Called back to gently point out this conduct was probably not a good idea...So, they did it again. I guess they are performing so incredibly well that they have the luxury to reject customers; 2 for 2 so far. I take it they SERIOUSLY don't want any business. It's visibly apparent this franchise recently attempted a brand/reputation make-over, but looks like their superficial 'brand-aid-fix' approach failed, judging from the still dissatisfied yelpers in their latest reviews. Talk (or words) are cheap; but ACTIONS reveal helluva lot more than retroactive posts and comments. Lastly, however MOST importantly, the front end staff is utterly clueless about their own menu; and forget about asking what they taste like or how they're prepared. They bug the kitchen staff with one fundamental question at a time-one by one-extremely tedious and FRUSTRATING!!! How r u gonna sell ur product if ur staff is completely ignorant of what ur selling? Furthermore, how can u allow the kitchen to send out orders without tasting it??? (My last order was inedible and charged me full a la carte price for a half-empty container-a lunch portion. i rarely eat chinese food when i'm on the westside because i grew up in the 626 where i could get any kind of chinese food i want. but once in awhile, i fiend for chinese food and i'm too lazy so i spend hours online trying to find the perfect spot to order from because either the places i've already tried i didn't like it the first time, or i gave it a second chance and it sucked so i keep trying new places with hoping for the best. so the first try at wacky wok, i was pleasantly surprised. i picked wacky wok over the other 3 options because they had cold peanut noodle salad. delievery was going to be 35 minutes and pick up was 5 minutes. either option was fine but i wanted to see where my food was coming from and i love asking for extra hot sauce. a la carte items come with rice which is always good to know. maybe chinese food is great when it's piping hot, maybe it prevents your tongue from tasting it completely. because when i brought it home and started opening up the white boxes of goodies and popped pieces of food in my mouth it was delicious. slowly as the food cooled down and i was eating like a normal person with utensils and sitting down, it wasn't as amazing as i thought it was but definitely still edible. there's something about eating takeout chinese food out of a the white boxes. it upset me when most of the westside changed up their packaging either to be more enviromentally conscious or to snazz up their takeout presentation with those nifty black plastic containers with the clear tops which are great to reuse and stuff but still i favor the generic white fold top boxes.. *peanut sauce cold noodle salad - surprisingly it had more than just noodles and sauce, it had large slices of cucumbers, julienned carrots, and other stuffs.. it could have used more sauce but decent. *combo fried rice - lots of goodies in it, a bit salty but again not too bad *orange chicken - i liked this the best out of everything, it was crispy, well sauced and in small pieces. it was also dark meat. (2 hrs later still crispy) *veggie lo mein - it's not bad but something isn't right.. i think if i charr it a little more and add some garlic it'll be amazing as leftovers *green bean in garlic sauce w/pork - i picked at the green beans as soon as i opened up the box but once it cooled down it wasn't as good. this is one of the 'special dishes' not sure why so special. they have chili oil at the tables and the garlic chili sauce, these are things that are important to me because if anything is inedible i can load it up with some hot sauce and eat it. i believe like any other place u can switch up the proteins but i noticed the chef doesn't really like to do that because it's not a traditional dish. he was saying how the ma po tofu comes with pork and how can he do it with chicken. the lady in front was yammering away in korean to the person who ordered it.. and then said just make it i know u dont' usually use pork but u can just do it this way. she said it in english to the guy who was talking to her in chinese.. i'm assuming she's the owner or some kind of management. but the korean influence could also possibly be why i wasn't putting down eat box after one bite. it's definitely not suberp but it's 'A-OK' and i'd order from them again when i need a quick chinese fix... and i'll have to remember to eat it fast. oh they have dim sum style appetizers. it's been about 2.5 hrs since i stopped eating the food but now after realizing how i might be able to make it taste better. oh they also have really yummy fortune cookies.. i'll have to ask for extras next time. i also noticed have BANG drinks.. like orange bang. i'll have to check on their shrimp and scallop dishes next time. read more

After about 40 or 50 unsuccessful attempts, my roommate, who swears by this place, took advantage of my weakened hungover state yesterday and finally convinced me to give it a shot. My immediate reaction upon walking in was, "Wacky Wok is a lot cleaner than I thought it would be." I always expected it to be a decrepit waste basket of an establishment. Quite the opposite. The floors were clean, the tabletops were granite, and none of the workers on staff had any visible sores or legions. I ordered the Mongolian Beef lunch special with fried rice and an egg roll. I was pretty underwhelmed with the meal to say the least. The chef used a violent amount of garlic and the quality of the beef was a little suspect. I guess that should come as no surprise though when you order a beef dish with origins that lie in Mongolia, a region founded by Genghis Khan - arguably one of the biggest pieces of shit in the history of the world. Anyways, the fried rice was also mediocre. The egg roll, however, was actually pretty baller. Two stars outta five. These guys put the "whack" in Wacky Wok. I don't think I could recommend this place to a friend. An enemy, maybe. Oh, speaking of "whack", there is a great underground rub and tug joint right across the street from Wacky Wok. I would actually change this to zero stars if I could, however sadly that isn't possible. After an error by Eat24 whereby my order was incorrectly placed for collection, the restaurant refused to make up a new order for delivery after Eat24 requested them too. They wanted to deliver the food that had been sitting for an hour, and was now presumably cold and soggy. Good on you Wacky Wok for losing a customer. read more

Just had delivs from the Dub Dub and the deliveryman showed up quicklike with hot food. The Won Ton was yum as was the Beef Chow Fun ... the Spicy Fried Chicken (basically 1/4 whole chicken that's chopped up w/ a szechuanesque sauce) was so so, but, I didn't know what to expect with that dish. Wacky Wok is the best tasting chinese food in my neighborhood! I'm a fan of the shrimp with veggies entree personally. The lunch specials are all really good. For the quality they offer, the price meets the expectation. My mother discovered it, tuned my sister and I to it, and I tuned a few friends to it too. Everyone's got a menu from Wacky Wok in my circle :) Unlike other Chinese takout joints, Wacky Wok makes me feel satisfied and the food feels clean when you taste it. No MSG/heavy flavoring aftertaste. Its clean, clean, clean. The people are very nice and you can tell that they pride themselves in making quality Chinese food and take-out. Dining in there is quite nice. Though the place is small, the efforts in Asian interior design is warm and welcoming. I give this place an A plus-plus-plus. The cashier girl isn't that friendly... When I go to an establishment the attitude of the workers really set the mood of the whole experience, so it will determine if I come back or not. Instead of asking if I wanted for here or to go, she just assumed it was to go which is not a bad going since I still got my soup after I asked. When I asked her what kind of soup they had, she didn't even care to tell me but instead told me to read the menu. There were two soups in front of you, you work at the restaurant and you know what you have... Why was it so hard to just tell me without the attitude. Remember this is New York style Chinese food (whatever that means).... The Orange chicken was not actually pieces of meat it was more like thinly sliced pieces of chicken skin smothered in Orange chicken sauce. I have been going here since I was 12 ( I am 35 now) I moved away from LA in 2001 but i STILL crave this place with a passion and try to go whenever i come home to visit my family. I only order their chicken chow mein. that is all i have ever ordered. it comes with amazing white chicken slices with veggies ( baby corn, water chestnuts etc) on top crispy noodles. when the sauce absorbs the noodles they becomes perfect. not crispy. damnit. I am craving it right now. I haven't found a dish this perfect in so long. someone send me some! Great MSG-filled, old-school Chinese like you had when you were a little kid (or in my case, a fat, picked on and mercilessly teased little kid). Has anyone ever shot a movie in here? They should. It's very cinematic. You can sit at the diner counter, the Chinese chefs have Jeopardy playing on an old TV....surreal. Good food too. Chinese food in LA gets a bad rap. I really like the Chinese food here...it's the Italian food that sucks. Its easy to pass by Wacky Wok but give it a try...you'll be glad you did. I had this place for lunch today. I was impressed. I was expecting something along the lines of panda express, but this place blows them away and unlike after eating panda feces, I feel pretty good right now 8 hours later. The highlight of the meal was the beef chow fun (generous portions of beef) and the shrimp with lobster sauce. The bok choy was crisp and fresh and the kung pao chicken was pretty good. Big portions, fresh ingredients, fast service and the price is right. The staff is way cool. There's really not too many good choices for Chinese food at these prices in the area, mostly of the crappy fast food variety... or horrible hyper-americanized glops of gross greasy grimey gopher guts like chin chin's. I have their lunch specials at least once a week, as I work close by. I've had most of them and they're all filling and tasty, and the price is great. My favorites are the wacky wok chicken, Sichuan chicken and the honey walnut shrimp. The fried rice that comes with the lunch special could use a little improvement (not crispy, nothing mixed in), but overall the quality of the meals are excellent. My girlfriend and I came here for lunch after a long walk along Venice Beach. We were pretty hungry & were craving Chinese food. Walked in and was immediately welcomed with great hospitality. We ordered the house special fried rice, beef low mein (typically it's chow mein in most other Chinese restaurants but it's called low mein here) and an order of lemon chicken. As a starter we got an order of cream cheese won tons (sort of like a small puff pastry stuffed with crab & cream cheese, then either fried or baked) and a side of their in-house sweet & sour sauce. It's was really good and I nice hold over for the main grub. The food finally came out and it was nothing short of amazing. First time I've ever had lo mein (chow mein) infused with minced garlic, very delicious. The fried rice had huge chunks of meat in every bite. The lemon chicken had a nice glaze covered all over the chunks. It was very flavorful and filling. The service was great and the guy at the front (sorry I'm not good with names) was helpful and very friendly. 5 stars well deserved. read more

Wacky Wok has become a staple in our quarantine diet. It's perfect for when you're craving and want great quality Chinese food without breaking the bank. The Chinese lettuce wraps are delicious and so refreshing! Could use a few more pieces of lettuce though. I didn't know what a sesame ball was before (shame on me) but now I feel like I can't live without them... Funny how that works. And of course the cheese wontons - I could eat so many I might turn into a cheese wonton. I know I've mentioned my love for soup before, but WOW the wonton soup is so great on so many levels! I'm not too picky a Chinese food eater. Really, I'm not. I do know what really good Chinese food is (being raised in Asia all my life) and also know what mediocre Chinese food tastes like as well. This was not even close to the Latter. I ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken, Hot sour soup and Pan fried noodles w/ beef. Ever single one scored a 1 out of 10. Maybe the Hot and Sour soup was a 2. I really don't know what some of the reviewers mean by "Chinese Comfort Food", but this stuff is probably some of the worst take-out Chinese food I've ever had. First time I tried this place, which was about a month or two ago, I was pleasantly surprised, but we tried it again last night and my opinion diminished a bit. The pot stickers and shrimp dumplings we had for appetizers were still on point, but the entrees were a little sub-par. My girlfriend had the special, Szhechuan Scallops and remarked that it tasted like it was made with ketchup. It did! Very sweet and way too many onions. I had Mongolian Beef and the meat was kind of tough. I should have stuff to the Wacky Wok Chicken that I ordered previously. I went to this place for years! We ate there at least once a week and it was place my dad would always bring soup from when I was feeling sick. It was a home staple. Now it's not the case. They changed ownership like 2 years ago and now it's just not the same. I was pretty sad when I found out the owners were leaving but asked the new guy to keep things the same. I slowly started to notice the difference and my once a week visit was a no-no. In fact I don't think I've been there in about 10-8 months. The last visit was just dissapointing. their food is great, however the one-star is because of both a customer not wearing a mask and even stepping behind the counter at one point but also one of the employees there, looked like a completely bald shaved clean gentleman was wearing his mask on his chin instead of over his mouth and nose. I will not be ordering from them again as I no longer trust them when it comes to my safety. They did nothing to make me feel like their food was safe, they did not ask the other guests to put his mask on and the other employee that did not have a mask on, just looked at me and walked away.
