4 of the 9 nachos drenched in some kind of tasteless sauce
    Jason C.

Well service was friendly and the chatty bartender knew her beers. That's a plus. Beer was good but not great. Pros: happy hours on Friday and Saturday. That's not common at all. Plenty of affordable apps on the menu and $6 drafts. Nice deal Nice historic Inn with some old touches left alone. A smaller dining area in the front and larger area in back as well as a bar. Cons. Decor. Lightning a bit harsh, like a grocery store. Tables chairs are petty cheap looking. The bar seating is small but decent seating area. Back room looks like a high school cafeteria. Very Open bunch of tables and same cheap seating. No cozy booths that you'd expect Food. Only had the pork nachos. Nice size plate with only 9 square flat but delicate nachos. Good for happy hour app but if it's the same size for other times it is a bit small Taste. Well the pork was tender and seemed nicely seasoned. The reason I said seemed is because it was absolutely drowning in some kind is herbed sauce. I mean swimming in it. So way overloaded it was dripping wet and such a mess we needed a second set of napkins. Too much for hand food. Tasted bland as well. Supposedly was crème fraiche Would have been an interesting sour cream replacement if it was not so slightly seasoned it did not add a thing except more wetness than my dogs' slobber (and less tasty) they also were supposed to have a cheese sauce that was not noticeable at all in contrast to the oodles of white sweat sauce. I assume the recipe said "drizzle" the sauce on and the chef thought it said "drench". It would probably save the pace hundreds of dollars in sauce per month by not using such a huge amount. I will likely give the place another try and might even order the nachos again but sauce(s) on the side to get a chance to drizzle myself and taste the pork Pic included

Great spot for a yummy lunch or dinner! The pizzas were all delicious and a good size to split or take home leftovers. There was a bar on the other side of the place that we went to after dinner which was fun. There is plenty of room for larger parties / families and a wide range of delicious options on the menu - I'd recommend for a family / groups. The food did take a little longer than we thought to come out, but the service and food were good!

Always nice to see a new joint in the hood, right? limited review: I can't comment on the food, but we stopped in for a craft cocktail to check it out. Pros: the interior revisions are beautiful - kudos for design/architecture; very friendly and quick service, wide ranging, mid-tier menu with a little something for everyone? Beer selection embraces other brands... Cons: the 2 cocktails we ordered were simply too sweet (one was a sour and the other an old fashioned) for our taste. @ $14 a pop, wasn't willing to "go there" again. IMHO - more attention to detail before i'd reconsider on that front. Didn't try the beer as the only "house beers" were IPA's at this point. So i'm torn - will likely try it again, sans craft cocktails, to see if the food makes up for the whiff on that front.

Different cheesesteak #1055 in the last five years. Special Wednesday drinks and cheesesteaks with Amigo Dan. They are in the newly renovated historic Ship Inn building. We loved our Old Fashions. The Prime Rib cheesesteak was very good but at $19 it needed more meat. You can see a lot of roll in my pictures. High quality ingredients.

I am a big foodie and when I saw that the ship inn, where I had fond memories of working as a server, was gone I had to check it out. Walking in was a breath of fresh air! The staff was welcoming and the beer brewed by VK was refreshing! I ordered the buffalo wings & they gave us soo many it was perfect for sharing, cooked well done and delicious with a little kick, we also had the cheesesteak, which was perfect for 2! It was made with caramelized onions and mushrooms, which is my favorite soo delicious. Served on a toasted sesame seed bun and the quality of the beef was superb and tasty, I loved it! It was the best cheesesteak I've had in a long time I got the cheese sauce on the side and it was perfect for dipping the fresh Crispy Fries that are served with all the sandwiches, for dessert The smoky Manhattan was perfect! Great job Y'all can't wait to come back for more

Wow - what an improvement over the previous Ship Inn!! The same location and same building but the vibe has turned from an old stuffy boring place where blue haired grand mothers go to a vibrant cool brew pub!! During my first visit, the restaurant and bar were packed so we had a few drinks by the bar while we waited 30 minutes for a table. Bar tenders and wait staff were very friendly and attentive. The margarita with salt foam was great and also had a very nice Manhattan. Food was good - my wife had a burger and I had the mussels. Only issue is that their license has not been finalized yet for their own beers so they are currently serving canned beers. Once they start selling their own brews this will definitely be a place I will visit on a regular basis!

Nice place still finding its way as relatively new. Not inexpensive so know before you go.

Overall, The Jockey is solidly average when it comes to food, service, and ambiance. Nothing outstanding, but nothing terrible either. Where The Jockey truly shines, though, is its Happy Hour value, which is easily the best in the area. Drinks are a great deal compared to nearby spots: half off all beers on tap, plus discounted house wine and cocktails. The Happy Hour appetizer selection is larger than most, and the quality is surprisingly good. Buck-a-shuck oysters! Only one variety, but for a dollar, you can't complain. Bonus points for offering Happy Hour on weekends, which is rare. If you're in the area during Happy Hour, it's absolutely worth stopping in.

My reviews are different. I do not announce myself or tell anyone. I am here to do a review!!…read more It was my birthday week, and unfortunately, my Tesla had been vandalized. True to my nature as a "prior proper planner," I already had an appointment scheduled in West Chester, so I headed down to get the repairs underway. While I waited, I decided to find some local eats. A quick Google search led me to The Jockey just outside of Philadelphia. The reviews mentioned it was a family-owned joint, and the decor looked incredibly inviting. The aesthetic actually reminded me of The Polo Bar in NYC; it has that same sophisticated, equestrian charm. Personally, I love horses--I know all the horses in the world, and they know me--and I know the horses. so I was eager to check it out. My mother picked me up from the dealership, and we "galloped" our way down to the restaurant. The Food I was surprised to find the place packed at 12:30 PM on a Tuesday, but I assumed we had just hit the peak lunch rush. We started with the calamari, my mother ordered a sandwich, and I opted for the salmon with drunken noodles. Honestly, I think the chef in the back was more "drunk" than the noodles. * The Salmon: It arrived super crisp and borderline burnt. * The Calamari: Overcooked, greasy, and wet--it felt like it hadn't seen a strainer or a paper towel since leaving the fryer. * The Sauce: The marinara was watery, almost as if the back-of-house was running low and decided to stretch it with water. The Verdict The only saving grace was the aesthetic. The decor is lovely, and they have a very inviting event space in the basement. However, you can't eat the wallpaper. * Food: 2/5 (A hard pass on the kitchen's execution.) * Service: 3/5 (The staff never checked on us while we were eating.) * Location/Convenience: 4/5 (Close to everything in a great area.) I likely won't be visiting this place again. I'm genuinely surprised this is a local favorite in such an upscale area--perhaps the locals just haven't ventured out enough to know what they're missing.

Do not park in the lot next to the building because it is for the US Postal Service and your vehicle will be towed. There is a parking garage around the corner on the corner of Walnut and Chestnut Streets. The cost is 25 cents for every 15 minutes. We ordered an Old-Fashioned with Woodford and a Blueberry Shaker. The Blueberry Shaker was only 3 dollars more than the regular drink and it yielded a total of 4 drinks for my partner. The drinks were good. For our meals we had the Steak and Shrimp Bourbon, Bourbon Street Burger, and a side Caesar Salad. Everything tasted very good. The decor is New Orleans Style although not completely authentic. First, my girlfriend and I arrived to the restaurant. We requested a specific table, and the host was gracious enough to do so. We then waited 8 minutes before our table was even touched, and it was just our (server? No intro, nothing) ASKING us if we'd like water. We say yes, and then waited an additional 5 minutes just to receive water in PLASTIC cups. Again, this person never told us his name, and we weren't even sure if he was taking our order or not. He appeared to be about 18, and was most certainly high Then, we requested glasses, and since it had been 15+ minutes since we sat down, said we were ready to order when we got the glasses. The guy took our order. We both got cocktails, which also took about 10 minutes. Finally, our appetizer came. We weren't even halfway through before the entrees came, we probably had about 10 minutes to finish it. This all could have been negated if our order was taken correctly, and things could have been staggered correctly. The "two bite" check occurred within 30 seconds of our food being dropped, and by then I hadn't even touched my food. It was way too early and felt like he was just trying to get it out of the way. At that point both my girlfriend and I were just ready to eat and we said everything was fine. I had to ask the guy for a bag on the way out, rather than him giving me one after our food was put into 3 boxes. I want to be empathetic of whatever was going on at The Social that Sunday. Yet, if you are going to make your steak $42, the service needs to justify that price. I will not be going back to The Social, and encourage their management to speak to their server who flubbed the ENTIRETY of my experience there. Myself and my girlfriend both work in the service / restaurant industry, and we know what good service is. We also understand that there are bad days. This was just abysmal. 4/10.
