing that can be done. Last, the food portions were extremely small. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs, and my wife ordered the lasagna. We ordered them to go, so we could enjoy the drinks and show with our friends, but when we got our food, we literally ate it there because it would've been no point in taking it home, and then being hungry again at home. Needless to say, we got a bite to eat afterwards. The portions were the exact same size of the prepacked meals that are available at Sprouts for $7 or less. As stated before, the place is great, and we'll definitely be back for more shows, drinks, etc. but there were a few small concerns, but not big enough to stop us from coming back. read more

I love lasagna and I decided to taste Vitello's lasagna. I had purchased 2 lasagnas with tip included I paid $66. I think it is on the expensive side for the size it was about 4x4 (inches). The parking attendant/valet rep was out of this world he was very courteous, respectful, helpful and etc. The lasagna honestly didn't have any flavor to it what so ever and the tomato sauce was so overwhelming (with no meat) it was a heartburn waiting to happen to a point I was using a spoon to gather the tomato sauce. It seems like one of those places that probably has two really good things somewhere in that menu but nothing we got was close to it lol. We stopped by here on a recommendation. Drinks average about $15. Parking is very easy, they offer valet parking (entrance to the rear of the restaurant off Woodbridge st) the linguine and clams with red spicy sauce is phenomenal ! Food: C+ The food under this new ownership is just okay. Nothing great or worthy of its asking price. The food comes out warm. We had a pizza (which looked and tasted made and reheated and we had a sandwich that came out room temperature and extremely oily. The food took maybe 5 minutes to come out after ordering it.... Yikes. Service: D- I don't know the servers name that helped us on 4/16/2023 around noon, but he did the absolute bare minimum. He came to our table three times. Once to get our order. Once to check to see if we got the food. And once when we had to leave our table to go find him and ask for the bill. We ate our food with no water or refills. They charge $8 for water ($9 for beer btw), all of their food has become INSANELY salty, and they've started charging out the ass on everything. You're really going to charge me a 3.5% "kitchen appreciation fee"?? How about you stop depending on your customers to subsidize your kitchen staff's wages. Your prices have gone up a ridiculous amount ($26 for a chicken Milanese 4 months ago, now it's $32), and you seem to be shaking down customers at every turn. Wow this place was fantastic: ordered Lasagna and the margherita pizza, ultra thin and delicious. The lasagna was fresh, meaty and the sauce was flavorful, zesty, and not sweet or overly tomato-y.
