We were at the Huntington Pier for the Fourth of July festival, and I saw this heavenly waffle truck. I was so intrigued by the pesto chicken waffle, so I had to get it! It was quite expensive ($20), but the waffle was big, and had a generous amount of chicken. The flavors of the pesto sauce, cheese, tomato, chicken, and waffle were soooo good and complemented each other so well. The waffle was so soft and fluffy. I loved every bite! The bad: the fried chicken tenders, even sliced pleasantly bite-sized, are best described as unremarkable. Harsher words might be had, but slathered in enough BBQ sauce, well, at least you're getting the animal protein you requested. WAFL Truck is a LA food truck that has joined the fray for the first time at the Great American Foodie Fest in Las Vegas, and I decided to give them a try out of sheer curiosity despite having recently enjoyed the sweet offerings a truly marvelous waffle food truck from Utah. I didn't want to go straight for the desserts, so I picked an interesting savory item. The Texas ($13 at this event) is a burger with ingredients that are clearly inspired by some of that state's cuisine. And with the barely crispy, unspectacular waffle and the almost-gray beef, I don't know why I liked every bite of the burger. Maybe it was the bacon that I acquired as part of the 2 sides included in the price. Maybe it was the horseradish sauce that played against the standard BBQ sauce. Maybe the mushrooms and bell peppers swayed me just enough. Whatever the case, it definitely wasn't the run-of-the-mill potato salad that I spent my other side on... I should've just gotten the eggs. I must say that while I wouldn't try WAFL's waffles without an impressive array of other ingredients to piled on top, they do make one of the better burgers that I've eaten from afood truck,. WAFL TRUCK was located at Brand park in Mission Hills for their food truck event that goes on every Monday from 5-9pm. The buffalo fries were $12 and i know it sounds a little pricey but they do serve you a good amount so it's worth it. They also have waffles with your choice of fruit and nutella (the whole menu looked yummy) The wait time was a little over 5 min but the line did grow pretty fast. So i suggest arriving early to these food trucks if you plan on going to avoid any crowds. *there's plenty of parking at Brand park and they have tables set up or a lovely grass area if you go with any pets* read more

Yes, it's been done. And yes, the others are amazing. But let me tell you, these guys know what they're doing. And if you're thinking that they're all about the sweet stuff, you've got another thing coming. The savory side of their menu competes beautifully with the other. Or, shall I say, it complements it, because you cannot walk away without trying at least one of each. The savory Chicken Waffle with Swiss cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, pesto, all sandwiched beautifully in between a perfectly cooked waffle- not too soft, but fluffy enough that your teeth can cut through it with ease. This was honestly the best waffle sandwich I've tried yet. Even better than Bruxie's, Lord help me. It just had an enormous amount of flavor and depth, whereas other waffle places just have intense flavor, and overdone sweetness. This waffle will keep you full for hours. Word to the wise, though: Have a drink on hand. The density of this waffle will have you reaching for one after 2-3 bites. I, myself, almost choked because my cheap sensibilities wouldn't allow me to buy a bottle of water. Of course, they also carry some delicious desserts with all the fixin's, including the ever-present Nutella waffle with bananas & strawberries. The ones that are really worth trying are the Strawberry Cluster, which is a delicious mix of strawberries, caramel, cookie butter, & an unhealthy dollop of whipped cream arranged beautifully on top of a fresh, toasty waffle. They even have a sweet bacon waffle. Don't ask me how they pull that off. Another one that has "American Favorite" written all over it is the PB & J waffle, which comes with a rich & decadent peanut butter, jelly slathered on top of a waffle, & topped nicely with a healthy dose of crushed peanuts. Most everything they serve is organic & locally-sourced, so that somewhat makes up for the somewhat steep prices of $7 & above. Believe you me, though, it is a meal fit for a foodie king, and well worth shelling out a few extra dollars for that level of deliciousness. So, forget the burger & taco trucks. FAIL. I was so excited to have the chicken and waffles. Although it was $12, it came with 2 sides (I chose potato salad and avocado). The wait took at least 15-20 minutes to get my order. When I looked inside my clamshell container I was surprised at the amount of food. The chicken tenders looked a little over done, and a waft of burnt toast followed me to where I sat for lunch. I flipped over the chicken tenders to find them BURNED! They do not deep fry these, but cook (store bought frozen--I'm sure) tenders on the flat top (like cooking them on a fry pan at home). After such a long wait, I was convinced they cook orders one-at-a-time. Then how did they BURN (and serve) me these???!!?? I was ready to go back and complain but knew I would need to wait another 20 minutes (or more since by then the line got longer). The waffle wasn't even that special. The best part of the meal was the potato salad (I'm sure grocery store deli purchased) and the avocado. No thanks for an eggo, $3 avocado, and scoop of deli potato salad. Will not try again just based on the fact that they tried to pass the burned food off to me. They KNEW it was burned because they conveniently put the chicken burned side down on my plate. Oddly enough found the WAFL Truck outside of Brickyard Pub in North Hollywood instead of Miracle Mile. They were kind enough to serve us as there guy was already closing down. The waffle was warm with a slight firmness on the outside but delicious doughiness on the inside. Can't recall what the name of the waffle was but it came with powdered sugar, bananas, Nutella or some sort of chocolate sauce, and Ice cream. Let me tell you, no skimping out on the ingredients here. Lots of bananas, lots of chocolate and a nice oversized heaping scoop of ice cream. This waffle includes a freshly-made waffle, scrambled eggs, applewood smoked bacon, and a side of syrup. As I watched the crew cook my waffle in one of several waffle irons in the truck, my excitement grew. Firstly, I'll say that the waffle itself was great. How could it not be, they made the damn thing while I watched. However, I've never enjoyed scrambled eggs from a food truck (and fast food places as well, for that matter), and that sentiment still stands today. The eggs didn't taste like they were freshly made, which is really important in serving eggs that don't suck. The bacon was fine too, kinda wish it was crispier, but I think that's just a preference thing. The worst offense was the syrup. Holy cow, it tasted like it was sugarfree. Yuck. To be frank, I don't think the breakfast taco thing is really the right racket for a quality food proprietor. It just seems like too much has to go right for something really memorable to be produced. Leave that crap to Taco Bell, they seem to be doing okay using eggs of probably similar quality and whatever meat disc they have on hand. I wish I had ordered a dessert waffle, I'm sure those are fantastic since their waffles are so good. Hard to go wrong with just sugar as a topping, I saw those buckets of Nutella they got in there. This truck smelled delicious and listed some promising breakfast, dessert, and even savory waffles on their menu. Sadly, the service and then finally the item I did get was seriously disappointing. It took about 15 minutes for someone to pop his head out to just take my order, then it took at least 45 minutes to get it. I just wanted to test this truck out and figured the WAFL dog would be small and fast. No such luck. They seem to prepare each order as it comes serially, as if there's absolutely zero multitasking going on in there. There was at least 15 minutes between each order called out for pickup (yep there were only 3 people ahead of me). I appreciate that they make your waffle to order, but realistically this meant that I waited way, *way* too long for a sub-par hot dog partially covered by a soggy waffle. I'm not sure how they can sustain business like this, really. I must've gotten a particularly bad day.
