A rotisserie chicken with flavors that seem to dance in your mouth. The plantains are one of my favorite side items as the sweetness offsets the salty chicken perfectly! The slightly spicy canary beans are similar to a pinto/baked beans idea and clearly my second favorite side! Whether it's truly a healthier fast food option or not, it's certainly feels that way for sure! Being from Miami and all of its pantropical influences, I have a penchant for foods with a tropical flare. Thus, I have had Viva Chicken (Peruvian chicken joint) on my list for quite a while. While they will not make me forget the divine offerings of Miami's Pollo Tropical, Viva Chicken makes some very good dishes. Chicken: generally moist, tender, and delicious. The breast was leaning dry, but not too bad. The skin was good, but revealed a slight shortness of seasonings--the seasoning was good, just not enough. Fried plantains: these were delicious. Cut into large chunks and fried, they had the perfect amount of charred black ends, caramelized brown, and yellow, fruity sweet plantain with perfect texture underneath. I would come here again just for these. Canary beans: these were just average to me. They were cooked to the proper consistency, but the seasoning had a slight bitter element that lingered on my palate. Green beans: these ain't your me maw's green beans. But they are no less delicious. VC has swapped fatback and cooking beans to death (delicious in its own right) for steaming gently and exotic seasonings. They are thin, bright green, crisp, and have seasonings that include ginger. They are truly delightful. No photo on this outing because I had to eat one thing at a time in my truck due to the COVID-19 restaurant closure. For an authentic tropical meal, Viva Chicken delivers. read more

This was great for what it is. A "quick service" chicken restaurant. Great rotisserie chicken that was juicy and flavorful. They say they are Peruvian style and they do pay a little homage to the country with the menu choices of sides. The Chuafa was a fried rice with a little bits of veggies mixed in and the Solterito was a little different from the salad that I had served to me when I was in Lima, Peru. This salad was minus the hot peppers and black olives that were present in the "real" solterito. I do though understand that sometimes "ethnic style" restaurant have to alter their menu to suit the tastes of the local population. The fried Yuca was decent too. There are some good sauces that are out on a bar in the middle of the lobby. A spicy sauce, yellow garlic sauce, and a cilantro-like green sauce. They were good. They also have churros for dessert which is not necessarily a Peruvian dessert but they were pretty good. I could eat at Viva Chicken EVERY SINGLE DAY! Everything that I've tried on the menu has been mouth watering! My favorite dish is "The Great" in a wrap and I add cilantro infused rice to it. I get an order of plantains and green beans to accompany it...and it never fails! The sauces (especially the yellow one) are so good! Beyond the food, the customer service at this location definitely keeps me coming back! There are many young people that work here, but the staff is really great and so are the managers. I often ate at Viva Chicken when in Concord. I'm so excited they are in Winston Salem now. I've been three times already! In Concord I always used to get 1/4 rotisserie chicken. In Winston I left my comfort zone and tried something different... "The Great" sandwich on ciabatta bread. While I love the chicken, the sauces are my favorite part. Especially the green one and the red one, mixed together! The fried plantains and solterito are amazing. On my third visit I had earned enough from their loyalty program that I received $5 off. I was buying for my wife too so it would probably take 4-5 visits for one person to eat a reward. I enjoy Viva. As an avid chicken lover and self appointed chicken connoisseur it is hard to get in my top 3 of delicious chicken; Viva is not quite there but is close. Part of it is the roasted chicken- my only complaint with the chicken is it comes off a bit dry in wraps, sandwiches, and salads (but again, that may just be my slight against roasted chicken). The dryness is not a major concern due to their amazing sauces, including a delicious queso option (you have to ask for it at the counter if you are dinning in) and others that you can dip for yourself! I personally can't stand it (tastes like overly-sugared-up bubble gum as soda) but you can't call yourself a Peruvian restaurant and not serve Inca Cola. It's against the law. * All of the dining room furniture matches * Roll of napkins at the table * Unlike Crisp & Juicy this place looks like it doesn't run out of chicken * Fries are delicious * House salad is very tasty Because this is Yelp, who uses bad reviews as a means of extorting money from businesses, I have to list the cons: Cons: * Chicken isn't as spicy as I am accustomed (brine it until it shrivels!) * No "con todo" option (coleslaw & fries) * All of the dining room furniture matches (mismatching gives it character) Is it like Slappy's? I usually eat here 2-3 times a week. But lately I've been met with some awful customer services. I order curbside and called the number and was met by someone rude. I asked for my food and the woman said "we don't have anyone for pick up!" And she hung up on me. Being high risk I don't go in any restaurants I called back and asked for a refund since no one could bring out my things and when asking for a refund the lady yells "I don't know how to do that, what parking space are you in?!" We tell her, and she hangs up again. She brings the food out and shoves it in the car window. No greeting was made, no hellos were shared, she was absolutely rude. I haven't been back since and being someone who orders so frequently it's disappointing to have such awful customer service. read more
