Being originally from NYC this is not authentic New York Chinese take out as advertised. Had simplest dish to make sweet and sour chicken. First didn't like that they put sauce in chicken and not on the side and secondly the sauce was really bad. Even the fried rice wasn't good. Best Chinese food delivery restaurant in Venice! I love the garlic chicken with green beans and the hot and sour soup is amazing. It all feels healthy too, I don't get that full sick feeling after eating a lot. Ew. ew. EW! We live two blocks away and ordered delivery. It took an hour. We bought two a la carte items, a soup and an order of dumplings. FIFTY DOLLARS (with tip). Are you kidding? Well, honestly I wouldn't complain had the food been good. It wasn't even close to good. It was TOTALLY FLAVORLESS and swimming in greasy oil, even the rice was gross. Um, how do you mess up rice? This is my favorite chinese food place for lunch on the west side. The lunch specials are good, inexpensive, and made to order. Everything is fresh, beautifully presented, and somewhat delicate...not overpowering like some chinese food. The vegetables are crisp, and the flavors impressively distinct. Just love it. Our food was delivered punctually and that is the best we can say. We ordered a selection of dim sum. Four dishes and each was equally awful. We ate some of it because we were so hungry. The rest went in the bin. The pork ribs were undercooked, dry and tasteless. The mushroom and lettuce wrap tasted fermented, inedible. The rest of the meal was way below standard. Except for one, the sauces were not fresh, they came in packets. We will not order food from this place again. read more

I'm a visitor from St. Louis, MO. One of my goals while in California was to eat local food from restaurants I won't find at home. Today, I just happened to have a craving for Chinese. I looked up places near The Venice Beach Boardwalk and found the godsend Wacky Wok! I must say, of all the places I've eaten while in California, this was the absolute best! The food was so amazing that after I was completely stuffed, I ordered a second serving for the next day (seeing as I'll be in San Diego). And the price is totally reasonable! If you're craving any good food, visit these guys! They have carry out options AND dine-in options! They staff is amazing and the manager was the nicest guy I've ever met!! For any other frequent travelers, they promote themselves as New York style Chinese food. As a person who has visited and eaten Chinese food in New York, Wacky Wok is MUCH better! read more

This is a great value. It's not going to make the romantic date thing work, but if you want great food at a value price in Venice Beach, check this out. Service was friendly enough, might even have been friendlier if I spoke Chineese. They place seemed busy with takeout orders but still our food came in about 5 minutes. We ordered three dishes and each was delivered as it became availalble ensuring that it was as hot and fresh as possible. The ingredients too (vegetables) were of superior quality. I suspect its because of the volume of business they do out of a small space. No room to store anything. It has to be fresh daily and maybe twice daily. read more

Fantastic food. I'm from London and specifically sought this place out because I have good memories of dining here last time I visited LA 15 years ago. The food tasted just as good if not better than last time. The proprietor was friendly and told me they still have same chef as last time and he's training new ones up. Ron also visited with me. Okay....this is absolutely the worst kind of crap - from the quality of the cuisine, down to the packaging of the food. One dish was burnt and almost inedible; things like dumplings were stuck together in one big ball. Management does not care that the people who package the food don't care. There also can be delivery problems. I give up. California Wok Express was a very, very good local venue, but now it's closed. We gave Wacky Wok another chance and I must say that we were thoroughly impressed with the customer service. Make sure that you are very specific when you order and make sure that you understand the ingredients on the menu. We tried the lettuce wraps for the first time and they were excellent. They even prepared them with white meat for me after I had asked if they came with white meat and I was told they were and they gave me dark meat instead (the menu doesn't specify what type of meat they use for this dish). I've ordered food from Wacky Wok three times. The first time was good. The second time was not as good and last night's delivery was terrible. The shrimp fried rice seemed several days old and any kind of flavor was completely muted by the lack of freshness. The orange chicken seemed old and re-fried so many times that the meat was stringy and inedible. Totally disgusting. The steamed shrimp dumplings' sauce had an orange color, not found in nature, that was gloppy and terrible. The owner should be ashamed to allow food like this to be served to customers rather than to a trash dumpster. I was so mad throwing away money on garbage like this. Never again. I can make better Chinese food than this and I'm not even Chinese. Should be called WACK Wok with that WACK excuse for food. read more

We're NYers living in Venice. We love Chinese food and used to order from Wacky Wok (as the closest thing to NY Chinese) but gave up several months ago after they messed up one order too many. Decided to try it again tonight and the sad news is that there's been no improvement. The tofu with vegetables came without any tofu. The wonton soup is so salty that we'll be drinking water all evening. The moo-shu pork is not tasty and is also over-salted or has been soaking in tenderizer all day. Even the fortune cookies are soggy. The bag leaked all over the place and spilled on the floor. I'm totally over it. read more

For inexpensive, dive-y chinese, you can't beat this place. Their tofu dishes are well-spiced and lovely textured, and their chicken dishes, I'm told, equally devourable. They do a great green bean, and their spring rolls are tasty. My daughter and her friends love the noodle dishes, and like most Chinese places kids are welcome. We've been eating here for years, and although it's not always the same chef, the food is always good. "Off the menu" Kung pao tofu is a delight, spicy or not. The atmosphere is well, it's not where you'r take a first date. Maybe not even a second date. But you will go with your family if you're on a budget, or with friends, and they do deliver. Also, they are right next to one of the least expensive gas stations in the area, reason enough to go. Now I've blown it. It'll be busy all the time, I suppose. I was hoping to find a decent chinese restaurant near me and decided to give this Venice location a try. I ordered the Wacky Wok Chicken and Vegetable Fried Rice to go. The chicken was mostly dark meat which I dislike and the sauce tasted bland. The fried rice had the occasional pea pod and corn but was sparse on vegetables. I would have given this place one star, were it not for the fact that I've only been there once! Some people say that they give a place only one chance, but I know several places, that were you to pick the one bad item or catagory, you'd say that place was awful, not knowing that the rest of their stuff was good or even great. Food here was mediocre, but I must say that the pork bao dough was some of the best (now if they'd only put in more filling...) Food was brought out- and that was about it. I finaly got the attention of the waiter for refills- he kept moving while I spoke. And I'm speaking of a time period of about an hour. We were the only diners in the place, and three of them would sometimes meet together in a knot to discuss things, so they're not understaffed. What is this epidemic of poor service? Okay, don't give me cordial service, but at least come by to ask, take away dishes, let us know you're aware of us! read more

I went here because I was mega hungover and wanted some really bad-for-you noodle chinese food dish. The food was decent really at best. I had a vegetable noodle dish and added tofu. Turned out to be eight bones after adding the tofu. The tofu and the veggies were good but the sauce was kind of overkill. They have a super good lunch special that happens every day but you have to dine in because they won't let you take the special to-go. It's not really a spot you wanna sit at eat at in my opinion. I'll probably come here again if I have some sort of hangover munchies again -- otherwise I'll spend my money elsewhere. read more
