Being from outside the USA, I've never been to the Waffle House before, but I hear about it often in tv and movies. I wanted something easy and comforting so I gave it a try. I arrived around 7pm, and there were no cars in the parking lot. As I parked, I could see one of the employees sitting at the table with what I assume to be an off-duty employee. I assume it was quiet for a while so there was nothing to do. As I walked in the server kindly invited me to sit wherever I wanted. I decided to sit at the bar. I browsed the menu and know I was supposed to sample at least a waffle and the hashbrowns (smothered and covered), so I ended up getting the All-Star Breakfast. I watched the cook make my food, and it was delivered to me soon after. My thoughts: - Waffle: Terrible. It was soggy. I was expecting something a little crispy, but it wasn't. I've had better waffles from the freezer aisle. - Hashbrowns: Good. They were probably the highlight, as they were hot and had a crispy sear. I got them covered (with cheese) and smothered (with onions), which added to the flavour, but was surprisingly sparse. - Eggs, toast and sausage: OK. All average stuff. Server was nice enough. Attentive enough to refill my drink and make sure I enjoyed everything. Overall, it was fine. I came in for something easy and comforting that didn't cost a bundle, and it did just that. But I would only consider going when travelling, because otherwise, I could make the exact same thing at home. read more

Took a very long time to be acknowledged and asked for drink orders. Crew cooking/serving were having a great time talking/laughing with each other. One server stepped on a creamer pkt and it exploded. She said something like oh shoot but never stopped to clean it up. Several others tracked through it but didn't clean it up either. At end of our meal our server swept into dust pan but others continued to walk through it. Between the loud conversations between employees and the music set at a too loud volume, it was hard to do anything but hurry up to eat. Finally, asked 3 times for grape jelly and got apple butter two times out of 3. Had to request coffee refills. When server scraped the bottom of the batter container and then overcooked our waffle, she asked if we liked it dark brown. We did not. Atmosphere here was not as pleasant as other WH we've visited. My mom is currently fighting breast cancer. The treatment has made her extremely sensitive to cold temperatures right now. When we walked in it felt amazing to me but my mom just couldn't take the cold. So we decided to try a different location. That's when TQ came outside after us to invite us back in, Coleman( the chef) was so kind to immediately turn the AC down to accommodate my mom. Seriously the kindest thing to do when I know how hot it can be running around cooking and caring for guests. I know they were short staffed this particular day and the 3 of them really held it down. I've never seen the chef leave the grill to check on guests asking refills & if we needed anything. Constantly good chili and delicious hash browns although the chili could have been hotter, temperature wise. By far the worst Waffle House in Greenville. The service is terrible. Never had a good experience at this Waffle House. I went there last week and the food wasn't even edible. The cook didn't know how to cook eggs over medium. They served me well done eggs. Then when I asked for over medium they gave me raw eggs. I couldn't even eat them. Then the grits were cold! This had to be one of the least efficient waffle house I have ever seen, my friend's food had a hair in it, our food came out at a bunch of random times, the silverware was dirty, they have like 10 people working most of them just standing around the grill, blank stare with their thumb up their bum. The food was exactly how I expected from waffle house, just above dissapointing enough to sustain me for a long road trip. On the plus side the area is wonderful, Greenville is a lovely city, this was my first time visiting. The mall right next to waffle house also cool. Went late on a Friday night after attending a concert. The place was busy but not too packed. The waitress, I believe her name was Marge or maybe Margie or Maggie, was prompt to take care of us and was super nice. For it being around 1 AM, she had a smile on her face. We ordered our food and received it quickly, hot and just as we ordered. This isn't a five star restaurant, but the place was clean and didn't smell like cigarette smoke like some other locations do. Came here after leaving an event around 10:30pm, never been the one to play the race card. However I walked in and there were 3 employees with no name tags looking at me and turned their backs. 30 seconds later two whites couples walked in and it was hello we will be right with you. A minute later they got in a huddle to figure out who's going to serve me. So one lady came and took my drink order and the other took my food order. I watched everyone else get treated very nice and friendly. As I was the only African-Americans in the restaurant. When I got up to pay the Lady that took my food order was sitting down on her phone, when she got up she said she was trying to file her taxes.
